i stream this game to a friend and by the end of it we were pic related

Or, I can be wrong and she's not actually hellbent on starting a war on fetishists of both genders from both sides of the internet(channers and tumblrinas), which gives her the additional choice of stepping down, taking the "L" and finishing the story as it was supposed to be, fetishists be damned.
Take the moniker of "romance writer" and use it to lure people in for future terror works.

This guy calls it the love route. Its the guide I was following so I didn't mess up again, but it seems to split between "Burial" and "Decay" and you can do Friendship with Ashley or Alabama. Picking Alabama seems to hint towards a bad end. But picking this option has led me to a path where I never even shoot Andrew in the first place. Like Ashley doesn't have the 2nd dream sequence. Which scares me because I thought the whole break point for Cliffhanger was choosing to shoot or not.

It's all relative, Andy and Leyley being together in the afterlife or in some seaside manor can both fit their love story. Truly I see them ending like Sweeney Todd though that has already been shown to an extent. Whilst I do hold hope for them to live with each other, them dying together can also be beautiful as long as it is done well which I have faith in Nemlei to do so. Simply as there are so many endings to their story shown and hinted at, it would be curious if one path was held over the others as being 'fantastical'.

I think Lord Unknown is using Andrew to get to Ashley (obviously) and help her Ascend to demonhood which includes killing her mortal body.

Or Lord Unknown will split Ashley and Leyley apart where Leyley becomes a demon and Ashley suddenly gets more mentally mature. Then either Andrew grows sick of or regrets Adult Ashley because she's painfully boring or uninterested and turns to Demon Leyley for attention, or Demon Leyley (having distilled the worst leyley traits) immediately turns on him after the process to take ownership.

You'll have to back out of the deal to get the relatively good end since both of those are not great ones.

And the choice to decide which route you're on will be far enough back that it will be a couple hours journey each fork like cliffhanger vs Shots and Such. Maybe even something retarded like who betrays who in the basement in Ep2 if Nemlei is feeling especially cruel.

I think Burial could also have elements similar to this with Ashley seeking ways to keep Andrew, like literally owning his soul like she implied in the basement. Or her trying to Ascend Andrew to make him reliant on her feeding him souls to survive.

I've been thinking about this. Here's my theory:

It's certain that both routes were much smaller in scope until Episode 2 gave her a bunch of money. Even in the most optimistic projection without the RPGMaker limitation that slowed her progress, Nemlei could AT BEST expect to get the current half Decay route finished by mid-2024, but most likely late summer. Definitely not the entire thing. The entire Episode 2 took about seven and a half months, even if one and a half of those (September-October) months were only partially committed to development due to real life obligations, by her own admission. So it gives you a good idea of her pace of progress.

When you take that into account, it made sense for their relationship to be further along their respective progressions at the end of Episode 2 because Episode 3A and 3B were supposed to be fairly quick wrap-ups, probably around 3 hours each. But the scope of Episode 3 was since then expanded significantly, and suddenly it no longer made sense because it hindered her ability to drag out the plot. So both Andrew's negativity and Ashley's openness to trusting Andrew got dialed back in Decay and Burial respectively to enable a slower resolution more fit for the 8-10 hour long routes that they now have turned into.

I have this feeling that there was a bigger age gap between Julia/Jane than there was Ashley/Andrew so she might have been more experienced with relationships and motherly towards Julia. She probably sniffed out how scummy Andrew was early on and was vindicated by the things Julia told her but couldn't get through to Julia.

I know it's a long way off, but chapter 4 is at most only a year away. We waited for a year and a half with only a fraction of the content we have now. Since Chapter 4 has been in development for half a year, it's very possible that we may not even wait a whole year, especially considering how there's no engine reset delaying the game this time. And now that we have like triple the content of before, I feel like it won't be so painful. Also, am I the only one who felt like the cliffhanger didn't feel like too much of one? I honestly felt more jaded by the ending from chapter 2, if oerhaps only since we didn't know how long we'd wait. But otherwise this route felt complete up to this point, Andrew finally dealing with his himself, and ready to make a deal- it just left me satsified compared to how abrupt chapter 2 was. Maybe Ashley not truly being present for the last hour helped make this feel conclusive, like there was no banter I wanted to continue, and there was enough character development to feel like it was conclusive. That, and there being a complete altermate route that is several hours long and ends properly. Weird to think there's an actual ending to the game now, and that is technically will be the defacto end for the game for a while.

