yeah I take them regularly, the use case is bombing bases/convoys when you're in an AMRAAM BR without any AMRAAMs and get vaporized if you fly above multipath height
toss bombing is an alternative for some aircraft, but it requires being able to carry enough bombs of the same type (since you can't drop different types in one CCRP release even if they are ballistically identical, thanks gaijin) and that's not always available
another use case is for planes like A-4s that don't have CCIP, they let you hit targets very accurately from low alt without having to pop up and expose yourself to radar missiles

frameless bubble canopies are hard actually, it was a huge pain when they were developing the F-16
aisde from manufacturing asspain it also limits speed you can't use a more heat resistant material on the front (F-16 is speed limited at low alt by the need to keep the canopy from melting), and requires thicker material all around (heavier + more distortion etc) to give it enough strengthto survive bird strikes (with a multipiece canopy you can just put something strong and heat resistant on the front and then leave the rest thinner for better visibility and weight)

how to fix your shit
1. open up the sight blk
2. open up the relevant vehicle blk (you can just grab them here https://github.com/gszabi99/War-Thunder-Datamine if you don't want to deal with the mess of extracting shit yourself, go to aces.vromfs.bin_u\gamedata\unints\tankmodels\[vehicle_id].blkx, where the vehicle id will be the same thing the folder containing your sight is named (assuming it's not a multi-vehicle sight)
3. go down to the commonWeapons section, find the weapon corresponding to the missing sight marks (usually the main gun but could be whatever in principle), and find the blk path that references
4. open the weapon blk in gamedata/weapons/groundmodels_weapons/[something].blkx
5. look at your sight blk and find the section that isn't displaying, and check the bulletType value on that, then look at the bulletType values in the weapon blk, and change the sight to reference one that actually exists in the weapon blk

for example this frog sherman sight is expecting a bulletType of apc_solid_medium_caliber_tank, but at some point the gun was changed to use an APCBC instead and broke the sight
to fix it in this case, we can just ctrl f apc_solid_medium_caliber_tank in the sight blk and replace with the new apcbc_tank bulletType and now everything works again

Just about but it's worth noting that the drag wasn't deemed enough of a concern because grid fins only produce more (but more by a LOT) drag at transonic speeds while at sub- and supersonic speeds, it's equal or less to that of normal fins. They went back to normal fins for the R-77M because the earlier R-77's grid fins weren't designed to fold and so couldn't fit into internal bays.

If you use manual radar queuing instead of cycling target selection, you can go to the exact target you want and don't want to fear overshooting it. Crucially, TWS "sticks" to targets in a softlock that makes a full lock a guaranteed matter of pressing a single button whereas SRC doesn't stick to anything and has you manually follow the target, potentially missing it altogether and costing you crucial seconds. Also TWS tells you the velocity vector of every target, unlike SRC, giving you much more situational awareness. Lastly, NCTR works in TWS but not in SRC.

It may not have had the time to scan that particular area. Switching radar mods instantly clears all contacts so if it happened shortly after switching to TWS, that may have been a factor.

The ONLY downside to TWS is that in particularly chaotic WVR scenarios and/or when you want to quickly fire your IR missiles at several enemies in quick succession, it can softlock the "wrong" target and fuck with your HMD/boresight missile targeting since TWS softlocks override that. When that happens, I just turn off the radar and turn it back on once I fire the missiles at the enemies I actually intend to target.

Since the patch? Only the AB aim change, you just click where you want to shoot and the game figures all the rest out for you. Doesn't work vs someones whos actively maneuvering, only people doing dumb shit like sitting still or going in a straight line. Just keep turning and adjusting your speed up and down a notch and stay out of 10km and literally nothing will hit you so long as you ship is reasonably fast.

NAB players are weirdly pissed about their bing bing wahoo mode getting a more arcade-like aiming system
so far the biggest change is the lowering of a whole bunch of bottom tier dreadnoughts so you're not slugging it out against the +1940 battlecruisers all the time
not that you're likely to outscore the rapid fire CLs or anything but not facing 2-3rpm bunkers 9/10 matches is a nice change of pace
