I have 500 Halo Credits.

You should never get the option on the right. These passes don't take long to complete at all.
The "left" option just makes it so that you still have access to the pass after the free period is over AND you get access to some exclusive shit, usually a coating/skin for something.

...at least that's how it USED to work, but I heard a rumor they changed it so the "right" option now has it's own extra exclusive stuff now, but I can't confirm this.

Are the new BTB maps in now or are they coming in a later update? I saw 'Flood Gulch' in some trailer. I heard there's gonna be some kind of BTB refresh. I hope that doesn't mean they're removing Haavies or Fiesta. They've already removed Skockets and Escalation Slayer which is a bit sad, but at least we still have Team Snipers. They should add Grav Hammers or Swords only and Shotty Snipes. And maybe rocket race, although that one probably might be better in action sack, wonder how it would be with 24 players.

Here's how it works. There are four options.
>FREE OPTION
This allows you to progress through the Pass' levels/tiers at no charge to your "Halo Credit" balance. It is only available during the time that the pass is featured. So for example, the current pass is offered for free up through April 6th. The free version of the pass does NOT include the featured special skin that is always shown at the beginning if the pass, which is always shown off at the beginning of the pass screen before tier 1 (pic related - this pass' featured skins are the Forerunner Assault Rifle and unique BR coating).
>PREMIUM PASS OPTION
This gives you immidiate access to the featured skins for the pass, gives you an extra daily challenge slot while the pass is activated so you can upgrade faster, and gives you infinite access to the pass so you can go back to it if you don't finish it during the featured window (in this case, April 6th).
>PREMIUM PASS + 20 LEVELS OPTION
The same as the premium pass option but it also instantly completes the entire battle pass for you automatically, so there's nothing to be unlocked via gameplay.
>EXPANDED PASS OPTION
This one I'm not exactly clear about, but it seems like there's a larger 50-tier pass that shows up only once every 3 passes that includes extra armor and unlockables. These are 50 tiers instead of 20. Apparently when this goes away, it' not purchasable anymore, but the items in it can be bought from the store.

So yeah it's definitely unnecessarily confusing, but hopefully this helps.

Because of how dark and foggy the map is, it gets really pretty with all the plasma bolts, blamite needles, and fire projectiles flying around. The explosions also light up the terrain, so you have this really comfy mix of nightlight colors. It's a completely different ambience compared to the other maps.

Some parts look surprisingly good, at least from a distance. Halo 3's lighting/engine was really ahead of its time. I like how solid stuff looks and like it's actually there physically, and not just floating around. The fog almost looks 3D like in modern games. Really helps to add scale and density to the simpler terrain/architecture of Halo 2.

This structure for instance looks massive. I don't remember being as impressed with it back on the original Xbox. It was just there. In fact I don't remember this map looking particularly pretty either. And yet in 2025, I've actually stopped to ogle at it. It felt so small the last time I played Halo 2 BTB, yet now I'm really amazed how big the map feels, and I think that's due to the better lighting/graphics of Halo 3's engine, so even though the textures are the same, it still feels like a remastered map.

Actually that doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. The textures are fine for the time. But compared to that Halo 3 firefight mod, it's harder to get a sense of the depth/scale of that structure because the image overall looks a bit flat. Those rocks in front kind of look like they're detached from the world, and the background cliff's shape is hard to determine without moving and seeing parallax, due to not having any fog. There's some artifical god rays shining in from the top of the map, but again, it's hard to tell its there in 3D space without moving to activate parallax. But some of that lighting on the structure does look nice, like a precursor to Halo 3's lighting. (Such as that subtle shadow behind the red flag, or the shadowy parts on the rusted metal)

This. I get they had to do a new symbol for copyright reasons but the one 343i made is really indicative of everything wrong with their early 2010s art direction. Too much unnecessary noise and bits that only clutter up the design as a whole.

the next halo trilogy should be about dealing with the flood threat directly.
maybe a group of terrorists who still believe in the covenant try to help spread the flood across the galaxy in order to force humanity to fire the rings.

I like this one, it makes the game look timeless. The original cover is still good, but it kind of blends in with the rest of the game covers on my steam shelf, and I associate it mostly with Halo 3. I still use it if I only have the Halo 3 DLC installed for MCC on my latpop, but for my other machine that has all the MCC DLC installed, this one makes more sense to differentiate it from standalone Halo 3. The muted colors also help it stand out more from the rest of my installed games..

