Kinda miss it actually. Spartan company/clans Achilles grind drama back in the 4/5 days was a lot more fun than the ghost town the current halo community is nowadays.

Real Talk.
I keep hearing rumors and details of MCC getting a 3rd release, this time on other consoles.
I think the multiplat thing is fine but, why MCC? Why not just Halo 3 or H3A if they want to be a bit more ambitious? If it was just Halo 3, the game would be more populated and not spread out across multiple games, half of which are borderline dead all the time anyway.
Everybody knows Halo 3 has the best campaign, multiplayer, and forge. To this day there are people who haven't touched Halo in ages that still have memories of the two scarab fight. Everyone loved the custom games like 5 Chambers (F*t Kid) and Duck Hunt. Plus modding support would skyrocket. No kore time wasted on HALO X IN CE mods.
Halo peaked with 3 in all phases, even music and visuals, just go back to what works and we will have a new golden age.

Seriously, I love Believe and Landfall but holy fuck they have absolutely nothing to do with the game. They're as much lies as Hunt the Truth for H5.

OOT has a better case for best Zelda even if I would personally disagree, but I can see how it can get there with the right argument.

It's a good game but the other Halos are good too. In fact my least favourite Halo game these days is probably CE even though I still like it a lot.

CEA I don't even count as a Halo game because it's ridiculous. It's just a bad remaster of a previously great game.

I've had fun in every halo game.
I've had fun in Shadow the Hedgehog 2005.
I've had fun cheating on my gf.
That doesn't mean they're all "good" Obviously it's relative, and again I don't think Reach is a bad game, and any complaint about the "downfall" starting with AAs can logically be extended to 3's equipment.
But Reach is still a really REALLY flawed game, so much so that said flaws can't just be overlooked when considering the game's overall rating or quality.

In MCC you can change the visuals and audio between classic and anniversary independently of each other, so you can have anniversary graphics and classic sound or visa versa.
For H2A though it's just all bundled together. Maybe some mods have been able to seperate them.

It also makes the same mistake Infinite does of trying to split the baby by being a soft reboot while also overly acknowledging the plot lines from the shit entries. So in this case it fits.

I disagree on the basis that Halo Infinite might have actually been better if it had memberberries instead of needlessly changing halo into an open world soap opera. While Romulus tried to balance new and old, Infinite just took a big dump on everything old for the sake of new that no one wanted. So I don't think it fits well at all.

"Problem" with MCC is it doesn't have a monetized live service that keeps bringing in revenue after the initial purchase, whereas Infinite does.

What really fucks with 4 Knights IMO are the ways you fight them.
Like high diff classic Halo has always punished you for walking in on enemies and having fun, but the plasma pistol exists so you can use that to deal with shields and a headshot weapon to keep up a feeling of methodical efficiency. It's samey, but it keeps things moving and it's not unsatisfying.

H4 doesn't have anything like that. In sections where it's just forerunner you don't have the PP, you don't have plasma nades, the forerunner nade can kill knights but feels unreliable, your options are to tediously click on them from a distance or to jockey a power weapon like the scattershot assuming it's actually available. It's just obnoxious, and the hit feedback is terrible as everyone knows

Just playtested some missions in a few Halo 4 modded campaigns.

Mostly visual changes from what I can tell. The look/sound of the weapons are made to feel more classic, but the gunplay more or less feels the same. It looks the prettiest and most Halo. (Even the Promethean disintegration effect has a gorgeous blue glow instead of yellow, and the Prometheans are all blue instead of red.
>Halo 4 Mythic Overhaul Campaign
The wackiest and most casually fun one. This is pure Halo X in Halo Y, and adds a bunch of weapons with new or returning functionality, as well as adds extra enemy models from previous games and other surprises for the most variety. This one is the most fun to explore because there always seems to be something new around the corner. However, it seems the Promethean side of things was untouched. This is unfortunate because the Prometheans are the dullest part of Halo 4, so I'm honestly disappointed because I was looking to replay the campaign with this mod. But not if I have to slog through the same Promethean sections as the vanilla game...

Somehow they managed to make the Promethean sections more fun than the Covenant parts. I am almost dumbfounded. I haven't played Halo 5's campaign, but apparently the Promethean weapons are revamped to be more like their Halo 5 counterparts. The covenant and human weapons feel slightly different but not too much, and have some different sound effects. This campaign feels the most polished so far, and all the assets are built with what was shipped with the game, so there's no strange art style clashing or anything, and everything does look nicer. Only downside is they removed the DMR, which was one of the most satisfying weapons in Halo 4, but the sandbox does feel a little tighter and polished now. I might go with this for my full playthrough.

