Grimgor has no mentor, no friends, no change of heart, he follows no tradition, he does no reforms.
He's a really angry militaristic freak who is compelled to beat up other orcs, force them into ranks, and making them march into battle.

He has no plan, there is no goal. He can't tell apart Malekith or Mannfred or Queek or Karl Franz or Durthu, they are all the same thing to him.

He's always in a bad mood and always has a bad temper, but his "tantrums" are long gigantic crusades that only seek the largest target on the map and smash it.

He's not very far removed from Skarbrand, mentally, but unlike Skarbrand he can just sit down and think about his plans without his mind being foggy, and he is much more disciplined, never killing when it doesn't bring forth more strength for him or a bigger battle.

He has no real backstory, it doesn't matter - he lives entirely in the present and the future.
He won't utter a single word about the past.

as a human how do you decide where to move your units?
>if there's a strong enemy stack around retreat to the nearest allied settlement with defensive buildings

Only started playing TWW3 about a month or two ago, after a multi years long break since TWW1/2 days. It's kinda incredible how much of the game has fallen apart or gotten worse instead of improving.

Yeah considering Vlad wants to be Emperor my dream rework for him would be slowly defeating and force vassalizing empire factions that spread vampire corruption until finally killing off the faction of reikland & capturing altdorf to get a banner/event popup declaring you the new emperor and giving you access to the whole empire unit roster.

Not sure if I would prefer creating a new human generic Lord that buffs empire units or just outright allowing vlad to recruit the empire generic lords too,
I want Vlad to be a true hybrid of the Empire & Vampire count Races and freely mix & match their units.

NTA but probably the magic resist -> spell resist change. Him and Azhag were incredible in the late game as many elite units and lords/heroes had magic attack so they were fast, flying beatsticks with easy 75% or more magic resist.

you start with a small, elite task force that's fun to manage, and later on you can branch into collecting soulful auxilary forces, or specifically collect SEM pokemons - the more retarded, the more it means that this convoy has seen and experienced a lot of shit during the course of the game.

The game has a queue system for actions on the battle map. Actions can be 'dumped' from the queue if the queue gets flooded to avoid a softlock but for some reason autonomous unit behaviours like acquiring targets and attacking are going through this queue. There's no reason for that except that somebody was probably trying to optimize something under the hood and ended up with crossing two pieces of spaghetti code without realizing it.

You can see some other applications of this issue in large (ie multi-army siege battles) where pathing just breaks and units stop moving or lose cohesion entirely when moving down streets or on walls.

Long story short is that CA imploded after the fail of Hyena's last year and in the process of downsizing and restructuring, they cancelled every TW game that was currently in production as part of a comprehensive reassessment of priorities.

There are new TW games in development now, but that development only started late last year and they confirmed in their last fiscal report that there would be no major title release in 2025. So until 2026, they only have WH3 to pad their financial statements. Hence the priority put on stewarding WH3 and churning out more DLC for it this year.

WH3 will probably be set down once their next major title is on the launchpad and they shift their priorities towards DLC support for that new title. But it's anybody's guess when that will be, likely not at least until Q2 2026 and possibly later.

I did start to get really tired of them in battles, but their campaign mechanics kept me interested well beyond how long I usually play a campaign. Adventures + Book of Grudges gave me a lot of goals to make progress towards. I also liked grudge confederating distant dwarf factions and having to manage different pockets of my empire on distant parts of the world fighting wars on multiple fronts. I think the deeps are a neat settlement mechanic too.

That's how I ended up playing but for most of the campaign I just felt aimless running around razing stuff for no real reason. The more I played the more I started to miss having some kind of empire/campaign management to do or specific objective to work towards. All the horde management also got kind of tedious too with the constant stance swapping and movement range management between raiding and encamping to upgrade, disbanding and rerecruiting new units.

Mass vanguard deploy memes were fun for a bit but I really hated ungor chaff. Jabberslythe felt kinda underwhelming as a capstone unit and seemed to ragdoll enemies too much to actually hit them. Minos are pretty cool though. I do like the upgraded infantry like tzaangors, bestigors and pestigors but it felt like a trap to spend dread on them rather than minos and heros and upgrades so I didn't end up using too many of them by the time I got bored and quit. I admit I probably mismanaged dread a lot though.

