I would have preferred the Andy route to be expanded where he eventually breaks down and reverts hardcore the other way instead of it "RONG CHOICE FAGET" joke. Which leads into S&S instead of locking it behind a choice in chapter 2 that somehow has such a big sweeping change.

Reposting my initial thoughts on Decay:
Nemlei perfectly captured the desire, the distant but close enough to reach out but too ashamed to touch, and the abhorrent self disgust. All without ever once saying the “I word” or something like, “They're my sibling. I can’t/shouldn’t.”
It’s really good.

The Shots and Shit ending. Rape, misery, and sadness made me feel bad. I actually fucking cried after the drunken Andrew rape scene and prefer the dual suicide for that ending over anything else.

Maybe everything? Or just Nemlei seeing my post about the significance of Ashley removing Andrew from the cage like a year ago and thinking to herself, "Fuck! I didn't mean that! I need to make some corrects that's not supposed to happen with Ashley yet :)."

Not really. Everything was pretty straight forward in what would happen in the devlogs. Other than that ??? is a liar like all demons.

How much worse (exciting) Decay can get! I absolutely love unhappy and bittersweet endings. I can enjoy a good ending every now and then but this doesn't feel like the type of game that can end well without some sort of catch. I just know Nemlei won't disappoint me in that department.

Going to post my negative thoughts on Renee and nemlei's writing for this chapter; if you think it's bait by all means ignore me but I want to have an actual conversation with people that don't worship every aspect of the game
>TLDR; Nemlei, the author, mis-wrote Renne and similar to the game at large, wants to control her creation instead of letting it naturally progress.

In chapter 1 she was a somewhat sympathetic mother and the audience got the impression she sold out her children as a 'last resort'. She abandoned her children but didn't do so without remorse
Chapter 2 presented her as an unprepared parent and heavily set her character as a NEGLECTFUL mother. She pushed the responsibility onto her son and disregarded her daughter (and even 'tried with her'). These two *could* work in tandem, but chapter 3's characterization of her destroys how she was previously written. Now instead of being a NEGLECTFUL mother, nemlei characterized her as ABUSIVE - and there is a massive difference when writing these two.
She actively villainizes andrew throughout the chapter and rarely interacts with ashley, it's supposed to be ashley she 'tried' with, but in order to make andrew's choices and mentality more in line with her ""current"" desire for the game nemlei overwrites previously established characterization.

This isn't even mentioning how she's starting to backtrack on what she wants for the story and she's falling into the pit-trap of forcing a game to provide a message instead of letting the audience consume and decide for themselves. In the same way nemlei should write renee as she is (and not how nemlei WANTS her to be), she's forcing the story into a direction she wants instead of how it would progress if left up to the characters.
I legitimately want her to reflect over what exactly she wants to do with TCOAAL before creating more of it - she's being wishy washy.

and ironically TCOAAR turned out to be more in line with Renee's personality

The cliffhanger is him realizing that he loves Ashley and he's conflicted because he doesn't want to harm her and the hatred he has for one side of her personality pushing him away while she still shows willingness. So it's probably going to come down to Andrew choosing how to handle Ashley/Leyley.

Going off the trinket vision we see near the start it seems like something bad happens to Ashley and she comes back as a Demon.

I agree. I by no means want Renee to be a good mother or even a good person but giving her SOME humanity would make the siblings choice of killing her have more impact. Because it makes Andrew and Ashley's action somewhat justified and I don't want that. A&A aren't our heroes, we just follow their story. I get that coffin is about shitty people in a shitty world but how am I supposed to care about A&A's descent into literal hell when the people they kill are just as bad.

she's way out of character in that one. renee was never a morally gray character and villain doesn't have to be relatable/understandable for story to be good. ch 3 gave a lot of excuses for renee becoming evil so it makes sense

I had my problems with the Renee mod but the devs actually want to improve and I hope they succeed. Personally, I like this version of Renee. There are clearly 2 big "traumas" in Coffin that Nemlei obviously has and wants to use the game as a way to vent about them.

Sex and parental issues.

The two most negatively characterized things in the game so far (by that I mean things that are shown as being just awful stuff with no jokes or humor) are Renee's parenting and Andrew's attitude towards sex and Ashley and Julia as women. They're both things that are spelt out to the player instead of being left up for interpretation probably because Nemlei is so emotionally invested in them she doesn't want you to not feel the same as her about these things.

