It’s irrelevant whether you’re good or not, the point of fotm is that you get invited in the first place. There were loads of augs that were gutter trash that were timing 24s in SF.
In post aug vera you won’t get carried, but it’s infinitely better to be mediocre fomo than good non-fomo if you pug (might not apply to healers idk)

mobile, unique playstyle, unironically cool lore for the race. I play with friends that usually default to tanking and melee dps though, so that absolutely has impacted my enjoyment of the spec. If I had to play with 2k io Mage and Hunter players I'd probably feel much differently.

Its because unlike what that one dude said the other day DK is actually babies first melee class, and in particular babies first pvp class.

WoW provides a spectrum of difficulty in class and spec design some are more complex and some are designed for drooling brown subhumans.

DK and DH are designed for drooling brown subhumans. Unironically blood is the most interesting and complex dk class. As much as blood literally cannot die if you know how to play it, how many times have you seen a blood dk just fall over? Thats a 64iq frost/uh dps player trying to tank for the first time.

I *love* ret paladin, but I find frost DK to be dull despite liking it themtically.

He's right though. DH started out being a class DESIGNED for beginners but they've been making it more complex ever since. You can still choose to build like a drooling retard at the cost of dps but when built optimally it now has plenty of buttons, the opener is pretty unforgiving if you are slow and the movement requirement adds an additional layer of difficulty to the class.

xiv has solo fights that are braindead but they're at least cinematic
eso had maelstrom arena which was solo content with 8 bosses that would take you hours if not days to get through (a run was ~20 minutes after you gitgud) but would make you a better player if you succeeded
wow has... well it's fucking garbage. understandable for babby mode 'final 1v1 boss', but the ??? version should be way more creative / fun / demanding, instead of having like 1 or 2 mechanics you care about.

So - Knowing that Warcraft basically one-shot the entirety of the Fantasy vidya landscape to the point older franchises like LotR, DnD, HoMM and Warhammer hard pivoted to be more like Warcraft for that sweet sweet WoW-money, who can actually say what Warcraft _is_ anymore?
Used to be Warcraft with all its pubescent originality of a dm's first homebrew still had something unique that when you saw anything about it, you knew "This is Warcraft". Nowadays, with all of WoW's expansions (more like "episodes") and so much other REFERENCE stuff shoved into it, I struggle to really point to it and go "yeah, *this* is warcraft". Not even in the usual "lol it's all soft boy faggotry now(it is), I want my oily bodybuilder faggotry back!", but in the same vein the new DnD book releases a bunch of "lore" that's so hands-off that you wonder why you bought the book at all because statblocks alone don't justify the price.

Death Knights are based on a fantasy with a coat of "runes" paint applied.
Paladins are based upon a post christianization bastardization of it, wherein strength flows as gift from a god rather than displayed by man as offering and appeasement to the gods.

The Paladin says "Light Help me"
The Death Knight says "I serve Darkness"
The Warrior says "Watch this Odyn, It'll be so awesome you'll invite me to Valhalla to party for eternity"

There were no "Death Knights" in Scandinavian lore. There were a few things that today we would call undead.

They are a fantasy construction with a coat of paint.

Without WoW, DnD wouldn't have hard-pivoted into the Samwise artstyle and noblebrighten all their edgy monster races in 4E.
Without WoW, DnD woulnd't push for Hacienda Latinorcs now in 2024.
Without WoW, Warhammer wouldn't have turned the Old World into Age of Sigmar with PORTALS UPON PORTALS connecting otherwise inaccessible worlds.
Without WoW, LotR wouldn't have dwarves with ballistas that shoot bolts that fan out into anti-arrow-volley shields and other assorted Dwarven engineering that is just plain stupid but good for show.
The most watched fantasy show in the past 10 years (GoT) 1:1 copied the Wrath of the Lich King trailer.
WoW is everywhere. The modern fantasy landscape is suffused with ideas and models that Warcraft jumpstarted.
But WoW, now, has nothing left that makes it unique. It thrived on spinning established tropes on their head, but now the established tropes are all their doing and they can't spin them anymore (unless Metzen literally meant to return to evil orcs vs. good christian humans).
So what does WoW have left? What makes Warcraft "Warcraft" apart from being a couple of pretty pictures and comics like Munchkin?

Thats not to say the other games are better. Its just a product of the time they existed in

WoW came with a box price and an (adjusted for inflation) $25 subscription price p.m, While yes, WoW had some nerds in Europe playing it, the game never got the "cult following" it had in the US because you couldnt pirate it.

The game that had cultural impact in Europe in the 2000s was Counter Strike 1.6; because pretty much everyone could play it for free

Meanwhile Minecraft and especially Fortnight came into a completely different world. One that was more homogenised, with wider exposure via the internet, and a society that was much warmer to vidya to the point where even the parents that a decade prior were harping on vidya, were playing Farmville on FB. And they were free.

Vengeance DH seems to be unanimously the best tank for Mythic right now, not sure about raid but I assume it’s at least fine there. Ele shaman is still pumping hard for ranged dps even after a big accidental nerf. And unholy dk is apparently putting out major numbers as a melee dps.

In my case, it’s because I only have two days a week where I can actually do mythic plus IF I don’t have anything else I have to handle outside of work. I hate to encourage blizzard to be more lazy but they can just make a generic paladin mount for all the other races and a generic set of animal forms and totems for the rest of the druids and shamans. No one uses the default druid anomal forms anyway and they can always add totem glyphs/mogs later

Reflex has nothing to do with frame gen. It helps with frame gen because that inherently increases latency.
Reflex + Boost pegs your GPU at 100% clock speed. It's not necessary in a CPU limited game like WoW.

Yeah I feel like a lot of people don't get the concept of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". That's how you end up with slop like in asian games where more flashier is more better. Even if that's my main I have all the other tanks at max level as well, just so that I have a better understanding of my own class weaknesses and strengths by comparison.

hoo fucking boy you couldn't have chosen a worse role to make that argument, because tank players are by far the worst fotmfags that exist.
just fucking look at prot paladin in s1, on average out of top 2000 runs every week ppal did 1900 and all 5 other tanks did 100 runs combined.
the only way you can compete with fotm if you're literally one of the best non-fotm tanks in the world, and have very nice friends to drag you through high content.

Anduin is an example of a character that was deliberately designed to be young, harmless, and cute suddenly being required to grow into a masculine leader archetype.
It's actually an entire trope/cliche that usually doesn't work and is extremely difficult to pull off. Typically writers will try to make it work by maiming or scarring the character in an aesthetic way to represent their loss of childhood innocence.
Obviously Blizzard decided not to go this route and tried a beard and a haircut, but since they kept his soft features he just looks like a high school student that got a girl pregnant at 16 and has been working a shitty dead-end job for the next 10 years.

OVer the past couple years since Shadowlands, Preach and other content creators that went "behind the scenes" have confirmed that Team 2 always operated under the assumption that the next expac would be the last. Ofc they would, like, mindmap and conceptualize so that when the next expac was greenlit, that they could just start producing, but at any given point they were expecting to get the axe.
This was explained as one of the keyreasons why "bvorrowed power" was such a huge thing for a couple expacs nad why features never translated into "evergreen content".

Doing great. Went from T4 to T11 with like 3 upgrades from shitty S1 gear.
Prot just kinda invalidates everything, I can count the number of times I got nervous on one hand, and deaths on one final delve boss with 1 shot portal lines. My goal of eventually piecing together the Mythic tier tint without raiding feels feasible.