Creative Assembly had over 800 people pre-December 2023 before the mass the firings. They currently have around 350 employees between Sofia and UK. Where is the manpower to work on more than 2 games at once?

By comparison Larian Studios who made Baldur's Gate 3 has 470 employees. Meaning they have over 100 more employees then Creative Assembly.

"working on a game" means the lawyers are ironing out the legal and licensing issues, management is deciding the manpower required and the budget, and marketing is researching what aspects to push and what aspects to forego.
All of this may be in progress for one, two, or six games, while the actual devs and artists work on one/two at the time.
This doesn't mean that "the making of one single game" is in progress, other pieces are moving and they're arguably more meaningful than programmers animating a model in blender.

Burning head hurts way less than comet of cassandora but is way harder to dodge because the cast is shorter and the arrival is instant

beastmanii chariots have always been good. Those and chaos chariots have been pretty good although the use case is so slim with how campy the AI is. Skullcrackers and Iron Daemons have been pretty good in my chorf campaigns since they're semi-early to get and excel at punching down on chaff, and I use them more with the limited recruitment.

What makes anti large cavalry so great is that monsters and chariots can't path through them because they actually have mass AND won't get ragdolled by being touched meaning they will actually do damage.

This isn't even limited to Empire, this is just a general issue with game balance across all factions is that spears/halberds are only actually useful against cavalry. Single entities won't even take a reasonable amount of damage from bowling straight through their supposed cost effective counters in braced anti large infantry. I'm not saying they should WIN, I'm saying they should STOP them.

We know they cancelled all their ongoing TW projects after Hyenas died (these were likely Saga titles related to Troy/Pharaoh and may have gotten rolled into its dynasties update)
And we know they started a new TW project afterwards that is tentatively planned for release sometime 2026.

That they would cancel ongoing TW projects in favour of a different TW project shows a change in course, and the conditions around the company presently represent the sort of 'break glass in case of emergency' situation, which means the next TW game is either something drawing from an existing IP with a captive audience (ie 40k, star wars, etc.) or what TW perceives to be the most anticipated sequel to an existing TW game, of which Medieval 3 is one such possibility.

However we don't have any info whatsoever on what the in-development TW game might actually be. Everything beyond the fact that it exists, began development late 2024 and is targeted 2026 for release is speculation.

A funny problem the AI has is that it never disbands units. With its cheated 8+ recruitment slots it'll easily churn out earlygame shitstacks full of t1 units but then it's stuck with these shitstacks eating up its army limit/upkeep and never upgrades them until a gracious player comes along and destroys their shitstacks for them. Lategame AI being 'trapped' with nothing but t1 armies because it never lost any units to replace with better ones is a big issue.

I haven't played much WH3 lately because the game is trash but the main problem with bracing is not the bracing mechanic itself but rather how obnoxiously good the AI is at microing their spearmen to brace the nanosecond you try to charge them.
There are other reasons why cav is useless and has been useless since WH1 and they have more to do with the HP system and the absence of morale rather than bracing mechanics.
The HP system makes it so cav rarely one-shots models but rather knocks them over and when they stand up the cav - which for some reason has 0 mass - gets trapped and slaughtered.
The complete absence of morale shock from TWWH makes it so cav loses its main appeal. Chain routs do not happen in this game so the only value morale shock gives you is you get to wack broken infantry in the back for a few seconds until they inevitably rally - a job that is performed infinitely better by war doggos than by cav.

Have you seen the Lizardmen tree? You at least get stuff like bound spells for LoC, army abilities, Charmed contact effect for Screamers and +40% Spell res for a bunch of units.

Lizardmen have a huge brick of a tech tree with like 3 good Skink techs and a semi-decent Terradon tech early on, and then one +10% Casualty replenishment you'll only get at turn 150. That's literally it.

