I don't think it's the worst map in the game but it's bottom tier regardless and no amount of forgery fixes it. I remember playing in custim lobbies back in the late 2010s that would try to alleviate the upstairs/downstairs gap problem and we quickly learned the map still played like shit.
But yeah I'll take it over isolation I guess.

The pit in the middle was meant to be safely crossable at one point.
The real actual issue on that map is how useless the base areas are (literally nothing spawns there besides Mongooses) and the Sniper Rifle.
Bad spawns are an Halo 3 issue across the entire game.

I thank God every day that loot boxes are dead and buried in this series.
Infinite's storefront is bad, but at least you know what you're getting and I can't abuse it to spawn into a map with a gun that instant kills the entire opposing team.

Also, Victory animations were funny and the fanbase had them killed in favor of no-fun-allowed syndrome

I'm in this picture.
5 is the worst game in the series and it isn't particularly close imo, especially post-TU.
You could make a case for 4, but I value campaign too much to overlook the monstrosity that is Guardians.
Also, there are only 2 or 3 /hg/ anons in all of that era that actually finished the req grind, so the idea that getting them all was a normal doable thing in opposition to the plethora of YouTube video evidence of people just mass-buying them is one hell of a forced narrative. But whatever.

There will probably be a book that ends the current ongoing story arc, maybe even a trilogy of books, but yeah all signs point to the almost entirely new devs cutting their losses and starting over, but this time with an actual hard reboot.
Part of the problem with 5 and Infinite is that they didn't have the guts to say 4 and then 5 were not canon so they had these overlapping, complicated, and often conflicting plot threads all over the place, to the point where Infinite's entire campaign is basically trying to explain away the end of Halo 5 just to set up for DLC that will never happen now.

Have no idea why you're bringing up Halo 2 and Halo 3 when the last spartan thing was from Halo's manual.
Halo 2's human manual says "member of the SPARTAN-II project" and Halo 2's covenant manual uses spartans as plural. So Halo 2 is at least ambiguous.
With Halo 3's manual they say "last fighting member of the legendary SPARTAN II military program" which leans back more towards last spartan but can also be interpreted more ambiguously.

Auto downloading mods for customs browser would be huge for multiplayer modding. Would spur on a new wave of people to make things. The gen 8/9 Halo community is fucking soulless.
Even Halo 4 at least had a very short grind and a bevy of churaazy modes to pass the time like regicide, extraction, and Ricochet.
Back in the day we didn't play firefight as a part of some grind. We played it to see if we could reach endure or how long we could last.

Unless you're playing with friends, the only reason to play multiplayer games alone is to improve your skills etc and get better at the game. You should be playing to win, and to improve, not for some cosmetic reward grind.

Halo is a shooter where you should be working towards winning the match by outsourcing your opponents. There are many ways to do this, yes, but that is the point of the game.

For the UNSC maybe but the covenant shit in this game looks weird. The brutes look awful and the banshees are changed for no reason. The Phantoms lost the cool front glowing generators.
Shit like the plasma repeater is just a plasma rifle but long. The focus rifle design is really generic compared to the beam rifle. The hunters are smaller and has this weird grey/green-ish metallic colors that doesn’t really contrasts well with the orange weak spots the same way the blue did in the older games. The Elites and the Grunts are the only things i would say are direct upgrades from 3. The skirmishers are also pretty neat design wise, wouldn’t have minded them replacing the ugly skinny jackal design from 3 outright.

The relationship between fans and producers, in any industry, is that the producers put out products and the fans consume the product, generally more willingly than the public at large. It's on the producing end's responsibility to put out products that the fans more willingly engage in and consume, and it's on the fanbases end to hold the producers accountable with their purchase power.
At NO POINT should the relationship be anymore intimate or complicated than that. Fans should not be dictating design or decision making aspects of the production. Sports teams should not be listening to fans for who to draft anymore than "Halo Studios" should be listening to the 7th column for how to progress the story arcs. Likewise, fans should not lower their standards just to support the ip. Nintendo, Sonic, and MCU fanbases are a good example of this, where they will get hyped simply at a new logo being shown on a screen or trailer, and rush to pre-order a new product regardless of the previous track record, and then go on to defend said product and gatekeep out any criticism.

tl;dr they're need to stop listening to the fans

Maybe someone will disagree with me but I don't think 343i has a Track record of actually giving YouTubers any real weight in the decision making process.
If anything, what they do with YouTubers is to drip drop them teeny tiny gestures of acknowledgement in exchange for positive coverage. (see: The "Cartographers" group and how they "reacted" to Infinite footage on stream despite having already seen it).

