What are using for the REV Guard button in notation?

"R" seems popular enough.

But I heard of "E" being used after the first 4 attack buttons. I like it.
And we can easily use "F" for a possible feint button binding in the future.

Hokuto is the only character from MotW getting a more drastic redesign than a new outfit since he's being aged up. Gato, Dong and Kain got redesigns too, and we don't know if Jae would be get one if he's not in the game. If he gets a redesign too then that's why he was saved for this late and he won't really big a big surprise coming after the new Hokutomaru. Neither of these characters would likely be left for the last reveals in the game unless they do something stupid like revealing Fallen Rock right now

So logically we should expect something along the lines of
>Jae, Hokutomaru, Geese/Rock
>Hokutomaru, Geese, Rock
>Jae, Hokutomaru, Freeman

But SNK could just reveal Hokutomaru right now since in spite of everything we somehow still don't know the last two characters unless they got really lazy and added two Howard functions as the last characters when we already have Rock. That's part of why everybody figures Jae is a lock because having a traditional Kim function is at least a moveset people want in this game

Jae would almost assuredly get a redesign based on the fact that Dong got one. Dong's redesign in this game is based on one of his old MotW concept arts and Jae has his own that could easily/likely be what he gets in CotW.

I don't think it really matters who gets revealed next as long as Geese is the last reveal (which I expect to be the case) because that's gonna be the reveal that grabs all the attention before release.

After Kevin was revealed it should've been obvious Hokutomaru was going to be saved for last. Most of the MotW roster was already in at that point and his voice in the preview being deeper clearly indicated SNK was putting priority on making his redesign a big deal. The pacing of the reveals make sense for the most part if you look back at when each happened

Kensou needs some special grab that only works againts the females, where he locks them in some bent over arm lock, and he just lift their skirt or pulls their pants down and he pulls down his pants and rubs his short groin with the female back groin for like 10 seconds and does something like two strong punches damage.

But like this super is countered by the males, and he receives a 40% damage conter hit.

Basically this super would be used as time over joke special againts the female characters.

Fatal Fury being dead for 25 years is to blame really, most of these characters don't really have much value because they need this game to succeed since MotW was a cliffhanger that didn't really leave much to be desired which is why only a handful of characters made the KOF leap like Tizoc, Jenet and Gato, it's not like KOF had too many more notable characters after the bankruptcy, you can see it in XV's roster choices. It's a case of this game needing to do the hard work to sell these characters since star power isn't a luxury any SNK game has outside of Terry and Mai being crossover whores. Besides it's not like a majority of the population knew about Guilty Gear characters pre-Strive

Doesn't help that the hot meme when the OBT dropped was everyone dunking on Vox for for his Reagonomics ass victory quote lmao

He's just an edgelord. Saying "nobody cares" doesn't really matter because it's easier to deflect and say "nobody cares about SNK" because at the end of the day whatever picks up is what people are going to think of your character. Nobody on the roster really feels "evil" at the end of the day, you have Kain being German and trying to make South Town into Outer Heaven but for broke people and Vox is really just along for the ride because of his master. Shit the fact Freeman is the most likely to be cut significantly softens the game, even if Nightmare Geese is highly likely to be playable

There were people in this very thread bitching about not having many villains playable just as people are bitching about the game being a sausage fest. They want Fatal Fury to be KOF with a big variety of crap and toys to play with that don't mean anything. Personally I have mad respect for SNK for actually making a fucking sequel in an era where every fighting game is a safe ass soft reboot that undermines decades of storytelling to arbitrarily appease its playerbase

The game really just needs to stick the landing because it's coming out at a better time than KOFXV did squeezed between Strive and SF6/MK1. People are finally getting tired of these games and something fresh is going to help a lot. Only thing is I know people are going to get sick of the game immediately because it's too hard for them and just go back to the games they supposedly hate because they get results there. But from the looks of the Episodes of South Town leak, I think people will be interested in at least seeing what being a Fatal Fury game has to offer this time around. I'm just fucking happy that they're finally concluding the myriads of cliffhangers they've left hanging for once

it is *a* solution, that you're right about, and a step in the right direction away from kof slop despite kof being perceived as their strongest flagship, as kof wasn't doing meaningful numbers 9k
it's still just another fighting game
you can't worry so much about hard when people memed demon souls and such, but the difficulty must be something they can engage in personally and not require another person who may or may not show up to play with them

and because all snk does is fighting games, all people who mark out for snk talk about is playing against someone else while turning down challenges from a not so good player like myself who does 2-20 against some guy in the thread

episodes of south town, hope it's a nice experience but we'll see
i'm more interested in the features such as that lane switch one, which they should have put in a trailer already because you can sell that to the geeks, especially the ones here who wanted that and can say something like "hey lmao we actually have the lane switch and it's not just an sf6 gimmick combo lmao at you", and seeing that in a trailer would have gotten them talking, but now it's spoiled for us

