The only bad weapon is H3's multiplayer is the Spiker.
The Covenant Carine is underwhelming when compared to the Battle Rifle, but still pretty useful.

3. Under Customization, select the game of your choice, go to personalization, spartan pose, and have "Take A Knee" highlighted.
4. Take your screenshot and submit it in response to this post.

Entries will be accepted until thread #1893.
You do not have to rotate your spartan, they will by default all look the same direction.
You nay censor your general if you wish, but make sure the picture is still in the correct resolution. Converting a 4K screenshot down to 1080 seems to produce an even clearer image, but this is not required.
Finally, make sure your brightness and gamma settings are set so the Spartan is entirely visible. If it looks too dark, it probably is.
Last thread went well. We already have over a dozen submissions.

Time to reinstall Infinite, bros.
Can't wait to try the Fuel Rod SPNKR in Heavies and the reduced combat distance for infantry. Maybe now it will be more fun to fight out in the open instead peaking behind cover 24/7. I don't mind one or two weapons being long range but not every gun needs to compete with the sniper rifle or BR. I would have even liked to see those two nerfed a little, but this is a good start for now.

The Carbine just has a lower effective range than the BR. The BR has always been overpowered by being straight up better than every non-power weapon in 90% of situations. It needs a very small rof nerf so it can't dominate below medium/within AR range. You would still win at medium and longer ranges because it's better there than anything but the Snipers. Most people can't wrap their head around what balance is actually supposed to be. Esports fags are the absolute worst when it comes to this.

Bad idea. That's how CoD goes about it. It's also way more work than needed and people would cry about being killed by the AR far more often. A small BR rof nerf would simply make you less likely to beat closer range weapons up close. It's a much more natural fit for the game.

If the Carbine was made more accurate across the board, it would have a longer effective range. Missing more at longer ranges is what makes the Carbine have a shorter effective range. Maybe have a system where its max spread is the same, but more accurate up close. Like bullet deviation doesn't start until its been airborne for a certain distance. This would improve its reliability in its weird space between AR and BR ranges, but keep it from having the reach of the BR. Combined with a rof nerf on the BR, this would be great for weapon balance. I've had 50,000 multiplayer kills and 17 years to think about this. Esports people have only made Halo worse.

I already go for the Brute Shot because it's the best beatdown tool in the game, and is able to actually kill stuff on its own. With no headshot weapons in play, you're rewarded for just sitting in place and waiting for people to come to you. No need to get caught out of position by a sniper when you're helpless to stop it.

The BR had to be a burst weapon to make the Carbine feel different. If the Carbine was the burst weapon instead, it would just be a palette swapped BR and people would still act like it isn't OP. Halo 2 was a mess of development and the BR was kept OP so the AI on Heroic and Legendary wouldn't have to be further tweaked. It was for saving time. Remember: Halo 2 came out before massive, game changing patches were a common thing on console. The BR in 3 was more or less the same with a couple range nerfs to help with balance, but 3 was also rushed and had a hard development cycle, and by 2007 they (Microsoft) wanted to please MLG (Esports fags. They really do ruin everything). I guarantee there were internal discussions at Bungie about the rate of fire on the BR, and they figured hit detection was bad enough in 2007 to balance it out in matchmaking. And that's only true part of the time.

Only damage wise. The engine is better, hit detection is improved, and aim assist and bullet magnetism are far stronger in 2 and 3. And because of bullet magnetism specifically, bullet spread actually helps get that final headshot when shields are popped. People who complain about BR inconsistency are the same as people who foam at the mouth over DMR bloom inconsistency (Bloom is bad, don't get me wrong). They aren't using the weapon properly. The BR has spread (especially in 3) to keep it from crossmapping, and to push people closer together so the combat triangle can stay intact. People are trying to kill people who are too far away for the weapon. It's like getting mad at the AR because it's not good past close-medium range. It's supposed to be inconsistent past a certain range. The BR can still hit 1 or 2 of the bullets from a 3-shot burst even well past its effective range, and that messes with people's heads. They get good visual hit feedback from shield flair when using the BR outside its effective range, but in reality they have to 8-10 shot that person. People incorrectly misinterpret this as inconsistency, when in reality they're trying to use the weapon well past its intended range.

