I have a fun build i've been taking to 1v1 duels.
Rock heart hard focus on dragon communion. Most people would say the breath incantations suck ass because you can knock people out of it, but i discovered IRONJAR AROMATIC.
The only thing that can consistently knock me out of breath attacks and other communion incants is the meteorite sword and shit like that.
Is there any more way to jack up my poise to maybe tank those too and just burn all i face?

I generally try to land midgame invader around 70-80. 30-40 is stormveil to hogwarts, 80 will get you up to the capital and people going through most other places.
80 should see you up to the Morgott fight.

Oh so only the meteorite blade and the REALLY crazy weaponarts then. I'll just need to cook something to use against them, i'm not too afraid. One rotation of fire and or glintstone breath tends to kill everything in duels. If i hit, it dies. They really did give beath builds SO MUCH in the DLC.

I feel like at level 80 the Great Runes effects go from "Awesome" to "Okay", that's why I'm a bit reluctant.
If you take level 40 as an example, Godrick's Rune + Radagon's Soreseal leaves you at level 100. Considering the fact that levels upgrade your defenses, a level 20 invader is gonna tickle your healthbar.

He's talking about being level 40 and simulating up to level 100 in stats. At actual level 40 a soreseal isn't an issue. They only become a liability when you pass a certain late game threshold when incoming damage is factoring in the % negation over the flat negation.

So what is actually the lore behind the ball bearings in the smithing stones? I assume the ball bearings are what allows the smith to replicate the quality of the stones or some shit, but they're just rocks they shouldn't have ball bearings? It's still pretty bad early game, my guy.
Consider this, you have full armor as a knight and decide to put on a soreseal, now your lightning negation is likely in the -% and even early game someone is going to whip out le funne shock and fuck you. I've been dicking around alot with early damage numbers lately and believe me when i say soreseal is NOT worth it, don't "Simulate" stats because i don't think you can great rune as a blue hunter anyway. If someone is invading you sure, but if you want to take the fight to them you have to get your fundimental build solid before you consider any bells or whistles.

If you go to twitch, half of the first time players are all two-handed builds. Most of which are wielding the bloodhound's fang. And they're all reckless playstyles. Just running into everything, swinging away, and then trying to dodge out with no real plan.
They play like an AI learning how to play a game through sheer trial and error. It's awful to watch.

Not sure what I should do. I'm still on my first playthrough after 3 years. I've beaten Radahn, so I have Nokron open so I can do more of Ranni's quest and I'm in Nokron right now. I can go to the Atlus Plateau and I've gone through some of it already. I need to fight the two Tree Sentinels. I also have some Caelid stuff to do. Like I met Sage Gowry and he told me to do a quest for Millicent, but then I headed more down the path to Sellia and hit the site of grace just past there. Just have so many options. How should I do them? I know I can do them however I want, but is there one I should prioritize more?

Whatever ash is defaulted on the weapon, that's what they'll stick with. Until someone from chat mentions ashes, and then they'll glance at ashes for a minute, before their ADHD kicks in and they exit out the menu, having learned little to nothing, and probably didn't even change their ash.

While 2 handing does result in faster stance breaks, the players are not really aware of this. They likely never gave a single thought to why sometime enemies stagger. They never intentionally try to make enemies or bosses break stance.

Their thoughts on armor only extends as far as "wut duh hek? Why are my rolls so slow?" And then they strip off their chest piece, get fast rolls, and forget about armor for the rest of the game. Well... until they find a silly head piece to wear. They always put on the lesorandum head gear

They might level up vigor a little bit. but they don't take it seriously. They think 20-25 levels in vigor is a lot. Sometimes chat tells them to level it higher, and they're confused, because they thought it was high enough. And then they'll say something about how the games are supposed to be hard, that's what they're known for. As an explanation for why they're getting one-shot.

They're seriously the worst players ever

Is it ever going to be worth upgrading my weapon(s) from Dual Katanas?

I just did a bit of grinding to use the Golden Axe, but it does about the same amount of damage as my +2 Katana (2-H)? I tried using it's spell as well, but it doesn't seem to be a huge buff.

I was reading that as long as I keep upgrading the Katana it's good for the whole game basically?

