I'll be honest, I was a little dismissive at first, but you actually managed to recreate the entire kyubu game from scratch in a fraction of the time it's taking the real dev to make the game, which is impressive.

But, now you have to polish it and make it look equally as visually appealing and professional. How quickly can you do that?

of course. I have no idea how to use three.js i've never even made a 3d game before unless you count 10 minutes in one episode of a unity tutorial 8 years ago

my game is going to be different than kyubu. it's going to be turn based not real time (threejs just cant roll holding down an arrow key the way kyubu can on unity. browser limitation) and you have a limited number of turns to kill ALL the palestinian children and make it to the security checkpoint. you will need to manage at least two resources (points with the government for killing palestinians efficiently, propoganda relations with the world for not leaving the security checkpoint with too bloody of a cube)

yeah I was going to say that cube games are the simplest 3d games, and claude definitely knows how to make them in his training data but "claude is impressive" summed that up more succinctly

you just forgot to mention the more important thing: it’s a 3d turn-based game. it totally subverts players' expectations. people who think 3d graphics are super important generally aren't the same nerds who will play any game, no matter how ugly, if it’s turn-based. so the developer spends 7 years working on a stunning 3d game for an audience that doesn’t give a damn about graphics. meanwhile, they disappoint the crowd that loves beautiful graphics but hates turn-based games. the failure makes total sense

Starting to think that my jrpg hentai story should be more like the MC is a farm boy is a isolated island, then he's attacked by a gilr of his own age, then she's like his call to adventure, she basically say he has to be killed and that she has comed to kill him.

She eventually uses all her magic in the introductory fight.
So she gets very weak, and she is forced to request the MC to use his dick to refill her mana by cumming in her womb.

Then each arc is about being attacked by 11 other magical girls, and then each one is defeated and she's forced to take his dick and let him cum in their wombs.

Eventually you learn that each one is born at the same time the MC was born, but they were crafted using a magical ritual, to be half divine warriors to fight the MC.

Each one was born at a diferent month, and that is represented by their hair and eye color

In the end they all have to accept he's stronger.
So they have to train to become stronger killing something like shadow images of the MC

Eventually there would be a joke where they have to let him cum in their cunts because that's how they refill their mana

In the end they have to fight the MC, at once, but the plot twist is that for them to become stronger they would have to let him cum in them, but doing that made their souls to fuse with him

So the story ends by a harem ending, and him being unable to evolve into the demon king, because his soul now is not evil

I regret even asking.
Here's what I have decided. The game happens in hell, the player is a demon in charge of torturing the damned and doing other hell stuff.
His current job is to build a huge ass wall in hell and he uses the damned as building blocks. So the demon pushes around these screaming cubes and has to slot them into the right gap. The cubes are compressed damned who are constantly screaming from agony. The face of the cube which has their mouth is the one that is emitting the scream and can be muffled by landing that face on the ground.

The boss now changes his hitbox after losing the head and can raise his shield now, so that it's less about chip damage from beyond melee range.
The fire rate has been doubled because supposedly it should look more fun that way.
I noticed that I should zoom out the camera a bit to make it easier to follow combat with multiple enemies, with additional benefit of less cursor movement, but adjusting the levels is going to be a pain in the ass even though I already have tools for that exact use case.

the 2:1 tiles will have nothing to do with path calculation. the tiles is just like carpet that covers the grid, it doesn't affect how you actually plan routes across the space. A* is looking at the grid representation of your world. I have not used AstarGrid2D but this looks like you may need to tweak the heuristics used in path calculation. That is probably giving weird paths. What is the cost for traversing diagonally?

If you're checking the distance between tiles instead of making it so every time is 1 unit worth of distance then it's safe to say that's the problem.

Chatgpt gave me 3 Diagonal modes that don't exist in documentation. From what I can tell AstarGrid2D doesn't have a way to change costs for diagonal because of the built in diagonal_mode setting. I know that's why I've been so confused. I've never had a problem with AstarGrid2D before until I've tired it with this isometric grid. 4 different projects with a normal flat gird with no issues. At this point I wonder if the godot 4.4 implementation is broken or something.