If you mean it's bad as in "unfortunate" or "tragic" for the protagonists then yeah, I don't think these two characters can possibly have a "everything is fixed and they live happily ever after" ending after murdering multiple people, including two children. Screenshots from prior to chapter 2. The fact that both them are for the cliffhanger route points to it being the first route made, as well as decay being made over burial always having been the plan. But considering this was prior to the success of chapter 2, and the timetable was still for a complete game release by 2024, it seems like the route to the Shots and Such ending was the major point of expansion for decay that wouldn't have otherwise existed had chapter 2 not blown up. It also points to chapter 4 always having been the envisioned goal of decay, although that seems very clear now. It also makes sense as even in the chapter 1 days, she said that the planned routes wouldn't be explicitly bad or good on first glance, so this lines up with that. I just find it fascinating that this part of chapter 3 has been in development since around summer 2023 (check Devlog 4 for that)

It's not even specifically about that it might not happen, but the entire story could be warped entirely to fit a new narrative that's still 2+ years away from us seeing. The change to the vision choice is a 4th wall break aimed at people that already played the game as the normal warning was already enough. The basement choice backtracks on the theme almost entirely.

True, but what do you mean by backtracking on the theme? Because I think our interpretations of the theme differ since, personally, I don't see how the theme has changed at all.

I think that'll be a possible path but not one you necessarily have to take. That would be a perfect place for the stars to come into play if they'll affect the endings. Only by taking the time to make each other happy can they put their trust in each other when it really matters.

Fucking Andrew to keep him around was always the plan. She says she's up for it but could go either way and mainly wants to keep him around in her inner monologue after seeing the Burial vision. Nemlei confirmed out of universe that sex with Andrew was about "keeping him wrapped around her little finger." She acts out that plan in Decay's fail states. She openly admits to him that's the case in the Tower scene. It was always there, people just either didn't notice or didn't want to believe it. So now it's been changed to be more obvious.

Same with trusting him with the parents. She outright states she's only trusting him because she feels he couldn't leave her anyway. She's happy to see how he acts when she does, but why? Is it just Leyley starting to think trading Andy for Andrew might not be such a bad thing after all and nothing has really changed? We'll find out but it could go either way, just like Decay seems to.

Also true, but I could argue that Ashley truly believed Andrew wouldn't even consider betraying her since she has the amulet, but that's mostly an interpretation of mine and doesn't hold much actual weight as an argument.

The building gets a notice that there are parasites in the water. The kids get tested and are waiting for the results in quarantine. Renee claims she hasn't drunk any contaminated water and goes to rent a hotel room with her husband where she proceeds to ride him non-stop without the kids being able to stop them.

During this time they get tested by an independent lab which says they're healthy. Because they are out of containment, the Water Company tracks them down and has a message sent to them that tells them to meet for compensation. They are sent to the Surgeon's office where they try to pressure them to take tests.

Renee sees through the bullshit and correctly calls out the surgeon as trying to lock them in quarantine by messing with the results.

The surgeon tells them unprompted that the kids are going to die regardless. Wouldn't they like to die together with them?

Renee says no. The surgeon finally folds, tells them they'll pay them and to get life insurance to get them more money to keep quiet about it.

It's unclear when exactly the shoot-to-kill orders were issued. But when Toxisoda/Brown Water Company has access to hitmen, police the media and the government. Douglas actually does step in with the correct assessment that they are in way over there head. Something Andrew acknowledges when he finds out the details of the scheme himself and convinces Ashley that they can't solve their problems trying to take the surgeon and the co-conspirators down.

Could they have negotiated for the kids? Hard to say. The mom did ask if she could help them. Which when you're talking to a person that is locking down entire buildings to harvest and murder for his own sexual gratification and control over hitmen, media, police and government is a bold fucking move.

The surgeon tells Renee there's nothing she can do. "The parasites are very real, very deadly. and your kids will soon be very dead."

At this point, every one of them knows the parasites aren't real. So Renee asks how they're going to die and the surgeon repeats "parasites". Which means they're not going to tell her and that this is the final offer.

As far as Renee knows, they're going to die "very soon".

