Didn't get the steam page up today because I didn't feel like I had enough material for a trailer. So working on doing up some different attacks for the player characters and making a significantly different additional environment. Trying to aim for just 20 seconds worth of material. (hitting impact pause is done in-engine so it looks kind of smooth here)

shader mostly completed. spent too much time with it, just optimizing the performance of it. In the video, I show some of the styles it can do, but also am keeping a few of the others a secret for now.
The first one shown at the start is the standard URP shader to show as a comparison, but every other car within the video is using the same shader.
Still a few things are left to do, but I like the progress I made with shaders recently.
Model is not mine, its a car from the movie Redline which is a cool animated movie. Found on the site sketch fab.

In Fygoon's defense, goon was only recently appropriated. Though it's definitely infuriating seeing this stuff happen to one's self. Try using the rainbow color scheme in your game and there's a chance some lgbt freaks will show up claiming it's to support them. Same for the blue pink palette combo which I like but now watch out the troon will come barging in claiming it's a secret nod of approval for them, it is not!

Honestly sounds like you just don't really understand AI, stuff that sounds or looks "like AI" is akin to bad artwork, it's just bad in a different way. To actually make something that looks good is a lot of skill and effort, not as much as real artwork obviously, but that's the point of a tool. When people post some really good art and people call it AI, I think to myself "it would honestly be more impressive to get AI to do that than draw it by hand."

I spent a couple days prompting to make sure it could work for my game, I didn't get anything particularly good but I still believe in it as a tool.

can you accurately rate the importance of each word in relation to eating?

this would create a concept of "importance categories" right? so things don't have importance on their own that can be ranked, but they fall into a group of requirements and are 100% equal in importance to everything in the same group.
e.g. if i'd add the words "Scissors" and "Bottle", they'd not fall into that importance category and you can actually rank them lower in importance.

The problem with Godot was that they decided to nodev their engine-literally the entire catalyst for that. There are basic fucking sprite features that were requested over 5 years ago that have been on the TODO list and not done.

what happens with an assembly definition is, that it only re-compiles code inside the folder, so it has less to compile

and

b) reloading domain when you press play, you can disable that by going into "project settings" > "editor" > "when entering play mode" > "do not reload domain or scene". this will make the game boot instantly when you press play. it's the setting i use in my projects all the time.

it seems like the number of combinatorial possibilities isn't what gives a game more depth. when the combinations are meaningless.
e.g. a game where you have an 8x8 grid where you can move from tile to tile, has less options where you can freely move in 8x8 space, having a possible number of positions that is only limited by float precision.
yet does it feel like having more depth? no.

it seems like combinatorial possibilities only create more depth, when the combinations actually matter in the context.

e.g. chess has more context than rimworld, by having a whole culture surrounding it and real human interaction with opponents.

actually the way strict rigid setup with the same starting point every round, allows for much more fun in exploring the best possible strategy.

whereas procedural generation in rimworld kinda counters this aspect, it actually discourages finding optimal strategies (to a large degree) and forces adaption rather than optimization.

Yeah, it’s kinda about the impact every single decision has. I think the problem with Rimworld and others is not so much context or lack therof, it’s that some decisions are vastly more impactful than others. So you focus on an increasingly "macro" scale and all the little things you could do on lower scales are just very irrelevant. Of course, moving to more and more macro scale is part of what people enjoy in these games, feeling the (exponential) progress.
A similar phenomenon is when you have for example a track in a driving game. Ideally, the "impact" of every part of the track should be similar. If the track is ~60 seconds but you gain or lose +/-2 sec in a 5 sec. segment, while driving for the same variance of +/-2 sec on the remaining 55 sec., then players will say that the map "comes down only to that one part" and feel bored while driving the other relatively meaningless 55 secs.

If you feel like rewriting it, you could do the Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun approach, where you form craters by just introducing slopes.
The other option is to plaster crater decals on the ground. You can even spend some time to create something that'll dynamically make new crater decals based on impact and the material type its interacting with.
Add some miscellaneous damage texturing that can be freely overlaid at your pleasure, IE cracks, bullet holes or scorch marks, and you've got a pretty good approximation of what a battlefield will look like.

I'm using assembly definitions and namespaces etc. It does not help. It's spending time with domain reloading. Disabling it also breaks things. Things don't update, so you really need to reload the domain. The problem is it's taking too long compared to the size of my project. Someone on the forums mentioned that the size of the loaded scene in the editor makes a noticable difference. It's literally something unity has to fix. My one guess is the editor somehow caps the speed of the domain reload process. Because there is no way my project is that heavy to get the editor stuck that much.

GameMaker's probably the better as a novice, thanks to its VSL.

If I may make a recommendation, I'd say make a small, arcade-style game in Love2D instead(think like Luftrausers or something, something with a very simple gameplay loop that can theoretically go on infinitely.) Love2D is more of a framework than it is a game engine, and there's plenty of resources, so it'll give you a better understanding of what's going on under the hood of the engine if you ever make a switch to something else. Plus, Lua's pretty easy, despite its somewhat unusual semantics.
That said, my recommendation is a bit in-depth and will throw you into the deep end, so I don't blame you if you want to ignore it.

it's a trap to believe life is a grind, actually a grind is the opposite of gaining knowledge.
you might just lack the understanding of what really interests you, because you haven't heard of the keywords/concepts yet that relate to your interests. it's actually a hard thing to explore stuff like that, because it's the typical problem of "you don't know what you don't know", but typically you "will know" that it interests you once you see it.

