Miscellaneous thoughts:
- I noticed that with the way Andrew picks between the choices in picrel, it gives him a higher chance of picking the ring, at 50% rather than 33%. Could indicate he wants this ending.
- The bit about Julia talking about "God watching" probably made the Jewlia poster go apeshit.
- I love how the flashbacks essentially make the point that everyone both deserves what they got and deserved none of what they got.
- The choices essentially make this game seem like JiaC on steroids. Even without all the separate endings, you have a bunch of other things that can affect the later game like the batteries and stars. Adds a lot of replayability, unfortunately for a lazy fuck like me
- There's a whole bunch of Thiu-faces in the CGs. (A Thiu-face is what I call a :> face like >>520073550)
- That "Kill yourself" decision image is going to see tons of usage on here for sure.

I feel emotionally exhausted after playing this. It's so long and there's so much angst and trauma and sexual tension and they're so awful and miserable and constantly screaming at each other. Do women really write/read shit like this for fun? I feel like blowing my brains out. I do like it though, I think it's structured this way to make you empathize with Andy and his downward spiral, that feeling of desperate frustration is conveyed really well, maybe too well. What I DON'T like though is the 20 fucking Cool Math Games puzzles I have to suffer through for no reason.

That particular instance doesn't change anything. It's an overt theme overall in every possible route so far and the flashbacks from Andrew in the path to chapter 4 pretty much retroactively make it a key theme between the siblings since Andrew has wanted it but resisted while Ashley is willing and took a shot at it.

There's a part of the puzzle with an open exit at the southwest and a blocked path at the northwest
If you clear the rocks from the latter it'll lead to the ring

After spending the entirety of yesterday playing through all the chapter 3 path, I can confidently say it was GREAT but the Andy (false) ending and shots and such made me feel awful, hopefully lord unknown let's them work through their issues in part 4 for something resembling a happy ending.

I realize of course that it's decay, and we weren't going to get sappy cuddly shit, but while I will acknowledge that the writing is definitely quality in that it made me feel something, it also reinforces that I really don't like seeing the characters I like suffer when there's uncertainty as to whether that suffering will ultimately culminate in something positive (for said characters.) I stand by the fact that right now Decay is not for me, but I enjoyed it all the same.

Just completed this one today. This whole route is a great way of showing how people slide into abusive relationships. I wonder how realistic it is. I know Nemlei writes pretty realistic sibling issues. Can any wife beaters ITT comment on that? It's fitting that Andrew and Ashley didn't become their parents or grandparent, but worse. There isn't even mutual support between the two like with Mom and Dad or a ton of money like with Grandma and Grandpa. The abortion part is especially sad. I've heard so many anons talk about the Graves as parents, and watching them give up on that hurts. Of course, S&S > Splat just because more goes into it. I think Splat is more a callback than anything
>Decaying Along
This one is my favorite not because it's the "canon" one, but because it gives us the deepest dive into Andrew's psyche. I've said this before in my post on DA (which I wrote 20 hours ago lol), but I really relate to Andrew. The main difference between DA and S&S is how much time is spent in the present, and I think DA sows the seeds of deeper and more meaningful character changes. Idk man nobody reads this shit anyway, who cares

This route felt kinda weak. As if it was only there because Nemlei wanted to give us a choice, even if it was a stupid one

It's funny thinking how some people got S&S first time while others got DA. I had no idea why people were calling Decay just miseryporn until I played that route. It does feel kinda weird that the big choice that puts you on one route is the very end of Chapter 2 though.

Not really, but its definetly noticable and annoying that she put so many time wasters and puzzles just so we didn't feel the cliffhanger as much when that wasn't really necesarry. Just the story content of the true ending route is on par with the earlier episodes. She didn't need to pad stuff out.

