The focus of the game is the story and the combat is heavily nerfed. Do you like the characters? Keep them. If you don't then reroll. They removed the attribute system and give you a free healing character so it literally doesn't matter outside of aesthetics and playstyle

Before they focused on stacking debuffs. It was still largely the same but it felt like you were doing more than just playing the animations for damage. The problem is that it required VERY specific party setups because if you didn't have characters whose ailments chained into each other, you couldn't do chain attacks at all.

damn at first I thought this was just another gacha clone 1000x but after clearing chapter 1 the game really takes a whole different course

Yea that's a tough one, I can see why a restrictive system like that got scrapped if the game really is stingy with pull currency.
Right now I do chains because free damage but they feel kinda flimsy, I my units some of have extra effects, +crit teamwide, +healing, but most just say

worse part is I cant really see any rhyme or reason to why some characters provide support buffs but others just don't.
Tsuki provides crit with a support ability of 2,
Eiji has a support ability of 4 is just a follow up attack,
normally I'd be more interested that a game isn't trying to go for class predefined archetypes and instead is being more experimental but that just feels like cope for maybe a hasty design decision.

I don't think they want to really compete with Mihoyo, I think the average JP Gacha studio just treat an IP GIG as a time bomb, extract as much cash as possible, then eos.
Competing requires a lot of testing, feedback and qa, it also means you need to have a lot of
qol because the world is full of live service games.
They seem to realize this when they dumped stamina but don't really want to make concessions when it comes to monetization.

I doubt it, nothing I've come across so far is actually capable of fighting a character that moves while attacking with self heals. Only way you could die really is standing still and eating every single attack that comes your way

Hugest issue is on both ends of the spectrum. You have people who like Senran Kagura and Neptunia etc that would pay for games and Gacha but refuse to get into Gacha because they did not get the memo the Anime Games switched to Gacha and are no longer full games.

Then you have the 3rd worlders who would like these games that are very stubborn about Rates and not paying at all. Praise Chinese stuff and end up review bombing or Outright killing everything in their path than to pay any money at all even if it was 8$ they would find a reason to whine.

So by the end of the day if this does bomb it's because there is not enough Whales and Casual Spenders. The 3rd worlders love China to not care about competition and JP that basically is dead end. There is a reason Japan keeps their games JP Only and refuses to bring it over. The behavior on display these past few days is why.

It's really difficult to go from a game like ZZZ with very fluid combat, abilities and dashes to animation cancel, a much more intuitive swap system and attacks that provide reasonable frame invulnerability to this game where most secondary attacks have lengthy charge up times, cannot be cancelled, have very odd targetting and activating ultimates on other characters leaves your current character to just get fucked.

It just feels really dated while very clearly trying to emulate the same kind of gameplay.

Also have I just not unlocked it or do you just not get pull currency from anywhere expect tiny amounts from finding graffiti and side quests?

Mostly that the weapon banner is closer to zzz bangboo banner. It's rolled with sub currency that you get from character rolls. So essentially you only roll for characters and weapons are an afterthought or a bonus. In current beta dupes and weapons are also not retarded hoyo levels strong too, but that might change.

iirc Endfield has 0.8% rates, 0.2% higher than Genshin. The catch is that you basically need to save to guarantee the rate-up character as banners are still 50/50 and pity does not carry over; you need a reduced amount of rolls if you fail the first time, so instead of 160 rolls (or w/e) you only (only, yeah, okay) need 120. Characters are moved to the standard banner after their rate up.
Weapon banners are 25/75 but you have a 4% chance at getting it, and you are guaranteed the rate-up weapon in like 80 rolls or so.
Will be interesting to see how it'll all work out in practice as it's entirely dependent on roll income. I think it's slightly worse than GI but that also depends on how fast they release characters.

I think the game is fun as a single player experience honestly. I like the 2DHD style overworld and exploring it even if the rewards could be better. The character design and animations and story is great. But gachafags are such a volatile crowd I don't understand why they decided to stake the game on gacha revenue instead of it being its own full priced thing. I really think it could've succeeded.

