Last ditch effort to milk MTX. They specifically added two gooner characters, removed them from the battle passes (so you had to buy both passes and characters) and implemented fighter road as a time sink grind. It was a desperation attempt and 4 killed the game for sure.

5 giving free 2 free characters and a free pass is basically saying “we’re sorry”

It's incredible just how abysmal and pathetic I really AM!" Maybe you'll lift some weights in the morning. Maybe you'll take a self-help class.
Maybe in a couple of years, Tony, you'll have learned from this failure. I doubt it, though.
I genuinely doubt it.
Now excuse me, I have to work on the next Super Smash Bros game. My accountant estimates over five hundred million dollars in sales.

man i dont know if youve read any patch notes since it came out again but they do not seem to know how to do that.
it was over the moment the only change velma had early on was a nerf to make her long ass cd move even longer. there was never a chance they were going to fix this fucking thing. especially when they had to keep locking characters due to infinites. they're wildly incompetent.

the hopeposters/copeposters have been worse than the doomposters for a while now. at least doomposters were grounded in reality and weren't trying to say the triple digit player peaks on steam didn't mean anything and that the game losing non-english VAs wasn't indicative of the game's future. even now they still think the game can somehow be saved from death and 90k people will come back

Doomposters are the equivalent of people that say Darth Vader can’t be redeemed because he killed kids. Like that’s not the point. The games dying but it can be redeemed at the end and go out on a good note.

Cool. Nobody fucking cares if the season has 50 pages of patch notes because it's literally shutting down in 3 months. The patch notes are literally just going to be "enjoy this temporary stuff before we take the game offline permanently". There's no reason to be excited or invested at all with that knowledge. Besides, they've hyped up "combat overhauls" basically every season and it never amounted to anything meaningful and the game continued to die.

something interesting to note is that november was the only month this game didn't really lose players. then they added shields. then the game had the biggest drop it's had since launch, which is pretty impressive since it was already at like, 0.01% of peak launch players

That update DID add shields but it's not why *I* stopped playing by then, I just... couldn't keep going. Booting the game up started to feel terrible and my friend didn't wanna go through the rifts with me anymore cuz of similar feelings.

They shared their experience of working with PFG/Tony and Ajax read their experience and knew enough about it to confirm they worked there. Tony literally disappeared from social media after selling the studio WB and only resurfaced after the EoS announcement.

I can understand the devs creating a bunch of backup content for rainy days as another anon said. It makes sense in the long term to have some emergency shit to give to the community in times where you piss them off, or if some employees take a ton of vacation, or if for some reason you eventually have some shortage of content, etc. What is completely and totally beyond understanding is why they didn't start dumping some of this stuff the second their player numbers began to dwindle the first couple times. These people were jumping out of a plane only to pull the ripcord on the parachute a microsecond before they splattered on the ground.

From what I remember, the actual reason was that the CEO of the development studio that worked on that game managed to save up enough money to buy their independence from Sega (as they were owned by them at the time) because they were tired of making mobile games and wanted to go back to being a support studio for console games.

This was literally a major problem that caused a lot of people to leave in the first place. The servers for this game have always been dogshit and having that problem when a new season drops is the worst possible time. This has happened every single season launch, and throughout.
Imagine being someone that dropped the game shortly after launch because of how disappointing it was, hearing it's about to die, and wanting to log back in one last time to see if anything's changed or improved since then. You boot up the game, and it's unplayable. You realize you had the exact same problems when the game launched, so nothing's actually been fixed, so you close the game and never open it again. It's dying anyway, so why bother?
This is why this game never realistically had a chance to succeed. The dev team is just too incompetent to make it work.

If they had simply announced S5 was to be the last content update with servers staying online for the foreseeable future, I would have said there might be a chance to turn things around if the game saw a sudden, massive influx of new players. That they already announced a server shut down date, disabled Gleamium purchases, AND are letting people cash in character tickets for 1k Gleamium each pretty much seals its fate. That means it wasn't just not making money, but actively losing WB money.

Rifts was a huge mistake. They could have done just a simpler bunch of single player challenges. One being a series of fights. One being break the targets. Maybe one being going through the mazes. But it's all jumbled together in an unsatisfying manner. If you want a more challenging break the targets, you need to go through a more challenging series of fights. You can't just do break the targets alone.

The rifts in their entirety were fucking stupid. Just let people unlock chests, experience and other shit by just playing. It would’ve made them more time and resources to pump out skins and shit which is what people actually want

its not fair bros, also i started with 1400 toast this season, been giving it away to everyone win or lose in ffa and 2v2, and 1v1, still have 1249 toast left

i know #savemultiversus is a meme, but man... i hope this game gets re-released after they detach tony from the project, mvs2 next year would be amazing...

this is my favorite fighting game and i really wanted it to succeed... fuck man... fuck....

it still looks good, its still fun, theres no reason this game had to die, if tony is the problem then he should of done the right thing and fucked off. how big is his fucking ego to stay on knowing it would lead to the death of an almost perfect platforming fighting game that not only rivaled smash but was better than smash in my opinion...
