In college. Taking digital media design. But I wasn't into fnaf back then because I deemed it a silly jump scare game. Fast forward 9 years later, I try security breach because it has Roxy and fell in love with this franchise. Out of all the classic FNAF games, 3 is probably my favorite? Springtrap is just too cool. I'm convinced, the loli spammer is the guy reporting artfags since he never gets banned but on topic shit that's not loli gets banned/deleted. It's a bit odd that on topic non furry art or on topic furry art gets banned, but children in skimpy outfits, or outright getting raped by a zombie in a springlock suit stays up no matter how much you report it.

Does anyone else find it kind of annoying that FNAF, at least when it comes to the games, seems to rarely ever create original animatronics? Outside of SL, SB, and the FFPS catalogue, the only new animatronics introduced past the first game that aren't variants of previous ones (or variants of variants) are BB and the Puppet.

Sure, sometimes it makes sense to use different versions of the characters, like in FNAF 2 with the idea being that the bots were redesigned, and FNAF 4 being nightmares about the original gang, but come on, couldn't Mangle have been a wolf or something if she was already going to be so different from Foxy anyway? Did Springtrap really need to be a Bonnie? Did Funtime Freddy and Foxy really need to be a Freddy and a Foxy? It just feels really uninspired to re-use the same base characters over and over. For all the problems with the SW-era games, at least they've been adding more original characters with SB/Ruin and now SOTM.

The problem is that there are 2 factors as to why Scott stuck with the bear/bunny/chick/fox archetype which once you consider makes a lot of sense why from a creative point of view.

The first factor is that the games are chronolgically linked. The story is hinged on the progression of the pizzaria and its characters and one of the main ways scott illustrated the passage of time. By reusing and aging or making sleeker re-designs you can effectively tell the player where things stand. This logic completely falls apart when the SL animatronics look super advanced and futuristic, more than any other bots in the series besides maybe the Glamrocks, yet were made in the 80s, being some of the oldest ones in the timeline besides the Diner duo and the pre-withered four (and I guess now the Mimic and the other SOTM animatronics, including a giant walking Music Man... made in 1979.)

Things are already unclear and vague as shit in this franchise, including when some games take place, and it has nothing to do with how the characters look because there is zero technological consistency in the timeline.
If not for Phone Guy being alive and the check saying "1987", everyone would have unanimously thought 2 was a sequel because absolutely everything else, *especially* the animatronic designs, pointed to that.
If not for the words "Mr. Afton", everyone would have thought the Funtimes were made in 2050 or something when SL came out.
SOTM has the most clear timeline placement in the series along with FNAF 2 solely because we know for sure the year it takes place, before the game has even released, and it has no character variants that we've seen so far besides the giant Music Man and the Helpy terminal.

Springtrap is one of the most popular, iconic, and recognizable characters in the series and I seriously doubt him being an original animatronic rather than another version of Bonnie would have had any real impact on that.
Both Roxy and Vanny are also incredibly popular, being as big if not a bigger selling point and source of popularity for SB than Freddy, and they're both original. SB was the most popular FNAF game in ages and it only has 2 of the 4 original mascots (with Chica being the least popular main character in the game besides Monty).
Circus Baby is the main animatronic of SL and she's way more popular than Funtime Freddy, or most Freddy variants for that matter. I'd say Glamrock is the only one past FNAF 2 that's more popular than her.
Also, as an example from another mascot horror game, Poppy Playtime blew the fuck up more than ever before last year thanks to the completely new characters introduced 3 chapters in. Huggy Wuggy was the face of that game for years but now barely anyone thinks about him compared to the purple cat and orange dog.

You cannot tell me Ennard wasn't five times cooler and more recognizable than Molten Freddy, or that Lefty wouldn't have been way more popular if it wasn't literally just a recolored Rockstar Freddy, or that Ballora wasn't way more memorable in SL than if we just had Funtime Chica instead.

TL;DR: designs make no difference in showing the passage of time when technology in FNAF is very inconsistent, and some of the most popular characters in the series besides the original gang are either original or would have still been very popular even if they were original.

