IDK if Timmins and Shiek are still there at this exact time. Probably, but I can't confirm. If so, they definitely have some staff from the CE days around. Lars showed up during the stream and he was design lead for 3's multiplayer. Of course, no iteration of Marathon is playing by Halo's rules.

The 343 team were working on a classic-style Halo game and MS asked for it to be changed on their side. MS production changed a lot by the time of Halo 4. It wouldn't matter if it were Bungie or 343 because it wasn't the dev studio that fucked things up.

Sadly, untrue. You might look at Reach and think some things were inevitable, but Reach was the product of a bunch of team leaders taking on new roles, some primarily focusing on Destiny and no longer having the authority to keep certain ideas out/quarantined. There are a lot of people who quit/got let go of as a result of the creative differences with Destiny/deals made to fund it.
Bungie working on Halo and working on Destiny where there's no precedent to adhere to, two very different scenarios. As different as being 3 games into Marathon and then doing Halo, frankly. There were a lot of people who disliked being limited to 2 weapons as of the Xbox version of Halo (PC version possibly allowed more) and many didn't even believe in Halo during those early E3. Can any studio only produce winners? I don't think so. But that doesn't mean you would suddenly fail to deliver on an IP you were successful with.
If Bungie really wanted to, they could just have made Destiny and Marathon clones of Halo, with just the story and visuals being different. Sometimes in life you have a great idea, sometimes you have bad ones. It's the gamble that comes with trying to make something different work, rather than re-skinning what you successfully did before.

The official stream raided into one of their playtesters, amusingly he was saying the game has changed throughout the builds but he was really adamant about how the new influx of players needs to give feedback for things to change. He really wanted proximity chat, but apparently the playtesters aren't a big enough force to get that into the game as yet.

DESU I don't know if any dev team that doesn't have Luke Timmins would be able to consistently deliver on upgrading Forge, Theater and other massive modes, with each title. I actually don't even know if he's still at Bungie, but I Imagine he is given how important programming and related elements are. Can't really find a replacement for him like you can a humble abilities icon artist.

True, true. From what I know he's got such a background role now that I tend to forget he's still there and hasn't retired. I do now recall seeing him in some ViDocs.
As for Marathon, it's not enough to make me pre-order, but I half-expect the idea is a zero-to-hero journey: start as some random crash survivor and work your way up to exploring dangerous environments (maybe with Pfhor) and acquiring military grade gear.
Even if that is the plan though it's going to be a long, slow journey. I'm not sure Bungie has the manpower at this time to deliver content at a faster pace. Playtesters seem to think there's enough lore/secrets on the maps (a bit like Marathon 1) to keep people hooked.
Without having to design a psuedo-singleplayer, cutscenes and other campaign-esque content, this might actually allow current Bungie to just focus on MP content and their supposed ability to make good feeling gun mechanics.
Like I've heard people who gave up on Destiny still admit the gunplay felt really good. So a game without the development stress of a campaign and just delivering lore via text and other simple means, really might work. It really just has to be a better experience than Destiny 2 multiplayer, which is a low bar, right? We'll see. Not betting a pre-order on anything.

Then again I guess that alone might always be an excuse to skirt around the demand no matter how great. Odd though: can't they just design a system that let's people opt into prox chat and then mute it if someone is using it to flame them? Surely programming that is doable.

which is ironically because RDR is one of the most overrated games I've ever played.
Those other two are probably better than Reach though. ME2 is shallower on repeat playthroughs but still plays well, and Galaxy 2 is arguably peak 3d Mario.

With how much time I spend refitting/customizing my Spartans, I'd appreciate a mobile app for it. Get it out of my system so I can focus on playing the game when I'm on my pc. 10 might be a bit much for an app though, especially since the game itself is free. Apparently there's still going to be lore you get access to by exploring maps (similar to M1)
I think it'll be another rocky road for this iteration of Bungie but it'll probably go smoother than Destiny so they'll live

Even if that were true, it takes a competent team who listens to good direction to make a great game. Really, anyone sane wanted back at minimum all the team leaders who worked on the trilogy.
Although Joe's work with the Halo Wars team shows that even an RTS, for all its necessary differences, can manage to capture the tone quite well when a team is making some attempt to use an IP and not sell a new IP with another's name slapped on top.

I found it a nice look back in time. Good in light of the tech used, even. It's like using a good modern platform vs. a very old gun. Old one's still good, but understandably less appealing in terms of function. Feel of the game aside I liked all the atmosphere, visuals and music.

What I typed before is frankly a near ideal timeline for how this could end up being a cool Marathon experience
But that same playtester that the official Marathon stream raided into was VERY adamant about how much people need to give feedback and tell the devs what they find bad
Game's apparently changed a lot since the early tests but even getting proximity chat is something that's still up in the air

It's one of the better H3 maps. Lots of interesting movement pathways and the sightlines can get complex. It's made for FFA and 2v2 and also works well with objective modes.

fun fact, that's not how the CE fuel rod actually works.
The campaign varient, the version made by Bungie, doesn't function that way. It actually has a magazine that uses ammo, and also has to be charged to be used.
The mp version was just made on the fly by gearbox.

I meant the heavy projectile/arc. But yeah, it shoots too fast compared to the campaign variant the grunts use. But I like how they treated it almost like a mortar. There was a Reach mod that brought that mechanic back, think it was Mythic Firefight or something. But the the projectiles werre very heavy so you had to aim high to be able to reach further targets. In later games, it becomes a more spammy rocket launcher with slow, floaty projectiles. I don't like that.

In Reach firefight I always try to hit the ground in front of enemies so I don't shoot past them, but the bounces really mess with this so I end up just aiming directly for them so it's annoying. Or maybe I try to hit a wall so it explodes, but at the wrong angle it will just bounce off instead of exploding, especially in close quarters.

That's an Halo 2 decision, which should have overturned in Halo 3.
The projectile was too slow, so they decided in their infinite wisdom to give it tracking instead of increasing projectile speed or blast radius.
It's even worse in Reach where you have to fight Fuel Rod Turrets with the tank.

The Borderlands movie was Randy's baby, and he even hand-picked the cast and okayed (or probably even wrote some of) the dialogue, so that should tell you something. There's a reason why there are several tutorials on how to remove all the dialogue or change it to Japanese dubs. That reason is because players can't stand how bad the dialogue and story are.
