But most of the times it's also how well the character card is written: I can tell from experience that most cards are poorly written, and catering more to coom value (ugh...) and common memes. I don't interact with any card that isn't made by myself because I know that, whenever I write a character card, whether it's an OC or an existing character, I'm very meticulous because I want the character to be as authentic as possible.