The literal second game in the series retcons the animatronics being 20 years old and the killer being convicted. The biggest retcons were in SL and FFPS which were about 9 years ago. Also, Scott doesn't write the story. It isn't trapped, it's just in the fancontent and fanverse now, the latter of which is *official* content, so "the series just isn't for you anymore" isn't true (TJOC's 30 minute demo was a better game than the entirety of SB btw)

But it didn't. We never had a date for when Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was created until Help Wanted, and even then for all we know the characters could very well predate it since they existed alongside Fredbear's, and that has existed since at least 1979.

There's not even that much stuff from the books in those games. It's just the killer's name, him being the co-founder and an old friend of the CEO, and the Puppet being the CEO's daughter. Those are far from the worst aspects of the 1-6 lore.

at some point somebody decided to make a discord for the better posters to escape to, and for like a year now its been going pretty smoothly with 30 members, its still fairly active to this day with almost no bitchfighting

ahahahaha, sorry if I don't believe that, no. /utg/ was already a celebfaggotry cesspit, moving to discord would only have made it a million times worse and cause all the gay anons (90% of them) to start dating each other and inevitably cause drama with each other as well as massively inflate the already huge egos of all the avatarfags.
But the actual bad part, is that they would bring it back to this thread by making "sneaky" references to their new discord in-jokes, because they can't just move on from this site. And they would start "spotting" each other via typing quirks and more avatarfagging and just in general be the most horrible nuisances ever.

I think this might be the worst content drought we've had in a while. At least in the past there were occasionally some cozy discussions. Yes.

Nope. We never see him use any weapon in the games, not even in the minigames where he's shown killing/attacking someone. He just stands next to Charlie until she dies in SAVEHIM and FNAF 3 just shows him destroying the animatronics with his bare fucking hands. The closest thing to a weapon we've seen him with is whatever he's holding in the SAVETHEM sprite. Literally the only reason people started giving him an axe was because of Die in a Fire.

Sadly I don't think the Mimic game is gonna do much either. We'll talk about it for maybe a month or two tops then it will be back to where we are now. The truth is that if not for how popular Security Breach was, this general would most likely have died a while ago, and I doubt there will ever be another game as big as it ever again.

I think why I don't mind the AI mimic stuff is because it feels more like the type of story Scott Cawthon wants to tell. Fnaf 1-4 felt like random bits of story thrown together, with Sister Location being when he actually locked in and tried to make it all into an actual story, but also when fnaf first started dipping its toes in sci fi. It feels like what we have now is something Scott is more interested in writing, and i'd rather the creator be doing something they want to do. I think in general I also enjoy that this story actually comes across as planned out when you actually follow it.

As for The Mimic, I like his whole deal as starting out as a child's robot friend with questionable sentience turning violent. The Mimic gets some cool kills in the book.

I watched that music video last night for the first time and it was great. Especially considering that video is almost ten years old. While Vanessa/Vanny is shown to not want to kill anyone, but she’s basically The Mimic/Glitchtrap’s hostage with him controlling her mind and soul. And it’s shown that she’s genuinely afraid of Glitchtrap in the therapy tapes in SB.

TLDR: William Afton kills children willingly while Vanessa/Vanny doesn’t. So William can’t be a Mimic proxy

I mean, say what you want about Security Breach, but it definitely freshened things up and there was plenty of meat on the bone for fan content and memes and jokes, and i feel like it was the last time FNaF had any sense of direction with its lore (not saying it actually had any but the energy was there)

I honestly cant see SOTM having any such similar rejuvenating effect. The Mimic and whatever the fuck "FallFest" is are like the only things that FNaF still has going for it lore-wise and for my money, they just aren't interesting enough. The lore side of things feels like its more about piecing together a contrived timeline rather than telling a story.
The fact that the lines between whats canon to the games and whats just bookshit are seemingly being actively blurred doesn't help things. granted, thats arguably been going on since sister location, but at least back then the concepts being explored in the books weren't so fucking all over the place and insane.

It just seems like right now the franchise has run out of places to go and is starting to eat itself out of starvation, doubling back on itself with retcon after retcon and trying to milk whatever the original trilogy still has left in it (like with the movie, The Week Before, Into The Pit, etc.).

wish i could say otherwise but until i have a reason to hope otherwise i think the series best days are well behind it, even including security breach. everything FNaF is trying to do to keep itself afloat these days is already being done miles better by other games like Poppy Playtime and unless it comes up with something thats a properly good mix of original and familiar, its fucking over. the fnaf has fallen. billions must get stuffed into a suit

SB not only was the series' first foray into one large, and direct story with obvious characters, it was the first foray into free-roam gameplay in a wide area. It had so much banking on it. While that was enough to catapult it into relative mainstream popularity, it also lead to the series gaining a permanent blotch because SB ended up sucking complete ass.