Kinda wish the arena had 2 modes, like a casual and ranked mode, I honestly don't really enjoy playing people that hard swap, I don't mind if its the same weapon for different ash of war but when people start losing and immediately switch up to something else back away and start changing talismans etc. it just ruins the fight. For me, what I like most is a combination of two main things, the flavor behind being a dort of adaptable fighter whose a mix of nimble and strong is fun, it gives a sort of scrappy fighter who tries new things. It also means that you'll meet the stat requirements for a vast majority of martial weapons, so you can mix up your playstyle when either you get bored or want to try a new strategy against an enemy really easily in a way pure dex or str can't really

Still, if you want damage out of your incantations, the point of being a frenzy build, you have to decide if you will not be holding weapons of worth, and get vig/mind for survivability OR you are sacrificing damage of your incants for a semi-decent weapon with weird as fuck scaling.
Vig/mind is non-negotiable if you want to PVP or assist in PVE in any meaningful capacity.

You need mind to be able to use the flame of frenzy enough time to kill enemies, and if you are 99% using frenzy incantations you are going to be bleeding FP.
Lots of mind means less time between blue chugs.
As someone focusing on the 30-50 level range i have to have SOME lasting in combat to keep using my spells. This also means sacrifices must be made.

It depends. Some people are hackers or pieces of shit who just hide near enemies or spam spells from a ledge. However, if someone is fighting me in closer combat (even with spells) then it can be fun even if I lose.
I almost beat one guy because I actually parried his ass and got him down to like 5% HP but then somehow my next two attacks just went through him as he chugged to full life then proceeded to kill me. I just assume it is the usual terrible netcode.
Then I got invaded by someone who shat out 10,000 lightning bolts so quickly that it actually made me drop frames and my game nearly crash.

What are you running personally? Sometimes it's not just netcode. You may not be vibing with the weapon you are using. I know it may sound nutty, but i find i do better overall with weapons i would not expect than i do meta options simply because they may function in a different way, or be longer than the option you are currently using.
Take clubs for example, most people don't even consider the stone club the battlemages drop, but it's a crackerjack STR heavy club option and has the fastest club swing speed in the game from what i've been reading.

I really hope they keep up with more navigation options, I like the jump button and then I really like Nightreign adding letting you like climb up stuff, I hope they go further in to having fun ways to walk around
Im slightly sad that what people initially thought, each character having unique ways to get around like the grapple hook or bird wings or summoning the Hawk was wrong though, it makes sense since they want you to stick to a group but that would've been so cool

Hey i had a fun idea watching people talk about invaders/gank squads.
Why not do a small event where we have 2 teams, and take turns going through dungeons and areas while the Invading team invades to keep them from making it, L4D style. Basically turn it into sport.

Anons are mostly right but the main problem here is that Elden Ring only allows 4 people (2vs2) and obviously, the moment the host dies it "ends" the fun for the other 3 so you have to do the process all over again of hosting, summoning, duelist signs, etc. The invader side will also have the obvious disadvantage of having friendly fire.
The only way it could work is in Seamless with PvP on or if it was like DS3 with host + 5.

This doesn't work in Elden Ring because it has too many graces in every dungeon and they're all 20 seconds of running away from each other, so it's basically impossible to stop the host from actually progressing.
Also no fogwall runs so you can't even annoy people who are trying and failing to defeat bosses.

In Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 you could get an experience much closer to L4D multiplayer, in 2 it kinda works too, but on all games after that it's pointless.

I'm hitting guys with it to test damage and it 2 shots Soldiers, and does hard damage though armor because it's elemental damage more than physical.
This is what it's rocking at +3 with just 30 and a clutch ring. And i don't know if the clutch ring is factoring into the damage number in the status menu, but if it is it's supplying enough OOMPH to push the fire damage of this thing into servicable strength, and it activates my prosthesis talisman cause it's generally pretty quick to swing.

Update, a 2 handed R2 against a godrick soldier was 101 with the estoc, 273 with the wire torch.

Faster than swinging a sword, desu. Estoc has faster thrusts, but the swings are on par if not faster on the sweeps. It's faster than it looks.

Well the falling off thing does not apply to early game invasions so that's moot.
As for no real ash the breathing fire thing hits like a fucking truck when i get you oily and there is shittons of means to apply oil now.

