Rookie here. Want to learn Mai but her fireball war are kinda garbage since I lose unless its charged (and it take so long they can just jump on me). Is she simply a rushdown and I'm playing her wrong ?

Do I need to learn some setup with her EX / charged Fan (I will probably need it if I want to be opti) at my current level ? When will it become problematic if I don't ?

Also, what the fuck is her oki ? I tried a dash then back HK after a light elbow and the dummy is too far away for that or grab. What the fuck is my option ? Doesnt seem like I can do shit after that, just walk back a bit then charge fan ? I played a bit of Cammy and Akuma, I thought everyone had oki after a jab into light special...

MK doesn't register as competition to Capcom because it comes and goes and isn't even something you can purchase in Japanese stores. I would not be surprised if there's Capcom devs who straight up don't know what MK is.

Tekken is similar (no presence in Japan whatsoever), lost all of it's steam way quicker and isn't even guaranteed to outsell it considering the Switch 2 SKU.

Smash is actual competition in this case because it's extremely popular domestically in Japan and it would steal eyeballs, but it doesn't even exist yet.

I think it really just comes down to animation. Sure, some stuff is rotoscoped, but it has to be reimagined to work for the human body, and look convincing as AFAICT with SF6. If you compare Mai's animations in KOF COTW and SF6, you'll see Capcom adheres to body mechanics. They also seem to make it a priority to properly animate for each cast member interacting with each cast member. Also the costumes do not clip like in 5, and on these models must take a shit load of effort to pull off.

I keep trying to tell people that this alone is the biggest issue with SF6. You try to talk about why the drive system sucks, and they'll point out similarities to systems in previous games, but no one ever acknowledges that the system they're comparing it to was the ONLY gimmick system in that fucking game. SF6 basically has every system mechanic from every Street Fighter title smashed together at the same time
its too fucking much, they need to implement some sort of "groove" system or something where you get to pick an aspect of the drive system to use while the rest of it is gimped instead of getting 4 games worth of bullshit all at once.

I miss being able to play Zangief like an actual Bi Body character, using his big long range buttons to actually keep the opponent from getting in range of their faster/cancellable buttons that make them dangerous so I can walk them to the corner. Thanks to DI I can't make use of this shit anymore without being completely free to the universal armored counter that completely hard counters 90% of Zangief's buttons, and the only safe shit I have to press in neutral is jabs, which only work when I'm in the opponent's fuckzone where they can cancel into DR and push me to the corner instead while deleting half of my drive gauge just for blocking their retarded mixup.

what happened with t8 s2 will double back on SF6. phidix and TMM are actually pretty highly informed on tekken, and much more than sajam and the d00d are. this gives capcom a lot more ability to damage control when they fuck up.

I've always liked Elena, not in a waifu sorta way, I just particularly enjoy her smooth rotoscoped animations and I like that she has big buttons.
I almost exclusively play Zangief, but unless they add Hugo in S3 there's a strong chance I'll buy Elena so I can mess around with her as a secondary character just cause she's fun to use in neutral and I probably won't have to use drive shit too often with the sorta range she's got on her buttons.

Tbh, the trick might be to start learning a new character on stick rather than trying to re-learn your existing mains on it.
I can't play Zangief at all on stick cause everything feels wrong compared to pad, but I use my stick to play characters like Ryu because I never had much experience with him on pad to begin with, so its the opposite with him and playing on pad makes everything feel really sloppy

Because he's a suboptimal character until you give up oki 2 times in the same round, where any other character could have put a gun to your head and made you guess for another 40% both times and won. This is genuinely silly, out of all the tricky shit in fighting games, hit confirming is one of the easiest things to improve at with practice.
If you're pressing buttons with intention and you are ready to hitconfirm after pressing a button, it should be easy, and you can make it even easier by hitconfirming with shit that can combo into itself like jabs or whatever so you aren't doing a single hit confirm.

Reacting to jumpscare shit you can argue is something that you might not be able to fix because some people just have shittier reaction times than others, but hit confirms are definitely something that can be improved.
I have dogshit reaction times, but I could still hitconfirm a single jab into Zangief's CA in SFV

I don't care if devs insist on putting hard combos or whatever in the game but tight hit confirming should not be a core skill that the player is expected to learn or your fighting game is dead in the water.

You have to practice it in actual matches, not just in training mode.
Its one thing to practice hitconfirming on a dummy, and another thing entirely to do it while you have a bunch of other shit occupying your mental stack. The trick to hitconfirms is being able to put yourself in positions where you minimize the shit you have to worry about, and you can focus only on a few outcomes, it either hits or it doesn't. You need to get good at spacing yourself or being ready to frametrap, or when the opponent is going to press and whiff a button that you can punish, or whatever, and be ready to press your confirmable button, while already being ready to confirm it before the move even connects (or gets blocked so you don't follow it up)

its not about just getting super human reaction times and being able to always hitconfirm with split second reactions, its about putting yourself in situations where you know you're going to be hitconfirming and being ready to do it, or not do it, based on the result of your button press.

You gotta press buttons less often, and have a plan of action for when you do press buttons.

This would just make neutral and offense even more annoying and free,
Fighting games don't get better when it gets easier to always 100% do the optimal thing. If you struggle to do a certain confirm, focus on easier ones and work your way up to the optimal/harder ones.

If confirming was made any easier than it already is, there wouldn't even be much point in making it something you can fail and you might as well just have the character automatically do a combo depending on which button you hit the opponent with.

No, there's just a lot of waifu posting in this thread and I'm not interested in any of it.
I would ask all of the waifu posters to use a name or tripcode, but I see Cammy stuff the most so I assume its mostly one person.

I simply do not want to keep scrolling past it, and I'd have a better time lurking these threads if I could just have the horny posts hidden. I already filter all the images you post, but I have to manually filter every new image you upload and its a bit annoying.

You literally just type anything into the name field and it will stay there until you remove it, its not that much work.
You can add a tripcode to your name by putting ## and any string of characters you want after it to act as a "password" as well, that way people won't be able to impersonate you
