I think KOF should return to try Shinkiro-esque realism with XVI just to have it stand out a little from Fatal Fury and XV. But also I'll probably miss exaggerated proportions like Shermie or Ralf/Clark. But I won't miss exaggerated proportions on Ryo, King or Leona

Solution is to bring the bimbos into CotW and go back to slimming down characters in XVI so we can have a mix of both styles that don't detract from one-another

I think it's safe to say it already has been well-received, and I think it definitely wouldn't be a bad idea to continue to iterate and improve on the cell-shaded artstyle. snk has been struggling to find a look that the general masses find appealing for years after transitioning to 3D, I think it would be a shame to move on from their first successful shot after only one game.

I think people underestimate how fucking cooked SNK was when they were bought out by Aruze. They were actually managing success with the Neo Geo Pocket but that thing was completely shitcanned before the GBA even came out

And SNK's business strategy post-revival was... Focus on fighting games. In an era when nobody was playing fighting games

after a successful cotw launch we have to pressure snk into adding crossplay to ss2019 and relaunching the game with a definitive version with all dlc for cheap, that is the last chance the game would have, crossplay makes a lot of difference for games with >200 players

I think the verdict is that cotw is motw's mechanics + sf6 pacing/systems, so yeah, sf6 terry should give you correct tempo of the game
but playing the cracked beta is probably even better

It's not just speed. everything from impact to animations (which does actually affect the feel of the game) are better.

samurai shodown 2019 is slow and still feels smooth if you want to talk new fighters.

Best general KOF. If you want retro, there's retro but the game really blows most KOFs out of the water without even trying. KOF isn't really a consistently strong series, most people's favorite games are the noncanon Dream Matches thanks to their rosters or the ones with unique game mechanics like XIII. Unfortunately XV is still missing Duck King so it'll never beat XI

One of the best all-around titles in the series and deserves to sit among the greats like '98 and '02 (and XIII if you're into that). Not too simple, not too complex, very strong roster (especially for a non-Dream Match), makes KOFXIV feel like a beta in comparison. If you mean SFIV, his results weren't consistent enough for him to garner that much clout, and he got most of his fame through KOF rather than Street Fighter anyways back then.

I still do not think Geese will be playable, but it's worth noting in FF3 the theme switches for the first and second round, and bosses in KOFXV do a similar thing.
Also, Onions Sauce Flavor isn't on the track list in-game, and Last Nightmare is attached as the stage track for Geese Tower(there is a Dark Geese Tower with Fallen Rock's theme).

My biggest reason for Jae being in the base roster is that it logically doesn't make any sense to cut him. He's a staple Fatal Fury function, he's popular, he's one of the last MotW characters not in the game and his brother is in the game already and they're usually seen as a package deal. The additional suggestion to this is that Jae's trailer has him on Rock's stage whereas almost every other character's trailer has had them on their own stage(Hotaru is the other exception and my guess would be hers just wasn't ready at the time), so it's very possible that the twins simply do not have their own stages

RBS got the same sprites as RB2 and, actually, better presentation. Not being a rushed out half-finished game helps.

There's no reason to. On FightCade, the Perfect ROM has both sound bugs and has censored fatalities. There’s also little reason to take NGC online, as the netcode is markedly worse than FightCade's, and you have to pay for it.

Ringouts are RB1 thing. RBS does a different thing where breaking a wall just puts opponent into dizzy.
By a better game system, I mean RB2's lanes implementation. One main lane + one side lane is the most streamlined and fun version in my opinion.
By the way, RBS got two main lanes. RB1 got a main lane and two side lanes.

More in CotW deviated from MotW than I expected, but I do like that it retains the core of a thick neutral game that culminates in somebody getting in and then it's like someone threw the match in the box of fireworks. The longer combos definitely take adjustment, but I'm really wondering how things like rev accel are going to play into rev fill/guard break sequences. Combining +OB EX moves with heavies and feints back into more chained EX moves sounds like it'd be really strong on somebody's defense, in theory.

learn your low confirms, and in vanilla 98 especially you want the timing down
learn your best air-to-airs and how to use them in hopsies
learn jump cd pressure and abuse it, especially with orochi chris
depending on the character, stand cds are actually really good for pressure and to stand your ground. learn to use them too
learn to space yourself in the corner to catch rolls and continue pressure
just don't stay on the ground, try to anti-air or try to play grounded footsies. this isn't street fighter. also most reversals suck, so most of the time, don't use them
assuming you're american or live in europe, ideally find a friend or someone close to play with so you don't always have to fight foreign strangers

I still think Samsho7 is the best product from nuSNK. COTW artstyle feels weird with the lightning on the characters not matching the stages at all and the character models looks weird from time to time. A friend pointed how Rock's leg looks like a sausage when he's KO on the ground. KOFXV has the effects looking like fanta. I really don't know how XIV has better effects than XV.
Visually, Samsho mogs both games. In soundtrack, I really like the remixes and new versions of the old themes in KOFXV but I just can't remember the new ones that kind felt kinda bland. COTW looks better so far even though most of the OST released are also new versions of old themes.
It was just really a shame how the AI stuff doesn't work and they never bothered to fix it and the game really released without crossplay and with pretty bad online. I really wish I could get more than one or two friends to play with from time to time.