1 month, 2 months, 3 months. The mom has face her sin each time they get a call from the kids and she knows she's a terrible person where even her voice wavers telling Ashley "g-goodbye".

But there's nothing she can do at this point even if she wanted to. Deliveries are being turned away and lethal enforcement of the quarantine means they're not going to be able to rescue them.

In the end, she does mention "some say absence makes the heart grow fonder" and the devlogs confirm that there was a little love there. Enough that had Ashley had not pulled the gun and put them in the basement, she and Andrew could have made a deal and went their own separate ways without snitching.

She was an extremely irresponsible underrage minor, who didn't know how to care for a family. I mean, even within the same game the level of violence directed towards Ashley is comparatively low.
Just a bit earlier you can murder an entire family who was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
But those were quite literally nameless, faceless NPCs that you as the player have no reason to care about.

I spent the last couple of days just playing and replaying all of the chapters to get the batteries and all the routes and seeing whats different etc etc.
I have spent multiple hours in a row doing nothing but playing Coffin killing my sleep schedule in the process staying up until it getting dark and becoming morning into noon again doing nothing but coffin.
I have officially 100 percented everything now in the new update, at least as far as we know all endings visions stars etc. and I realize I just completely tapped out all of my coffin content for the next year at the very least until Chapter 4.

There is a sudden crushing realization of what I have just done and being trapped back in the episode titled "Incestfag and Nemlei and the very long eternal excruciating painful wait."

I am leaning on that choice having a small impact on the story, the main difference being that it unlocks the choice to go down a "bad" incest route alongside the "normal" incest route, but has no effect if you choose not to.

I'm interested in what the skull implies in this case, because the only other instance of a skull that i remember is after Ashley tells the demon she doesn't know why she keeps Andrew around, so skulls probably show something that puts real strain on the relationship of the siblings.

I know this scene is optional and I need to refresh myself on how their meeting was in Decaying Along, but I'm highly interested to learn more about this scene from Chapter 2.

Obviously we know LU is interested in Andrew and his Grime Soul, for reasons we don't yet know, but he's clearly being name dropped as LU and yet when Andrew meets him again later it's simply "Something Frightening"
Which I also wonder if it's some type of subconscious trauma with him from summoning LU as a child?
Which speaking of the Something Frightening he is very fearful of LU during this scene and is completely silent during all of it, and it's something to know too that Andrew POV it is canon he can't understand LU in this scene.

The decay intro scene takes place during the Andy summoning in the flashback and his soul gets marked after that so that would be the mark that he gets on his hand in certain routes right?
Meaning he always has it and LU can always find him, but then why does it only show up during certain routes and not others?

And Six Eyes is interesting because his design is clearly based off of LU meaning he's seen him before meaning why would LU come out to see him in particular?
I'm very excited to learn more about LU

LU mentions that he can barely be summoned into the mortal world, so maybe Andrew didn't make the connection between the presumably weakened or otherwise lesser form of LU in the mortal world, one that couldn't even properly communicate with them, and the fully formed LU he meets in the realm-between.

I think the skull symbolizes Ashley's possessiveness, that's why you now have to put the green plushie back into the cage.
If I had to guess her character arc will be about learning to believe Andrew when he says that he loves her, flaws and all, and that she doesn't have to make him miserable to keep him around.
Basically, despite appearances their relationship is still toxic.
The best ending will still be behind that door but there are still hurdles to overcome.

I don't think the mark on his hand is directly related to LU, it appears in the Andy route where his soul is basically collateral for ??? and burial where it's not really clear why he got the mark.

Yeah it's really interesting.
The only commonality I can think of between Andy route and Burial is his "subservience" to Ashley, or maybe his soul is changing in both routes do to his self-image and when that happens the mark gets stronger?
And maybe it's something that only appears physically when his soul changes in such a way that it gives LU more power over him so it manifests more?

Speaking of ??? gives him a trinket that supposedly works as a communication line to him only in Decaying Along, if we believe it actually works.
This could also be the trinket that we later see Andrew burning in the vision, especially if it was one that didn't work or he was trying to remove his connection from ??? for reasons.
God I already spent so much of my life coffining but I need to replay the new routes again already for theory crafting time.

Andrew's character development is almost finished in Burial and he's happy. Since Decay has mostly focused on Andrew, Burial must necessarily focus on Ashley.