The really big oil pot that applies a stronger version of oil over a big radius.
So, 3 means. But that's still 30 applications of it over 2 types of pots, and a short term CONSTANT OILING you can combo with.

Yeah i have to worry about jacked up elemental res phantoms, but i genuinely think hosts will melt in very little hits, even through shields.
Something i have noticed about this is if i hit someone blocking and their shield is not specced to block alot of fire it chunks them.
I'll also be fair the dancer flame bell thing is also hitting for like 600+ before oiling so i have a feeling if i oil a host and hit them with it they will just die immediately.
I'm about to go test it vs Margit to see if it will melt an early game boss,

i mean... dogshit movesets absolutely matter if you want to bring up invasions as a point. the meta is entirely defined by what has the best moveset, range, and frame data (covers speed/recovery/hyperarmor startup). damage comes second to that, which is why the torch isn't GOOD despite hitting kinda hard. and if you REALLY need a fire ash, flaming strike is faster, stronger, hits harder, and has WAY more utility.

like yeah, you can do a low level torch build and have some success against new players. that's fine. and maybe you can make it work against worse players with better setups by using the poke or having them not respect your r1 mashing. but the torch just objectively isn't good, you feel. it's a funny gimmick weapon with pretty good ar, but not much else.

The idea here is single hits of fire damage for 100% of a hosts health. The oil pots normal can be made with mushrooms, but the HUGE oilpots require DLC shit, and the Oil tear is as well DLC.
I think the only thing i need to put levels into maybe is the flame incant that buffs fire damage, if that gives any meaningful buff.

Oh yeah, i fully admit it's not a great weapon vs other fire options you can get like literally any piece of fire knight gear. But a fun fact about most low level phantoms? They kinda suck ass and only rely on their gear to carry them. It's a funny gimmick weapon with a decent AR, and i think the decent AR can be pushed into crippling AR that will nuke people who don't respect it. (And why should they respect it, it's a torch.)
I think that alone is going to catch people off guard. I don't expect to win against sweat lords, but i do expect to catch unprepared people off guard.

No I've seen it all. A two-hander mage. This dumb bitch somehow got her hands on the meteorite staff. It's still early game for her, so I suspect that she was led to the staff by chat.

But she's two handing the staff while casting it. And of course she has not chest piece equipped. So she's taking unnecessary, and then going "whoa! I'm weak!". Like, no bitch, you're fucking naked. Put some armor on.

Her main weapons is a lord sworn great sword though. So when she's not two handing her meteor staff, she's two-handing her great sword. And she's using it inefficiently too. Like, she'll sneak up behind enemies, and then do a regular R1 attack. Which makes no fucking sense, because a charged attack would be better. What's the point of sneaking, if you're not going to take advantage of it?

And then she runs out of health flasks. So she selects her physick, and goes "what does this do?", drinks it, and nothing happens. Because the bitch didn't equip any tear to the physick. Having seen that the physick does nothing, does she investigate? Nope. Just saunters off, looking for the next fight.

Anything i would /need/ to CE in would have to be strictly anything that can't be rushed that buffs fire damage. And as far as i know only the charm buffs fire damage straight up to my knowledge.

I'm just thinking what all would be good for min-maxing the torch damage output, and frankly, i likely only need to land a proper set for this that somehow works with fire damage.
Issue is, i don't want to have to spec too heavily into levels to make full use of the fire damage of the torch. +3 weapon will carry you to the 20's in level but if you level a somber weapon at all suddenly you are basically cut out of most invasions/co-ops because somber scaling skews very differently.

By the time DS3 dropped all it had was a few specific spots like the one you mentioned.
But DS2 still had huge levels with very hostile environments even outside of enemies.
Though I'd say that Bloodborne was the turning point where basically nothing outside of enemies really posed any threat for the player anymore.

Been playing Elden Ring Reforged solo and it's been a lot of fun. It's definitely made the game more challenging, which is an experience given I actually co-oped the base game last time I beat it. Whichever person from the mod team decided to put the Godskin Noble on the fucking elevator ride up to the top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia needs to have his balls cut, though. I legitimately can't fucking beat him in that tiny little space.

