I had to load up the game to verify, but imo it seems fine to have this as a corrent guess vs someone trying to throw loop you or meaty.
It's a metered way of taking your turn back, that costs 3 bars if you want oki.
Maybe some characters can do a meterless thing like Ken dragonlash for oki but that's vulnerable to PP.
I don't think a -3 situation is unreasonable either as punishment for being wrong, nobody complained about drive reversal being too strong in 5

The game already have massive momentum shift from wake up with parries, DPs and Supers being a constant threat on the attacker side, while normal hit confirms and even some counter hit confirms are weak af without meters.
SFV had real offense, and less rewarding wake up options, and more importantly less way for the defender to start an oppressive metered offense from calling out a shimmy with wakeup buttons, so V-Reversal not being punishable on block but still punishable on a read made sense.

If Drive Reversal were safe it'd encourage passive play even more, as KD would become even less rewarding and even more risky for the attacker, especially on drive meter deficit.
It'd both make the game more random and more passive.

They've also shown that they're taking away oki from invincible reversals that do damage, meaning you either do your wakeup drive reversal which is safer and gives oki, or you do your DP and don't get oki, you can't have your cake and eat it.

Also the fact that it would completely solve the issues we currently have with throw loops, crmk DRC jail and fireball drive rush means the "Randomness" of the game is toned way back from those alone being weaker.

It ALSO solves a lot of the problems bottom tier characters like Manon/Marisa/Lily/Sim currently have by giving them a safe way to potentially reverse pressure, it's an outsize advantage to characters without an EXDP.
The wakeup drive reversal addition to begin with was such a pseudo buff because you still die on block, they needed to go further with it

That's the issue, the game is already my meter vs your meter, to quote a resident schizo.
Having no way punish a get out of jail card except on a super hard read that'll get you killed against most wake up options will make the game even more toxic and homogenized than it already is.

I really don't get how you can look at the state of the game and think that the way to go is to give even more wake up options and making it even more of a meter war.

What I'm trying to do is solve the "Big three" issues with the smallest change possible, and that'd be buffing drive reversal.
If you start to revolutionise the whole game that's where you enter development hell, because the game was never designed with it in mind.

They will tell you to just tech as if you didn't know you could tech throws, becuse they believe its something they figured out on their own. They don't understand that capcom neutered the game so much and made sure everything was a random guess with no skill involved.

In older games, if something was strong, you had to get better at other aspects of the game to control the opponent better so you didn't have to deal with it, and at the end of the day patient blocking would beat 99% of kusoge. (someone's going to post an exception from a game they never played and only heard legends of on youtube) you just had to be good at the game to hang a good player, it wasn't about guessing as much.

Now you just guess, anyone can beat anyone else, and this is both touted as a feature of sf6 and denied by its defenders. You can't complain about it because they will think you're complaining because its too hard to beat.

You don't seem to understand how much momentum shift and risk for the attacker there is in the oki game already.
Between supers netting half life, parries that can lead to 30-40% with CA, backdash throw that can go up nearly 3k meterless and regular invul DPs, not mentioning wake up buttons, entire round can be won with the right wake up.
-3 is basically nothing in Dix, entire characters are built around mixing you up between mashing and parrying at -1 to -4 with pushback.

If you want any proof of that, just look at how people play.

They can tweak it, but they're not removing it, and they want your committal actions to have a meter cost, whether that's super or drive
That's why I'm in favour of things like being able to force the use of drive reversal, but it also having a good payoff, because the drive gauge game is a secondary layer on top of the regular SF stuff

It's shit for the game if the drive gauge war is in there, but it's heavily weighted towards one side like it is now

SF5 was actually not that bad. All the problems on launch like too many anti fireball v skills, stubby normals, v reversal, were complaints from good players. Casuals don't give a shit about that, they give a shit about how you can't jump without getting DP'd, or how you can't press anything because of frame traps raping you in the corner. The lack of single player content is something everyone complained about but I'm talking about gameplay here. The number 1 reason most people now hate Jive is because it was just hard to play, it was the last fighting game where you HAD to block patiently when learning the game.

I like the meter war a lot, but the defender is currently not fighting it on the same ground as the attacker.
The game should depend on meter because that's SF6's design principle, but defenders should be able to have a way of reversing brainless options, but not have it be too strong that it does damage or is brainless itself (-3 on block and jumpable)

They want the game to be a meter war, this is another tool that the attacker has in the meter war, forcing your opponent to spend 2 bars and be -3 on block gets them closer to burnout which is a big win condition for all characters.

It would make you have to be more CAREFUL on oki, but I think that's genuinely good for the game.
Teching is your meterless option for beating a throw, but it's high risk.
Drive reversal would be your metered option for beating throw and strike, but it costs a chunk of drive and you're closer to your opponent's win condition.

I'd make it so that a drive reversal in retaliation to a drive reversal on block is a knockdown.
If you don't want to take the +3 you can spend two bars and get your oki again, and the opponent is in a worse situation than before.

This gives more emphasis to the "Do I spend or not" question the game wants you to ask yourself on each interaction, and doesn't feel as bad for the attacker.
