I presume it's either A: another term for ANYONE from the shadowlands, or B: another term for the Shaman.
A is more likely as the discription in game (the preset) goes as follows: "The Numen are the descendants of denizens from another world. They are long lived but seldom born."
Also to throw it in anyways since it might help.
Marika's Hammer: "Stone hammer made in the lands of the Numen, outside the Lands Between. The tool with which Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring and Radagon attempted to repair it.
The hammer partially broke upon shattering the Ring, becoming splintered with rune fragments."
and the Numen's Rune: "Grace that dwells within the inhabitants of the Lands Between; the lingering residue of gold.
Use to gain 12500 runes.
The Numen are said to have come from outside the Lands Between, and are in fact of the same stock as Queen Marika herself."

The real answer is that the lore writers for SotE didn't give a fuck and made zero effort to connect it with the base game in any coherent manner. Like the Land of Shadows was a part of the Lands Between well into the Golden Order's reign (which is another aspect of how little they gave a fuck about the story), so that part of them "arriving" from beyond the bounds doesn't make sense.

Miquella's narrative is the obvious worst offender of this with how incoherent the timeline is and but Marika's lore is a victim of this too, people just overlook since it's decently written on its own.

Gaius went to war with Radahn and trained marika's children in warfare. That little piece of info alone links the dlc to the base game and even puts a timeline on when that happened with context clues (right after war with giants).
The dlc has tons of links to the main game.

I don't know why there's such a lack of weapons with innate poison in the game when it's such an inoffensive status when compared to bleed.

They're not the same though, they even stack with each other as separate status.
The main draw of a poison weapon that can be infused is the Arcane scaling, that doesn't affect rot at all.

They are all the same conceptually. Poison can't compete in the system the devs created so they essentially downplayed it as a mechanic and rolled it into the lore.
Same thing happened with magic across the board. Stuff that seems like sorcery is faith for lore, stuff that is old sorcery is called hexes even if they are just sorceries to fit in with the lore themes.
Poison is shit because rot exists canonically, so it doesn't take up a lot of space design wise on weapons because it can't compete with rot as a mechanical function.

Every design quirk is sourced in lore themes. To the game's detriment.

Not really.
There are multiple enemies that use poison attacks and even poison spells that the player has no access to.
They could've added a few poison weapons related to the msuhroom people, similar to the swamp weapons from DS3, then gave the regular duelist greataxe and greathammer innate poison for them to be proper counterparts to the rotten ones.

Being affected by Arcane also makes poison extremely easier to apply than rot.

You know those useless consumables they put around the game world that virtually no one cares about.
I care about them, but not as consumables. They are an easy at a glance addition to the screen that tells you if you've been down x lane or over to y cliff edge before.

You could remove 90% of his base game lore and nothing about him changes as a character. Literally every single plot thread he had going on in the base game has absolutely zero relevance in the DLC, and don't even get me started on how fucked the timeline is and how nonsensical his plan really is. I like how the the Eternal Cities and their fall are just a random thing that happened now. In the base game you'd think that discovering them was meant to be a big reveal that contextualizes the world. Throughout the game we see overlapping architecture and some shared magic traditions, but here we see that Marika LITERALLY built her empire on the ruins of the old Eternal Cities. A rejection of everything the prior era was. In every way Marika's Order contrasts theirs.

They're big on silver? Marika loves gold. They are symbolized by the night and the moon? Marika is associated with light and the sun. They use blue-black sorceries? Her champions mainly use white/gold incantations. They have a culture that exalts death rituals? Marika entirely banishes death and bathes in eternal life. They create artificial life in pursuit of a Lord? Marika's Order considers artificial life unclean and a true Lord requires natural grace. They're literally gray-skinned? Marika's family are pale-skinned. They create a weapon to slay the Greater Will? Marika draws power from her synthesis with the Greater Will. They yearn for an age of stars? Marika has her minions shackle the night sky. It goes on, and on, and on.

This is why the Black Knives being Numen and scions of the Eternal Cities is so important. They're Marika's kin. This is where she came from.

In the DLC this is all completely forgotten. Nokstella, Nokron, the Nox, and the Lord of Night are all mentioned zero times. Instead Marika's origin is entirely linked to his new little village in a never before mentioned island. Now the Eternal Cities fundamentally have no relation to Marika's origin, her empire, or why and how these things became that way. It's not quite as blatant as the retcons in Miquella's story but it's really no less egregious. The only reason it's not complained about as much is that Promised Fleshlight Radahn is just obviously and self-evidently retarded in a way that the Shaman Village isn't.

