FFXIV combat is stale, though. The jobs are more or less homogenized in terms of effectiveness with their own quirk of a rotation. Its like drinking kool-aid: they all have their flavors, but in the end they're sugar water with food coloring. And it gets worse the sweatier the content. I am an RDM main and I get yelled at if I VerRaise at any point because faggots are afraid DPS ain't enough when the game locks you at a dps bracket specifically meant for the content. At least with GW2, each profession has their strengths depending on the content, but these limits get destroyed once you meet someone who knows wtf they're doing.

FFXIV's story is template at best for the brand. But overall the character development is slow while the power creep is real. The only thing they have going for them are clean levels and music (sometimes). Atmosphere is important and music usually makes or breaks it. FFXIV is good in that department, but I listen to GW2 music more than FFXIV. And while levels aren't as crisp as FFXIV's, the music makes up for that. As for GW2's plot, I personally think core is shit, but it gets better in HoT and PoF

Playerbase-wise, FFXIV is filled with questionable people while GW2 has a hypershitter problem. But at least they're not WoW's playerbase.

I'm level 20 on two characters in GW2 and I feel like FFXIV did a much, much better job selling me on the setting and story than GW2 is doing. But GW2's basic content, running around and doing heart events and shit, is a lot more fun. Same with its combat (especially at the basic level I'm playing at).

Variety to that extreme ultimately means you are going to have an extremely watered down experienced due to the game being unbalanced as hell.

Or you can have a bit more conservative design, have a more balanced game, and show expression more through how complex and interesting your fights are.

Wow for example has a massive deviation in balance when compared to XIV. In the most extreme cases builds that fill the same role can a variation of over 100% in damage, where something like XIV has about 4-6% different within the same role (melee, ranged, tank, etc).

This insane balance lets the dev push player limits so much more without potentially creating a circumstance where certain classes are left behind, unlike practically every other MMO.

This is why ultimates are considered harder than pretty much any content in any MMO (unless you count super-old school MMO attrition bosses but honestly fuck those)

What a fucking joke of a sentence. As someone who has done them, they aren't difficult. They are tedious. It's a literal dance you remember step-by-step. You know how much damage is coming out in XIV, you know when it's coming out, you know exactly what skills to press to counter it. specs in wow and gw2 will change how your class performs their role, and in some cases actually change their role

theorycrafting is an essential part of the roleplaying experience and has been since a bunch of pimple faced dorks sat down and played pen and paper games

We dont know how far of a scale their battle would cause. The Crystal Desert and Desolation was made because of the pantheon putting down Abbadon, and with Kralkatorrik being active, the excess magic thrown around in that shitshow will either feed it or he'll be lunch for one of the other gods

Irrelevant, he was still let loose and abetted in getting as far as he did by mortal machinations so he was our problem to deal with before it became impossible to contain. Even if the gods wanted to deal with him, with how long he had managed to hide, all of them except Kormir (who was in the process of departing) had already left. by the time they return and agreed on a plan of action, he would have likely been prepared and its armageddon either way.

The real misfortune is that narratively they had to rush in killing the dragons instead of following the throughline of Dragon Replacement in accordance to said Plan, instead of making Aurene a catch-all for every one of them

Releasing content in breadcrumbs with the promise of more down the line is the ultimate time gate, tryhards will still cry but they'll come back every other month to consume what's new.

Fix WvW but just taking 1 week out of the month to try out stupid changes.
Take the stuff that works (which I'm sure will be very little) or is fun and tuck it away for consideration to be added permanently, and on the weeks that it doesn't work or isn't fun (which will be most of the time) just say "Well you know the deal, if test week sucks it sucks, get over it."

This is, of course, simply ignoring that WvW's development problems is that Anet just doesn't want to work on it.

There are only four scenarios where outfits are better than armour sets:
1. when you're levelling and don't have access to most armour skins,
2. when you're going for a specific look and none of the current sets have what you need, e.g. exo-suit/jade for sci-fi or <god>'s regalia for GW1 dervish,

As a different MANE guy here, I wasn't active enough in the guild when he was kicked, but seen enough of him since then to see why.

The fact that two years later he still bitches about MANE every single time it gets mentioned or alluded to is a red flag to me. He was in the guild for like maybe 4 months at most? Guild log UI makes it tough to say exactly.

I personally tried talking with him a while back on the matter. Things were polite enough then, but the claims he made didn't match at all what I saw with the guild or people in it. Struck me as him being dishonest about how things actually went down.

