Thanks for the tips anon and yeah you're pretty spot on with the assessment. I will always prefer just making a post asking about something even if it's readily available with a google search cause I like just posting about it. Though for the most part I was just curious if it was an issue on my end or if there really is a discrepancy between how good the classes are cause Witch really did steamroll everything.

There's definitely some need for that kind of thing in 1 just due to the immense amount of mechanics layered atop each other making the game nigh impenetrable for a new player, like good fucking luck figuring out the dozen intermingling crafting systems without both youtube and the wiki. It's less mandatory in 2 I've found just because the game is currently simpler and there are fewer options, plus the keyword encyclopedia is a godsend and they should backport it to 1 as soon as possible.
I just find the whole "NEW EPIC 5 GORILLION DPS BROKEN BUILD" shit distasteful, and that's the majority of PoE content on youtube.

You're really not limited to mace, almost none of the nodes near warrior starting area are mace-exclusive. So if crossbows are good you have easy pathing to them, and if they're not, you can potentially go staff or spear and just use generic melee nodes.
Tree might change though.

Oh yeah it's not mandatory to play Mace but if I'm leaguestarting something nobody's played after a big balance overhaul I'm a little antsy about immediately going for an "unusual" build. Spear Ritualist shouldn't require anything too strange to map with by comparison and I'm relatively familiar with that slice of the tree as it is now.

That's ok, I think ritualist is a very good generic choice as well.

On an unrelated note, I've also been eyeing Amazon for no reason other than going Vaal Pact+Azmeri brew with mana flask to recover life.
If recovery has been rebalanced (nerfs to life on kill, grim feast etc) it might be a very comfy to fix recovery with gigaleech and still having life recovery from mana flasks.

This retard Jonathan making trailers showing the Huntress parrying the monster with her shield so they take more damage from the following attack, and yet he expects us to reproduce that when we get to the Atlas, open a Breach, and get gangbanged by 300 monsters popping all around us with a class that has two ascendancies with zero useful defensive nodes.

These clowns aren't even playing their own game, they just smoke some crack, think about something they like, and add to the game without thinking about if their ideas will work or not.

Another example of them not knowing the basics of their own game is how they added that new Fire Spell on hit node to the third Warrior ascendancy. There are barely any fire spell in the game currently but even if you use the feel spell options available to you, that would require you to get 200 intelligence for a level 20 spell gem on top of the attribute requirements of your weapon, which is another 200 strength, so the entire node is completely unusable. And no, using a low level weapon to reduce the strength requirement also makes the node not provide any DPS gain to you, thus making it useless comparing to simply making a pure attack build.

Why are these clowns so out of touch?

Agreed. Was pretty bummed that reap and exsanguinate weren't in on launch after I started a Blood Mage. Pretty much the only somewhat thematic build that isn't pure cancer (bone storm) to play for BM is DD and it can be made even better if you use archmage and manastorm but those two skills do NOT fit a BM thematically at all.

What can we expect from Smith of Kitava? I think he will probably be good but I really am not digging how basic the ascendancy feels. A lot of the node picks seem almost a no brainer. You obviously take the max res node and the node that lets fire resistance increase other res. Then you full scale fire resistance. Its borderline brain dead almost I'd say. Its literally "Fire Res - The Ascendancy" and that to me seems not great in terms of gameplay.

Do you have the others, or at least a link to them?
Seems like it could be strong if you can get non-int minions in high enough quantity. Almost purely because of the stat stacking though because we've all seen how that's turned out.
At first glance I thought Watch How I Do It looked like it could be strong too, but then I looked into totem stats and they're all 100-150 or 150-200 at 20 and you naturally buff the shit out of the gem level (a 26 Ripwire Ballista is 282-423, a 34 Ancestral Warrior totem is 703-1054), quick estimate you'd maybe give it a +150 buff for maces and +100 buff for crossbows which I suppose is alright since it's like 25% more damage but it still feels meh.
Looks pretty useless outside of strength stacking minions though, all you've got left is some spirit reduction, banners, pin, and defenses, and from what I remember from playing them totems were shit because of their attack speed and targeting as well as their damage, fixing one isn't going to fix the others.

Did they mix up blackened heart/dominion over flesh or rupture the soul/necromantic conduit? The 4 node unholy might node is on a different tree than the 2 node one, same with the curse nodes.
I feel like Soulless Form is going to be really good with Necromantic Conduit in minion builds.

They say they did (I suspect they actually did it on purpose to cuck the class and got called out about it)

Rupture the soul and Dominion over flesh are going to be on one branch, and Unholy Might with Blackened heart will be the other branch.

The thing is that Blackened Heart looks fishy, yeah it upscales your extra damage with your manapool, but then Necromantic Conduit penalizes you with a fat degen.

Looks like it's going to be better to just get Eternal Life, Conduit and Rupture/Philactery. Unless somebody figures out a way to stack 30K mana for a busted Unholy Might buff, and then sustain the crazy degen somehow.

If they solve armor, you will be missing armor. The body Armour is one of the highest sources of armor. So for it to be white and modless PLUS the Kitava Smith not having anything to add armor to it means you definitely will miss a good chunk of armor.

Lets you skip blood magic in exchange for giving up a bunch of stats on weapon slots.

