Figured I'd post this again, maybe anons here would have something to say or note.

One point i find interesting is that the story seems to associate kinkyness with negativity.

Shots and such and questionable Burial Ashley and Andrew physically hurt each other during sex and shots and such reveals Ashley isn't into that.

Renee and Douglas use rope, and they're terrible parents.

Andrew's porn obsession and sexual violence towards Julia comes from his resentment towards Julia and not being with Ashley.

Ashley wanted more romantic time together and cuddling but Andrew rejected that and hurt her.

Seems like kinkyness is tied down to a mental state and if Andrew and Ashley resolve their issues they'd probably rather be tender than controlling/inflicting physical harm

Without a counter example showing that "good" people are less abusive during sex I'm not sure you can really draw any conclusions from it.
Burial still isn't out, and for all we know the vision is from a bad end, but just from face value they seem happy enough having sex despite seeing bite marks and stuff even in that.

When you kill Ashley's pink plushie, the TV changes to porn, and he noticeably becomes more lustful the more he represses his attraction to Ashley, and he has various violent sexual thoughts due to repressing himself.

I meant when was the last titme they had a normal conversation(when they were like 18/19 and 20/21), and be bluntly rejected her.
Shots and Such is them both being in a terrible place so they have no more capacity for romance.

Sure, we're just arguing semantics here but he's not porn obsessed, just sexually repressed. For most kids they usually like the person they fuck for the first time, but since Andrew only loves Ashley and finds Julia annoying at best, his associations with sex and love are messed up and all over the place

Is it is just me or has the media discourse become way more restrictive in the last decade?

I grew up watching movies that depicted serious romances that are incompatible or taboo, like Edward Scissorhands being a robot with bladed hands, or Sweeney Todd with its whole story, Royal Tennenbaums, which showed stepsiblings, and Rushmore which was a love triangle between a student, teacher, middle aged man, you have Game of Thrones with twins.

Yet, for whatever reason, stories like thta have today become "problematic" and as such don't even get shown

This game is really tapped into the fact that outside of out and out sexual abuse mothers can fuck up their daughters more easily and profoundly than any other parent child gender combination. If Renee had just loved Ashley, even at a significantly lower level than she should have, none of this would have happened. She even did love Andrew to a meaningfully greater degree, in her perspective scenes he's "accident"(fucked up of her to think that way but technically you can care for something created accidentally) and "disappointment"(which actually implies she once had positive hopes). Only Ashley is identified as a "mistake"

It was conveyed to Ashley as much as it was to Andrew that he was her primary emotional caregiver, not her mother, which put a timer on the only primary, parental love she felt she had. Imagine what any child/teenager would think if they believed their parents would kind of deprioritize and move on from them that much that young, that they would only care about them in adulthood to the extent adult siblings care about each other(kind of a lot but not the same thing). Combine this with her social malfunction that undermined her sense of what she could get out of other people and the wider world- a malfunction rooted in part in the fact that her primary caregiver was an abused child who wasn't allowed to discipline her or force her to be considerate of others-only to coddle and enable her, no instinct for playing nice and meeting people halfway

It would almost be like someone that age having no friends or romantic interests and knowing their parents are going to die sometime in your early teenage years, except because its not death death Ashley is left to try and think of ways out of it, and what she settles on is providing Andrew the sex he would seek from normal relationships so that he doesn't "need" them. This contextualizes her "pain" at the sex in shots and such-what she's doing is basically letting herself get molested

Don't forget the part where a lot of the behavior she expect and express come from the TV, which in her case seemed to be a mix of Evangelical mega-church nonsense, shows and porn.
Ashley is basically that one autistic kid who was raised watching Dr House and South Park and doesn't know how to interact with people outside of mimicking House or Cartman while her morals are basically just whatever she understood from the incoherent screeching of a scammer who's just trying to get a bunch of old people to send him money.

I think it's predecated by your choices during ep2 vision.
If ashley decides to shoot andrew in her vision, she completely denies ANY kind of respect or accountability on her end if she's so willing to kill Andrew off for shitty behavior on her end.
As such, even with Andrew's attempts at growth, she remains an immature brat who fuck things up and it drives Andrew completely insane.

