It's almost like the game is close to EOS so engage units cant be dripfed and must be spammed at a faster rate or they won't get into the game at all.

Anon, I would kind of understand if this also counted seasonals.
But these are JUST the New Heroes units. I don't think any game has finished its NH roster yet, but Engage is almost done despite being the newest.
If I remove the units with seasonals, then we remove Clanne, Framme, Goldmary, Seadall, and Anna. Only 11 units left!

The game would unironically be alive for longer if they didn't spam Engage though. The years with the lowest levels of decline have been the years where 3H got the most content. Any year where 3H got 15 or less units has seen huge decline.

The skin shading is almost entirely a flat airbrush tool with one singular color. The eyes aren't shiny at all and lack depth, it's very dull. Genuinely reminds me of the stuff Colorfag would do here, rather than a modern FEH unit.
Compare it to his recent Merrin. Multiple shades on her skin, even blue. Deep and shiny eyes with strong contrast.
This Mae is from before any other alt Tantan has done for FEH, so 2021 at the absolute latest. But probably 2017.

I feel depressed about this franchise, I really wish FE would try and take it's writing to the next level while keeping the gameplay integrated in the narrative.

Agreed, we don't need some masterpiece of fiction. We just need a decent setup for the exciting battle scenarios playing out. Samurais fighting evil empire where Takumi drains the moat and whatnot. FE5's narrative isn't that good, and I went through it quite recently. To it's biggest detriment being a side-story of Genealogy nothing really gets a big resolution and they just go "yeah there's also all of these unsolved threats that will get resolved in Genealogy so the fight goes on"

I think the storytelling worked pretty well overall until FE10. The main problem with Engage is that it has ideas for the overall storytelling and what each scene is supposed to do, but then don't care about the specific execution. So many things are hardly explained in any way and really hard to believe. Like how the rings change hands or how the four hounds escape after every single confrontation. It simply doesn't work with a strategy game series where battles between two armies are simulated.
Antagonists in old games being able to teleport to get away is already egregious, but at least it's way better than "and then he just kinda ran away lmao".

I think the MCs force them to drop it, like "forfeit the goods and we'll let you go." Kinda deal. At least from the first encounter with Hortensia that's kind of how I understood the gist of it. But yeah Engage's narrative isn't super great. Honestly the efforts it does to have gameplay integrated into story sometimes fall short, but it's better than nothing at all I suppose. Most FE games barely acknowledge the gimmicks they have as far as story goes (Three Houses at some point drops the rewind entirely, the turnwheel plays no role in Echoes, enemies that teleport away like Manfroy don't have anything in their inventories that allow them to actually do that, etc)
Thracia probably had the better "gameplay inbued into the narrative" story so far.

Then the actual battle gameplay is fine, like when the rings are stolen in Engage there is a battle where everyone has to escape. But it has no fucking clue how to execute on even a basic level the story. It's all adhoc shit, people die out of nowhere by appearing out of nowhere to block attacks out of nowhere. How do they get out of the monastery? Nobody fucking knows, it all just happens as it happens. It's like a kids writing.

Honestly playing Three Hopes again the Claude betrayal version of Edelgard's route makes more sense even if it's supposed to be the "bad" ending.

Three Hopes' biggest and dumbest writing flaw is why Claude sides with Edelgard at all because in both routes where he does it, it just destroys his only possible ally and makes power gap between the Empire and the Alliance even bigger.

Engage was unpopular, didn't really have a fanbase, and its few fans were extremely toxic and constantly lashed out at other games, killing FE communities.
FEH has been on a downwards trajectory since 2019 that only really froze for like a two year period in 2020-2021 and has resumed even more aggressively since Engage came out.
No new game in sight. People have lost hope. Also at this point a new game even with 3H levels of popularity wouldn't actually change the fact FEH only has a few years left. Even the years where we got a shit ton of 3H content forcing decline to a halt didn't change the fact it was still declining, it didn't ever increase revenue.

How would you improve the apparent demand for more male seasonals without completely taking the focus away from waifus and upsetting waifufags? I looked across the replies here and on twitter and elsewhere and everybody seems confused. They keep flooding seasonal banners with unpopular dev favourite girls so to make it sell at all they basically can't put a male character on the banner.

If they had put a banner carry on the banner it wouldn't be an issue but they were determined to make sure Veyle gets an alt every 6 months so once again she's headlining a banner despite tanking every banner she's ever been on.

When a banner is a bunch of mid-tier shitters like Veyle, Eitr and Mae, you can no longer afford to waste that 4th slot on a male people won't roll for. If they had put Ivy, Femleth, Hilda, Eirika, Lysithea, Marianne, FCorrin, Micaiah, Lyn, Celica, Dorothea - literally any female character who has won CYL or places in top 20 - on the banner this wouldn't be a problem. But ever since Book 8 they've been shitting out seasonal line-ups with no banner carry. It's why on average seasonal banners have started doing WORSE than New Heroes banners. At least NH feature banner carries as asset units. Seasonals have become nothing but slop line-ups.

This banner has the exact same problem last year's Fallen did (the first ever Fallen banner to flop - it wasn't even thought possible) - you look at this line-up and you think "okay, so who the fuck is supposed to be carrying this banner?"

I can excuse Mae getting a pity alt after 8 years but Veyle and Eitr are not only unpopular but also have modern units as well. There is literally no reason for them to be on this banner other than the devs having them as personal favorites. Plumeria is also basically irrelevant these days so its just like most seasonal banners from Book 8, it's a line-up where you look at it and can't figure out who IS thought people would be rolling for.

I think Reopening was originally a prf B skill that got changed to an inheritable at the last minute. Naming wise, it sounds like a skill related to Alfonse's character, and Lif actually has two prf skills: Deadly Balance, and Open the Future. So Alfonse having two prf skills to parallel Lif isn't unusual. Reopening and Makings of a King sound like prf skills for a Brave Alfonse.
But when they changed it, they just took the Guard skill icon, and threw a few sparkles on it. Very low effort. And because it was originally a prf skill, they probably only playtested it on Alfonse. I don't even remember what caused the crash, but it was so specific to Panette.
We've had bugs where a skill didn't work on a unit, but those cases were always the unit that had them to begin with. I have no recollection of a skill inherited to a unit and it doesn't work or it crashes the game.