The difference between a difficult game like Demon Souls and a Fighting game is the PVP aspect. PVP is personal, it's something that makes you feel inadequate if you lose. If you lose in Demon Souls you can either grind or use some kind of cheese strat and win. In a fighting game you have to be better than the other player in some way, which is only fun if you're about equal skill level. In other pvp games you can easily blame your team and say you were the one doing all the work if you lose, but a 1v1 game outs people like the losers they are

The lack of news hurts the game more than anything really. SNK will be able to drive up hype for about 3 days tops and then it's radio silence until the next update. Fortunately leaks are something that only affect the people who look for them, but it says a lot the most excited and interested this general was for the game was when info leaked so that we actually HAD something to talk about

I agree with this to an extent but it bothers me when it distracts from the core game. The reason SF6 DLC passes are so expensive is because they're like 40% pvp content and like 60% of an entirely separate spinoff game that isn't particularly well cooked. I would like to see more of Episodes of South Town to actually gauge whether or not it's fun to begin with, let alone better. The Visual Novel idea isn't that bad, but it is still reading rather than playing a game, and it evolved into GG Xrd/Strive's awful 4 hour anime movies that feel so disconnected from the actual game that they might as well be completely separate too

It's kind of sad because I do love the first FF's story and how its arcade mode was handled but no other fighting game has ever really achieved that feeling of accomplishment. The closest was BlazBlue and that fell the fuck off rather fast

i mean, people frequently reference the "snk boss syndrome" of ye olde as some kind of badge to wear, so it's not far from the truth
although when you do it to an snk boss, it just makes the boss look easy when you find out what his ai is susceptible to and it's usually like "press this button" (rugal 95 can sometimes die easy to kensou standing D for instance)
but there's not a lot of moving around and dodging to accomplish it so its not as interactive if you find the cheese strategy on an snk boss
in other sp games, it's repetitive, but it still encourages you to move around to do it and bosses can be damage sponges

here's the fact of life, most people aren't into the 1v1 scene, not even a lot of snk players
and that's even evident from past interactions in this general where someone even brazenly admitted he enjoyed nukof single player and somehow miraculously believed it to have good replay value
don't ask me how, i didn't assess that, didn't care, if he feels that way then congrats to him

i genuinely want snk to put their name on the map while remaining true as possible to their legacy gaming philosophies as far as maintaining those features in their games are concerned, and without preclusion of including more than just that, or being more than just that, even though it's hard when there's so much defeatism, fatalism, reservation, resignation, conservativeness about it like introducing more things is some scary change that'll turn people into trannies, and people should let go of that attitude

Here me out, here's how to fix fighting games:
1. Game doesn't have any matchmaking, you have to join dedicated lobby servers like old school cs go.
2. Game doesn't have any concept of rank, if you want ladder do it using 3rd party tools, or one of the dedicated servers.

3. Game is not an esports, you can hold tournaments but there should be no monetary incentive for anyone except the winner, i.e, the tournaments can't be sponsored by any company, only anonymous funding is allowed. There will be no advertisement, even the company who created the game isn't allowed to fund tournaments. Games are not a job that you can use to live a lifestyle.

That's a symptom of current "muh ranked" culture. Which by its very definition means, "it's not just a game". Which leads to people mindlessly grinding stuff they don't like and then lash out on other peoples which gives rise to "hunting this or that guy". Matchmaking exemplifies this even further. Remove ranking+matchmaking and the issue goes away.

People think rank is necessary for competition which is just a lie, because arcades have that right from the beginning. Not to mention, rotating characters every sequel also lowers the bar for new players and allows good players to have more variety. It also puts pressure on devs for releasing actually good sequels otherwise people will stick to the old ones because of dedicated server are forever.

Not all of this needs to happen at once, but we definitely need to remove the concept of rank from every game. There are other measures that are far better like, rewarding cool skins for motion accuracy, timing, guards, etc.

I think that's a good thing, it's like going to an arcade and seeing that player who beats the shit out of you last time, you always challenge him once everyday to see if you are improving, and then move on to fighting other players. You can chat with him, and the others.

And a good player likely, wouldn't be interesting in fighting too many low skilled players, he can train his weaker areas, etc both sides win.