If I could put Genesong's Prometheans and Promethean weapons into Mythic's Overhaul, that would be the ultimate Halo 4 mod.

Infinite is WAY better than 4, it tries some new things, some of it works, a lot of it doesn't. H4 is just bungie halo but way worse
Like I appreciate that most of Infinite's guns are good, I like the idea of higher mobility, I like the idea of Chief getting multiple abilities instead of relying solely on juggling pickups. Infinite if it had the ambition to be more than an ubisoft open world with a few linear levels attached could've been great

Most of the discussion about 4 isn't trying to trick people into thinking it's better than it was. Rather it's more dumpster diving through the trash that is the game and identifying the few things that do work or could have worked better despite the game at large. Taking a beloved story like this one and sending it in a new direction was a bold move, but from what we’ve seen so far it looks like it might just pull it off.

The model swap thing 343i did with Infinite is probably the only smart thing they ever did. It allows you to introduce "new" guns and not touch the game's balance.
You can both have 10 magnum models in a single game and it not breaking the game.

Microsoft would probably not allow it either since they need the battlepass piggies to spend money on the cosmetics 24/7. But I personally think the reputation boost from an actual expansion pack would make people more interested than small tiny map updates. A decent chunk of the current Halo fanbase are SP only player and new SP content would probably be more popular than MP stuff. They have already made a decent amount of new 3D assets and textures for the MP map updates so transferring them to small new SP zones and biomes wouldn’t be impossible.

I gave up on this mod before the end of the first level. The gameplay feels like a mix between Reach, Halo 2, and Halo 4.
You die REALLY fucking fast, enemies are very aggressive and their projectile and firing speeds were buffed significantly.
Maps are all super open killboxes with sparse checkpoints. So fuck you when a super fast fuel rod or brute shot snipes you.
Jackals don't reliably flinch. I don't know if this is because the carbine(your only headshot gun) is shit, or if they changed the AI behavior. Either way, they're annoying to fight.
There's still fall damage.
A lot of effects are missing, good luck knowing if you're in a bubble shield or not.
None of the ODST-specific features are used. Why is this in ODST?

Yes it did. It's using the H5 ones.
All they need to do is add the equipment animations which would take about an hour, since all 343i games use the same rigs. Could even add the third person animations too with no effort.

Why don't you guys play on Easy first? I don't think these mods are balanced for the regular masses who need a tutorial on how to crouch and jump. They're balanced for us. We've already beaten Legendary in all the campaigns, and so have the modders and community that plays these mods, so Easy here might actually be Heroic level difficulty for us. If you jump straight to Legendary, it's probably more like Ultra Nightmare and full of bullshit equivalent to how we felt about Halo 2's Legendary Jackal snipers on launch, but readjusted at a higher standard because we know how to deal with them, so now there's a new challenge. Probably for replayability purposes so we don't get bored by the games being too easy. Even SPV3 and Ruby's Rebalance mods felt tougher than usual on easier difficulties, especially due to the increased ranges. You have less breathing space in these mods because the modders have higher expectations of us and expect us to react and think faster.

Easy is the new normal.

You are right for gold Elites, but I don't think they're ever seen using Fuel Rods. It and the Concussion Rifle are outliers because the rest of the Elite-used weapons share a similar color palette.

IMO the game gets worse if it gets "more like classic Halo" in the sense that most guns simply can't compete with the BR. I never had a complaint with Infinite's general idea of weapon balance as its own thing, and the ides of changing it in a big way now as the game is winding down to be more like the OGs rather than letting it roughly exist as it was sits strangely with me, but I'll wait to see patch notes

I would actually nerf the BR to be honest. In Infinite they buffed the scope range and accuracy it feels like. The damage was nerfed a little but I wouldn't even complain if they required an extra burst or two to kill. But the scope range still needs a nerf. I don't understand this race to get as long range as possible. Not every weapon needs to compete against the sniper rifle. And yes I would even nerf the sniper rifle.

Reduced strafe speed might be the most signinficant update so far. Infinite has too much emphasis on aiming. It was way easier to track and hit stuff in older games. Nowadays everything is so fast and schizophrenic so this is a welcome change. I've even had to readjust my sensitivity to look faster but that makes aiming at distant targets harder and this game loves its long distance engagements. Hate having to pick between one or the other.

Funny, I've always perceived this as something that'd be good for mouse over co troller. Manual aim really struggles with reacting to instant, jittery movement. Team fortress is a game where mouse aim is "easy" and that's a game where grounded movement has some weighty ramp up

With the extra mobility and faster base speeds in Infinite, when you get into CQB, sometimes the enemy can end up behind you in an instant, so the only way for me to react fast enough for that is with a mouse. On gamepad in older Halos I play on a slower sensitivity, but most CQB in those games is full-auto into a melee or dealing with a shotgun/smg. You don't really end up in a situation where the guy you're closing in on ends up suddenly behind or above you.