It's a bit of both. The Halo 3 BR has a significantly more bullet spread than the Halo 2 BR. Combined with much slower projectile speed and reduced bullet magnetism (I literally do not care about what Bungie and 343 call it internally, calling it "magnetism" this makes more sense because bullets are pulled towards whatever you're shooting at.) the Halo 3 BR has worse effective range than the Halo 2 BR. An attempt to balance it in 3 was made, but its RoF is still high enough to let it destroy most of the sandbox in most situations, assuming the wielder isn't ambushed and the ambusher isn't going to miss and is well within the most effective range of the weapon they're wielding. It especially messes with closer range weapons, which make up over half the weapons in the game. I don't exactly want Halo 3's balance to be changed, because it's so old that it's more of a historical thing now. I want lessons to actually be learned, and changes made to later games. 343 hasn't been completely horrible with balance with Infinite, because they're trying to figure things out more than ever before. At least some people at 343 are earnestly trying to do their job. Overall TTK being so fast is an issue in Infinite, but that is definitely being pushed on the balance/gameplay team by higher ups due to esports faggotry pandering.

The fire rate was nerfed after 2 as well.

The main point here is that the RoF is still too high in 3. The fact that you can't even use an AR against a BR at a moderate level of play is an undeniable balance issue. Just because you're at a higher level of play, doesn't mean a weapon should be basically useless. For example the 1911 in BF3 is still very usable assuming you have good aim and aren't massively outnumbered or trying to snipe someone with it. Just go into a warehouse and you can kill a guy or two with it if you're good. DICE made it usable by making it so suppression doesn't affect you when you're using a pistol, so as long as you're within its intended range, and have good aim, you can do well. If you try to use basically half the sandbox in Halo 3 at a higher level of play, everyone laughs at you for being an idiot trying to use weapons that are worse because they know the weapon is the limiting factor. When used properly, weapons should not hold people back, player ability should. The BR is just plain OP, like the AN-94 and M16A3 in BF3.

If you guys actually wanted to balance Halo properly you'd do things like create a wider average kill time gap between different skill levels, decrease weapon spawn timers and increase movement speed.
Nerf the BR or buff the autos and you've got the same result either way. Autos will be used more and because they have a much smaller average kill time difference than the BR it means player skill will have less influence over a game. How much less depends on the nature of the buffs/nerf.

I think the Carbine and Automag belong in the same tier. The Carbine does much better shield damage, but sucks at range and many of the Firefight maps have long sightlines. It's also not something you spawn with, so you may go a long time between finding ammo for it.
Does Tilt affect the Carbine differently from bullet weapons? I haven't looked at the damage table. I believe it does "plasma_fast" damage.

The range disadvantage is negligible. The fact it can reliably take down shields is why I put it above the Automag. The Carbine and the Automag are about as reliable when taking down extremely long range targets like rooftop sniper Jackals.
I didn't consider Tilt, since Firefight Limited doesn't get to it and most people restart their custom game session or move on to the next map when Tilt turns on.

The Plasma Pistol does everything the Brute Plasma Rifle does, plus it has overcharge and EMP.
The only advantage the BPR has over the PP is it's better at dealing health damage and is common among Brute waves.

Sadly, the Covenant Carbine is just about as effective against Drones as the SSMG is. Drones don't have much health and minors die with a single body shot from the Carbine.