It's utterly pointless since by the time Decay 2 comes out, Nemlei will have probably changed their mind on a bunch of stuff and even more so by the time Burial comes out.
Even just with Decay 1, we can see Nemlei changed their mind on a bunch of stuff (just look at the rebrand from Demons to Entities) and even included direct reactions to annoying takes about the game.

Soviet Union demands certain relatively small border territories in return for land swaps because they have like 30 times the population. Finland refuses?

So the soviets decide fuck this lets annex the whole country. This is the Red Army of 1939, which wouldn't be properly "good" again till like, sometime in 1942 maybe(though the Moscow counteroffensive was actually a really good showing for 1941), so they take heavy casualties, but they breach the lines, the Finnish defence effort starts to collapse. It is clear the Soviets could occupy the whole country, but the Finns have made it appear to be more trouble than its worth-except that's literally what the soviets thought in the first place before the war which is why they were only trying to get key border territories.

Finland gives the exact territories demanded by the Soviets in the first place.

Then Finland INVADES RUSSIA with the axis to take back those territories, then has to give them back again when the Soviets are winning, and once again only doesn't get fully occupied because its more trouble than its worth when the Soviets are busy making their way to Berlin.

They'd really have been fine and saved themselves a lot of trouble and casualties just transferring those territories in the first place. They were within two years of WW2. Russia wouldn't have just kept coming back for more, even the most cynical and negative read of Russia would lead you to believe they would be too preoccupied with their huge Warsaw pact gains to want to waste resources and diplomatic capital on going back into Finland just because.

Renee clearly came from a family with more money than what two teenage parents could get, just like her husband was from a family that could afford to basically have a forest for a backyard.
So while not bad with money, they're not used to have to maximize a lower than average income.

It's not really padding. Questionable actually shows us a glimpse of what Ashley actually thinks, involves them sharing a vision and their relationship is still somewhat better. I think the "contemplating" the olive branch and breaking down there doesn't really suit him as much including what we see in Decay.
With how Ashley had been treating him thus far it's hard to see him as truly wanting what the mom offered even if it was a lie, maybe it would come off better as "You wish you were the type of person who could say yes, but you aren't" so it's instead Andrew reflecting on how much he isn't that person and can never be that person, and this is an Andrew that cares more about that self image as opposed to Burial Andrew which is just burying that aspect of himself and embracing his true self without really confronting the underlying decay, I guess.

Cause it's not just him standing up for Ashley either but standing up for himself against a person he hates.
And logically trying to get answers too to improve their situation, while being possessive over Ashley which even then can be another fuck you to Renee since Ashley is more Andrew's daughter than Renee's.

Personally I think Decay works a lot better being from Ashley not even attempting to trust him / give him a shit test and having *that* help fuel his Decay thoughts of lacking respect because "Gee whiz you can't even fucking trust me to not instantly betray you in a clearly fucking retarded move" and it seems Decay has to stem from a lack of trust from Ashely, which makes it more potent when Andrew *could* have been trusted if Ashley gave him the chance, but it's a self-fulfilling prophecy for her due to her lack of trust,

Which speaking of the dialogue for trusting him is the same, it's just the text option that is different but I still don't like how it is worded and feels meta on the nose and stilted.
Instead of "No, but trust the trinket" I wish it said "It'll be fine, you have the trinket" to reflect more of Ashley attempting to trust Andrew but still eavesdropping on him as a shit-test, but still trusting him enough to shit-test him in the first place.

I don't think Ashley is so reckless and dumb she'd make up the rumors, nor does it seem like douchebag was lying.
The game claims it comes from Ashley's class, and they explicitly mention some of them heard it from Rebecca.
Then, Julia approaches Andrew to talk about it.
rumors must have come either from Rebecca or Julia.
And given how Julia waited all of this time, and gives Andrew her real opinion on him, only after talking to him, and being polite, only to leave a scathing letter, shows she's very much capable of being two faced.
