>>512621821nope, GRRM said it's been like 6 thousand years or something
i understand the confusion tho, i myself hardly believing it, there are things that make it seem like Shattering could have happened millenia ago or literally fucking yesterday, it's hard to tell
if Shattering happened recently, then some things are weird, such as certain elements feeling like a long time has passed since the war (other tarnished like Vyke getting Runes etc.)
if shattering happened long ago, then it means that characters like Ranni, Miquella, Messmer, Godrick were doing fuck all for millenia until a random Tarnished murderhobo did it etc.
also i'm almost sure there's dialogue that implies there have been multiple generations before Godrick ruled Stormveil, we also don't know how long Godfrey was in exile, we don't know anything about the proper timeline and so on, Nepheli is related to him but it's not ever explained how
it's also never explained how Lands Between functions or functioned, i understand that the map is scaled down from it's actual "lore" size just like games like TES do it, where a "crown jewel" rich city is just 6 houses etc., but it's never explained how regular life in Lands Between looks like, who rules over what, what is the role of Stormveil, Leyndell etc. and some weird landmass placement eg. Caria/Liurnia being between Stormveil and Leyndell and there being a war with them when one side is literally just one big mansion/manor and an academy while other is just one city and one castle
there's also no ports for ships to arrive, only one "village", basically no fields to grow food, but ton of catacombs, caves and so on, it all feels very artificial and "video gamey" which is a shame because Open World games showed it doesn't have to be the case - look at Witcher 3 and it's world, it feels like it could be real place aside from you know, fantasy beasts and some magic
it's all a big mess to be honest
