>>519259793Coping would be going against what is evident and authentic, a form of denial rooted in fear. I am doing the exact opposite.
I am analyzing why SOTE feels so wrong and disingenuous in general, but especially to Miquella's character, arriving at the answer that they blatantly ignored established lore to fit a narrative that adheres more to their writing biases as dark fantasy authors and to please a QA/executive board which wouldn't want to incur unnecessary backlash over a game ending; which is a sound deduction.
Again, there are bitter truths that are thematically appropriate and resonant with the established lore of a characters. In the case of Griffith in Berserk, you can see how he didn't open his heart to Guts and admit he was his friend apart from his ambition, making reckless mistakes after which culminated in his downfall and ultimate betrayal. This is a tragedy story done well as you can understand how the character got to that juncture, and how they could have avoided it.
Shadow of the Erdtree's portrayal of Miquella disposes of all his previous ambitions and foremost desire to cure his sister, instead portraying him as a perverted masochist who discards all parts of himself not for a messianic vision of salvation, but to harden his heart to repeat the mistakes of his forebears in the most asinine and roundabout ways possible. It is a comical misinterpretation of Miquella that rivals even the most poorly cobbled together fan fiction before the DLC even released.
It is also perverts the biblical message of bearing one's cross, turning admirable actions like self-sacrifice embodied by the Miquellan Cross's that are seen throughout the Land of Shadow into ignoble and pretentious attempts to throw a pity party.