Your ghosts were way better in 1, and now you have extra LLs to worry about. Tons of extra LLs. Ikit and Grom and Vampire Coast is actually kinda irrelevant and Skulltaker and . Hammerers are better than in 1 but I felt like my ghosts could just solo most armies in 1, now they get mauled and there’s no good way to replenish them and if Skrag gets involved you don’t have any good anti large for their ogre spam and there’s just so many factions who hate you and not a soul nearby who likes you that will survive past the first five turns except Elspeth and the Feet Enchantress and I can’t afford a second army to defend any of my settlements

idk i don't play mp. but cost limits forcing players to take more low tier chaff is probably a factor. smaller armies also means it's easier to micro cavalry. and mobility is more important with objectives on the field, and also more important against real players who don't sit there statically or predictably. mp units also aren't subject to ai leadership cheats if we're discussing this in the context of comparison to a high difficulty SP player.

You also can use cav because your units don't need to survive the battle.
It doesn't matter if you finish the battle with 2 men and a donkey, you don't have to replenish loses.
The idea of a persistent campaign completely changes how battles should be approached.

Several reasons.
In singleplayer the oppourtunity cost of fielding a unit includes the cost of its recruitment structure, and cavalry often have a separate recruitment structure tree that makes them a less cost-effective option. Often cavalry isn't strictly bad, just inferior to a different option.

In singleplayer there are no practical limits, so an optimal army stacks as many of your best units and can win with brute force statistical superiority. There's essentially no incentive to field cheaper armies because Supply Lines punishes you for fielding more armies, no matter how cheap they are, so it's always better to simply stack your most powerful and expensive units into an army. Conversely, multiplayer has both a much more limited economy that favours cheap, high-impact specialist units and often includes house rules that put hard limits on certain units, forcing you to diversify even when an option would otherwise be inferior.

Typically competitive multiplayer also takes the form of a capture zone mode, where high mobility units have a natural advantage in map presence, there are fewer units in the board at a time and the lack of concrete battle lines allows for high mobility units to have more agency to pick their fights

And lastly, the singleplayer AI cheats shamelessly, which devalues specialist melee units whose favourable matchups narrow due to AI stat cheats. Many cavalry units are rendered useless by AI cheats, because they will just lose in melee to ranged units. This is same for leadership, the AI cheats unrealistically high leadership pools on top of campaign buffs that further increase them. This makes it unrealistic to rout a unit before dealing enough damage/casualties to essentially eliminate it. Absent campaign stat modifiers and AI cheats, the balance of multiplayer is radically different.

>How do MP campaigns work
We play without any mods on the latest stable version. Each player has simultaneous turns and then the AI plays sequentially as in SP. We try to autoresolve as many battles as possible to save time. Every time a player manually fights a battle, we try to involve all players by distributing units from both sides. We can FFA or teams but I usually play team games (2v2s being the most common).

>What are the rules
I prefer a casual game so people of all skill levels can participate. But I'm going to use some of the discord rules to keep it fair.
1) No blatantly overpowered factions (such as changeling). Use your discretion.
2) No moving in ambush stance and if you're revealed during your turn, you don't get to use ambush until next turn.

>What is expected of me
MP campaigns are a serious time investment. If you can spare a few hours tomorrow, we can get a couple of turns in. If you like what we did, we can try to do it every week to continue a campaign potentially into late game.
There is no in game chat so the discord groups use discord VC. For /twg/, we can use the steam chat.

And you dont always have to build the tier1 cav building. You capture it from AI, get 2/4/6 of them and demoslish it.

Total War Warhammer 40k is being announced this year and launching next year by summer.
Med3 is also being made but the plan is to only announce it after 40k launches so the games don't eat each other's "share" of players and attention.
They want these 2 games to be their BIG money makers for years to come, with multiple DLC (obviously) and big expansions, at this moment they're NOT considering multiple games for 40k and instead building this one game to be upgraded through the years and having big expansions DLC as the new "games".
Same shit for Med3, focusing on new theaters (Asia, Americas, Africa, Middle East) and a campaigns with specific time periods and smaller "condensed" maps in mind, also making a huge full on world map at the end. They plan to range this game time period from 500 to up to 1700 including expansions.
Other Total Wars are being thrown around like Star Wars, Elder Scrolls and LOTR for fantasy. Empire 2 and WW1 for history, but they need the first two games to hit the spot so they can stride in these other games, they need their cashcows.
A new updated/overhauled engine will support both 40k and Med3. Sega is going all out on total war and CA will have to land these 2 games to have any want on making anything different.
Isolation 2 is pretty early in dev and will depend on the success of total war as well.
Warhammer 3 is nearing it's "death" but they still have BIG updates to come and plan to launch updates/DLC for it like they did for Rome 2 after 40k launches.
Sofia is going to heavily support Med3 and 40k.
That's it, I hope both games are amazing because it's going to be a good time for us all.

