It's cool. Some of the more wide open parts of the maps definitely need flavor or maybe extra encounters, but it's a solid custom Halo campaign. The 3rd mission has a really high likelihood of bugging out though. Still better than the entirety of 4.

i played through new covenant today. after 20 years of bad mods for halo 1 and half life 2, can i still call it bad? it's just average quality for a mod campaign. I didn't get lost and the levels are about 90 minutes each, but it still feels like its made by a 15 year old. Why did the Covenant bother to invade New Alexandria in the morning if by night they land capital ships in atmosphere and start glassing the city? Doesn't that mean all Covenant ground forces were on a suicide mission? What does such a daring suicide mission even accomplish?

That is not the reason the vast majority of things are cut from any video game. Crack a book. There are deadlines and limitations.
Obviously you don't want things to pendulum swing all the way to something like SPV3 where there's no restraint at all, but the idea that most things that get cut do so because the devs thought they were "retarded" is simply not based in reality.

Halo CE, 2, 3, and Reach were also praised, but MCC has less players than even Infinite does. I wasn't talking about population, I was talking about general consensus on the quality of the product. I get you're just mad at getting dog piled onbut if you actually went into stores at the time you'd know that the shelving for bundles was in the single digits more often than not while the CD cases could have dozens or more in stock. A store selling 2 boxes a day was good moving units, where as cases would go in greater quantity.

If you go back to the early/mid 2000s flash player days of the internet, a lot of the content gave nods to both series, often at the same time.
This is however NOT to say that most halo fans are sonicfags or visa versa. It's just that there's more crossover than you would expect from 2 wildly different ips.

Just read through the Guitar Hero convo from earlier and this side of it has it correct.
I was close with that series at the time and there actually wasn't ever really strong franchise fatigue, it was more of a cowboys/Indians fiasco and eventually one side had to give. GH sold well despite numerous releases but with every RB release (excluding 4) there was noticeable consolidation of the genre behind that ip until eventually GH was no more.

The H5 and Infinite stories were crap. No Co-op PVE modes for Infinite (Firefight/Spartan Ops). Spartan Ops was a fresh new way to do Co-op, so I love Halo 4 for that, but what I think really sets Reach apart is the way it gave you your own “identity” as a Spartan. Your customized Spartan carried over into the campaign, and firefight modes, so you weren’t playing as the chief or another external character, it felt more like what it’d be like for YOU to be a Spartan. That, and the campaign story was one of the most compelling and relatable stories in the series! You connected with Noble, you were gut-punched when one by one they gave their lives. I love the progression systems of newer games, but I find myself always returning to Reach (thank GOD they finally added it to MCC) because of all of these things combined, which 343 has yet to replicate in 13 years. Also, that version of MJOLNIR was just effin COOL!

Thoughts? Spears on this take?

To me, Halo CE had the best gameplay balance in the campaign. Good story, not the best but solid.

Halo 2, to me, really had the better story overall. It was nice to see the covenant side of things. You have to remember they're a radical religious group controlled by people who kill anyone who question them- Hence the lack of questioning/stepping out of line.

Halo 3 had a great balance of gameplay and story. The gameplay wasn't quite as good as CE, but was far better than Halo 2's. The story was maybe a slight step down from Halo 2's but was still a really fitting ending to the trilogy.

ODST had a great campaign and gameplay like Halo 3.

Reach had a good story but I didn't like how the maps were recycled for everything. And gameplay in campaign and multiplayer had some issuescougharmor lockcough

Halo 4 aged well in terms of story. Gameplay had some issues mostly with ammo capacity for weapons.

Halo 5 ... Well. ... Halo 5 exists.

Halo Wars 1/2 are fun if you enjoy RTS games and have really good cutscenes/stories.

It's not at all a bad take to say it should have ended with s5.
6 head an admittedly really really good cliffhanger that tricked people into thinking the season as a whole was better than it was.
7 was completely forgettable and feels like filler in retrospect.
8 is widely known as the start of Monty's contribution to the show, mainly for having crazy out of wack action sequences that maybe to the teenage underdeveloped brain seemed amazing but in reality completely broke from the soulful style of the originla show, that being that it was (mostly) done by people just playing Halo. Still, it somehow managed to have a very heartfelt and satisfying ending, so if they had ended it there, I could have overlooked all the flaws and forgiven it.
Do not let anyone ever tell you season 9 and onwards is worth watching. None of them. Zip. Zero. No. Nien. Nada. It goes completely off the walls with retarded GO GO POWER RANGERS action shit and becomes heavily lore obsessed.
So yeah it probably should have just stopped with 5.

Just finished HALO: NEW COVENANT

Mission 1 was awesome.
Mission 2, the outdoor section wasn't great, but the twist with the cave was really cool, felt very bungie. Mission 3 was also really great, a really great flood depiction, the attention to detail to give the combat forms new models since they're just combat forms invented by the gravemind and not recently infected humans or covenant is really cool. The "ancient weapon" is pretty meh and overpowered, feels like a placeholder until weapon drops on the latter half of the level are more finalized. Boss fight was extremely cool

Also the cinematics are pro level. I do wish AI was socially acceptable to use for voice acting for mods, because it's just flat out better than fan voice acting.

overall 10/10 excited for mission 4

In fairness, there are no "good" publishers with the purse to fund projects of their ambition level.
Ubisoft and EA would be just as bad if not worse.
Take Two might work but is super adverse to promoting PC releases and that seems to be a priority for Bungie after the Halo era.
