i have energy investment anxiety. i always need 100% proof something is worth the effort.
it seems to kill not only progress, but also the joy of gamedev. cause usually when you enjoy the process it doesn't even matter if it's "worth it".
i can't seem to break free from it though, it's like my brain is just strongly wired like that.

yeah, that was me yesterday. looks different on this current webm due to post process effect that blurs color.
without the color blurring, I think it looks okay but not as good as in the youtube I had linked (he likely uses sine wave functions to create the lines + add noise, mine you will notice the lines cut off smoothly with the shadows cutoff due to being a texture)
His video did give some good information as to how it works, but it's all through carefully examining the shader when he shows off the different passes. Unfortunately most people who are good at writing shaders never explicitly say what it is they are doing to achieve their look

overall the most inspiration of other games is from LSD Dream Emulator, Sludge Life, Jazz Punk, and Proteus

It's usually the npc reacting to player actions.

The simplest way is to add some emoticons or npc jrpg manga balloons with some generic messages.

Ironically on sheriff 22, there's a simple system where the enemies show a basic manga balloon with some insult at random times.
They also try to move away from when the player is aiming, by using some extra area triggers on the 8 directions the player aim.

Ironically I was like wtf, when one of them did a basic very close dodge to a projectile of mine, when he was a low HP, and I was so lucky the message triggered just right after that.

So, in my mind he literally did a dodge and gave me a slur.

Was literally like if he was alive.
Even me who coded the system, was still my mind thinking he was alive.

The Daimon Cannon, for the uninitiated, is a weapon made by a mythical civilization of spacefaring creatures known as the Daimons. These reptilian creatures would happen upon the Zmeian Archipelago, where a colony was set up before they mysteriously disappeared from the region. One of the pieces of technology the Daimons would leave behind was an energy cannon used by their warriors: this cannon focuses a small beam of light that burns through almost anything. The only issue with this weapon is its inefficient power source: a power crystal retrofitted by the Frydarians after the original fusion core's power was depleted. As a result, the Daimon Cannon requires a lengthy charge-up period before firing and, once activated, burns through the energy at a rapid pace.

Ok, so there was this bug that would cause the Daimon Cannon to only project a laser at the last thing it shot at. I fixed it and now you can shoot into the sky with no weird graphical errors.
Now I need to figure out how I will put this into the game alongside the Vorpal Reaver. For the Vorpal Reaver I was thinking of including it as a prize for completing the Trials; but now with the Daimon Cannon in the mix, I'm not sure what the prize should be: a killer two-handed sword or a badass laser of DEATH.

Big gate? What does Daimon mean in this context, or is it a reference I’m missing? Having accurate Japanese naming especially for moves/weapons is important for autists and weebs (me).
One example being Zoro’s onigiri, a play on words of oni (demon) + cut (giri), but onigiri together means riceball. The Japanese put a lot of effort and meaning into their names, they love double entendres I’d argue more than any other culture. If you say you picked Daimon simply because it sounded cool that’s fine too, but I’m curious why you chose that name.

I play a lot of vidya in Japanese, another example being Pokemon.

Both of these names are lost in translation played in English and that’s why it’s better to play in Japanese, but I digress.

"Daimon", if you read >>512705440, refers to a race of reptilian creatures in my fictional universe. The name is a corruption of the word "Daemon", which describes a "divine or supernatural being". The names in my game's universe can be derived from corrupted forms of pre-existing words, but what they mean is up for interpretation.

There are special data structures for bijections but just having 2 maps is close enough to optimal.
If the Key and Value sets are disjoint, you can even use the same map for both.

I did the quick and dirty method of using PlayerPrefs, which is strange because in my previous game I serialized all of my variables; frankly, I got too far into such a mess that I cannot change my save method.