I mostly agree with you on all this. In an attempt to justify the Marika and the Eternal Cities stuffs, I came up with my own headcanon. The Numen came to the Lands Between a long long time ago. And overtime they splitted into several groups, settle in different parts of the Lands Between, some group established the Eternal Cities, while one of them settled in what now known as the Shaman Village. Basically Marika, the Nox, the Black Knives still came from the same stock but different civilization, just a case of people from the same race migrating to different parts of the world and building up different cultures. AFAIK, Marika was said to be of the Numen race who came from outside the Lands Betweens, but nowhere did it state that she herself came from the other land, same with her Hammer, it could have been something created in the Numen land, brought with them to the Lands Between, then passed down through the generations to Marika's possession.
The Miquella part of the lore was fucked up though, I couldn't came up with anything to rationalize it.

I'm on my first playthrough and I don't really know where to go at this point. I've gone up to Altus, cleared that place then went to Volcano manor and did some quests but haven't finished (got lost in the lava a few times and found the girl that first sent me to Volcano manor) and didn't kill any bosses since they're now sending me to the capital and some place beyond it to invade more people.
I went to the capital and wandered around a bit. Cleared the ramparts and killed some Godrick boss which rewarded me with a talisman pouch. Tried going to the undiscovered place for the but the door is sealed by Morgot or some shit. Found some sewers and I'm currently getting beaten up by those big guys with horns everywhere.
I cleared most of the areas until taking the elevator (Limgrave, Raya Lucaria, killed the Radahn on his tiny horse and cleared all of Caelid, finished Ranni's quest and cleared the underground cities but didn't take the coffin down).
Where do I find this Morgot guy? Do I access the DLC after finishing the main story or before? Does choosing an ending automatically start NG+ or can I choose when to do that?
Where am I supposed to go if I don't want to skip stuff (that Seluvis dude just died after I cleared one of the underground cities for example)? I know I can go wherever since it's open world but clearing all of Caelid before going up to Altus made me find +6 upgrade stones when I needed +4 and +5. I also got owned by the godskin appostle in the divine tower a bunch of times before killing him and when I met one again in the altus windmill village I slapped his shit using a few of heavy attacks and he wasn't dealing any damage.

Look up casting mechanics, you'd find out casting speed isn't as useful as you'd think.
In case you're splitting DEX/INT, you'd naturally reach max casting speed with just the talisman or the staff, no need to stack them.

I took the ladder down and fought stone gargoyles on pipes then ended up opening a gate that leads back to the sewer bonfire. I saw a hole in the floor further away from the ladder I initially took so I plan on going that way.

I'm trying the game again (after getting bored with Raya Lucaria shortly after it came out) since I had no idea where the fuck I was going after killing the boss

I'll end up doing sword and board for guardcounters for the most part. Just debating if I should make a longsword bloody or just go with heavy and buff it with items

You can start with an uchigatana or find one near the start of the game in one of the catacombs in Limgrave and test it out. It's pretty useful on some enemies like giants and dragons. Others die before it procs or are resistant/immune.
Not having an idea where to go is a problem I also have. After the Academy you can either go to South Caelid (if you see dogs and ravens it's ok, if you see dragons gtfo) or find a way up to Altus. Did you explore the Weeping peninsula to the South of Limgrave in your first playthrough?

How hard is early game as a caster?
I'm tempted to play one but the fact you're really limited in FP and flasks make it seem like outside of bosses and smaller areas like caves, you're kinda fucked in exploration if you're not sure when the next spot to rest is

Honestly, pick up gravity staff and rock yeet early, it'll carry you to 20 mind. You'll stick to rock yeet and glintstone pebble (the literal most efficient damage/fp spell in the game) for like 80% of the game, and you can swap off your staff for the one in the calid city at about mind:30

I've never ran out of flask juice even during early game. Compare to DS1, this game is incredibly generous with the amount of resting spot and their placements. Clearing a group of enemies gave some flask charge back, you don't have to exclusively use spell on every enemy, and you don't have to fight everything either

Not quite. The base game favored pumping your main stat as close to softcap as possible with no real reason to level into a hybrid level range. In the base game you'd be a retard to split your 80 stat into 2 40 stats, in the dlc you can easily do 2 stats into 50-60 and it feels like a build.
The large crux of this issue was weapon scaling tended to favor 1 stat, and spell casting always favored 1 stat exclusively. The change up happened when the dlc dropped and 80% of the weapons were dual stat or more.

The only "valid" hybrid build in the base game was sword of night and flame.

Do incantations have anything that compares to the early game glintstone spells?
Like the closest I can think of is lightning bolt and flame sling but they're either very expensive (lightning spear) or slow (flame sling)
And then even cometshard which is close to lighting spear can be chain cast for like 3-4 times in the space of two lighting spears

I get incantations was the 'buff' magic but fuck me it seems like for the first 20 or so hours you get fuck all to do damage with compared to sorcery
That's not even mentioning the fuckery of glintstone arc against packs of mobs

No dumbass, half of his projects fail BECAUSE OF HIM. Take the Haligtree for example. While it's debatable whether the line about it failing to grow into an Erdtree is before or after everything went down, we do know that his removal of the tree and Malenia's rot are what led to its destruction, both of which he could've prevented if he wasn't retarded.