Tried my first level design, it's a sewer level. Top is first prototype which took roughly 30 mins and bottom is...4 hours to revise. The level has two bosses and 1 shortcut to bonfire.

i do want to say however that i didnt use a tilemap for my implementation, and if they didnt change it in 3.x, there's a chance the isometric tilemap coordinates do not match with how astargrid2d maps isometric tiles, try checking to see if that's the case.

for the tilemap coordinates, at least from what i remember from godot 3.x, it doesnt really rotate and skew the coordinates like how astargrid2d, it just offsets each odd row, making it effectively a rectangular grid. it might also be why you keep on getting strange diagonals.

I can't connect to version control. I'm using unity hub 3.11.1 and unity 6 (6000.0.26f1) <Metal>.

I got an error <something went wrong, please try again> when I tried to add version control to my project from the unity hub.

When I tried to sign up to use version control from the editor, I got another error <Unable to exchange token: No such user '[email protected]'

When I checked for updates in the editor, I got "Connection to the update server failed". 

I have a keychain set up, so when I open unity hub, I get prompted to give it access to information and the key in the keychain and then logs me in. I'm the owner and the only member of my organization.

I rarely samefag but I really need help on what to do. Last night I started actually trying to make an actual room using prefabs rather than blocks and it felt great. My BPD made me believe that I could be the next Miyazaki but solo. I fantasized about making this sewer level and how it would play out and it turned out like shit.
Making a whole ass game would be a massive undertaking and even with a team Twisted Tower took 3 years to make. I love and hate this shit, I love being able to turn set pieces in my head into reality but I hate hate hate the tedious process of placing everything, aligning them, making walls. You get the picture.

Can someone suggest a game idea that's scaled down from Third person shooter soulslike to something smaller? I want to keep getting better at level design but I also don't want to wait 6 years to see my game made, I don't know if I could live that long.

As others have said, I think it's about forgetting about making something commercial and just focusing on honing your skills with a project that isn't outside your capabilities. I personally think you're right it's harder to sell small games, because they are less remarkable. I don't think the world wants small low production value games. I think most players are just like devs in that they're far more excited about something big and remarkable.

I never followed the "make something fast and small" advice. I always thought that advice was for other people but not me. I quit my job full stop and toiled away for five years, spending all my life's savings and then some. I even dragged my wife into it full-time. Toward the end we ran out of money and moved in with family. It's almost a laughably huge commitment in the context of all the "start small!" advice. But in 2019 we finished the game, and it has grossed 3m. Now we're a self-published fully funded studio working on our next game. All that being said, I still think the "start small" advice is good for most people. I obviously have no regrets about not following it myself though!

But yes, if you feel in your bones you can finish something huge or die trying, and you can do it to a quality standard better than what is selling on steam, and it's in a genre that is viable, I think making something big is the right path. And it's what most of the gaming public actually wants: something big and exciting and remarkable.

Thank you, It's no where near a playable state right now, it only has 3 enemies and a dozen boring items with no synergies between them. I'm planning on adding more of everything, including weapons before putting out any kind of demo. Like I said earlier, don't be shy if you have any "it would be cool if" thoughts, this game is basically a culmination of these kind of thoughts.

I'm thinking of adding a Bloodborne kind of mechanic where if you get hit you can get a portion of your HP back by dealing melee damage to the enemies.

Shouldn't be that hard, in our old unity build I think we used A* and the enemies moved around just fine in iso. We don't use a grid now though (currently) and I'm not sure what we're using for pathing now but it's effecient and they surround you and recheck and stuff really well.

I want to make an RPG Maker game about a team of five mall foodcourt superheroines who have to stop a Disney-esque gigacorporation from copyrighting all of reality. The Milt Rackley Animation Company is making fictional characters come to life, including people's OCs and the OCs of the main heroines who are a variety of girls that have some nerdy interests. It is largely a satire of how millennials and gen Z consume fiction and what they typically produce as a result of their hyperconsumption. Makes fun of a bunch of different shit while also making fun of the "donut steel" effect you typically see in popular Millennial/Gen Z works.