But in Infinite anything can happen. It's like Apex Legends where everyone has a lot of health and moves fast and sporadically. At least compared to traditional Halo.

Uninspired maybe but we have gotten exceptionally ugly helmets in the past for this game so it's nice to see some tamer stuff coming from 343 that does resemble classic Halo even if it's only a little. Right after 3 was when cod4 took over the industry so Halo's time in the sun as the accessible casual shooter was more or less gone forever. When I've gone back to play Halo with friends who didn't experience it growing up they often struggle to see the appeal.

So I tried out that "new covenant" mod but I think it was the cutscene when I smelled a familiar stench. if you want Halo to "come back" in a big way I think you should look at something like Doom.

The Nudoom games are pretty much their own thing. There's continuity in plot and some ways in spirit, but those developers are more than anything just making singleplayer games that they're interested in, vocally holding innovation as a key point for them. And it's working. Doom isn't the biggest thing ever like it was when it first got huge, but it has relevant new games that general audiences are excited about.

You're right that the space opera spectacle was a huge part of it, but I'm going to be honest I have no fucking idea how you recover that. Setting things back to Halo CE's stakes feels cheap, it did in Infinite. 3 was a great open-ended ending. 4 and 5's stories were absymal and felt unnecessary. I think you either have to take it in a very weird and atypical direction or do a full on reboot, probably without Downes at this point

World at War came out and took the lead on XBL but ended up inevitably splitting the fanbase between CoD 4 and W@W, so Halo 3 usually held onto #1 on the list through 2009 even though CoD collectively had more players.

It could be in a different format or maybe the animation needs to be lined up with the new player model rigging. Or sometimes if you open a model you made in blender in unreal, sometimes the model will be facing the wrong direction. So maybe it's not the animation that's giving the devs a hard time, it could overly tedious or difficult to hook the animation with the right model. Or maybe the slipspace engine gives an error/crash when the animation isn't already set to the right timescale or labled correctly when they imported it, and trying to do it in engine doesn't work because the previous contractor who modified the plugin didn't code it properly because he ran out of time and got let go before the next guy could properly learn what he did so now he has to reverse engineer the code, and the comments don't make sense because they're esl due to MS's DEI hiring requirements.

The most probable reason is every single change to the game needs to get approved through a whole slog of channels, and they want to make sure they're not overspending, so finance has to do the calculations, the community manager has to add it to the patch notes which has to be cleared by his bosses, the UI director has to be contacted to get his people to work on the new UI for the fuel rod, and he's probably out right now and won't check his emails until tomorrow, and the team that's 'doing' the animation has make sure it fits their standard of animation even though it's already done, but that has a few levels of QA channels to get certification from, and then after a bunch of 'work' this animation that has finally been cleared by the animation team has to go through the official 343 QA team, which then gets cleared to get put into the patch. This patch requires a minimum of 3 months to be certified. And then it can get pushed out and released to the public.

Of course, the patch will be broken on release and introduce a ton of new bugs, despite this lengthy process.

The SPV3 devs also made their own icons. A lot of old Halo modders from Custom Edition have grown up and moved on with their families and stuff. MCC's modding tools are fairly new, so most people here are just getting started with modding. The more experienced ones are busy making their big mods. So the rest of the mods are gonna be kinda amateurish until they've built up some experience.

And getting UI to work for anything sucks ass. It's more fun to focus on the cool stuff like bringing Weapon X in to Halo Y. Even if the graphics/animations for that UI is already done. If it were as easy as copy-pasting a folder of pngs then everyone would do it. But it's such a tedious pain in the ass to get working, even for simple stuff.

I can appreciate that mod for the effort and features put into such an old engine. The problem is that it looks and plays like shit.
Also, UI icons are the easiest shit. You literally just take the icons from one game's font files and paste them into another's. Crosshairs aren't hard to port, either. The only thing that's a pain are the ammo meters, but those are usually replaced by a regular number readout in HXHY mods.

The New Covenant mod actually looks incredibly high budget for being a mod lol. The heck, it even has prerendered cutscenes. It's surprisingly polished. It's not AAA quality, but it's way higher quality than I expected.

So? You still haven't explained the issue with it.
The AR having a wider autoaim cone means that even against a moving target your crosshair will more easily snap to a target and you'll get more bullet magnetism. The AR is not hard to hit shots with at all.