From that convo as well, I'd have to go back and check the screenshots to make sure I actually recall the specifics correctly, but he made it very clear to me that he wanted nothing to do with me if I didn't decide to suddenly believe all the dumb stuff he was claiming. I now get referred to as "evil" by him for sticking with my buddies on this.

I know there were claims by other guild members of him being a moodkill with ERP and otherwise being annoying on how he approached that end of things, but I never personally took part in that stuff ever so cannot give proper insight on it.

It's all very gay and probably not worth making this big of a post over. It is funny that it still is a thing though.

pvp is a fucking nightmare at the moment where the team that is running pure meta slave will crush the one running anything that metabattle would rate gold and below
the gap between a gold build and plat build is enormous, condi builds are bursting people as quickly as power builds, and then there's extra annoying trash like condizerker which is more bunker than even some of the bunkeriest builds of all time, but has the ability to kill you with one skill because of one cracked relic
support builds in this meta are an absolute mess, we have two viable ones and a couple shitty hybrids that are a waste of a slot, the ones that are viable are only that way because they're running such insanely high boon generation/healing ratio and other supports just cannot compete with it and they're technically hybrids to begin with because they've only been left with avatar amulet
so no, the balance isn't good just because some of the classes have access to a build that uses 3 abilities and gets confirmed kills if those classes are overtuned to begin with

NTA but to expand on this, with active development, we could have a bunch of new maps for sPvP, move past Conquest-only, have more than one 5v5 deathmatch map, introduce new modes, expand on existing ones that only have one or two maps dedicated to it in unrated, increase the rewards, and see if people will come.

Same for WvW, make EotM into a main map below EBG, have two 3-way maps, increase rewards further, penalize those who just afk, reward those who actively play, and have actual 1st place 2nd place 3rd place rewards for players who participated in that week, incentivizing PPT and Zerg vs. Zerg. Increase contribution to scores based on kills both for roamers (depending on how many allies they have around them for example) as well as zergs. Introduce an actual GvG map, not just a tiny shitty arena in Obsidian Sanctum. And of course, most importantly, finish up the world restructuring already for fuck's sake.

Then from there they can look into whether WvW needs more maps or variety or rotating maps. Bring back Battle Isles, add it to a mix of sPVP and WvW, like Random Arenas, Alliance Battles, Codex Arena, GvG Arena, etc.

All of this needs ACTIVE development with a team larger than 20-30, instead of the rotating 3-4 people who work on sPvP and WvW (and have been for 7 years).

To elaborate further, when I first played through the story I did not like Trahearne because he was bland, and it was ironic to claim to like Trahearne. Then I played the rest of the story and came to realize that it's OK for Trahearne to be bland, he is perfect the way he is. I dunno maybe I'm a retard but I see things playing out relatively the same if boons were gone. If you're off stack, your group's moves aren't as swift and precise, if you get downed off stack you're fucked, heals are way more effective on stack, etc.

Make Whirl Finishers also count for quickness application. Not only does it work with Shredder well, but it also lets Hammer 2 help upkeep it.
If they dont want you to overstack it easily (though idk why they'd care), just reduce the number of finishers Shredder Gyro puts out while keeping the same number of hits.

revert it to how it used to be, but now you need to use your utility gyros in a specific way if you want to spread it to teammates
blast gyro: perform any combo with it
shredder gyro: each pulse that causes damage will give a tiny amount to teammates
well gyro: gives quickness to others that step into your Defense Field (toolbelt shield)
purge gyro: gives quickness whenever it cleanses a condition

The only reason I dislike the idea of going "back" to what it was is that it forced you to carry and expend Gyros and occasionally burn certain toolbelt skills like bypass coating) to access the boon. As it currently is, you dont really rely on them so much, so you can carry them as the situation calls for their use.
Trying to tie them to the spec's gameplay over specific utilities is the right idea, even if the application is a bit of a miss

Why do weapons in this game have so many utility skills? Like why the hell does the greatsword on warrior have 2 gap closers and 1 ranged ability where you just throw the sword. Only 1 ability involves you actually swinging the sword around (plus AA). Similar kind of thing applies to most weapons from what I see on metabuild.

I tried out catalyst 2 days ago.
My first impression was obviously that it's a bootleg summoner, adding to the list of especs that feel like 'responses' to XIV's growing popularity.
The second thing was me wondering what the summon energy bar depends on.

But apparently it only depends on hits, aka how many times a skill hits. Depending on the weapon I'm guessing you seek out specific attunements for good weaponskills to fill the bar and then spam the energy in attunements that can't can't build energy as well.
The third thing I noticed is that the SC build just goes full berserker, zero boon duration whatsoever and I don't see how you can sustain quickness with that.