In an old devblog (possibly outdated) they mentioned the idea of the community finding/opening up new areas. I presume they will be able to work their way up to military-level equipment as well. The books are not canon
None of the shit in Halo Legends is canon and Halo is not anime
Halo Online is not canon

Blue Team is not canon. That egregious meme team doesn't exist and never did. The only true ship is Chieftana and canonically they do have some feelings for each other. Chief doesn't fuck around on his adventures. He just fights for the UNSC and gets the job done. He is a virgin.

Didn't know it was still worth so much. The money that could've been made since 4 by prioritizing integrity game after game, could have helped them create a new super-soldier IP made from the ground-up to be a MTX machine and a home for big new experiments.
Makes me wonder how many people that pushed for trend-chasing just ran off to a new company with a resume that showed they increased profits short-term/at launch, ignoring the fact that they left the IP holding the bag of low player retention as a result.

Didn't both recently have massive lay-offs and are now reaching back in time to try and stay alive? 343 isn't even called 343 anymore. Both are basically dead.
If you mean outright shutdown, I doubt it'll happen. Marathon will have fun enough gunplay and a strong enough community to survive. They don't even have to deliver on singleplayer-esque content like with Destiny. 100% MP focus, essentially.
343/HS will be kept alive in order to find success even if it means eventually being a lot more faithful to what Halo was about prior to 4. Even if Microsoft gets cocky and trend-chases again shortly after they have the money to course correct.
Only world where they both get shutdown is some kind of dystopia that is so resource restricted/progress-minded that games as an industry basically dies.

Think about this. The most popular sci-fi FPS games at the moment are things like Valorant and Apex Legends, right? Both of which have gameplay which is more innovative than what Halo currently has.

Maybe Halo needs to let go of the whole nostalgia angle.

The kids who grew up playing the Bungie Halo games are now in their 30s and many of them probably don't play games anymore. The next Halo game probably needs to shed the nostalgia trip and start appealing to teenagers. That's how you get a popular game.

Halo being as relevant as it was in its hay day was the result of a multitude of factors. The quality and craftsmanship of the games themselves were nowhere near responsible for the popularity they recieved on their own.
Instead, just focus on wanting Halo to be good, stop expecting it to be THE shooter out there, because it never will be again.

Half the reason Halo got as popular as it was 20 years ago was because it was basically one of a handful on online games that weren't complete trash, and basically the only console game that had good online capability. Kids don't know it, but having a good gaming PC was almost exclusively for nerds (losers) 20 years ago. And today, basically every game has online functionality for better or worse, so people are spread across a dozens or hundreds of games. Halo was good and it was always going to be a top tier game in terms of quality due to the talent and care of the people who used to make it, but the "lighting in a bottle" part was mostly timing that allowed it to become popular.

Now for some pseudo-intellectual to try to deny this basic history lesson and try to shoehorn an argument about how Sprint can fix Halo, despite the fact it's part of what fundamentally broke it.

I don't think that's much of a secret. Most people know or expect this.
The problem you're making is thinking this is realistic for most adults. Most people don't have time to make playing video games part of their daily life It's a treat that they can sit down for when they finally have time, and when they do they don't want it to feel like work. They want to just have fun. Infinite and MCC don't offer that outside of a few meme modes. There's no regular just enjoyable halo experience that isn't extremely sweaty.
Telling people "lol just git gud" is retarded because either isn't a realistic fix for most people even if they wanted to. You didn't have to git gud to just turn on Halo 2 through Reach on XBL and have a good time. Even if you were a shitter, there were plenty of regular matches in rotation with ither shitters.

Tough luck, manchild. The ONLY reason that was ever a thing was because of how immensely popular the brand was back in the day. It had nothing to do with how the game was designed. People have more options now. Even if they crafted your cookie cutter idealistic view if what the perfect Halo game was, it would still have a middling population at best a few months after launch, and the people playing it would mostly be somewhat more competent than the 10 year olds driving ghosts the whole time or not being able to get perfect kills to save their life like in the 2000s.

Not true. Especially if you mostly play singleplayer mods and party mode playlists like Big Team Heavies/Fiesta. You have to practice what you want to git gud at specifically if you want to git gud. You can improve a little, for sure, but it's like trying to play a fighting game in training mode and only practicing combos while only occasionally playing against real people. I used to play Halo 3 religiously several times a day and I only ever got to rank 39 in Team Slayer. Nowadays I always forget I have grenades and always try to rush an AR melee even when I'm too far away instead of switching to my BR because I misjudged the distance.
[Paragraph Indent] In Tekken I don't know any of the frame data for my favorite characters even though they're both marriage material. Hell, I don't even know what most of their moves do (or even how to do them) or why they're even there in the first place if I can just toss out a random unsafe Matterhorn or Dragon Wheel Kick since they work against the AI and occasionally real people. Practice doesn't necessarily make perfect, but rather, perfect practice makes perfect.