I don't hate Andrew, but his reality is one of internal struggle with what he's done. Julia has found peace. That's enough for me to forgive Andrew. When it comes to proper ends, there are no purely happy or sad ones in any of her games. They are sort of...semi content but Julia's words to Andrew there combined with some of the meta stuff Nemlei said clearly points to her considering ANY ending where the two get together a bad one. EP3 puts a large amount of focus on how Andrew falling for Ashley was the nail in the coffin (hahahahaa...) to the whole situation, after that it became impossible for him or Ashley to have a normal life moving forward in any way and Andrew only become more and more awful of a human being after it.

It seems there's a really intentional and clear cut narrative about how their romantic/sexual relationship is an outright negative that will never turn out well.

Frankly it's the the most believable ending Coffin will probably have because it's grounded. The demons aren't doing anything radical. There isn't a huge amount of RNG that just favors them like plot armor. It's just not being too far extreme. I'm sure episode4 will have a less-abusive version of this though as it's finale or possibly something beyond that because of Andrew's impending demonic efforts and how it affects him either as intended or if he doesn't go through with the end result.

He just seemed to be a throwaway to try and hammer out plotholes people poke at and provide future context for his involvement. The trailer park ending is by far the best ending for Julia. She moved on from Andrew and came to terms with how much of a lowlife vile guy he was, and not only that but she managed to meet with him again and tell all of that to his face, and then did a powermove by leaving Ashley her used pad.

I think you guys are on about it all wrong with burial now, Decay seemed more Andrew one-sided with all the flashbacks and what not. Everyone was kinda focused on incestuous feelings from andrew but saw how insane Ashley was from the start to him, how much horrible shit he had to put up with her. In this she wanted him to be submissive entirely to her, to be her andy and locked away so no one else can have him while still treating him like shit with no respect.

So Burial could be a reverse on that by making it one sided for ashley, showing she doesn't exactly care about sex or anything else romantic but Andrew realllllyyy wants that so he may be more forceful in burial and an asshole for it making the player sympathetic towards Ashley.

Exactly, and i imagine the vision to Ashley and Andrew in it was of going too far to the point they'd both possibly get fucked by being carefree and possibly Andrew going full creep with no consideration towards his sister that doesn't really care nor like that stuff (she even says it'd just be useful to use to keep him around but she isn't sure who is infront of her making her wary while Andrew doesn't understand what shes scared of).

The first route split occurs in the chapter 2 vision depending on if you shoot Andrew or not (and thus necessitates that you only shoot the hitman once in the park)
The next split occurs at whether you choose to be Andy or Andrew in the car after the flashback sequence at the start of the episode, as I understand it if you pick Andy you get the _____ In A Box dead end no matter what, but the Andrew choice then takes into account the vision shooting.
If you don't shoot in the vision and pick Andrew you're locked into the Decaying Along cliffhanger path, and if you do you can only get Shots And Such as your definitive ending if you acquire a wedding ring found in the rock pushing puzzle area between the gas station and the campsite but you can also get the Splat!, Prophecy Fulfiller and Happy end! dead ends this way.

The only complaint in these threads I can somewhat agree is that the game could lose a few puzzles, but the Decaying Along lead up to the cliffhanger was such kino that it lets me easily look past it. If we don't get a (reasonably) happy couple ending in Episode 4, that will be a huge disappointment though. I also hope we get several endings again instead of just one good and one bad for the finale.

First off, given the bits and pieces about the story's details, we know that Andrew is simply too far deep in the rabbithole: his girlfriend and all other girls are invisible to him, he literally makes his gf wear her hair in a ponytail to resemble Ashley in order to bang her, and he has absolutely no nor can he ever have any emotional connections with any other girl other than his sister. This means that the only logical route moving forward is them being in a relationship, or at the very least working together to grow as characters until the end, in which, I think they'll both die. Second, Ashley mentions going after the Surgeon and CEO who kept them in confinement as apart of the organ harvesting operation. In this route, Andy is completely against it, but I predict this won't be the case in Burial. Third, Burial in Part 2 is the more fulfilling ending and the hardest to gain. You have to take actions every step of the way that align with you and Ashley as a team, and the end result is more positive cutscenes and an attitude among both characters that they're in it together. Finally, Andrew's state of mind throughout the entire story of this part was terrible. We see the bigger picture based off the events of his life but he's unable to because of his conscience: Ashley has become his second half by a matter of circumstances and they love each other deeply. Decay is literally just him coping and I think the events of Burial are going to be waaaaay more fulfilling.
That's my take at least.