The thing is in Japan these games largely succeed because everyone has money, they pay and just play the game even if it's Gacha. Do not forget the One Piece Fighting Path is a huge hit in CN and JP. I think this could still work but it should have been more GaaS with some Gacha Elements but the sad thing is it's a rock and a hard place. 3rds desire rates, drops, US/EU want to pay into something and Battle Pass without too much money commitment or things to be paid upfront. GFL2 is close and Tribe Nine feels like it's doing similar. The formula is at a good point it's just they need to overhaul it.

I find myself the game to be extremely fun buuut the monetization of it, it's really bad even for a gacha, but if you don't care about that- it's a blast, you get a lot of guest characters so you aren't always playing with the free ones if you get unlucky.

I do think it will last 2 years at the very least which is what they are aiming for. You can tell they are most likely going to do 1 or 2 cities a month at a chapter pace then end off with a huge battle and then sell it as a discounted game. I do not think they are intending this game to make millions of dollars. But to see if it is viable that such games that are 2 years long can be made. If they can it opens the JP floodgates.

I think they need to put in feedback from the game menu. The main issue is if they expected everything to be extremely generous then clearly they had a misconception because JP gacha are not much different from SK ones. It is fair to ask for rates to be better and more value in Monetization. But there is only so much they can do to make rates, drops better without paying.

This is good a point but I think the devs themselves are to blame. A lot of peoples misconception not only stems from CN gacha like Mihoyo whose rates they're copying but also in the demo they let people do story and were too generous with the currency.
So it feels like they've taken something away to people who were interested and played the demo and those people are now complaining about something they think was a change, devs should have just given people no currency and had people focus on story and combat, and maybe when they want to demo the gacha system give people a lot in a flat rate so they can roll.

Whoa buddy, lets not put the cart before the horse. They need to add a way to earn rolls before anything else. A free 3* does nothing to address the negative feedback; if they say they're sorry and forgot to add the currency + a 3* selector? That's a good way to resolve the issue. Obviously won't happen.
I'm actually enjoying the game and were this any other gacha, I'd buy the monthly at least to show my thanks, even if I'd drop it quickly. Here however, they're so stingy that I can't bring myself to give them any money.

Combat is decent, takes a bit getting used to and can be a bit clunky but once you understand what traps you in animations and how tension works it's pretty good.
Story is decent so far, The baseball section is a pretty good spectacle if nothing else.
Give chapter 1 a solid 8/10 in terms of gameplay

But this isn't even correct. Mid 2010s JP gachas, ESPECIALLY the smaller ones, usually followed a formula of "play story stage for currency, gain more currency for beating full set of missions or or chapter" and the amounts you obtained through that was a lot higher, with the downside of once all that story content was done, you were basically relying on random mail rewards/maintenance and then new story content whenever it was added and the gacha itself typically had much higher chances than 0.3%
Tribe Nine doesn't really have that. You get a chunk of currency (half a 10 pull) for beating chapter 1, outside of that you are really scraping the side content for scraps in the same way you would in a hoyo game, with rates that match a hoyo game but without the consistent daily and weekly currency gain that is found in a hoyo game.

So it's all well and good to say "oh well people shouldn't expect hoyo/chinese currency design" but Tribe Nine literally copies the shittiest parts of that chinese design and not the "better parts" that went along with it to supplement the abysmal pull rates.
I enjoyed chapter 1, and depending on how things go I might buy the battlepass but it just feels really disjointed in terms on how the game is supposed to retain players.

What i meant was that the Gameplay matters and the Gacha is secondary. Ever notice with the recent games it's not about Characters but more or less a formality of getting a character and more about trying to get Outfits etc.

No that's the thing. I was saying that with most Gacha it's moving away from that mentality. Over time it's going to be to pay for the Battle Pass or you will need to pick your spots on what to use your currency for and you can not get everything.