The only real problems with COTW beta was that should be dealt with is obviously the matchmaking, loading times(such as in-between rounds), and the shitty negative-edge menus. Also not being able to use a keyboard for some reason that I can't really understand. But I don't really know how long all that will take to fix/adjust by the time of a 2nd beta. Especially since the game is supposed to be releasing next month.

Been saying that for a while. Chink money is completely fucking worthless. Right now the Ne Zha 2 guerilla marketing situation happening is really only so significant because it's bullying a medium of film that has never actually bothered to try and promote itself beyond its medium's audience. SFIV didn't need competition it needed to be what it was. The time frame of SFIV-Super was literally the best time to be a Street Fighter fan since 1994 so there was no real competition outside of maybe MK9 which came out years later after SFIV established what the landscape was going to be going forward

As for SFV, there was no way Fatal Fury could've done it with SNK's budget at the time. If it were a 3D game like it is now with XII/XIII's budget, it would've popped off but that's like saying "if Sonic had 06's budget and Generations' gameplay it would've btfo of Mario" like of course the best case scenario would be a success but realistically it was never possible to begin with. Honestly I'm starting to think that they were possibly swapped around with maybe Andy and Joe at some point. Those two were on one of the first posters SNK put out for the game, there was no Dong Hwan (or Jae Hoon) soundbite in the reveal trailer despite almost every other character in the game having one and Dong looked kinda unfinished in his trailer and had really obvious model clipping in the press release screenshots, so if those two genuinely don't have stages (which it looks like they won't) then I think they were probably some of the last to be added to the game (could also explain why there's just nothing in the beta files for Jae of all characters).

1. Multiple winquotes from other characters pointing to his inclusion, Terry outright names him
2. Complete omission from the text strings in the files, which seem to have been deliberately scrubbed of the last two unknown launch characters. EOST has unlockable "secrets" for a ton of characters. Unplayable characters like Grant, Freeman and(likely unplayable)Geese have only 1, whereas all of the known playable characters have 3 to 5. Jae Hoon has ZERO, suggesting he has more and they scrubbed them out.
3. KOFXV's omission of Kaphwan and the ensuing backlash likely proved to SNK that Kim needs to either be base roster or first wave of DLC for future games, and if they were gonna launch with only one Kim, including the one that DOESN'T play like his dad would be a baffling choice, even if SNK is known for their infinite stupidity.
All this combined leads me to believe that Jae Hoon has an extremely good chance of being one of the last two base roster characters.

It doesn't matter how good/fun the gameplay of COTW is. Like KOF 14/15, everything outside of the gameplay looks and feels old-school, in all the worse ways. And all that matters way more than how it plays in current generation FGs. If the beta is any indication which it 98% likely is seeing as we're under 2 months away, it's less snappy than others(most especially SF6), same problems from their last products like broken online, lots of loading when there shouldn't be any, archaic decisions like not being able to use a keyboard for gameplay and not being able to use a mouse even though there's a pointer-cursor in the lobby/room menu, friend codes in 2025, and more. It's like SNK doesn't know of nor play any other modern FG(or just game in-general really) not theirs. They develop theirs like it's still 2008.

K' is relatively high execution (with very high reward) so get used to TKing 214KK after anything that juggles high enough
Kyo has some execution barriers if you wanna optimize him (i.e. double bodyga for max meterless) but not as many, so go ahead and bodyga all you want
Can't speak much for Krohnen, personally but he requires some work too

I think PSX roster is actually in a good place already, but adding Tung, Hwa and/or Richard would be neat.
Rather than that I'd focus on polishing gameplay and graphics, leaving enlargening of the roster for the "remake" of the far more popular second game.

Forget I asked, I made some progress today figuring out the timing. I'm going to tackle this on my own tomorrow.

I'm starting to see fighting games has as much of a journey as open world games since mastering dumb moves like this will take as many hours as walking through an open world game doing mindless quests. Its a martial arts journey.

They're hard confirmed for the future EVOs and various showcases for the rest of the year there's no time for the game to be delayed and the essentials (all offline content) have been done months ago according to Oda. Really it's just the online that clearly needs work so faggots crying the online doesn't work literally missed the point of the OBT being a stress test