The thing that has me scratching my head is there seems to only be one line per character for him as opposed to a lot of other DLC having two, and the lines sound more confrontational than post-match victory(imo), suggesting EOST shenanigans. As for canon, his suicide was only mentioned in the anniversary short and he's one of Oda's favorites so I could easily see them retconning him. The only other thing is he's like 75 now, but according to EOST strings Tung somehow hasn't died so I guess everyone is immortal

Characters only die off screen if they're considered irrelevant. A big reason for most of the Fatal Fury cast being sort of dumped with Garou because the series stagnated into Dream Match hell after Real Bout so the writers at the time were ready to just move onto a brand new set of characters because the story was spinning its wheels after Geese's final death

Now that Fatal Fury is being revived the team are actually taking advantage of the franchise's lore and making deeper FF and AOF references than we would've gotten if MOW2 actually happened. There is a high likelihood some of these characters could be major EOST NPCs you fight as bosses. Would be a shame, but it's also no different than Damnd or Retsu being in World Tour so at least it does show the creators care

CotW will be a step in the right direction, but I don't know if they're really capable of reversing the damage KOF has done to his image. And I don't think Warrior's Rage 2 is particularly plausible. Unlike MotW it is obscure as fuck and usually being told to stand away from.
Even though its cast is cool, I bet a lot people would react like "Who the fuck are those guys?". It might work if it made a much bigger accent on returning characters than CotW does though. And if there's a 3D SamSho collection of sorts.
But I'd bet more on SNK making a new SamSho take place either before Sen or right after Sen.

It's like having a restaurant that specialized in making the best tacos, and then being forced to compete with hamburgers because more people now buy hamburger than tacos.

It's pretty clear that the taco market wont dissapear, but is also a mistake to try to change the thing you were historically recognized to chase some other market of people that will never guy your game.

SNK should have tried to evolve into a similar path to nintendo where their games are closer to AA games and try to appeal their core fanbase while being cheap to make.

SNK wants to compete with Capcom for the SF and Arc systems market when is pretty clear cacpcom or Arc system players wont playe kof.

It's like a taco shop trying to appeal to people that are loyal to wendy or subway.

KOF should try to create a more appealing game to the casual kof players and hope it could driven people with a casual interest in the IP into trying the games.

Not going to the subway or wendy fans and trying them to try a taco.

Trying to make their pixel art tech into a cheaper tech would have been a better idea longer term than competing with capcom or arcsys in areas they are better.

Keep in mind where we're at now. 10 years ago BlazBlue was at its peak and the only new Fatal Fury content were an OVA from nearly 9 years prior and a few Pachinkos. At best there was a new KOF coming out the following year. Now BlazBlue is so dead that people believe Guilty Gear is ArcSys' legacy franchise that kept the company identity alive while SNK is doubling down on the return of FF after leaving KOF in the dust

It's really bizarre how heavily things have shifted and changed

FF's issues back in the day were just mainly being way too gimmicky for their own good. Special was the best Fatal Fury up until Real Bout Special and that was Street Fighter II with the obnoxious lane system. It got lost in the sauce with Real Bout and Garou wasn't going to save shit the same way SFIII couldn't save Capcom

Besides, Street Fighter couldn't even keep up with its own success. Super Turbo basically remained the mainline Street Fighter game until SFIV. Alpha was never as big as SF fans pretend it is

It wouldn't have helped SNK at all. It would've been more of the same the same way KOF sequels were more of the same and for a studio hemorrhaging money and having just come back from bankruptcy it's honestly good that they put Fatal Fury on ice instead of doubling down immediately on more of the same for a franchise that needed a true facelift. Personally they should've done a sequel MUCH sooner than 25 years later, but beggars can't be choosers

At the very fucking least it's actually a direct sequel and not another soft reboot that ignores the previous game happened

I used Smart all thru out beta too and got A ranks with Rock and Kain but I did so because I plan to actually main Smart Style. I'm a SF6 Modern player so Smart is my preferred way of playing and even though I see alot of Modern players from SF6 shitting on Smart and being unhappy with it I thought they were perfectly fine outside of not being able to do rev specials manually.