It's stupid and tonedeaf how they try to make it competitive and so short. It should be about survival and teamwork. Don't give extra rewards for kills, give extra for revives and assists. King of the Hill isn't terrible, but having it as the only mode is bad. It doesn't have that extra edge to it that classic survival Firefight in ODST has. And I really want to see the co-op mode that's in Battlefront II 2017 (Which is basically the Rush gametype in Battlefield against AI) make its way to Infinite or a future Halo game. It's criminally underrated and overlooked because of the whole lootbox controversy that pushed most people away from it back in 2017. If the campaign was linear, they could have reused levels in this way. Open world really messes things up.

I would keep the headshot kill damage but require an extra 2 or 3 bursts to kill shields. But your idea is so out there I'm willing to try it if it means more close quarters combat. Halo has always been easy to aim in so I don't know about encouraging more skillful aiming since it's already hard to aim in fast twitch shooters, but any nerf to its kill times should be fine. The Warden isn't an actual character. He's a bunch of them, many dead souls trapped inside a body. They were supposed to be the firewall for the Domain but things went to shit because of the ring activation that ended up killing their entire species. So he became more of a malfunctioning anti virus, trapped outside the Domain, not letting anyone inside either.
The Didact makes peace with the humans that are there, but he still hates the living shit of any AI that got inside and rips them apart with his own hands despite their begging for the right to live.

It should be treated like the Carbine in Firefight. Because if it's always there, it removes a good chunk of the challenge. A bit like how all the Sniper ammo makes Chasm Ten a bit too easy if the rest of the team is half competent. The Battle Rifle couldn't even be scattered around Mombasa Streets on dead bodies with limited ammo without messing things up, because that would simply increase the Carbine's ammo pool, in a sense, meaning the difficulty goes down. After being a defensive holdout gametype, limited ammo on good weapons is what really makes ODST Firefight so good. Resource management. Deciding what weapons to use on what enemies, and when. Baiting Jackals with Carbines closer to your position so you can more safely pick up the Carbine ammo. 343 doesn't get it. 99% of people don't get it.

The Halo 3:ODST Brutes mostly already fixed the Halo 3 Brute problem.

- Larger packs of them all at once. It happens mainly in Firefight, but the concept is already proven. (Crows Nest and Tsavo Highway in 3 do this well.)
- Recharging shields instead of armor that builds up damage over time, so you still need to focus fire on one at a time. But armor can still be broken so large packs aren't miserable to deal with.
- They're faster than in Halo 3. At least relative to the speed the player can move at.

In 2025, the real question is why 343 didn't build on ODST's Brutes, and instead went with a bland mix of Halo 2 and 3 Brutes + a few types with mobile game tier shield effects.

NTA but I do. I've watched plenty of Extra Credits and Beginner Tutorial/Introduction to Unreal/Unity/Godot/GameMaker/RPG Maker/Construct/Clickteam Fusion videos, and I have watched all of Bungie's Halo vidocs.

The only one in this thread with more knowledge and experience than me is probably Reach Customs Anon(s?) and the other anon that mods the Halo games but doesn't share/host them, but he does have a lot of knowledge as to how the games work mechanically.

Both weapons have the same damage type, and the Shotgun just has higher damage. But like I said in my other post, the Mauler and Spiker kept their 72 melee damage from Halo 3 while the rest of the weapons got nerfed to 45.

Infinite's equipment isn't so defensive. Sure, there's a big shield and you can use the grapple to get out of a bad situation, but for the most part it's best used offensively. Most of the Bungie equipment in both games were just shields or ways to prolong/avoid a fight.

If you're talking about webm related, they're map mods so I can't just throw them up on the customs browser. The mod itself is also pretty sweaty, so the general population of /hg/ wouldn't care that much to play it. Low autoaim, faster strafe and overall movement, and a pretty fast TTK across the board.

Halo has anything like strafe jumping as a skillful way to go faster. The best you have is jumping on your way down from a ramp.

It was Quake 3 Team Arena that basically created the modern esports scene. I highly recommend Quake Live for the uncapped framerate and fov options and maps. It also has bots if you can't find people to play with. Quake Champions is a hero shooter live service.

