I haven't done every route or anything but this is such a well done game. Like a real well judged creative vision.

I think its fair to say I can write. I've written some fiction and a decent number of people have liked it, and I'm better at it now than the last time I put anything out there. But its so impressive to me that this game was made entirely by one person, meaning they're this good at writing, but also this casually good at all this other stuff too. Its generally considered more than enough to be good at one thing.

The attitude of the whole thing is borderline french but with that pervasive anglo irony you wouldn't necessarily get with something actually French. Like it has that willingness to not overtly moralize to the audience and to just present interesting characters in interesting situations, but with this very english language sardonic, sarcastic playfulness based on both self effacing high self awareness and an instinct to light-heartedly notice and shit on the conceits of others, a shared assumption that any given person including yourself is somehow the butt of the joke in life. A tendency to view things as hapless comedy instead of drama. I know that might sound like every culture does that but there's just a particular vibe of all that that I think is more of an anglophone thing. So its not like its just some european property that happens to be written in English. No its a more unique thing than that.

What I find increasingly weird is that the whole killing Nina incident seems to be of an outlier as far as Ashley is, given she hasn't done anything like this since, and was mostly just a brat, and it isn't until the events of the main story that she resorts to murders and sacrifices but that's at the turn of 3 months of starving

Douglas is too much like human cattle to have proper agency. Say what you will about Renee, at least she saw the writing on the wall and entered into the deal with the surgeon understanding what she was doing and the implications. Douglas needed to have the situation explicitly spelt out for him by her, and even then treated it like some confluence of fates he had no understanding of or ability to affect.

Honestly I think I get her.
She probably hates and has zero respect for Julia and would shit on her and use her at a moment's notice, but at the end of the day she was someone who hung out with her despite everything and was probably like the only other person besides Andrew she ever interacted with in any type of positive light.

At the start of Decay, Ashley wanted nothing to do with Julia, and she only demands Andrew kills her after finding out Julia rummaged through their appartment.

I do see Ashley using Julia as a test to see whether Andrew would do something fucked up like agreeing to kill or sacrifice Julia for no reason, and then be unnerved with how casually Andrew agrees.

I can even imagine a scene where they chat around and Ashley gets increasingly nervous over how calm Andrew is about leading her to her death, to the point Ashley herself calls it off and Julia is left mildly confused.

Or, in Questionable, they go through with it and Ashley regrets it.

The thing about Ashley is she doesn't really *want* to hurt people, she only does it reactively, the puzzle with flowers and knives demonstrates that.

The story took a turn the moment they arrived to their parents house and it got serious there.

Ahsley and Andrew were getting better but Ashley's obsession with demon spurred her to kill their parents, in an attempt to ensnare Andrew and the gravity of that has made things serious.

Ok, if you really wanna know.

You can split Ashley into two different modes of how she behaves, Ashley and Leyley.

Leyley is the spoiled annoying brat who acts out and acts possessive with Andrew and treats him like her property.

Ashley is the perceptive girl who understands their situation and that Andrew has to be there for her, but also that he doesn't really like anyone else, and only cares about her.

her entire life has been a balancing act between Leyley and Ashley, Nina incident was her succumbing to her paranoia and doing something rash to ensnare him, however afterwards, she's chilled out and from what we see, while she's maladjusted, her and Andrew had a reasonably normal dynamics and they could openly talk about anything.

When she was mad over Andrew finding himself a girlfriend, he explained he has needs, and she told him about how she sees their future.
So Ashley decided to meet him, and agreed to elope with him.
Picking up that Andrew very obviously is into her, she tried to grow up into the woman he wants her to be, but he rudely rejected her and then ignored her for a year.
She was gentle and did what he wanted and was only met with rejection.
This caused her to retreat into being Leyley more or less full time.
Then, a year later, her and Andrew only now began to mend their relationship and then, they got stuck in the quarantine.

Now you can see where she's coming from.
???? represents Leyley side of her, her paranoia and fear of losing him, and he shows up at their lowest points in their relationship, and whenever she listens to it, she doubts him more and more.

When you think about it, Renee actually saved Andrew and Ashley's lives.

Her chronic underfeeding them resulted in them being prepared for the starvation in the quarantine before they found a way to escape.

She wanted to be normal. But it's not just about external appearances. She dgaf about the neighbors, her co-workers and most of her family.

She wanted to prove her own mother wrong, but would have been fine just never speaking to her again. Douglas's mom had concerns and Renee did get defensive, but grandma also took good care of the kids and was definitely a source of support when the kids were smaller. Renee didn't sell Grandma's pendant. She wears it constantly and it's become part of her style.

