Also the Halo 5 part is unordered, all I know is that it was bad enough that I never wanted to play it again after beating it on Legendary (outside of mission 2 which I liked and is in B tier). And that I still dislike Cortana even more (which may be colored by the fact that I actually replay that mission a bunch of times)

Halo had a good run, I think the best thing is to put it on ice for 5 to 7 to 10 years then reboot it with a new game. The problem is, is that they built so much around Master Chief in the first 3 games that really this is a whole franchise that is a dead man walking. I don't think fans would want to play a reboot that didn't feature Master Chief.

Abandoning MC would look like running from their 10+ years of fumbling at this point
They simply have yet to prove they can do a proper Halo and if you can't even do it right with simple, straightforward MC you're either gonna flop with anyone more complex or get called out for putting effort into your OC instead of making things right
Of course if everything else about the reboot was spot on it would do well, but people would still be kinda disappointed in the devs for ignoring a beloved element like MC

I like the idea of the Carbine, but Bungie always had to kneecap it in some way. If it had better accuracy or damage in Halo 3, it would be a worthwhile sidegrade in the same way the NR is in TU Reach.

--Banished overtaken by the largely Brute faction who truly learned to harness Forerunner tech (forced to for survival)
--have the Banished work together with said faction while Atriox schemes to prove he ought to lead them

Would require more thinking more about which direction is most fun. That and actually have a realistic grasp on what Microsoft can manage to pull together as far as a team for enemy NPC behaviors.
I dare say that good Halo is not hard to think up if you had months to write a plot, years to tweak and actually examined the highs and lows of 2001-2011. You're creating a fun war in space/series of battles, during which you uncover the details of a Forerunner Installation or two, and prevent aliens from using it against the UNSC/galaxy.
343 always had the wrong priorities leading them: focus on vulnerability, sadness to the point of feeling defeated, drama between humans to the point of fighting each other, which dragged down what cool twists and turns there were to the series of battles.

IN THE CONTEXT OF HALO 2 ONLY: Is Truth sending Tartarus to active halo a plot hole, or does it actually make sense? I've thought about it in a few ways

1. Truth doesn't believe in the great journey (he talked to 343gs). Which means either his plan makes no sense, or he thought the Ark (back when it was on earth) would shield him. However that still seems very risky.

2. Truth does believe, and he wins either way. Either Tarturus activates Halo and starts the great journey there, or Truth does it at the ark. Makes the most sense, but kind of lame.

Any other scenario doesn't make any sense to me.

2 has good 4v4/competitive, especially due to the maps. But it gets beat out in other aspects by the other Halos. For instance, 3's BTB is much better due to the more varied sandbox of weapons, vehicles, and physics interactions. CE has a tighter arena experience, but can also be wackier and more casual due to the wonky, less polished physics.

The problem with the splaser is that it completely shuts down vehicles. The counterplay is very limited, and it just makes the games either boring or stomps. In btb also there's very few maps with one sniper, but there's tons with one splaser.

The sniper is arguably the most powerful weapon in the game(objectively the best weapon in 1 & 2), but it's also difficult to use to balance out its potential power. The laser isn't hard at all. Even the rocket launcher has a very slow projectile to balance it out at longer ranges.

It's funny too because every BTB mode has far bigger problems. In 3 for example Vehicles having literally infinite health as long as you keep your shield up is fucking retarded. I've seen a player stay in a banshee all game because my teammates are too retarded to target it enough. At least in other games it will eventually die. That's not to say other games don't have their own issue (lmao they actually let people spawn with stickies and plasmas)

It's one of the best holding position on the map. You got Shotguns and a Regenerator right next to you.
You got two caves with a BR in them if you need to scuttle away and pick up some ammo.

The outside perimeter is often used in objective gametypes to sneak in behind a base or by crafty snipers who want a a decent view of the entire map.

There was a huge, super forced campaign about how they, long time fans (they weren't) were "coming home", and then they all got their nostalgia scratch and left because they didn't really care.
Since then there has been like 20 different cope excuses why.

Halo 2 would legitimately be the worst Halo game if the maps weren't top tier and button glitches didn't exist and its gunplay sans glitches is the actual worst
The guns feel terrible to shoot. There's barely any recoil on the animations for any of them. The shield damage indicators are horrible compared to the rest of the series, they basically flare up for one second and then disappear. You don't have visual feedback about the individual hits you make on an enemy
Movement is bog standard and the amount of overwhelming bullet magnetism and auto aim (by far the worst in the entire series except maybe Halo 4) makes regular strafe battles unbelievably boring
Pairing all of that with red reticule hitscan (which is not a myth- the popular "Halo 2 isn't actually hitscan!!!" video doesn't test values in RR. Bungie themselves admitted H2 is hitscan https://halo.bungie.org/bwu/index.html?item=182)

The button glitches give a lot of depth to the guns which is the game's saving grace and main skill gap source
There is more depth to a single mid range BR duel in Halo 3 than there would be an entire match of Halo 2 if it wasn't for the map quality and button glitches
I kid you not even vanilla Reach's gunplay has more depth than glitchless Halo 2. It's definitely less consistent but it's more satisfying to bring someone down using the Reach DMR than it is just dumping a 4SK in the general area of someone's head in Halo 2
CE = 3 > ODST > Reach > 2 unironically

One of my big problems with the 343 era is how powerful the weapons have become, and what ramifications they have for the lore when you stop to think about it for a minute.
Guns like the SAW and Storm Rifle absolutely destroy Spartans like it's nothing.
And that's not even getting into the Req variants, which are also canon.
ONI has Hannibal tech that cuts through mjolnir like blades of grass and the Covenant has plasma pistols and snipers that create singularities and black holes.

Campaign and Spartan Ops maps were made by 343i.

Brutes are worse because there's no way to physically "fuck them" due to the difference in mass. Yes, Elites are large, but are much leaner in muscle when the armor is off. There's no way for anybody to actually even "handle" a Brute. You would have to incompacitate them of be essentially masturbating in a dead one

It has good jumping and that's the extent of the praise. Halo isn't a movement shooter nor should it be. It's fine right where it is. Agreed. The starkest difference is the shotgun. The Halo 2 shotgun may be the least satisfying one since Doom 3, especially with its shitty view model. Even with the MCC view model customization it's unsalvageable.

I wasn't even 8 and I loved Halo 3, it was a good game that only turbo autists complained about. The culture at the time was completely different, it was competitive in the recreational way, not the "I could make money out of this" way for most people. So most people would just vote for a handful of favorite maps, leave if one they didn't like came on and yeah...
