And not for the reasons you think.
Smash players are actually very picky and are totally willing to let a game they don't like die since their masters and overlords hate them anyway.
But fighting game players are the most cucked slop eaters in the world of "esports" by a wide margin. If they don't like a game, they'll keep playing it anyway because they're ghetto bums that dropped out of high school and nowhere else to go.
If Smash and all of its clones completely died right now or Nintendo made it entirely illegal to stream Smash, something like that, well Hungrybox has a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and S2J has a Bachelor's in Political Science from UCLA. They could just get a real job and still have comfortable lives. Both NuckleDu and Punk dropped out of high school to play video games, so this is pretty much all they have beyond digging ditches.
The FGC is full of people in the latter category more than the former, so if some snake oil company promised them a living playing a bad clone of a VS game, they would just go with it anyway to avoid having to actually learn new skills.
And I think there are enough people like that to keep 2xko afloat.
I don't think this is a good thing, but rather a matter of fact.