Truthfully I think it was all said and done when SB came out and was... the way it was.

Not really Mimic's fault, just sort of a symptom of the game setting. It's not in the 2030s with a LOT of lovable characters in its lineup who have AI and an excuse to be running their mouths the whole time, it's a slasher story with what seems to be a silent protagonist. SotM doesn't have a Glamrock Freddy or Roxy. With that said, it's possible Edwin or David or whoever else manages to earn some nice points, but the setting and story of the game just did not allow it to capture some of SB's thunder.

B. It's a prequel game that exists to explain the next antagonist before we get into the RUIN sequel.

This is also a HUGE hit to its popularity. SB was going into the future - showing us the next big step for FNAF after Help Wanted - while SotM is a quiet exploration of the past that, quite literally, would not exist if Mimic's backstory was not a book-only element. It is an exposition game, not one that forwards the plot or brings in a shitton of brand new elements.

With that said, I don't think this is new. SotM, I reckon, will be another "Help Wanted" situation. Pretty huge in the FNaF space and only reaching moderate popularity outside of it. I don't know if you remember but Help Wanted wasn't much of a nuke, in part to its silent protagonist and lack of larger implications or new settings. I wouldn't mind being proved wrong, though. There's a lot they could do with the setting and I'd love to see an interesting protagonist. Saw a theory that Mimic would be abducting the Crying Child to replace David and the real extraction mission is getting him back and I feel like something of that nature would be explosive for franchise attention.

NTA I think one of the biggest things thats missing from the equation right now are (in my personal opinion):

1: a fresh sense of location.

Lets be honest, one of the biggest things that makes a new FNaF game interesting aren't the lore developments or even characters, its the new enviroment.

Sure, SOTM is set in a "factory" we've never seen or heard of before (which may be part of the problem) but from what i can tell theres just not enough elaboration on that premise or anything that makes it feel uniquely FNaF, especially since there's no hint of the classic megaman-animal animatronic style or any familiar faces, which leads me to my next point

2: a new spin on the animatronics we know and love
i know this is autistic but honestly i feel like this series is getting lost in the sauce trying to shoehorn in a new plotline and characters and maybe a new plotline would work but without some variation on the characters that were this franchises entire brand it just feels utterly rootless and alien. It doesn't even have to be just a spin on the original FNAF 1 ensemble, in fact it shouldn't, they should do new spins on other characters and the variations that have essentially become characters in their own right, like mangle, roxy, pre-springtrap spring bonnie, etc.

Again, the series is getting way too lost in the sauce with trying to reinvent itself its totally fucking forgetting what makes it unique. First-Person Exploration and Puzzles are good, but PPT is already kicking ass at that, so the move here is finding a way to balance that out with the old formula of stationary security-cam defense that FNaF is known for. I know it got stale with the original saga but the series has swung way too fucking far in the other direction.

I wanna play as a fucking nobody minimum-wage night guard again, not michael aftons reanimated corpse, not some kid, not a vr tester, not someone with a pre-existing connection to the lore. i miss that sense of the protagonist being an audience-surrogate whos just stumbling into this world of mysterious and dubious goings-on for the paycheck. that was a fun asymmetry to the games context and framing.

4: bring back the paranormal aspect

one of the things that sets FNaF apart from Poppy Playtime and other games in it's vein, one of the few things it can do that other series won't, is actually make use of its weird, unique mix of paranormal and sci-fi, instead of just going full sci-fi. I say get real weird with it, go hard into that esoteric schizo soul-alchemy science stuff that sister location scratched the surface of. Maybe make a whole new villain out of it, somebody whos got motivations and backstory instead of just being an AI that apeshit and now lives for carnage

The big problem with modern FNAF is that it seems the hacks at Steel Wool and, let's be honest, Scott Cawthon, he clearly still pulls the strings don't seem to understand what people (don't) like about FNAF. If everybody was tired of William Afton and nobody was interested William Afton but a program and William Afton with tits why would they be excited for William Afton but a robot? This isn't some secret psyop. Scott is very public about the fact that he writes the stories. Scott specifically wrote out the last Afton element by squashing Glitchtrap. As for straightforward stories... I think that's what we're getting, no? SotM is a big loredump and we're getting a bunch of lore material to fill in all the gaps now over the next year.