It's kinda clear to me that Episodes 1 and 2 were made under the same idea of just making a dark comedy VN with some other stuff sprinkled in, but Nemlei changed her mind about what she wants Coffin to be for episode 3, and she put more serious emotional stuff in that related directly to her. The was the game talks about how Andrew wanted to abuse Julia and how Julia felt around him feels to me like Nemlei was in this situation with someone and is writing about it. It's the same thing with Renee, Nemlei probably has major parental issues so while Episodes 1 and 2 were more motivated by just making something interested, Episode 3's depiction of Renee is more motivated by emotional anger and Nemlei's wants based on her experience.

Not saying any of this is bad, just making a discussion of it.

She might pop in from time to time but I unironically think it's this one. The level of discussion in this thread about the actual game is miles ahead of anywhere else, and we know she mapped out the whole story and even released some teaser images from Episode 3A before releasing Episode 2 so we can't have influenced it to that level.

We knew from previous chapters that Renee was a very bad parent who literally sold her children for organs so she could fuck off and live lavishly the rest of her lfie
But in this chapter we saw that she's hardworking, resourceful, capable of mad love and incredibly loyal (yes I remember the "these two seem to fancy one another" line. but it was too little to make conclusions from). She's a genuinely not bad and in some aspects good person except for her horrible parenting

The various entities seem to have extremely limited skillsets. It really does seem like the guy asking for winning lottery numbers had the right idea because there's fuck all else demons can do. Leaving it up to interpretation would have been better. Just finished episode 3 and I can confidently say this might be my favorite legit ending so far.
This was a wonderful experience in character revelation and interactions between these two were legit some of the best I had seen in any story ever. There's only few media that can match the story telling and the impact this ending and its route had given me.

Its fucked up, it makes you recoil and dread what comes next but it makes you want to continue where the roads leads to. You nearly feel bad but these characters just make it apparent that they aren't angels, neither one of them and its barely even their fault due to how their parental figure raised. With her out of the picture, it left two monsters to roam freely and that freedom left them to seek mutual destruction.
I fucking love it.
Even if other endings release and are just as good, this one will honestly be in my heart among my favorites.
Also where the fuck is the ring????

Lord Unknown and his role to the story is that
he represents a part of Andrew's story that is largely unexplored, that ultimately , he was just a kid during it all and he never had a childhood, he never really had a parent.

Andy still exists because Andrew yearns for that ease of burden, he to some extent wants to infantilize himself for an authority figure like a parent, settling for Ashley since she's with him, and I think Lord Unknown is that parental figure he's been missing.

Lord Unknown can delete his romantic attachment to Ashley, kill Andrew so that only Andy remains, a child with a parent who has plans for life for him, and all he has to do is do what he says, infantilize himself just to have that connection he never had with Renee or Douglas.

While a demon, he has so far shown him far more concern and empathy, and he talks to Andrew like he would with a child, towering above him when he's a small soul, trying to coax what his problems are out of him.

Lord Unknown is probably the only character who has ever, ever been there to try and work it through with him on a level above him, he represents a 2nd chance to have some semblance of childhood, even if it is to serve the whims and follow a demon.
I think the crux of 3B is going to be Andrew reconciling his trauma of not having a childhood, and whether he wants to let it all go and follow Lord Unknown, become his Andy.

as Ashley-centric flashbacks have been sparse in Decay, but Leyley is as bad as she is because Ashley can't get a genuine connection with anyone, she tries to be genuine and wants a reaction, whether it's punishment or support from Renee or Andrew, but they both react with rejection, irony, ridicule, or all of the above, and I think Leyley largely comes from exactly this, it's her going "oh yeah, well i can do it too!" (like for example, Andrew ignoring her when she wanted to play hide and seek so she wanders off into the woods, Renee's lack of reaction to her, only punishing Andrew which I think to her means that Renee only really cares about Andrew and Ashley is not even worth punishing) and it's something she's been piling on more and more and the one that probably hurt her the most was Andrew rejecting her genuine attempt to connect with him, and with how hurt she looked at him not wanting to be with her romantically, I think it really was Ashley and not Leyley, and his rejection hurt her so bad she's mostly retreated back to being Leyely as we see it in the story.
All of this makes me think Leyley is not really how Ashley is, but rather a shell, a cope, a persona she puts on to adopt a strong face to deal with adversities, rejection from Andrew wanting to be with her, in only way she can with how powerless she ultimately is.
Andrew doesn't consider what would Ashley, Ashley, not Leyley want, he knows what he wants and conciously denies himself, but with Ashley, it's more about what she needs, not wants, he considered leaving her behind with the Demon because she's taken care of, the demon replacing Andrew himself as her protector, but he blinds himself to what she wants.
For all of his talk of wanting to see Ashley and not Leyley, he would much rather keep banging his head against the wall with Leyley as opposed to confronting this honestly with Ashley.

