My final thoughts on Fatal Fury 7, fun game. Lot of neutral and hoping when you get over the short cut and do it manually(takes some time to get it consistent).
Considering I played garou on 360 and just use the shota and Marco, mai is pretty ok in this. With chun li probably having her sf6 shit with no drive rush, I can safely say I’ll pick this up. Probably not give a shit about the other characters tho.

COTW beta is a complete mess, no training mode, completely broken matchmaking search.
Gameplay seems fine overall, just kinda sad how much it copies SF6's homework, feels pretty lame that every game tries to be the same these days.

honestly I'm watching Snake Eyez play the game right now. And I don't get the negativity, the animations don't looks dastardly bad or anhthing, maybe just a little "twitchy" or fast I guess? Like every normal move looks a bit sped up I guess? But other than that, the game just looks fine. Maybe it's cuz Im not a super fan of fighting games or whatever so I don't know. If there's any problem I have with the game, it's that it looks boring. But I'll welcome any insults, because my favourite fighting game to watch is SF3 or SF5, SF5 because every action in SF5 is so deliberate. You can see people actively positioning themselves for whiff punishes, for crush counters, V-trigger set up, using their V skills at specific opportune times. I guess it's like smash bros, where the game is so simple that it doesn't matter whether you understand the wave dash or whatever, you can just enjoy and appreciate the basic fact that they're trying to knock the other dude off the stage. In SF5, the game to me is clearly about fishing for punishes, and taking advantage of your turn with all the mechanics.

But I'm most fighting games, it just looks to me like people fish for combos, and dump them until they win.

I say this, reminding whoever is going to read this and get triggered. That I'm not a fighting game super fan and I already don't like them almost on principle because to me the training room culture encourages running your script against the opponent rather than a fluid dynamic back and forth, it's why I don't like SF4, jump light light light special is like every single match, hit confirms and whiff punishes weren't really as much of a thing.

the animation in motion is good, but the quality for the transitions between moves particularly forward and backward motions is extremely low quality. its almost like its missing some frames between them.
connection is hit or miss. I have had good matches, I have had terrible matches. but what really solidified this is this is some rng fest on if it even works properly. I played someone from my local with 20 ping and it sometimes went into slideshow mode for no reason. I work in network engineering so I had us put wireshark and some network monitoring stuff on both our devices, and there was 0 indication of packets dropping or mismatched packet orders due to jitter or drops in our connections. which tells me the netcode synchronization between the clients can just some times shit itself causing obscure rollbacks.
it doesnt happen much to be fair. but this should NOT be happening at all within a range of 0-100 ping. Most rollback standards if implemented properly shouldnt have issues unless an outside force like hardware or connection drops from the clients themselves contributes to it.
this game feels like a somewhat more playable version of release jive.

sf5 also had the 'benefit' of adding more and more and more characters
they were all fun characters that people wanted, and they were well made
but the problem is that the game itself was trash, with game systems interfering too much with the underlying street fighter zone/grapple/poke design

sf6 needs the drive system nerfed, and currently niche characters like marisa and manon given more general tools, or more grappler tools

Surprisingly half true. Back in Ono days, they had a Chun/ibuki/Sakura solo runs(origin story type of comic) that contradicted shit in the lore and to this day are the only solo comics they reprint at lot of(cuz it has some ok fanservice of the girls). In the Nakayama Era, post season 1/2 of SFV, he actually stepped in(which makes sense since Udons run of SFV ended and they just went back to retelling SF2/3). And with SF6 he pretty much monitors their output now

COTW should get a delay of a month or two just to fix the matchmaking. At least they recognized the problem sooner than with KOFXV, but getting the game out with this kind of online issues would be more damaging than moving the release date.

Played CotW for a bit and even without the matchmaking disaster I don't think it's massively better than SF6 right now. If S3 patch really does nerf things that need to be nerfed I fear it will be the winner, they wouldn't even need to be heavy handed.
