I seriously doubt it's happening this time. The funny part to me is how hard they botched weapons in FFXVI. In many past FFs, there's a Monk or Martial Artist Job or character fitting the role. There are plenty of fist fighters. The whole thing with Clive getting many Eikons and DMC style could've given him many different weapons for each of them.

If Clive had a Fist weapon, he could've gone martial arts only instead of being a sword character. But even his home game botched that for him.

Idk what to tell you. Many people say it's reactable but it's i20. It does have a very slow looking animation though. The fuzzy is pretty easy to do, but if Lili mixes up her timing she should get you. That being said I think shit that is like i20 is probably reactable for people with extremely good reflexes.

16 was all vision and spectacle but poor execution like most modern games.

I've seen endgame gameplay of 16 and it's just some unironical spam-all-cooldown-mobile-game type of shit.
Wakka might have been a better fit for T8, given that CotW got Ronaldo.

That's one of my biggest dislikes about FFXVI. The devs called it

How can they be DMC inspired and botch what DMC already showed them the proper way? Or even FFXV, casual as fuck, still has element weaknesses. They think FF players going into FFXVI need even MORE casual than FFXV? Like that FFXV is some rocket brain surgery with

The cutscenes are genuinely well choreographed and carry the game even though the gameplay is extremely basic. That is the critical difference. You ain't playing Asuras Wrath for the game, but to watch the 3D anime with QTEs.

But the game was like 100 years in development, got ported to 6 different engines, characters rewritten multiple times, content cut and resold as DLC and if you actually want to know the story you have to watch the anime, the 3 and half hours long 3d movie which is a prologue, and then probably another live action show hidden in some japanese 7/11 gachapon machine that shows you the real ending.
So much incompetence can only be assumed to be actually malicious.

Exactly. Asura's Wrath fully knows and embraces what it is. Just the way the QTEs are actually relevant to the character's actions makes it far more engaging than most QTEs. It doesn't try and advertise

FFXVI especially IMO dumbs down so much that it's too shallow to be called DMC lite. I'm a long time DMC player and even accounting for it never going to be close, it falls too damn low for me.

People today are all ADHD or at least devs think they are. Some shooters have clearly right-handed characters use left-handed guns so hot brass flies in their face. It makes 0 IRL sense and is a discomfort but devs seem to think players need to be shown the gun works or there needs to be enough shit happening on-screen or they'd fall asleep. I don't know if players are really like this or if devs think they are, lowering their standards until they really are in a self fulfilling prophecy.

Tests of skill are usually annoying when you suck at them. But when you do finally overcome them it's very satisfying. Would you prefer everything to be just guessing instead? Have you actually practiced reacting to it in p-mode? b2 is often considered the classic "pseudo-mix" for db2, you can use that as the mid (although personally I feel I'm more likely to get hit by cd1 when trying to react to db2). You can also simulate the mental stack of a match a bit by making the Hei dummy do throws as well you have to break and/or different moves you have to punish on block differently. Though it makes sense to just start with db2 and your mid of choice.

You can probably find statistics about ADHD being more "diagnosed" in the past decade.
I mean, even my 7 year old cousin got recently prescribed ADHD meds because he was too active (which is normal for boys that age), but the consequences of that is that he got more aloof and almost absent minded, and given how most people are on some sort of meds nowadays, which numb them, of course you want to make super duper hypergraphical vfx that have 654646 sound effects and voice lines going on so that people full of drugs can feel anything. Games need to be hyperstimulating because the average audience is highly desensitized.
Take TikTok or shorts reels for example and how most viewed vids are memes with the same music or sound effects on repeat and how people watch every single of them.
These people don't want to think at all, they just want to press button and win.
That's the audience now and i guarantee you games are developed with that in mind given how most publishers always have marketing teams locked up in conference rooms trying to figure out the type of slop that will sell.

Maybe one day they'll try selling to the crowd that isn't. It's really amazing how people can take the shallowest shit and praise it even when the other half of the community criticizes it for being extremely lacklustre.

Speaking of shallow, even IGN says the RPG mechanics are lacking in FFXVI.

I am not hopeful. The consumers will just get more desensitized that it will lead to games simply not selling because no matter what they do, they will be considered "boring".

I don't entirely disagree, T8's way of dealing with this however is just awful.

When I play Tekken, especially pre-T8 (actually true for T8 as well but with overall pro-aggression mechanics it's a bit different), I sometimes wonder why forward movement has to be so much riskier than backwards movement (with Soulcalibur it's the opposite, have some huge issues with how that game handles movement as well though). You can sometimes just explode for moving an inch forward at the wrong moment, by some launchers that are very risk free to throw out like electric and df2. What is your potential reward for moving forward? Just getting into range where your attacks reach. Contrast with backdash - you literally block mids and highs simultaneously unlike with forward movement and potentially create a whiff for a huge reward, sometimes full launch. Is backdash overpowered in T7 and T8 then? Well, not really. They have balanced it, just in a really wack way by just making it incredibly slow compared to forward movement and just not very evasive at all. And also by giving moves huge hitboxes. And obnoxious NH or CH launching string extensions that can make whiff punish attempts suicidal. 2D games backwards movement makes more sense to me - backwalk if you want to move backwards slowly but safely, backdash if you want a faster but riskier and a more committal option. In tekken both backdash and backwalk basically fulfill the former function.

This is unironically what should happen. generic and df1 spam is not the only alternative to t8. Hell Kazumi mashing jabs and df1s with auto-forward movement in your face constantly is hardly the polar opposite of T8. T7 didn't need less movement or more pressing, but when the pressing happens it should be cooler and flashier moves with more personality than df1 and jab. Not literally flashy as in t8 style seizure inducing flashes of light, just stylish animations.

I love ff but 16 was an unholy flop. Sold only 3.5 mil copies, thats horrific for the franchise. Noctis inclusion didn’t really help either inclusion, 15 isnt a great game either but solid amazingly and he had alot of impact on 7 by bringing in new players.
