Pixel Remaster FFVI soundtrack, yay or nay?

No.515923626 ViewReplyOriginalReport
I can't decide if the Pixel Remasters are good or not... on the one hand they are not the original... on the other hand they are Nobuo certified and they sound really good.
I think they're quite good. What do you think?
I played FFVI first time almost 30 years ago (30th anniversary is April 2 according to Wikipedia) it's my favorite JRPG, the one I have played the most, the best soundtrack, the best story as barebones as it is. Easily the most important work of fiction for me at that time, since I was a child. As an adult I'm fascinated by the American port and translation, and all the problems it had. Such a weird and iconic game. A work of art.

it's honestly really good... Opera should have had better generic, choral sound and no sung lyrics. It's was an instrumental piece in the original, and so it should remain. Putting real voices in there feels like it's blurring the lines. This game has no spoken dialogue; just one iconic laugh.
I just don't know. I'm a purist, but it's the most "faithful" arrangement of the original soundtrack. It's Nobuo for fuck's sake.
General FFVI nostalgia thread.
Feel free also to talk about the FFVI Brave New World romhack, my personal definitive version of the game. I have yet to beat Atma Weapon, so challenging it is. Getting to the WoR will feel like an achievement.