You'd need a lot of gear to get enough spell levels to scale up the base mana costs, but stacking the highest cost multiplier supports you can get to current archmage "gained as" chaos damage on top of archmage's bonus damage.

your ehp is massively overinflated in pob by svalinn, what really counts for survivability is max hit (and ability to recover ehp in time)
you need capped chaos res, capped spell suppression, you need more evasion rating, non-meme flasks (roll for at least 2 charges gained when hit + evasion rating/reduced effect of curses/probably some ele ailment stuff + bleed removal mod on a life flask), id roll a chest with essence of horror for crit 10% reduced extra damage from critical strikes per endurance charge, later on you want to gain elemental ailment immunity, so you can drop those flask mods/pantheon/etc (most likely youd do that through ancestral vision with capped spell suppress + filling in the remainder via essence mods on gear or jewel affixes), your phys max hit is 7k and you chaos max hit is 5k - you die to basically any fart that gets through svalinn

He has 1k ES on top of that, Svalinn + evasion is good enough.

His main problems are resists, especially chaos, and phys hits. Not much he can do for phys outside of iron reflexes.

I've got a unique head, amulet, shield, and both rings, so that pretty much only leaves belt, gloves, boots, and chest. I checked on trade earlier and even spending double digit divs could only get me a similarly good belt with about 100 life on it. The boots already have life and spell suppress, and the gloves already have spell suppress and chaos res. The body is the only thing that really needs improvement, but there's still the matter of buying a 6link with ideally +intelligence on it because I need a fuckton of it and don't have the spare passive points to cram more in.
I'm also very inexperienced with the crafting system and don't know enough to be fucking around with expensive essences.

Mageblood fixes your resists (including max) and gives you a ton of suffix space.

Your lack of life is mainly from % inc on tree, not flat on gear. You are sub 100%, so you need to make it up elsewhere.

What I would do is drop the elusive node (svalinn + eva are already overkill on avoidance) and grab a shroud of the lightless and pick up the abyss jewel gear and stack some abyss jewels instead.

To configure pob properly you need to set monster damage properly.

A good early-midgame survivability point to aim for is a non crit normal shaper slam, eater beam, shaper ball, and a 10k chaos hit.

The endgame for survivability is tanking crit versions of each of those on uber. Once you don't get 1 shot by those you can aim for EHP and damage.

Also toggle guard skills off at all times.

Combo-based skill rotations are fundamentally incompatible with a low time-to-kill at endgame
They could literally lower everyone's damage by like 10x, and it still wouldn't be enough to make it worth throwing out more than 1 or 2 skills per pack. That's why everyone kinda rolls their eyes every time they mention using 3 or 4 skills for a single pack in a preview video because it's just fundamentally not how anyone plays the game past the campaign when damage and monster behavior works the way it currently does.

I know they mentioned that they're making big changes to everyone's damage/defense, but those better be DRASTIC, or all it's going to do is lower the amount of skills that are viable for one-shotting the screen. Nobody's going to bother using combos as long as any one skill is enough to kill a pack. And frankly, as long as monster behavior remains untouched, I don't think changing player power alone is going to be enough. Any attempts to "interact" with monster mechanics fail immediately when a dozen mobs lunge at you from offscreen at 200mph.

If they want more interesting rotation-based combat, they need to lower the amount of mobs you need to kill and have longer, more meaningful encounters with smaller groups of enemies in smaller maps that are more individually rewarding with mechanics you can actually react to and play around. There's a reason why the Souls games almost never have you going up against 20 enemies at once because the entire combat engine completely breaks down at that point.

You can't have a game based around blowing up giant packs every second and have a meaningful mechanics-focused combat system that you engage with constantly. It's a design oxymoron, and I can't shake the feeling that they're never going to truly succeed at realizing their vision so long as they keep trying to please both masters.

It's multivariate. Having that much damage on an item slot is a problem. Having a weak, watered down passive tree with a lack of trade offs is a problem. Being able to select your attributes is a problem. A lack of competition for the glove slot is a problem. Having jewel slots be on main path ways for free is a problem. That's why I think a nerf to availability is more likely than a nerf to performance. It's not a 1 slot power fountain.

As it is right now, PoE2 is a complete incoherent inconsistent game play mess. The reason why new PoE2 only people quit when they reach maps is because the game suddenly becomes PoE1.

The problem then is that fighting them is boring, no matter how fun the combos are. Lost Ark is an example of this. Killing mobs in their version of maps was painfully boring, even though using those same combos on boss fights was very fun.

It's not a problem to have good items, it's a problem to have items that are so good that every build wants to use them.
Restricting it to inc. lightning damage would make HowA useless for non-lightning skills.
And they can keep the percentage more reasonable anyway.

Fuck no, POE1's campaign is absolute shit, it's a total unfun chore because it's too easy and too long, and nothing you do or drop matters one bit.
POE2 campaign has exciting gearing right from a1, where you can immediately feel the impact of finding a good weapon or rarity gear on Renly. It also has great music, fun bosses, and currency that drops is actually useful and drops in good quantities. POE1 keeps you starved of basic crafting currency early on so you can randomly end up assfucked with off-color chroming, and even when it all works out, you collect currency that isn't worth shit in the endgame and that you'll get by the dozens per mob. All POE2 currency drops end up being useful later if hoarded and dropping an artfiicer's, exalt or even campaign divine feels good every time.
The only thing I really hate about it is how long it takes to unlock t3 supports when you start fresh. Everything else is nice to engage with for the most part.