DS2 has brutal environments that can be easily exploited by an invader.
Tons of areas filled with traps, poison that actually fucking hurts, mazes filled with pitfalls where you can barely see shit, and give an absurd advantage to someone who knows the map layout over someone who doesn't.

DS3 and Bloodborne had phenomenal level design that favored invaders too, though. Luring people to the oil lake in the woods and giving them the flamesprayer + bone marrow ash combo is genuinely hilarious. DS3 has the infamous bridge in the carthus catacombs which combined with something like crucifix of the mad king or even just force lead to hilarity. In general, I'd say DS3 had the best invasion experience of all. Higher player cap, sprawling levels, the cat ring, the obscuring ring, the option to go to gank city if you wanted to play with sweatlords. Ah, good times.

Alright. That is the game. Kino music on the boss fight but I killed him in like 4 or 5 hits.

Dark Souls 1 is like a 9/10 game but only like a 7/10 experience because I overplanned my build and abused shit that I knew was busted just from second hand information of reading /v/ and /vg/. Abusing poise and Darkmoon Blade makes all of the bosses a joke and the most dangerous thing is the platforming and random environmental stuff. The game was excellent at the start when I was first getting my shit together and died a lot, but by the mid game I was too strong. I also feel like some of the end areas just sucked ass, like what was with the whole fire area?

I barely know anything about DSII and I intend to keep it that way, pretty much. I am just gonna wing a character. Right now I am thinking going an actual dex build and using lighter armor to actually dodge and learn the game/bosses instead of lmaopoise.

I just dodged his first few attacks and then I just traded hits with him till he died. I even staggered/pose broke him. I actually think the hardest boss in the game was Artorias, he killed me 3 times when I had my build going. Cappo Demon killed me twice, and I died to the gargoyles like 3 times too. I think I died to the fucking silver knights in Anor Lando on the small walkway like 5 or 6 times. I had to actually strip off my armor for light roll to get through them.

Right i tried to do some recording but making it 720 and at 10 seconds it was STILL too big for this site. Only 4 mb for footage is the most annoying fucking shit.
I am testing the torch and frankly, i went up against a fire resistant enemy and was still hitting 400+ damage on a two handed R2 with oil. But i have ALSO noticed that at 30 Dex, the dancer's bell thing that shoots fire does like 600 by itself, before fire scorp and before being oiled.
I may be onto something here...

Because for some reason it runs FINE, and other times my FPS tanks for no reason and then my game says "Fps error" and boots me offline.

I am actually getting some really good use out of the Ranah oil item and 30 dex on a level 7 samurai.
That fucking perfume bell has insane damage scaling on the DEX, at an S. I really think i can just nuke anything that moves granted i hit with an oil pot, oil largepot, or just pop an oil tear and walk near you.
Can someone tell me how much oil increases the damage of fire? IS it doubled? Can i hit for 1200 damage at level 7?

Normal pots are +50% damage
Oil teardrop is 20% (Lame) I need to test how it works more, if it stays reapplyiing for 30 seconds it's up or if it's one on done on each person.
And the Hefty pot is +65% damage.
Ergo, if you want to max fire damage, you should ONLY use hefty pots, and can ergo use small pots for something better. A shame i don't think any of the pots uh, scale on dex.

Yes, i had a 125 dex version with madness stuff. It worked fairly well against randoms and even ganks. But i was also using rakshasa's. There are probably better ways of capitalizing madness procs, but rakshasa worked really well regardless.

Dryleaf arts with Palm Blast is really good.
It weights almost nothing, has basically no reqs, has ok DPS specially when twohanded, and the L2 has super armor + deals a ton of damage + damage reduction + knocks enemies down.
Also you get to look like a wizard with staff + no visible weapon.

Pretty good if you use the DLC kick ash.
It both builds up rot and deals a ton of % damage if the enemy is poisoned, which is busted against bosses and still pretty good against players.

I just invaded an apparent fight club in an inaccessible no-multiplayer area?
It was in the non-inverted Carian Study Hall, on those stairs on the side of upside down elevator that's above the rafters at the very top of the area.
I saw at least 2 duelists there before they killed me.
There's no way to get there afaik and you can't use multiplayer features in that building, so what happened?
