Andrew was the mistake that changed their life path and because he was so passive and distant as a child gave them a misunterstanding of both Andrew and how being a parent was. I wonder if it's valid to see SPLAT ending as Andrew Wins, while Shots and Such as Ashley wins.

Dead end has them spiral down until they reach their breaking point, but how their story ends, is more or less one of them ultimately submitting.
Splat is Ashley taking some accountability and giving him the consideration of offering to die together, because she knows it means a lot to him.
She's finally made progress she began in Cliffhanger, but it was too little, too late.

Shots and Such is Andrew ultimately letting Ashley win, and submits to her desire to give them a chance, even though he knows it won't end well.
Deciding to embrace Ashley is something Andrew is on his path towards to currently in Cliffhanger.

It's basically either of them making the development they're doing in Cliffhanger together, but it's far too late to fix things.

Shots n' Such is a "No one wins" scenario, the game explicitly says so. Neither of them are really getting what they want, let alone what they need, they're just on a hedonic treadmill running from one temporary high to the next till they die. Splat isn't an Andrew win per se but it definitely is him taking control, but it's too late. In that ending, he's incapable of moving forward in life in a way he wants but he's also unwilling to persist as he is like with the Leyley wins ending, so he decides to take control of his own life in the only way he feels he can, by ending it. Ashley joins in because she hasn't learned to live without him in this route (idk if she will in any route, but we'll have to see) and she knows joining in the suicide would mean a lot to him, so in essence it's the ultimate role reversal. Andrew is the impulsive and self-destructive one who cannot be talked down from an action, while Ashley is reluctant and fearful of the consequences of what they're about to do, but can't bring herself to stop him nor to walk away.

I like them all but the Cliffhanger kiss was the highest point in the game. The camping part was the weakest tho (it has nice optional scene like the cousins, the ring and the Julia call at least).
2 is the most consistent quality wise.
1 is great but suffers from having clearly been planned as a standalone and the inner logic of it is getting shaky with the 3 flashbacks (I still don't think they act like they recently reconciled after a year long falling out).

Cliffhanger seems to be him on a similiar journey, except instead of coming to hate Ashley, and himself, I think he's on the way to realize he loves Ashley and will have to reconcile that he isn't, and never has been her father, and it's not his responsibility, ultimately.

i feel like a big part of cliffhanger ending would be Andrew and Ashley learning to let their past trauma go, and release the souls of their parents to wander realm between..
Ashley still feels attached to them and doesn't want to feed them to ???, and as a demon, she keeps them around.

I feel like in cliffhanger, they finally come to terms and learn to let their past go so they could look forward to the future.

I think it was a glimpse of what Ashley would become, especially with how she initially seemed unsure, going ....mine...

Souls lost most of their earthly memories, but I think the Demon Ashley is one whose Andrew left her, and she's been driven to despair and commited to ascneding to demonhood, hoping she'll forget her life.
Except, even as a demon, she only felt the pain from her empty heart, and seeing andrew again triggered her.

Andrew fucked with the vision by using trinker that wasn't his, so there was probably an overlap between Demon Ashley and real Ashley.

...At least, that's how i see it.

In Andrew's case Lord Unknown specifically explained that Andrew was 'out of his body at the time', which honestly seems like a super important plot point that nobody has picked up on. Ashley and Andrew’s problems are that they were neglected by their parents completely. Ashley hyper attachers to Andrew because she feels he’s the only who’s with her, so she feels extreme envy of those who try to take up his Tim and attention, like Nina.
Andrew tries to be a big brother and also a father to Ashley and because Ashley is hyper needy he lets Nina remain stuck in the warehouse. After Nina’s death he feels that Ashley is the only person who somewhat understands him, and is thus incapable of forming bonds with others, Ashley also entirely latches on to Andrew because of the lack of parental figures.

Ashley is indeed horny for Andrew but less so than Andrew who is also horny for Ashley.

Their main problem is their extreme codependency. Is this all right? Andrew doesn’t even register other people outside Ashley because of the feeling that Ashley is the only one who understands him due to the Nina incident. He killed a kid in the campsite and didn’t feel any remorse, and can’t even remember his friends name.

It's not really proven but I'm fairly sure Andrew is a sociopath, and it's not any particular event that made him that way, it's just how he was born. He simply does not care about anyone, except for Ashley. The Nina event certainly bound them together, but either way I don't think Andrew would ever really form bonds with other people, he only ever cared about Ashley.

Well, the most evil one overall is Andrew.
He gaslights Julia, and kills 9 people.
After him, we have Ashley, who accidentally killed her chilhood bully and strings Andrew onto doing omre kils, some of which are mutual.
Then, we have Douglas, who usually makes a morally dubious decision like pretending they don't know their kids killed Nina and he is one who chooses to accept the deal to sell them out.
Lastly, we have Renee, who goes along with her husband's shitty decisions, and is a terible parent.

I think more realistically under the best circumstances of good parents and no codependency, Julia wouldn't even be involved in the story. She's only there now because Andrew asked her to be Ashley's friend when they were kids so she was always tangentially related to him through Ashley. There's also no telling how different her life would be without Nina's death. How Andrew would feel about other people if it was built in sociopathy and Ashley just connected to him because of circumstance, or if he'd be a completely different person. No telling with Ashley but she'd probably be a tomboy through and through and not have many girl friends.

Just way too many variables to give a blanket statement about what could have been.

Decay and Burial have been more or less revealed to be about each sibling's character arch. Decay is Andrew, Burial appears to be Ashley. The "incest" route of Burial appears to be Ashley failing character development, like Decays S&S route. I don't think Andrew has undergone a character development at all.
He's still deeply embarassed about his attraction to Ashley, so he has resolved fuck all.
Hell, even in Questionable, Andrew STILL has not admitted he loves Ashley or wants her romantically.

I see it more as him fully succumbing to his identity as Ashley's protector and caretaker, he just does whatever she wants, despite his best judgement because he mentally imploded in on himself.
Ashley also claimed his soul, so we don't even know how much of what he says is in Questionable is a reflection of what he'd normally say.

That's interesting, I didn't read the build up to Burial as being "burying ones problems". Ostensibly, it seems to be the opposite. The I'd rather you didn't talk about her like that line, which I think has the strong implication that Andy has finally accepted how he feels about her. And then there's the ending where they're on the bridge just goofing around. There's only a couple of things that make me think that they aren't going to really address their problems

Since Andrew is smart, he probably figured out they were trying to kill them almost immediately and started to ration out the food between him and Ashley

Since they were starving to near death, that would be at least three months without much food

So it was probably around 6 - 8 months depending on how much food they had in the apartment and how well they rationed it

What if Burial is the better path and has Ashley learning to trust Andrew, but having the game explicitly allow you to "trust Andrew" is not only too on the nose, but also a bit premature. If she already trusts Andrew implicitly in the basement, it would make her potential arc of learing to trust him, stop treating their rellationship as contractual and "bury"ing LeyLey a bit superfluous. The only "retcon" I have a problem with is her telling Renny about Nina, that makes the interaction with the mom in EP2 a bit odd. In very, VERY specific cases. The problem is that the existence of de novo mutations means that continual inbreeding can help solidify a potential genetic disorder, and they're simply too unpredictable to say definitively which would be preferable in a specific circumstance.