Agreed. I think he needed like one or more game where he's getting serious action and story relevance ala FNAF 3.
Having him only show up as an optional encounter who you barely see in PS and SB isn't gonna do much for him as a character. If he was like the FNAF equivalent to Malenia and was an insanely difficult and memorable secret boss encounter it wouldn't be as bad, but still, it being ten years since his last major role in a game is weird.

Sister Location needed a sequel; that much is obvious. It introduced actual voiced characters and gave previous characters more depth (whether that's a good thing for a certain one, I'll leave to you) only for it all to get burned away the very next time we see them (or don't see them, cause the interesting story developments and changes happened off-screen)

Afton needed an entire night section (ala N. Fredbear in Fnaf 4) where you and him face off one more time, father and son. Since he could talk, maybe have some way of getting him and Micheal to communicate over the course of the game since there's some obvious tension to their relationship.

It always struck me as funny how FFPS included Henry, Charlie, the MCI, the Funtimes, Elizabeth William, Michael, and maybe even Mrs. Afton (in a minigame) but CC never shows up despite being the protagonist of at least the FNAF 4 minigames.

The child killer is an integral part of the story. The character of William Afton, the scientist/wizard that's behind every single plot point isn't. Had his story ended in part 3 it wouldn't have really mattered because the big damage is the haunted animatronic parts and so long as the cheapskates at Fazbear Entertainment keep recycling them, there will be still be killer robots. He could easily be replaced by a metaphorical copycat killer instead of literal ones. If anything, he has done more damage to the franchise than good, since his existence demands the removal of a realistic setting and of the attention towards the animatronics.

It always bugged me how the animatronics worked so well as villains in the first game and then everything after that (even the movie), downplays them. Ideally FNAF would've had more than just Freddy, William, and the Mimic as main villains.

All in all, nobody can deny that SteelWool and Scott both betrayed FNAF for an ounce of that limp useless dick of Sony. It's the equivalent of a young woman sleeping with an elderly man because he's rich.

They completely shot themselves in the foot once they made the first VR game. Both of them were flops because VR is already a niche market that's dying, and because the majority of FNAF fans and normal people will never invest in an expensive console and a headset just to play the newest FNAF game (keep in mind FNAF isn't that hip anymore so it's two birds with one stone lol). FNAF should have taken the example of Pokemon. Both are cheap and simple popular games for the most part with lots of colorful and marketable characters. Pokemon's games are still simple to this day unlike FNAF that lately has a habit of always biting more than it could chew.

Scott said the FNAF World situation humbled him, that he learned a lesson. Apparently he didn't learn shit because after UCN he went back to square-one and is repeating the same mistakes again. The only difference now is that he has a lot of money and 2 wives he begged a judge to not pay child support for. FNAF is doomed to fail. It's doomed to be an embarrassment.

A terrible example, Pokémon used to good but they made cheaply made slop because a loyal fanbase of nostalgiafags, kids, furries and lolifags would buy it anyway. See Sword and Shield.

Bruh, Pokémon went down the shitter because they got lazy and kept tailoring to their old fanbase. Fans are actually begging for the fun spinoffs we got in the mid 2000s.

Factually untrue. If you even tried paying attention when Help Wanted first came out, people who never even touched the series played and streamed it because it was sort of a phenomenon. "The Hit indie franchise, formerly hailed as the beset horror titles - now on a VR headset", not only that, but backed by Sony. You had THOUSANDS of compilations and videos of people playing it and shitting bricks. And it wasn't some cheap fnaf 1 remake, it was an entire game and then some, so everyone from people who played it for the "virality" to the lore obsessed maniac fans had lots to chew on.
Granted, Help Wanted 2 kinda took away the uniqueness, and so will SoTM.
I think the VR shtick was lightning in a bottle, and Steel Wool now use it as a shield, because their flagship non-VR game was probably the messiest game launch in history since Sonic 06, and the DLC only slightly improved it, but it was still uninventive lorebait.