honestly it boggles my mind when people start thinking about units in such a manner, not to say your arguements are necessarily wrong but I find it weird when people start trying to min/max their units so much in this game and I say this as someone who plays on the hardest settings possible.

the game isnt even remotely that difficult to warrant this level of indepth minmaxing and I run thematic and unoptimized army comps all the time with no issues.

I would understand if you guys were talking about the competitive scene and MP but needing to minmax SP this much seems so bizarre to me.

It could happen but usually it doesn't and when it does it's against units that are of such low quality that something like dual sword infantry would be more suitable. Either way, rear charge leading into a rout or not they're gonna come back again - and again - and again. Them running off the battlefield does not happen in this game until they reach the rout cap of 3 or whatever. It just doesn't. I already conceded that cav can get some bonus value by smacking routing units in the back for a few seconds but that's it. They *will* rally 3 times and chain routs do not happen. As long as those 2 facts remain cav will be lacklustre unless they're a bundle of stats.

hot take - slaanesh doesn't really need t5 dangerous centerpiece units. the AI handles light cav absurdly well, if you aren't noob boxing your artillery/ranged against AI slaanesh their hellstriders and chariots probably will fuck those units up, and if you have no ranged their chariots and cav still do pretty well at picking good targets, and maneuvering to them. In the hands of a player, by the time you're doomstacking, you can just use seduction to take the best units of the enemy and play to their new weaknesses, i.e. removing their fastest units or taking their artillery or even just their best anti-artillery artillery (cannons or jezzails or WLCs, etc)

I did that a few times with Respanse by starting off in the Badlands and having to fight Chorfs. Pretty fun.

VCoast has the shittiest roster, sartosans are the best units for just being good early game and running decently well the entire campaign, this was just a tremendous counter to them. A vamps caster, guncrabs, handgunners, and artillery could've mopped that army but it's such a high investment, winds have to be good, etc. Easily the least comfy race in battles.

I wish Gorbad's buffs were just. Better. They don't really do anything for the most part, a lot are complete shit or just irrelevant tiny buffs. Then some are super strong and fun but of course those are the ones they nerfed into the ground. The whole point is to make more army comps viable, but not a single goblin plan makes them anything but hot shit. Even on Normal. There's gotta be a better, more fun way to do his mechanic without breaking the game like an egg

They made way too many of them and tried to do way too many different things. It would work a lot better if there were like 3 or 4 per tier (or no tiers at all and just a limited selection) buffing specific already implemented army comps, and they were only available one one army at a time.
Or just give specific plans to specific Lord types that already buff their units. Make Savage Orc Great Shamans mini-Wurrzags. Night Goblin Big Bosses mini-Skarsniks, etc.

You wake up in the middle of your prefered remote-enough region.
There's a car you can drive and a cardboard box.
The box is labeled "nurgling" with a note to check the car.
In the trunk and backseat there are a variety of deadly items such as rocket launchers, antimateriel rifles, automatic rifles, grenades, c4, swords, polearms, knives, bleach, etc.

It’d be cool if they gave like, actual game changing effects. Armor sundering to goblins and frenzy when they drop below 50% hp because you made them high as fuck but they start at 75% hp, adding a shitton of accuracy to normally super inaccurate artillery at the tradeoff of them having no ammo (cuz dey used all it on shootan practice boss), making a specific unit unbreakable and uncontrollable, adding stalk to a unit of black orcs because they painted themself purple. Giving strider to chariots because they painted themselves red. Fun stuff like that.
