I don't get the point of making heroes OCs dancers anymore, Heroes makes up like more than half the dancers in the game, and definitely the majority of dancers worth using. Just make this new Plumeria a fighter she's already got like 3 other alts that are all dancers

I know but color theory is a lot different than that, shades of grey can take other colors and give it vibrant looks, she's been lacking that a lot, for characters like Alear and whatnot they are already quite vibrant by default but Veyle needs a lot more effort from an artist to properly portray the appeal

I don't have a lot of weight to put on the matter but by FE standards TH is solid, by FE standards the character writing in the Azure Moon route is unmatched by anything in this franchise, and while I don't dislike Engage's barebones plot I really wish they stopped making the OC the focus of the story, TH having Byleth be a main party supporting the main characters of each route was much better for the character writing as a whole, even if the payoff is entirely on BL only

For the record narratively Genealogy is more interesting. Other than Azure Moon the story itself is not very good. 3H's strength is in the writing of its cast. When people talk about the writing they usually mean the characters. It's why 3H has been so dominant in FEH for so long and why its characters don't really fall off. FEH doesn't take a game's gameplay, just the characters, so if the character is decent FEH makes them perpetually popular.

If I had to guess, nostalgia for the 3H era when we had a thriving fanbase and communities.
Ever since Engage being a Fire Emblem fan has been miserable - I mean just look at the utter fucking state of most of the users here. The main subreddit is inactive. The FEH subreddit has become a weird cult organising CYL spite votes to annoy IS. Constant complaints about FEH content because they can't come to terms with the unpopularity of Engage spam.

Don't get me wrong, the 3H era had a lot of problems (ie Edeltards) but the modern FE fanbase is just a shell of its former self filled with bitterness. It feels like a dead IP even if it isn't.

Not even just that, it seems like they are now getting a resurgence in support. Sylvain ranked 12th overall in CYL9, the highest he has ever achieved. It was also his highest vote total since CYL4. Depending on how Fomo holds up/Byleth's votes fall he could actually win CYL next year with Sigurd, which I don't think anybody ever thought would happen.

And you know why. They can't accept people hate their shitty fucking game that they spent most of the time since Fates on. Everything we've seen between Fates and Engage was literal side projects. The main team was laughing and enjoying designing this otaku trashfire Gameplay too confusing for casuals and characters too horrible for anyone. Nintendo probably refused to release Engage as an anniversary title knowing how fucking bad it was. The plot has rewrites all over the place, references that go nowhere and more. There was no obvious reason to delay it past the anniversary but for some reason it comes out years after. Anyone else feel like Nintendo who sets the release dates, didn't even know what to do with it?

Under the guise of "this will expand the series since its different" they wasted all the Heroes cash on this. A game for no one with stupid shit in every corner. There's like 8 wake up scenes per character. A bloated fucking trashfire of an entry. But they enjoyed making it and were living it up with the Heroes money. So they are going to keep pushing it since they made it. It was the good times for them and the current devs have nothing to do with the games people actually like. Unless the higher ups take action to restructure the company and who is in charge over there.

Even funnier, his "climax" is avoidable. If you don't attack Morion with Diamant and do someone else like a spellcaster, that plotpoint just vanishes in the following cutscene.
Meanwhile, 3H had every house member talk in each chapter's intro and outro. Someone like Sylvain had a story chapter, a paralogue, and also a presence throughout the entire game.

See that's the thing, especially because that climax is being competed with Alcryst, but Alcryst's character arc continues in the story, it continues in the supports, unlike Diamant he still resents Ivy and Hortensia, and it takes knowing them to come to terms with his feelings on the matter. Same for Hortensia and Veyle whose whole support is Veyle trying to get Hortensia to be in good terms with her. Ivy and Diamant as characters die in their climax. Alfred doesn't even have a climax, nor does Timerra.

Diamant doesn't get anything else in the game. If you miss it, his entire character is pointless. It doesn't give agency to the player, it removes agency from the character and puts it in the hands of the player, who might miss it.
It's like buying a powertool and then never using it because the one problem it could solve got solved another way. Wow, the homeowner solved the problem another way, and now that one powertool is gathering dust. What a great tool!

Finn is legitimately unpopular even if I like him that's something that I have to accept. Genealogy characters in general are not popular in the West who LARPs as having played the games, so they latch onto Sigurd or Leif or Reinhardt or Ayra whose popularity was derived of incidents within Heroes. Finn doesn't have that. Japs have several more characters they would vote for over Finn. Most everyone wouldn't even roll for Finn. Most everyone wouldn't even build Finn having been given him for free.

Exploring the characters via gameplay and optional side content is overall better for games but the story structure doesn't always allow this, i don't like it when a game over explains thing but given the general audience it seems necessary, also alot of engage characters have simpler reasons for joining Alear so it's pretty hard for their motives to not overlap meaning they don't lose much agency compared to 3h characters it isn't like Diamant's entire reason for joining Alear vanishes when he doesn't get to fight his dad.

Yeah, which was why 3H has the most popular cast. Every character got a paralogue, they had unique dialogue for various activities with eachother, and they had a ton of paired endings. It explores how they fit into and interact with their world.

NTA but the problem is that his character doesn't really have agency in the main story after Morion and the paralogues don't do much for him. For a character to feel like a character, constant change is necessary, you know how they could have improved this? Having Diamant and Alcryst get unique dialogue with Hyacinth, both when they fight him at the cathedral and when they fight him at the port. I would have LOVED if they had more aggressive, antagonistic dialogue at the Cathedral and when facing him at the port they made it more melancholic after understanding his situation through Ivy and Hortensia. That's good story through gameplay execution. Having unique lines against Sombron would have been sweet too.

I also think that's why they don't like engage characters, alot of them make sense given context but alot of people seem to have trouble with context if it isn't pointed out to them so if they give a bad first impression they won't bother and since they are abit over the top they can't project their beliefs either, and alot of people that criticize engage do seem to completely ignore context.

The community is dead and Engage's recency bias has well and truly soured due to overspam and low popularity, so people have started to look back on the 3H era fondly again.
As flawed as it was there was actually an active community and people excited for new games and FEH content. Nowadays people see the mainlines as dead and do nothing but complain about the gacha.

This, people forget what a joke 3H was after the first trailer. 3H's popularity snowballed over time. Even its first FEH banner didn't do that well. It started with low hype, then cautious optimism after the timeskip trailer, and then in the weeks following release it just exploded and within a year it had already sold 3 million copies.
It basically had the opposite trajectory of Engage where people were interested in it at first, very interested in fact based on its pre-release FEH banner (which is still its best performing FEH banner btw and is now unlikely to be topped because of Book 8 Decline), and then immediately after launch it crashed. Reception started to sour almost immediately. Hype was dead by April. People were holding on hope that CYL8 would prove that it was actually popular despite weak banner performances, that fell apart, then Book 8 had ever more disasters, then CYL9 made it look like a joke, and here we are now.
At this point nobody sincerely thinks it was popular.

Engage went from 88,370 to 53,310 despite getting no winners. It lost more votes than 3H and for no reason other than its cast getting less popular across the board. 9 of the 10 characters with the heaviest vote declines were Engage characters.

This is the logic I'm going to assume they're using.
If I had to guess?
Emblem Roy because FE6 won't get a NH banner for a long time.
Mythic Sombron because IS can't help themselves but know from Veyle excitement for Engage mythics is essentially zero.
Legendary Lysithea because its been two years without an alt, she's extremely popular in Japan and the presence of 3H will boost the US rank since they don't roll for Engage characters - also they're probably saving Ivy for December 2025.