Congrats on being the only person to remember that, and I mean that genuinely.
I'm not too small a man as to refuse admitting when I'm wrong. Certainly after Chapter 2 had just come out, I had said as much. Somewhere during 2024 I lost more and more faith in that. By 2025 I felt that any return was certain to be met with soup. So I still count it as a major win

I wonder about that. The demon mentions that the only thing that affects your soul’s color is your own morality, meaning that you can do any number of fucked up things and be a pure white soul as long as you still believe, delusion or otherwise, that you are a good person. The fact that Andrew and especially Ashley have dark souls means that, on some level, they recognize their own wickedness, which is actually indicative of them not being completely evil, ironically. A truly evil being would never recognize its own evil.
And let’s be honest, Renee failed as a mother in a huge way. She literally gave up on Ashley just because she was a handful at a young age and basically allowed her to become a delinquent.

I find it very unlikely to be the case given that the game goes out of its way to show us how horrid their parents are. There may be some predisposition issues at play, but to say that she was born evil is insane given what we see. Shots and Such basically guarantees that Decay gets a happy (within reason considering their circumstances) couple ending. The fact that they can stay together and tolerate each other in the long term at all without any significant resolution of their deep psychological issue regarding each other means there is definitely a road to happiness for them in the case of such a resolution, and Decaying Along clearly points in the direction where it is allowed to happen. Although it will obviously depend on the player making the right choices to not fuck it up.

I'm also glad we got the murder-suicide bad end out of the way, because that means whatever bad end(s) there are later will be less predictable. That one could be seen coming a mile-away.

I never claimed that she was. I believe she simply shut off her sense of empathy towards everybody else besides Andrew. Her brother being her whole world is her core theme, after all. It makes sense that she'd act like a complete psychopath towards everybody else as a result.
Contrary to that, Andrew is the one who's stuck in a loop justifying his own actions all the time, with Ashley constantly calling him out on it. Eventually we learn that this self-justification only serves to reinforce his worst traits and doesn't make him a better person at all.

From what I've read, you shoot the assassin in Episode 2 once to keep bullets. Then don't shoot Andrew in the Episode 2 dream for Decaying Along (which is the route that continues to Episode 4). Shoot Andrew in that dream for unhappy sisterfucker or sisterfucker who murder-suicides (which one you get depends whether you locate a particular item in Episode 3)

As long as they fail to resolve their issues. That's the subtext. The reason why the sex is awful in Decay is because they're doing it out of frustration, boredom, obligation or anger. It's bad sex full of unresolved feelings that can only be toxic and self-destructive. It's the "wrong" incest path where everything happens too fast without any communication or catharsis, so of course it's awful and unsatisfying. This doesn't mean that the incest is inherently bad, but it needs to be reached in a healthier and cathartic manner.

I wouldn't go that far. I think it was more her trying to tie up Julia's arc quickly and establish that they aren't getting back together. Julia is still a pathetic, nervous wreck and hopelessly neurotic. The fact that she even agreed to meet with Andrew at all, and could only say her true feelings in a letter rather than to his face, is a sign that she's still bitchmade.

It's very realistic and Nemlei clearly has experience with abusive relationships. The way that Ashley pushes Andrew over the edge, then begs for forgiveness and tries to placate him when he beats her is very real. Her response to violence being to panic, then enter into a temporary state of appeasement, is spot on. The way that Andrew behaves from an abuser's POV is also realistic; rather than painting him as a cartoon villain, we see that he is suffering and feels hopeless, and needs the catharsis of violent release even if he feels awful about it afterwards. He cannot stop. When he does finally try to be better, Ashley berates him and you can see his feelings are hurt, and it spirals into another violent fight. It's a shocking amount of empathy for a character that would normally be written in a very ignorant and lazy way.