In the end she's a lot like Andrew in how they both strive for "appearances". Whether it not being a failure of a teenage mother by making things work, or not being a sister-fucker by dating Julia.

Andrew knows that both of them are playing at manipulating each other, but despite being an Litfag he doesn't realize that's how society works. Morals, laws and guilt are just manipulation that keeps things from going off the rails.

I'm confused, are these opinions from people that are shitposting because they want to fuck Renee?
Douglas is also at fault but at least he's got the excuse of working like a slave with alternating day/night shifts so he's stuck as a barely functioning zombie.

I remember seeing a theory here that Andrew's wild swings in personality were LU taking control due to Andrew making a deal for LU to come out in exchange for eating the vegetables. But aside from marking him to meet him when Andrew "hatches" all LU does is make him eat the red flower veggies which we don't know does to him.

Probably, all the flashbacks we get this Episode are pretty damn important, so if Burial really shares "NO content" with Decay, it'd make sense for Burial's version to be from Ashley's POV since she's the one kind of on the back foot after Andrew's sudden attitude change.

It's sad because despite everything literally the only thing Ashley has wanted is Andrew's love, and the moment she gets it isn't a moment of triumph, but rather one of defeat. I'm going to be real, I think the entire conflict in Decay feels fairly contrived, and I say this as someone with a sister and both of us were giga neglected AND were pretty cold toward each other for a while.

Yes, we actually feel bad for Ashley despite having fill view of how manipulative, venomous, and evil she really is. She has the ambivalence of a child. That one expression tells us that even though she doesn't want to die, she really doesn't want to leave her big brother either. Even after being brutalized, even after being roped into ending her life, Leyley still loves Andrew.

And that's the problem. Leyley does not need a lover or a husband. She needs a big brother. Somebody looking out for her best interests, which does not been bending over backwards for her childish whims, or giving into the pathological lust plaguing Andrew.

Andrew needs to take control and guide Leyley into becoming Ashley.

Andrew reflecting on things in Shots and Such makes it clear that the "Andrew grows up, then helps Ashley grow up" part of this is true at least. Maybe they won't have sex in that route but they do kiss and openly call themselves lovers so I wouldn't exactly rule it out either.

In the cliffhanger, Andy is already dead. Andrew realizes his lust for Ashley is purely pathological. Above all else he is a Murdering, Lovesick Brother. Would losing lust for Leyley be a heavy price to pay? Would Andrew feel no attachment to her at all and completely abandon her?

But Andy, to him, is more or less a yearning for a do over, a new lease of life, he always thinks of starting over.
One thing that Andrew has been yearning for and missing is a parent, and Lord Unknown is that.
And what is removing his feelings for Ashley, that isn't killing his own personal agency and growth? isn't it killing Andrew off, only leaving Andy?

Also, Andrew doesn't only call his lust pathological, but his attachment to her in general, he still is yet to realize he is IN love with her, he still sees her as his daughter and a problem to fix, not a girl who is in love with him.

Wishful thinking, but I do hope you're correct. The fact that Andrew *also* wants to terminate the pregnancy (sorry Audrey!) shows that even if they are both adults, a family may be out of the question.

However! Nemlei throws a little tidbit during that ending in which Andrew subconsciously defends the idea of procreating with his sister stating that the kid would not have anything wrong with it because there is no history of inbreeding in their family. This is immediately trampled when they both still agree to termination, but it also may be a breadcrumb to a better reality for them in which it's Andrew and Ashley who are having a child.

Ashley and Andrew used to have a lot more of an honest dynamic with each other and they talked about a lot of things, and when he explained to her they're growing up and he has his needs too, she found it gross(honest statement), but after thinking, she wantd to have a talk with him, admitting that she would like to elope with him, grow up for him, but then he coldly and rudely pushed her away, and it very obviously broke her heart.
if Andrew doesn't really want to see Ashley, then she'll retreat into being Leyley.

Ashley is IN love with Andrew, while Leyley is mostly concerned with keeping him around.

I just don't see a happy Andrew and Ashley ending in Burial. An Ashley would notice that what Andrew wants isn't what she wants. Andrew is destructive because it's in his nature. Leyley is destructive because she thinks it's a necessity for securing attention (from Andrew). Burial takes away that necessity and gives us a very calm Ashley, and I don't think it's coincidence that this version of Ashley gets knots in her stomach seeing Andrew's mask slip.

Also, weird thing I noticed yesterday. Some songs from the OST of Raw Danger (kids, look it up) actually go really well with TCOAAL.

The story would be rendered fundamentally impossible. Andrew's character and motives don't work as a woman. Ashley's character and motives REALLY don't work as a man.