What is the name of this color picker layout? I'm trying to implement a color picker without sliders. With all the complaints about AI voice acting and how there's "lots" of real voice actors looking to work for indie games why does nobody ever list how/where to get into contact with these VAs?
How is an indie dev supposed to know where these mystical voice actors are if the only thing they get is harassment and gaslighting and nothing else. That question is never answered by these people
>No website names of where affordable VAs with good quality gear are (a dude off fiverr with a walmart mic ain't gonna cut it)
>No namedrops of voice actor groups that are trying to raise attention and get noticed by indie devs
>No namedrops of up and coming VAs that isn't just the same closed off social circle that ProZD and Gianni are part of (I guess they're the only VAs in existence)
>No social trends happen for VAs unlike artists, 3D artists, and even programmers so an indie dev can't find some that way
VAs don't try to gather together and form groups/websites dedicated purely for indie devs which makes them the odd one out compared to other fields like how artist, musicians, programmers, 3D modellers all get themselves out there and/or provide services to indie devs

I'm going to make an app in godot that will only rename the bones of a rig system created with Vroid, rigify, mixamo, autorig pro and a couple of other autorigging plugins.

And sell it for 5 usd.
I think that's something that would be 100% useful and what I would actually pay for.

Because it's a pain in the ass to do that by hand and it would really be super cool if I didn't have to mess around with blender addons and it would really be cool if it was just a button and that's it.

It's literally something I would pay for an app that would convert from rigify to Vroid or make everything super comfortable and easy.

I'm planing to try out making a simple craft system, using craft currency (Salvage/Salvaged Material), which includes metal, leather, cloth, jewels etc.
Player will get it mostly out of decompositing equipment, and/or maybe other ways.
The thing is, it is hard to make up a unified currency pic, this is one I tried, but I don't really like how it looks. Any ideas how to make that pic better? It also has to be in size of 10x9 or 10x8, to fit with other currencies.

I process a state once a frame and check for input once a frame.
If the input check is first I can go into a state and do stuff in the same frame.
but then when I exit the state to idle nothing happens for one frame.

Does this need fixing and if yes, how?
If I reverse the order of the functions it just means the 1 frame delay is transferred to other states.

I would like to make a crappy internet era simulator.
Something like a basic windows xp GUI emulator where you can do basic stuff like open the menu and open basic stuff like microsoft word, or winamp, or some little game that is just a gif in screenshots of the original game.
And there is a fake browser where you can visit screenshots of pages taken from way back machine.
And listen to some mp3's of songs from that time.

It wouldn't be hard because 99% of that shit would be screenshots, and songs and old internet videos and a low poly model of the PC of the time.

It would literally be like making a VN that simulates the operating system of a windows xp and windows 98, 95, 3.1 with videos and music stolen from the internet.

I don't know, but I came up with the idea of simulating different decades of the internet.

It would be full nostalgiabait.

gotta create a custom binary without the 3D or 2D engine or any modules.

Godot default binary simply ships a lot of modules you may not want.

You could remove most of godot subsystems and export something that is like 5MB.

But you need to compile the engine with some scons arguments.

I eventually learned that you can solve very easily the issue of 10 minutes of gameplay.
If you add a VN cutscene between level.
A basic 2D JRPG map and make your game to be mostly the combat system or like the meat of the game.

You can solve that issue by having a bunch of dungeons or variations, based on like a fantasy story where the player go from point A to B to get the crystals to go and fight the last villain on the floating island.

You already got the meat of your hamburger.
What you're missing is the salad and french fries.

BTW If you can't design all the levels, use a dungeon generator.

still image showing the shader I made, this time with a model of the character Frog from Chrono Trigger.
Take a lot of time tweaking, since there is a blurring of colors affect post-processing volume I made, that I will have enabled sometimes, but disabled at others... so shader needs to look at least "okay" for both of the scenarios.

Sorry for the light bulb in background, taken with the Scene View of Unity instead of the Game View (not want walk my character all the way to Frog just for screen shot. Too far of a journey to make this morning.)

Like to use the more intensive models for displaying, many of models for the actual game are low poly and do not look good on their own (let me refer to you the art saying "wholes are more than the sum of the parts" - so, look good with many low poly, but not with few)

Museum is now 99% done. Blorb can deposit shrooms into the museum and they will be displayed so you can admire them. This is the single thing I worried most about implementing (making it so each of the 100 randomly generated mushrooms will be placed in the right room), but it wasn't too bad. Maybe I should stop procrastinating all the things that seem hard...

I truly now, TRULY, I mean it, only need to finish the last biome and add the final fight, and then it's only polishing and little details. Next DD, it will finally be blorbin' time.

You get used to it. After the 10th time it's basically just routine. Your options are to either spend an obscene amount of time planning architecture ahead of time as you build your game (nearly impossible task), or to make it good enough and then spend an obscene amount of time refactoring every time your inner idea guy takes over and decides to include some new feature your current architecture isn't equipped to deal with outright.
Only one of those paths leads to actual progress, I'll let you guess which one.

It's fully 3d
It uses low resolution + orthographic camera + very simple/blocky meshes to give the illusion of being 2d sprites

Working through getting my base race/class combos ready for demo, so I was working on some melee ability animations, when I realized I needed to tie weapon trails to montages (might not need to, but it makes quite a few things easier) and needed to re-write my animation setter to accomodate.
After puzzling it out and a quick re-write, I took my original lookup data object from 6 MB to 40KB. Will also be much simpler to manage.
PROGRESS!

Eh? Bedabots isn't banned on Steam. We simply have not yet passed the review stage because Steam wanted to see more of the game. The game is also not released on itch.io. Only the demo is available on itch.io. Unless you are a Kickstarter, the latest build of Bedabots is only available on Patreon (and f95).