The point is if you put in a solid effort every day in matchmaking, you will be better after a month than when you started. How much better will vary depending from person to person based on time and effort put in, as well as some smaller factors like natural reaction time, platform capabilities, and the time of day you're playing, but you will get better Period.

We have to define this first. People have to know what to train first before they train. You can play the wrong way every day for years and not get better, so it's good to have an idea of where to try to improve first. There's a hard knowledge cap that can prevent you from improving, especially if you don't fully understand a mechanic. Some people are also stubborn or exceptionally lazy, so even if they try to do the same thing every time, they're not gonna make any progress because they're not seeing the full picture and are just trying to brute force it which can work in some cases, but not always. If someone plays BTB or Fiesta every day, they're gonna destroyed in Team Slayer 4v4 because they haven't figured out spawn times/locations of weapons and can't rely on RNG anymore to give them a good gun. And with less players, each player has more significance to the success of the match, there's no scorpion tank backing you up as you reckless charge in for a BR melee.

This is why I only play Big Team Heavies or Big Team Fiesta Slayer instead of regular BTB Slayer and Objective modes. And if it's still too sweaty I switch to 4v4 bot matches and turn off sprint while reducing movement acceleration and decreasing the base movement speed, and also lowering the gravity, which makes it a slower paced Halo-like instead of a 343-like.

From what Marcus has said, Destiny as a project didn't really jive with him and so he left. Destiny was... a mistake in many ways. The project was connected to a lot of people leaving.
At this point (earlier really) I think everyone realizes they should've continued with that post-Ark trilogy, built up more experience and wealth, and then tackled Destiny.
It makes sense too: gather all this talent for/because of Halo (a lot of people wanted to be there to work on Halo) and then Destiny was "where any crazy shit can happen". It sure did, huh?
Even without Marcus, Joe and Marty, Halo would've been in better hands with Bungie if they decided to work on it again. Specifically because Shiek would still be there for art like he was for CE, Salvatori would definitely do pretty good music, Timmins has been around forever for engineering and would basically guarantee Forge, Theater and more were there AT LAUNCH.

However if any higher-up at Sony/Bungie leadership adopted this mindset, then, yes, 100% any advantage Bungie veterans can bring to the table would be nullified. But if not, you would get a pretty good Halo.

Agreed. Making a Halo game with integrity being prioritized is not the same as nostalgia-baiting that 343 did for Infinite and no one sane asked for.

You would have to make something that feels better to play than Valorant/Apex, which would not feel like a Halo game. Want top popularity? Make an IP from the ground up for that. There's still room to make a good Halo game alongside that and now you have TWO good IP under your belt.
Microsoft could've just made Halo games that delivered the best of the Bungie games for multiplayer (especially through playlists with different mechanics), then funded a new IP with the success of that. Instead they tried to mash Halo together with ideas better suited for a new IP and neither set of ideas was free to grow to their full potential.

If you really want to evolve the combat, you make a speed-boost that works in every direction (5 actually had such a power-up) AND you can still be shooting. Now you're back to a fundamental of pre-ability Halo: shooting while moving at max speed.
The trade-off? Reduced accuracy, which can be accomplished via different spread/spray/recoil/gun wobble. People turning off the boost mid-strafe would also mean more options for throwing off someone's read on your pattern. So now we're back to the only real limit on your shooting being a) ammo b) your own will.
But even that can just be in its own playlist alongside non-ability gameplay in a future Halo. It's 100% doable.

Well, even as of recently there are posts from devs (assuming they're truthful) highlighting 343 employees trying to shift things towards integrity, and being ignored by people that outrank them in order to trend-chase. Saw one a few days ago about one who was trying to keep the Fortnite levels of randomness to cosmetics out of Infinite, but he was ignored. He only approved of it in Fortnite because the game was build from the bottom-up for that kind of madness, according to him.

I suppose Marathon Runners was a bit too on-the-nose? Still, even though it's obviously a spin-off in the setting, I feel they could've emphasized that better from the get-go.
Maybe they were banking on the conflict to draw eyes to the game, or maybe they thought it was obvious due to the visuals + what else can Security Guard do in the setting?