I'm fine with the puzzles in the dream world/realm in-between, but I think they feel out of place irl. I was dissapointed by the lack of Ashley, but if Decay is Andrew-focused and Burial is Ashley-focused then it's alright. I want to see flashbacks from her perspective. The surgeon felt ham-fisted and too cartoony. I'm Burial through and through. So to begin with, there's only so much Decay could satisfy me with.

I mean, objectively everyone did right? Such as how the souls act according to their own morals. I was surprised that LU had a connection with Andrew, maybe that's why he only showed up when Andrew was there for the summoning in Episode 2.

Burial Burial Burial. I don't care what anyone says, NO ONE can convince me to not hope for these two to be lovey-dovey together and smile and laugh. Even if it isn't that, it's still the route I chose. Decay just isn't.

I can't properly express on how many things legitimately satisfied me on decay part 2. Every ending, decision and story beat were perfect. They went on a path that was unexpected but something I personally hoped for.
I am a sucker for tragic romance and this shit is my butter and jam and I can confidently say this is probably one of the best stories that encapsulates a fucked up and tragic romance.

Puzzle games and the author being too ne the nose when it comes to talking to the audience.
Alright, I understand adding puzzle games to add up spice to the game and I really did enjoy them at the first time playing through the routes. But it became a bit too excessive and it honestly broke my immersion quite a few times but it wasn't that bad.
And yes Nemlei, there's retards who haven't passed elementary school and are deciding to shit on the game but don't fucking bicker to them you stupid twat. It really makes it a bit fucking tiring when devs are influenced by the community.

And how quickly the story took a dark turn.
I really thought incest was a end-game goal but seeing how quickly it went from simple kissing to straight up sex and impregnation really fucking surprised me. And this is not to mention abuse, rape and all other sorts of things that I'd expect to see on the fourth episode and not in this.
Not saying its bad but damn did it really surprise by the story taking such a drastic dark turn so quickly.

Don't forget that this is the run where they regress into their worst selves, Ashley killed him in her vision, and still refuses to respect him, he absolutely fucking snaps and tries to murder her, completely unravels and can no longer put on a front, and discovers he doesn't have it in him to leave, even though he knows it's bad for them, and hurts her despite not wanting to.
Ashley, meanwhile, keeps getting visions where he fucking murders her, so she can only see where letting him fuck her is the one way where they survive.

We need a flashback of her raising Andrew before Ashley was born, maybe one where she gets the idea to have Ashley and then to getting to see her be born and the initial days of caring for Ashely, and getting to see just exactly when and why everything turned t so wrong.

Andrew mentioned having had to raise Ashley ever since he was like 5 or 6, so I wonder if it only started being bad then or if that's just the moment when Renee trusted Andrew enough to care for Ashley in ways that he couldn't before being too young.

I am still replaying quite a few parts of the game because I haven't played the visions yet but the most insight decay part 2 has given us is about how Andrew isn't any better than Ashley. In fact, the routes have gone and told us that Andrew not only more vile but also borderline psychopathic and 100% more violent than Ashley.
While Ashley is by no means a good person, she still loved Andrew in her own twisted and amoral way. But she still cared for Andrew and wouldn't want to hurt him or see him die.
Andrew meanwhile was literally about to kill Ashley on so many points of the game it speaks volume on how much of a broken and vile person he is. Julia sending him the letter just seals the deal and we basically get confirmation that Andrew is a cold-hearted liar who doesn't care for anybody in the world... Aside from Ashley.
The one thing he also hates the most.
Its his addiction, his pride and joy, his worst and best sister, his lover and only betrothed. The one where he's stuck with and is willing end everything for her and himself.

The story.
Decay and legitimately planted itself as the more interesting branch of the story than Burial. But this isn't for certain but if Burial has half of the story beats as the Decay, this game might legitimately be a solid 10/10.