His plan isn't even treated as a last ditch resort which COULD have worked, instead the writers thought it would be genius to treat his plan for godhood as his century long perfect keikaku that stems back to his childhood. This also doesn't excuse how his lore just isn't relevant within his own DLC, even if his projects failed it is deeply unsatisfying to see the game pretend they didn't happen.

Anyone who decides to stay on /erg/ after the DLC is willingly staying on a sunking ship, so the odds of them being mentally ill increases tenfold, which is what most of the newfags that came in after or a bit before the DLC end up being.

This is also why the majority of generals on this board are centered around multiplayer games, games with endless mods, games apart of long running franchises with sequels in the works, live service games/gachashit and even entire genres of games, or some combination of the above. And even THEN they still sometimes fail (see: soulslike general).
It’s frankly impressive this place has managed to stick around this long when the DLC took over two entire years to release and ended up disappointing, but this place is starting to reach the end of its life cycle no question. It doesn’t help that there’s a rival general of 5-8 people actively seeking to shit this place up of that From’s new project is probably around the corner but it was fun while it lasted.

This explains, among other things, why everyone in the Haligtree has no idea where he is, why his follower ghost is complaining about Mohg stealing him and demanding Mohg bring him back, and why the needle swap reveals that Malenia is carrying an unfinished needle on her (because Mike was abducted before he could finish his spare).

I got this vibe even in the base game with his failures. The god game is a chess game and your strategy evolves as the game evolves. Miquella did the same.

For some reason this never gets mentioned but the latter in particular completely sinks basically the entire fandom's collective headcanon about his goals. Leda and co weren't charmed to follow Miquella, they followed Miquella, became charmed afterwards (usually after trying to kill someone), and then Miquella left them behind to do his emo cutting session. He doesn't want them to follow him. He gives them zero direction or any commands. The entire first act of the DLC is the gang trying to find clues on his whereabouts specifically because he never gave them orders. He fully intends to take all the burden of the journey on himself (which is the entire thematic point and why he's symbolized by fucking crosses), and when he gets to that point, he turns off the charm.

it is really varied and theres some fun in experimenting with the various incant schools.
It can be easy as fuck too with hp regen, defense buffs, and % based damage spells.

Liurnia is a terrible followup to Limgrave. All the same map structures and roaming bosses, almost entirely the same enemy roster in the open world and side dungeons, fewer new NPCs, linear legacy dungeon, content is stretched out over a larger surface area, it's the definition of a filler zone.

I wrote this yesterdat, my game is bugged. Perhaps because I did something out of the proper order.
After beating Raya Lucaria, I ended up exploring Caelid because I thought it would be easier than Altus (first playthrough).
I ended up in the celebration with warriors to beat Rahdan, which included the jar man, I talked to Jerren, saw the cutscene explaining Rahdan had become a cannibal, and after that I couldn't do anything, the controller would let me move the character around, go to the menus. but it wouldn't let me use any of the attack inputs, if I moved to the fog area, nothing happened, I couldn't get in.

So, I ended up teleporting somewhere else, and after doing that, the map actualized to remove Rahdan's castle and its bonfire from the places I have visited that I can teleport to.
Now I have beaten the Caelid erdtree and the cave just behind it. Not sure what to do now.

I wasn't a huge fan of convergence buy ot does mix it up the most

a lot of dlc incantations are mid as hell but heal from afar is insanely good

Depends on how much you want ot spend on STR/DEX.
Cipher Pata and Coded sword have no reqs other than FTH so you can focus on just Faith.
Sacred or Flame Art Dryleaf Arts with Palm Blast also works well.
If you want to put a few more levels, a Halberd, Queelign's Greatsword or Great Katana are all good options.
And if you want one of the bigger weapon classes, the Fire Knight's Greatsword was basically made to be used with FTH.

Personally I like to use a Flame Art Milady with Flame Skewer or Sacred Blade.

This is my first dark souls game, it's really not that bad? Except for any enemy with a shield, I still don't understand the stagger mechanic.

I explored the map a little, and grinded to 40 vigor in the top right of the map where enemies give 1K each.

In order to get a proper parry I'd have to use an Ash of War of some kind right? I haven't played around with those too much.

Is loot just like super rare in this game? In any other game you're swimming in new weapons to try, but I barely have any, not that I'll probably use anything else.

I'm honestly not sure if I even like the combat, it's just a lot of hitting and running, chipping the enemy down, since you're locked into your animations unlike other games.

Yeah, powerstancing bleed weapons is OP since launch

Nice, you're fine on the HP department until you reach late game.

You can use a shield with the "Parry" skill on it just fine, but "Golden Parry" and "Carian Retaliation" have more parry frames

Some of them are, you won't be able to get more than 1 of the same weapon unless someone drops it for you or you start a NG+ journey

Be warned that the combat is what you're experiencing right now, it's not gonna change. You learn the boss' patterns, dodge, hit them once or twice and repeat.
