Burial puts Ashley into the driver's seat of fixing their problems,

doing that is more on Andrew, both for being the man in their relationship and older brother/surrogate father.

Putting so much pressure and responsibility on Ashley as Andrew becomes a passive accomplice will only make her spin her wheels and go insane.

Props to Nemlei for making the rape scene genuinely uncomfortable and not the least bit hot. Alright so I just finished all of the routes for part 3.
And read through some of the threads from when it released.

I think Andrew is less evil than people are making out...90% of the stuff he does is because he gets pushed there by Ashley.
Both of them are awful of course but it's the combination that does it.
The Shots and Stuff ending makes it pretty unambiguously clear that they are both interested in each other romantically.
With the caveat being that it doesn't go the way either of them want due to trust issues and a mountain of other problems
My prediction is that Decay part 2 is going to resolve this (somewhat) and will have a somewhat happy ending.

Basically at this point I think Decay should be thought of as the 'Andew' side of the story, and how he goes about fixing things, or not.
Burial will bring us back heavily to Ashleys perspective. Which in turn will have its bad/good ending.

I was pretty surprised in general with how dark this route got. Ashley getting the shit beat out of her was rough.

There seems to be some salt over perceived retcons...but realistically this is an early access game and should be expected.
The scope has changed massively since chapter 1.
Overall I'm really impressed with the route, all of the original charm is still present.

Burial Andrew is just a Decay Andrew that speed through most of his Decay development. Burial Andrew is already aware that being normal is a lost cause and he lets his mask slip while Decay Andrew still clings on to the fantasy. That's not to mean Burial won't have any Andrew development since he's still deeply in denial about wanting to fuck his sister but it'll definitely focus more on developing Ashley

As for demons, are you serious?
LU and ???? represent both Ashley's and Andrew's personal demons and shortcomings and Nemlei keeps hammering you with how making deals with demons is not a good thing for you, Ashley encounters ??? at her lowest points with Andrew and whenever she listens to it, she makes things worse.
In episode 2, she meets ??? after her lovers spat in the car, and subsequent altrecation with the parents makes things worse for them, it's just that in Burial route Andrew is checked out from trying to have personal agency and just prfers to follow Ashley.

To add onto things, LU is a metaphor for Andrew's anxiety, it's something Andrew unintentionally releases as a child, and by the time he confronts it again as an adult, it's become so big and powerful, it can't even be properly summoned to the human realm anymore, just as Andrew's anxiety due to his piling issues has grown to the point it's killing him.

Andrew's love for Ashley is muddled by him feeling like a failure for protecting her from her trauma, and to a large degree, he blames himself, and it prevents him from being able to understand his love for her is genuine and not pathological.
Succumbing to Lord Unknown would mean that Andrew sacrifices what makes him Andrew, his personal agency, what he actually wants, in favor of following a parental figure, becoming his Andy, to have an easier life, becoming an ultimate regression, which would also inevitably make him not care about Ashley anymore and ruin their relationship forever.
He'd get a 2nd lease at life like he's always wanted, but it'd come at a cost of love for the only person he ever cared about, had a conection with, trading that for seeming reputability, and falling back onto the role of a follower to a parent, killing Andrew off for Andy.

For Ashley, ???? is her personal demon, and he represents her obsession with control, a desire for power, paranoia.
He manifests around a low point in her and Andrew's relationship after a year of strain, after she tried to stop being Leyley, and grow up for him, only to meet rejection which crushed her, retreating into the protective persona that is Leyley.

Now, she is falling to her old tricks and feels like since Andrew isn't interested in her romantically, the only way she can keep him around is if he needs her, the talisman, the power of the demon.

In episode 2, she enters a dreamscape with ? right after her lover's spat with Andrew in the car, which again ties into her insecurities over losing Andrew so she resorts to only methods she thinks will work for her at this point.

it's an addiction, and the more she uses it, the more she doubts Andrew, the more she second guesses what he's doing, and it is also driving a wedge between them that may irrepairably ruin their relationship, her reliance on controlling him is taking over her entire life, to the point she's mistaking genuine attempts from him to improve as a form of manipulation and I think ???? is lying to her when he shows the last vision, I think her and Andrew choose to leave demons behind and they burn the talisman together.

I have a feeling that if Andrew chooses Lord Unknow, erases his love for Ashley, then he'll leave her behind, and she'll be driven to the deepest pit of despair, and choose to ascend to demonhood, likely killing ??? in the proccess since she'd be able to guess he's at fault for this, and she'd become not a short-sighted small fry demon like ????, or a charismatic leader that is Lord Unknown, but a being consisting only of despair and rage, a revenant who still remembers her old life, desperate to fill the void in her heart that now will never be filled.
Her ultimate regression would be turning into Leyley and killing Ashley, never to feel whole again.