The game is a SNES-style RPG and one idea I had is that it would swap between various art styles as you went along and different areas would have different perspectives or changes if you revisited them with a different artstyle. So I'd hang a lampshade on the "quirky Earthbound RPG" since that would be one of the selectable art styles. Dunno if I'd go with that concept for the majority of the game but it's one that I had. I want it to be something akin to Mario RPG where there is exploration and puzzles in the overworld, but I mainly just want it to be a comedy driven RPG with some personal pointed satire and fun Mario RPG combat.

This is the leader of the team, her name is Anna and she's a Canadian ice cream parlor waitress. The story begins with her getting sued by the Milt Rackley Animation Company for infringing their copyright with a character she created to be the mascot for her ice cream parlor, which they claim is theirs even though she was the one who made it.

The problem is I'm one of those devs who has more ideas than he's able to put out and I envisioned this as a story taking place in a universe I establish in other games, but a devanon friend is saying I should just learn RPG maker and do something with it since my pixel art is pretty good already. Thanks for the code, looking at yours the only major difference was the DIAGONAL_MODE_AT_LEAST_ONE_WALKABLE and that seem to have at least helped a little bit. Some SA people did make a podcast episode about it. Of course I want to make it but I'm unable to completely one-man army it because I'm terrible at coding, I've been trying to learn unreal blueprints but even that's taking a while.

I have been making progress on 3D modeling and studying animation as well. I'm much more suited to the art side of things, I wish I could just focus on that while a codemonkey does the coding. But the reason I haven't made much progress on it is because I have no team.
I don't have much money to spare for hiring freelancers, I'm barely scraping by as it is.

That might also work. The hits need to be precise enough to simulate the trajectory of the projectile through the vehicle.
For some context, the vehicles I'm talking about are spaceships varying in size from 100 meters long to ~700 meters long. I'm probably going to need fairly large textures for the larger ships.

idk anything about archtower, but Mixels have long been part of 3d games, I don't think a non-uniform texel density is much of a problem there, unlike 2d games where it is actually feasible to have be perfectly consistent
Like, just introducing a 3d transform and perspective makes it so that texels will be varying sizes on the screen

Take the argument to the logical conclusion, why are you making games at all? They're all technically a waste of time, all entertainment is. All you're doing is providing a simulacrum of achievement. A virtual environment for the fulfilment of instinctual drives or fantasies in a world where those drives can no longer be satisfied.

Instead of making games you could be making something useful that solves problems for the world at large, but you're not, in fact you're probably not even making a game. Appealing to this ham-fisted moralistic argument about games being bad because they sell well and can retain the attention of players all while you produce a flop that nobody cares about is pure cope and sour grapes.

This is the same type of argumentation I see from incels and social retards who don't want to learn social skills, because they see the act of learning how to talk to people and hold a conversation as inherently manipulative and scummy because they can't even conceive that they might have some value to offer the world. So instead of even trying to better themselves they stay as shut-in friendless sexless losers stewing in their own resentment. But now it's videogames, if you can't make a successful game, shit on successful games for being in some way bad, while continuing to be a failure.

Your opinion doesn't matter, I'm not going to make my game shitter than it has to be just to win the hypothetical approval of some nodevs on 4chan. Cope seethe and dilate.

How do I cope with anime now that I also have started to love american cartoons?

Like I love anime girls, but man, some stuff from cartoon girls is just too perfect.

The way the best cartoon guys drawn the hips area and the belly and the chest area, is just way better than how japanese do it.
Sometimes cartoon girls have a superior ass game to eastern girls.

The thight area also seem to be so good under some cartoon guys, that I can't decide but feel a desire to imitate that.

The heads not so much, but disney/pixar literally can capture a better 3D skull shape than japanese artists.
Disney heads simply are superior in fundamentals to eastern styles.

Japanese guys still have the upper game in hair, shading, the arms, calves, feet, mouth, and overall clothing shit.

But man, There's some stuff from cartoon guys now that I can't trully ignore.
It's so diferent to the japanese style, but man, I can't feel I am betraying my roots.

But man, I just can't.
Some cartoon guys trully awaken desires to learn from them.

BTW I am talking from a draftment point of view.

Good for them but I recommend making dev friends on social media instead of the schizos in nu-/agdg/, there might be some people making games in similar genres as yours participating.

I created a flying animation for when she is in the air and it triggers in the right place. The skirt blows up a little too high which wasn't intentional. The cut down the middle is because the mirror modifier is still on.