People that generally revolve their lives around one thing tend to be mentally ill and view the product differently than a regular person. Overwatch for example catered heavily to the e-sports crowd to the point they where the only ones playing it and since no new “fresh” players where joining in, due to it being so daunting similar to something like LoL/Dota it slowly died. Halo should cater to a variety of people, not just what fagtubers say.

I haven't finished that book but the parts I read actually contradict what you're saying.
The Banished were the fastest growing faction post the fall of the Covenant, but they weren't even the only ones. That alone puts them at fewer numbers.
Most of the other factions got fucked by the great schism that fractured the sangheili.
Then we have Cortana taking over the galaxy and destroying Doisac, and I assume that was terrible for their numbers.
The Banished are formidable but I don't see how they can possibly be at Covenant numbers with so much shit against them. And they don't even have to, I always found the Covenant to be a ridiculous idea. Basically put all aliens against humans because they're racists or something.

The truce is broken at the end of the book after the super secret shadow prophet betrays mini Tartarus.

Despite all the cover on the other side of the wall, the camo elites all rush into this chokepoint where they have no leverage. Maybe the encounter would be better if they don't attack until you're in the middle of the room. All the work they did to place all those space crates is wasted by having the fight take place here.

They greatly improved its capailbilities at the cost of having it require a much higher entry skillset.
It was an overall win. There's less shit maps to sift through, and the maps that are made are singificantly more impressive.
It's more of an actual map editor now. I'd be fine with them including a dumbed down legacy build for people that don't want to take the time to git gud, but the idea that Bungie Forge was better is a pretty rediculous take.

A large part of that is Staten taking a break through like 90% of Halo 3's development. But yeah, I think it would have been better if they ignored the people who complained about Halo 2's story being too complicated or not wanting to see the Covenant's perspective. Seriously, a few 2/3 minute cutscenes focused on Truth's perspective alone would have moved Halo 3's story up a grade.

I think he understands that being a yes man is still the only way to get hired as a writer. I can forgive ODST to some extent because it was a different storyline and atmosphere, but there really should have been some Elite vs Brute fighting going on, at least on New Mombasa Streets at night. It would have added a lot of depth without requiring much more writing. And having some kind of small side story about the Great Schism probably would have been better than putting that effort into Sadie's Story because it would tie into the rest of the Halo games better, but that probably would have taken too much time, and Staten was already filling his head with Destiny stuff at the time. And maybe they just didn't have the time to get Elite enemy AI working properly in ODST, because it's not like they were designed as an enemy in Halo 3. The way they act doesn't feel quite right in ODST Firefight either. It's more like they took the Brute AI and pasted it on them.

Lovecraft space zombies that immediately become threat #1 against every other faction. Everyone and everything else plays by their rules to the point that the environment is seen gradually deteriorating into their aesthetic.
Like many things in the franchise, they peak right here in CE.
>Halo 2 Flood
Less mysterious with the introduction of Gravemind, and their aesthetic corruption of the environment is less potent because Halo 2 spans so many locations, but they retain their chaotic nature. Once again everyone else plays by their rules, with one of the best story moments in the franchise when Gravemind steals High Charity right from under everyone's nose.
Altogether a great showing which, while not recapturing the magic of CE's Flood, finds its own appeal.
>Halo 3 Flood
Incompetent. They constantly show up late, react to the plans other factions set in motion, and get tricked. They tried to add some mystery back by not showing Gravemind's face and having him talk telepathically, but his role in the story is so pathetic it doesn't even matter. And while their environmental corruption courtesy of the Xbox 360 could have been interesting, it's wasted on a bad mission (Floodgate) and the worst mission in the entire franchise (Cortana).
An embarrassing way for the true villains of the franchise to go out.

I can see how some people might like Mythic because it encourages the player to get better with a certain mechanic the game is designed around at all times (Not that it matters much in practice because headshot weapons are more viable than the others the majority of the time).
But in the case of Black Eye, the game is built around a mechanic and it strips it out entirely without adjusting anything else. It's objectively bad.

it varies by game, but black eye in ODST firefight was the most locked in fun stuff on my endure runs. It was tough at first but I really learned to appreciate it.
Tilt is another great one for how it changes things up.