Bungie knew how broken their BR was. It was supposed to be in ODST (it literally shows up in a cutscene, the one where the Brute Chieftain hammers Romeo), but it was removed at one point. They knew no one would use the Automag if it was an option.

People point at the Combat Evolved Magnum when talking about overpowered weapons but the Automag and BR are easily better than it because of how much bullet magnetism they have. If the BR had random spread after the first initial shot and more random spread with the next two, along with less BM to the head areas they'd be a lot better to play around with and allow the rest of the sandbox to flow better without being the dominating utility weapon. But technically, variable headshot damage was always possible. They could have changed the head's health value independently, or used a different material on it to allow for only certain weapons to do extra damage.

Skorly's missions have better encounter design but New Covenant's 2nd mission is worth playing the mod for. 1st mission is kinda bland. 3rd mission has a new weapon that takes over the mission because it's infinite ammo. Going through the door after the gondolas is really cool though, very striking. Wish there were fewer cutscenes because they go on a bit and the story isn't that interesting. Really appreciate that the mod is willing to take things slow during gameplay and set the atmosphere.

With Halo 2, the entire game had to be redone, and a lot of what wasn't cut were things that we would describe as surface level.
With Halo 3, they put lore effort into just polishing up the campaign, where as things like writing and VA coaching fell through the cracks more. Creatively speaking Bungie was largely checked out after H2.

To your credit you guys did try to warn me but, yeah, worse than 4 and Infinite. At least with those games they were bad more by Halo standards. But this was actually just a badly designed video game even in a vaccuum.

I have never once referred to custon edition as "CE" but I guess I can see why that would make sense.
Actually I'll even co cede that it kind of does make more sense. Kind of like how America should just call our "Football" "Soccer". It would fix all the confusion. but it's never going to happen. Most people just say what they say.

Infinite's is arguably more soulless but it still plays better. 5's Campaign is just nightmare fuel trash except for brief parts of the second level.

I enjoyed the campaign but I overdosed on it. Played through it so many times that the last time I played it from start to finish (first time on MCC which was several years ago) it felt like a slog. I'm burnt out on it. Now I can only play it with mods, namely SPV3 or some other big overhaul because then it becomes such a completely different and fresh experience that it might as well be a new game. The multiplayer isn't very exciting to me, especially BTB which is what I usually play nowadays, so CE for me is mainly about the campaign. But I'd be willing to play through the legendary campaign one more time if it was my last run, as a farewell/sendoff.

I still play through the vanilla campaign regularly. Multiplayer never gets old because the sandbox and physics are perfect. It can be as casual or sweaty as you want it, and the BTB experience is very lively. And if you add mods, it becomes immortal and limitless. This is already what I default to.

The campaign is the least replayable for me out of all the Halos. It has some nice things like dual needlers and exploding vehicles, but overall 3 is just a better experience. There's more to do and mess around with. I have a hard time slogging through the campaign even with big mods like Halo 2 Uncut. It's just not particularly fun. For multiplayer, it has the best 4v4 competitive out of all the Halos, but I'm not competitive. I like BTB and this game might be worse than CE when it comes to BTB despite having a better sandbox because it's way more cutthroat. There are no comebacks in Halo 2's BTB when you're up against a good team. They will just sit there and spawnkill you after the first exchange. In a way it's worse than Reach because infantry has nothing to fight back with except grenades. You might get pushed back to your base in Reach, but you're not getting killed constantly the moment you spawn. In 2 you don't even have EMP or a DMR to fight vehicles, only grenades.

The sniper rifle should only be capable of getting 2 kills per magazine. (Same as rockets or binary rifle)
Collateral damage that results in more kills is fine (Such as ricochet/penetration/AOE/etc.), but primarily 2 kills per magazine should be the main focus.

It entirely depends on how large the delta is between the perfect shots to kill on paper and the average shots to kill in practice.
The overwhelming majority of people that have ever touched a halo game cannot get 2 sniper kills per magazine.