Brilliant analysis. I never put the size comparisons together and figured it was just for comparing between the two demons in age or power but these are very good points. I also agree with misdirected visions, Decay's vision happens only when Andrew slinks further into Andy instead of gaining confidence in asserting himself, and I have had a strong feeling even before the recent changes to Burial's vision that it's going to be a similar story there with Ashley having no idea how to control Andrew after his demeanor changes.

I don't understand the people complaining about the writing. It's about on par with the first 2 chapters. There's only one line that's objectively pretty shit. The, "family value pack" line. And even then, it's pretty easy to overlook considering how far it is into the narrative. As far as anything else... I think people are missing the part where Andrew's vision with the trinket showed that he would make a big fucking mistake later, probably because of Lord Unknown. Then Ashley gets a vison from ??? directly where Andrew comes back around to forgive Ashley (by probably accepting his own guilt) and cuts the connection to the demons. ??? obvious has a bias against Andrew and would characterize Andrew's efforts as empty
Unless ??? is being literal and Andrew is going to have the option to manipulate Ashley and sever her connection to ??? so he can't interfere with with Lord Unknowns yet unknown plan. Definitely a dead end like Andy.

Burial will have to be about Ashley confrontg her own trauma and come to trust Andrew and potentially see that they don't need demons to stay together.

Decay has her introduce him as useless, disloyal and that she doesn't know why she keep him around so the demon starts trying to cut away the dead weight that is dragging his tool down.
Burial has her act loving and possessive so he willingly gives her a pass to bring Andrew with her to his realm.
I assume the shared vision was to show that the trinket works for him on that path too, unlike Decay where all it does is leave him stranded in the demon realm.

Given how absolutely crushed Ashley looks afterwards, the fact that she uncharacteristically started giving him the cold shoulder afterwards, and that their conversation before it was the last time they ever got along and talked to each other in a more mature manner, I think this genuenly was an attempt by Ashley to grow up and mature for him, embrace him romantically so they could elope, only to meet rejection by Andrew.

I doubt she was seriously expecting them to bang with their parents right in the other room. That exact scene I see her as teasing him, but that follows nearly immediately after she was uncharacteristically sincere about eloping and running away together. You can tell by how much she's stuttering and how she is unconfident in her speech here that she's not just teasing, but actually asking him if they'd run away with each other.

Episode 3 tells us a lot about the direction Nemlei has decided to take the game to. It's much more serious and 'sane', way more complex than the first two episodes. If we were to judge by the aforementioned Ep. 1-2 standard, the endings are really simple, with Decay being the bad one and Burial being the good one. But now that we know that's not what's going to happen, we probably shouldn't expect any 'insane' options to lead to a good outcome, we actually have to put aside the funnies and judge their psyches from a serious standpoint.
As such, while Burial Sane might seem to be a little retarded, it's not a 'Julia path' at all, rather it's further character development for Ashley, as she finally decides to set Andrew free and to stop viewing sex as leverage. Getting rid of this childish perception of love and unhealthy, broken attachment will allow for mature, healthy (or at least as healthy as it can get) romantic love to develop.
Besides, Burial is about Ashley changing. In order to achieve this route she needs to trust Andrew and overcome her fear of abandonment.

Ive played the episode yesterday and the biggest issue i have is that the story almost dosent seem to actually go forward at all??

Like it goes into deep backstories of the characters but we already knew all of that from previous chapters through dialog,so whats the point?Ashley and Andrew interacting with eachother in the present time were definetly best part of the game but that was like 1/2 1/4 of the whole episode?

Hope next time nemlei focus more on duo dealing with the cult/water company and tones it down with time wasting puzzles

It's easier to communicate with the demon specifically because it's not Ashley so he doesn't have to be face to face with his issues, which is going to become a major point of his character development to be honest with Ashley.
Ashley seems to trust ??? more than Andrew because he's wishy washy and the demon is very straight forward with it's intentions. But we know she talks out against ??? in favor of Andrew consistently and her character development is going to be trusting Andrew over ???'s questionable vision of Andrew lying to her and "betraying" her by getting rid of ???

that's not right, firstly, if something was completely out of character it wouldn't be a choice in the game (see the olive branch ending not being included). second, you can choose the splat ending even with the ring, it doesn't require a QTE fail or anything, and it's not even out of character for Andrew. Also, didn't you claim the entire Decay branch was a fail state? I remember someone with very similar wording to your post saying that.

LU might be the same way. We don't know how he got so powerful but he could be the top of the pyramid where he gets underlings that pay tribute to him. So Ashley would be just another underling and he is somewhat interested in Andrew hatching but not really.