More controversial take but I think one button specials & supers compensate for the loss of feints&brakes more than a lot of ppl think because they're using SF6 as their reference point but the effectiveness of the modern inputs in my experience seem stronger in COTW meta than SF6 and synergize with the cast(that were in the beta atleast) better than SF6 so people are grossly underestimating the potential of shortcut supers/specials in Smart Style.

if you're bad enough any experience will help, but WT is kinda shitty
you can see what they were going for, there's enemies that try to force you to anti air or jump command grabs and shit but like almost all fighting game singleplayers what it actually promotes is just finding how to mash the CPU to death, don't expect it to make you better than just running through a normal arcade mode a couple times would
that said if you find the janky open world thing interesting experience is experience, the most important thing for learning fighting games initially is just getting used to the controls and moving your character around and shit, which just takes enough time to build familiarity and you might as well get the hours in whatever mode seems most interesting to you
TFH does the same idea significantly better, but only the first chapter exists or will ever exist

There's a lot of value to Second Impact as a game. Better aesthetics, music, Sean, being pretty refined. It feels like a finished version of SFIII while Third Strike feels like an unfinished version of a great game

Really Garou's only issue is Rock, Tizoc and Freeman being unplayable rather than Kevin, Gato, Kain and Grant being overtuned desu. It's a bit of a significant issue, that's 3/14 of the roster, but honestly a sequel really wouldn't really have fixed that issue

I honestly have no idea what they've been doing since Mai got revealed. They did nothing for two months between her trailer and Dong's (except a bad reveal for Ken and Chun as DLC), then did nothing for another two months until they revealed Gato, then did nothing for ANTOHER two months until Kain and season 1's reveal.

And now we're here, exactly a month after Kain and with just over a month until the game comes out and we still have THREE characters left to reveal. They totally fell asleep at the wheel with the game's marketing and if the game bombs as a result they only have themselves to blame.

They shouldn't be waiting until a month before launch to reveal 3 characters, things would've been fine if they had another character reveal in January but I think they held Kain back to reveal him alongside the OBT (which was a bad decision imo)

NeoGeoNow brought up the similarities to A3 World Tour to Oda himself during the interview he did and iirc it wasn't really refuted. That's about how it looks anyway; the video shows a GPS-style map with icons you select for each fight and an exp system for leveling up your character.

That's because SNK actually cares about the integrity of character design while Capcom doesn't know fuck all about how to create things so they think every time they make something new it needs to be from scratch. It's how you get a character like Juri who doesn't have an arc and is basically being introduced as a brand new character every time she shows up

Which means they lied when they announced the "green light" for cotw at evo, since it was already in development before. Kof15 should have more content than it does now. That's a fact. The boss challenger screen is so blatantly obvious that no one can say otherwise. If they hadn't been bought by the Saudis and Kof15 had won the FG award, things would be very different now. Today we could have Krizalid, Zero, Mukai and even Shion as boss challenger. Shen Woo, Oswald, Kasumi, SF team and Momoko as DLC. Also tons of mods and porn.

There is another way to use the smart combo button that isn't explained in the tutorial(like most things in the beta). Ofcourse you can just mash on it for a auto combo but it also has another function which is that when you press the smart combo button right after pressing any cancelable normal the move will cancel into a special move and the special it cancels into is dependent on if the normal was blocked or hit.

So for example I can just mash far C with Rock and immediately press the smart combo button and if the far C hit it cancels into hard edge if it's blocked it goes into fireball which keeps me safe. This to me is very powerful and possibly broken. Anytime I went for oki with Rock in the beta I would just do a light chain then mindlessly press the smart combo button, if it hit I cancel into hard edge if it didn't I was safe as safe can be.

And while I enjoyed exploiting this something about it feels wrong. With an auto combo it doesn't feel like the game is playing for me because I earned the opening to able to use it in the first place but with this, the game is actually playing for me. Does the lack of brakes and feints really justify such a power?

Yeah it could go either way still, but Jae just makes sense to me based on the other signs pointing towards him as well as how easy it would be for them to just have the Kim Kaphwan academy pin represent both brothers. They could have easily given Dong Hwan his own unique pin if Jae wasn't coming, but they didn't, they went with something that applies to both. It just lines up too well really imo.

Regardless though I'm pretty sure the two logo pins are there instead of Geese and Fallen Rock getting one to prevent spoilers (though they got datamined anyway lmao).

The biggest issue is its roster is weak coming off of 2, let alone Special. Unfortunately that was during peak tourney comp era shit so having a weak roster hurt it as much as the lack of game polish did thanks to the earthquake. Thankfully it lead to Real Bout, but it's a shame it never saw its true potential

It's in a weird place where it added things like target combos, but the game just felt kinda jank. It's hard to explain, but it just FEELS less good than Special or RBS/RB2. Maybe a smoother input buffer? Also I distinctly remember trying to do lane switches with a pad being a fucking nightmare.