What the fuck does this even mean? GFL2 is massively focused on the gacha element, it just also has skins. Tribe Nine isn't "focused" on the gacha element purely because it's giving you nothing to pull with, but it still expects you to roll characters otherwise they make no money. After 6 hours of rerolling on and off I got a double 3* twice.
First was Tsuruko/Miu which I didn’t keep because I don’t really care about Miu. Probably the 3* I’m interested in the least.
Second was Tsuruko/Jiro which I settled on because I was starting to lose my mind. I wanted Tsuruko/Q or Tsuruko/Enoki but didn’t feel like spending another 4 hours rolling.
Rerolling is fast and it goes by quickly if you have a second monitor or something to watch TV/movies on, but even then it grates on you if you’re going for a specific combination or character. Just take Tsuruko or the first 3* you get for your own sanity.
I can just hope that the game does well enough and survives long enough that they do a celebration event or something and give a bunch of free pulls or a 3* selector.

This game reminds me a lot of Limbus Company, not in the gameplay obviously, but in that it feels like a game that would have been way better as a standalone one time purchase game and not as a gacha and it's from a studio with tenure in actually making one time purchase games.
Except atleast in Limbus the devs basically made their game against all modern gacha conventions and actually made it easy to get all the new content if you buy the season pass and focused on story.
While here they are following every modern gacha standard but somehow even worse, and I cannot even fathom being able to save up for shit I want even with the battlepass.

It depends on the game and how much they want to stick to the "lore". Bad guys do become playable, but usually it's after a point in the story where they aren't an active bad guy anymore or got reformed somehow because it would be weird if you could have like the big bad running around in your party and beating himself up something.
With this game, it would be easy to handwave the availability of characters. The characters you pull from the gacha in-universe are pretty much just highly advanced AI holograms that are only with you while the actual character is off doing something else. So even if someone dies you can still have them playable without causing any plot inconsistencies.

Never ever pull for a weapon early on in a gacha. The best thing you can do is get two 3 star characters from the Tsuruko banner while pulling Tsuruko as the first unit.

You should always prioritize getting multiple characters over building one character unless you just really like that character and plan to funnel everything into them regardless of how good they are.
Like someone said earlier, the game is still brand new and there's no real endgame or challenging content yet that requires minmaxing or metagaming, so we don't know who's going to be good in the long run. Better to try and pad out your roster as much as possible.

You have to do the tutorial when you start the game for the very first time, but even then it’s a short tutorial that only takes like 20 minutes.
After you unlock pulling you just exit to the title if you don’t get who you want and delete your player data and then start again, except you can skip the tutorial this time and it puts you right at pulling.
Takes less then a minute to reset and reroll.

If it wasn't for the reminders at the top of your screen and the currency scraps you find it's extremely easy to forget that this is even a gacha game, it feels like a normal game that's been ripped out of it's pricetag to add gacha monetisation.
Combat takes some getting used to, and there's definitely a bit of a feeling of copying genshin/ZZZ but it's different enough to feel fresh.
There's also a bossfight/PVP mode that isn't about typical combat at all and that part seems far more polished.

The issue with JP gachas is that they are prone to cutting off a tail that makes them little to no money, and the doomposting is warrented since there are actual competitors in the arena brawler genre, even if you were to put jp gachas in a pile Tribe Nine roll is worst than even the games that gives little to no gibs like Wizardry, and FGO being the pile of dogshit of gacha it is gives around 20 rolls per story chapter, if youre a fresh gacha coming out with even less rolls than even either of those two youre basically asking for doomposters eos spammers especially with a market with actual competitors and the like since theres basically no incentives to try the game unless you like the creators in the first place

Yes because I do not understand why people have to go out of their way to hate on something or dislike it. It just does not make sense. I like JP stuff, but you are not going to see me go into CN threads, or SK threads and ask or hate on it because it's not JP. It would be weird. It's almost always the CN types that do this.

Wizardry makes money. You can compare rates but money matters if it's still profitable it does very well if it is not then it does not.

What's hard to understand about someone liking the gameplay (more than ZZZ), the artstyle, the map, and the characters but all of it being ruined by the gacha package? No one complained about the gacha in the beta; think something might have happened in the period since to make people dislike the game? No? Yeah, same, it's just a mystery of the universe, I guess.

It's called a beta, a trial nothing about it was the final game and thinking it was, was a huge misunderstanding on your part and the Devs. People did dislike the Gameplay it was on mixed reviews when it came out. It is what it is. But to keep going on and on about it. Means you should just let it go. Either you will like this game and spend money or you will leave and understand JP Gacha is not for you.