NESTS OCs are mostly lucky to have seniority behind them and their own lore to lean on. Ash-Verse Saga OCs just don't have much reason for people to invest in them because their story and gameplay tend to be pretty undercooked. It doesn't help the last 3 games have mostly been focused on legacy characters. XIV is half-and-half but its newcomers are the worst KOF has to offer

Exactly like that.
Practice the links one at a time. If the combo is: c.D > 214D > 2A > 214C***
First learn c.D > 214D and when you are comfortable move on to c.D > 214D > 2A > and finally the whole c.D > 214D > 2A > 214C.
From what I could see in the first beta the comfortable ones are easy and accessible: of course there is no training and possibly there will be very very fucked combos routes with the famous link of 1f and so on when people already have the full game.

Since RE6 was a massive flop they needed to "soft reboot" things they decided to bring back the safest character while doing remakes for the actually popular characters like Leon, Ada and Jill. But the actual reason is because RE is a contemporary series that takes place the year it comes out, all of the characters I listed would be old as dust now and they don't want to portray those characters in their 40s or lord forbid their 50s. Time keeps slipping, game dev gets longer and now we're over a decade from RE6 which was their most recent appearance. This is why Street Fighter ditched contemporary release for the comic book floating timeline while CotW takes place "pre-Smartphone age"

Eventually Capcom's going to have to give in and fully reboot RE like horror movie franchises end up having to

Mostly roster and mechanic differences. 98UM has features from all of the Orochi Saga games and every single character up to 98. You can mix and match them for a game that's incredibly diverse. Also it has Mr. Big

02UM is the most generic KOF game you can play with the biggest roster of toys to play with. It features every character from a NESTS game and a few alts to pad the roster further. You can play as 3 Kyos

Me watching Tekken players who sat through literally a decade of 45 second loading screens in between each rematch in a set online complain about 1 second of black screen in between rounds online in COTW.

Me watching SF players complaining about the lack of a Feint macro when top players in their game are literally drilling holes in their stick just to have easier access to drive impact on reaction. (And let's not forget V-Shift in SFV was literally on the same button placement as feints on a 6 button layout)

Me watching ArcSys players complaining about menu options activating on button release instead of button press and having to free-move a cursor with an analog across a grid instead of 9 presses on the d-pad when they play a game where you have to move a chibi cursor to different spots in the playground just to access basic options.

How am I supposed to see things like this and pretend it all isn't a smear campaign?

Has a learning curve but isn't so tough to get your foot in the door. There's some pretty important tech that's kind of mandatory for him:

Otherwise basically just start by using B stance for approaches and midscreen then A stance for corner pressure. Learn to super cancel the slide move and then maybe the air command normal too.

Of the original IPs in KOF, Athena is the most starved of the lot. The Ikaris survive off of Metal Slug crossovers, but Athena's got nothing. She has Athena, Psycho Soldier, and a rinky-dink PS1 AU game, and that's more or less it. All KOF gives us is "in the Psycho Soldier continuity, KOF is Athena and Kensou still in training for the troubles to come."

The fact Psycho Soldier hasn't happened yet in-universe is genuinely insane. It practically redefines Asamiya as just a KOF OC version of the original Princess Athena who has gotten even less attention as an SNK mascot due to the fighting game focus. Honestly if SNK wants to branch out from fighting games I'd straight up prefer an OG Athena reboot over a new Psycho Soldier, maybe you could even give Kensou a mythological Chinese dragon warrior ancestor just to throw him a bone at this point

This is why the idea of trying to tie KoF to everything is retarded. Athena and Kensou should just be AU versions of themselves like the AoF and FF guys.
Although like other anons have mentioned if they're to have relevance as part of SNK's various IPs the original series needs to be brought back. I wouldn't even bother mentioning KoF or that side of things much to begin with other than maybe a nod here and there (like sure this existed) rather than making it a central part of their development.

I picked up KOF XV on a whim so I can maybe get some practice in for Garou and now I'm not that excited for Garou anymore. At first, I would dodge KOF because I didn't like learning 3 characters but now I see it's not that difficult to pick up a character considering you go from button > command normal > special most of the time. I think I'm gonna stick with KOF and pick up Garou when it goes on sale down the line.

Kensou specifically wants to get strong enough to not have to rely on power he doesn't understand anything about and still needs to 'mature' as a warrior. Because while he understands his power is something to be responsible with, it doesn't stop him from getting a little arrogant about it along with his innate talent which is a trait Chin wants humbled out of him. Athena herself is lagging hard behind Kensou so she still needs to catch up and she has a problem with reconciling that one day she's probably going to have to seriously hurt or kill someone with her own hands to prevent them from harming the world which is something she's pretty shaken to think about. Naturally, this sort of key component of their characters is hardly ever brought up in games and left to profiles and text on out of date untranslated websites.
