Does playing laso at lower fps make the AI a bit worse? I got to pillar of autumn on reach and got stuck on the very last checkpoint even following the guide. Enemies kept dodging my needle rifle and I eventually gave up.

No, AI action is almost entirely not tied to frame rate anymore. This was a big problem with Halo 4 especially when MCC launched, and it's part of the reason some people think it's legendary difficulty is more difficult.
The problem has been mostly alleviated. If I'm not mistaken there are still some ""sped up"" (not technically what's happening but you know what I mean) fire rates with some weapons but it' still not really an issue anymore

Wrong.
Halo 4 doesn't even call it "multiplayer."
It's just "War Games" and it all takes place on the training deck of the Infinity set about 6 months after the events of the campaign between Spartan Ops missions inside Requiem. Spartan Ops actually has a LOT of decently produced cutscenes collectively titled "Halo: Infinity"
They're done by Axis Animation which isn't quite Blur tier but it's still collectively a lengthy run time.
And yes it all got swept under the rug and resolved off screen in comics and coloring books.

Oh yeah they were going to do a "Season 2" of Spartan Ops.
But it turned out reusing the same maps over and over with encounter design rarely going beyond "a bunch of enemies are placed here kill them" wasn't a popular thing to replace firefight with. Who could have seen this coming?

What storyline is there?
There's some context, an explanation as to why multiplayer happens, but no narrative. It's not even relevant if you just play multiplayer. You'd never see it.
Meanwhile, Infinite has a cutscene that would play every season.

I'll never forget how they pushed season "1.5" as this big refresh and update to be excited for, and then it came out and in many ways was even more lazy. I recall a lot of multiplayer maps being lazily used in back to back missions.

Yeah they did make some new content for 1.5 but the recycling was probably even worse than in the first 5 episodes. Pretty sure that "Infinity" map was used 5 times in a row

It's been long enough that I have some nostalgia for it I guess, but I still don't think it's a very good Halo game when all is said and done.
The scripting was pretty cool I guess. None of the other Halo games on 360 had anything to that extent in their custom games.

Bungie intended for people to script their own gametypes when Reach was new, but those plans never came to fruition. It's how the Chess gametype was made.
4's gametype scripting had way more features and fewer limits. And the obvious weapon tuning that was added in its TU.

In all fairness every Halo game before Infinite kind of working off of its predecessor's code. The 343 games are just much more lazy about it. If you look at them "under the hood", 4 and 5 are much more just Reach+ than Halo 3 is compared to CE.

Halo 4 Heavies is pretty comfy. Unlike Reach it's way harder to get locked down because of the care packages you can call in. And vehicles are made of paper (The only downside). Oh and the maps suck, but at least you're allowed to play the game, unlike Reach's Heavies which is no fun allowed for the losing team.

The Knights feel closer to boss-like enemies in terms of tedium so having them spammed in the villain's final lair makes sense. Having them as regular enemies got stale

This is unironically my favorite book in the trilogy.
I didn't used to think that but upon rereading Fall of Reach, it really falls off after the time skip.
First Strike is good but kind of feels almost fanficky? I guess the same thing could be said about the Flood, I just thinks it's paced better and I like the marine and Zuka sub plots.
Cole Protocal and Onyx are better than all 3

This thread convinced me to actually download and try out Spartan ops.

This is actually fucking abysmal.
I beat the first chapter (5 missions) and started the next mission hoping things would improve.
What the fuck even is this? There's no penalty for dying, it's impossible to lose, but it's simultaneously the most unfun wtf experience I've ever played in Halo

Halo 3 is poorly written. It's not just Frankie. They l as a team didn't care as much. Marty is on record complaining about 3's effort in the story department on numerous occasions. The fact of the matter is they expanded 2 levels out to be an entire campaign. Things were lost in the translation. All they cared about really was creating a multiplayer experience that improved on the previous games while also closing out the story enough, and in my opinion they succeeded at both of those things.
The universe building took a back seat though and got completely fucked enough for 343i to come in and take things in an even more retarded direction.

By the time 3 - Reach came around, Bungie wasn't really even Bungie anymore. 3 was the other quarter of a half finished game and ODST while Kino did not deserve the $60 fucking price tag they slapped it with. And Reach is still the worst Halo game.

The only fun mission I actually remember from Spartan Ops was the one where you have to find Thorne, mainly because you can easily hijack the first wraith + it has an RvB easter egg that gives you gravity hammers instead of rockets/lasers. Also be prepared to fight through the Infinity about 10 fucking times like >>512221847 said. There was also one outdoors mission much later down the line where you have to hold out against prometheans whilst in a Mantis, but the main thing I remember about it is that the player FOV is zoomed in, for some reason.

Aren't they kind of mid-tier/bad right now? IF it's more of the same but faster matches, then that's great. I just recently started turning off voicechat and so far the experience is about the same but without annoying background music or friends chatting with each other about non-Halo stuff while in a match. That's all I want. Faster match searches. It would also be nice to play BTB in CE and 2. I don't think the playerbase being better or worse would fix something like Reach's Heavies gameplay, but it would increase the population for other Halo games so that's always a plus. Might get more newbies, but we'd also get some tryhards too so it would balance out.

You're forgetting it's a Microsoft IP. Halo has always been boned in every direction by them. Look at how rushed H2 was. Look at how much content has to be cut just to ship the game in a functional state because it was forced deadlines. Look how Bungie turned out even during their time under the corp. Well yeah like I said story wise I agree but multiplayer wise
I kinda find myself enjoying more modern halo mp. 4 tried balancing the vehicles a bit more to mild success but I rather enjoyed the concept of the mantis. It felt like something like a natural progression of what was already there. I thought the infection mode sucked though and the custom load outs felt too much like cod
5 had some top tier physics, got rid of the load outs, was extremely fun for griffball imo and I thought was way better than people gave it credit for. It made me feel a lot more like the Spartans of the books than any halo before that did.
Infinite brought back armor abilities as pickups instead which was cool imo, things like the grappling hook were great additions and the game play is fine. I absolutely hate that armor is locked behind a paywall and thats the main thing that keeps me from enjoying it as much.

Custom games were fantastic and I actually grew up with halo 3, I played the shit out of it growing up. I remember fondly all the good times I had on it.
But when it came out to PC I realized that it's not exactly aged great. Like I can't believe I paid 800 msp for the legendary map pack when the only map people even played on was fucking avalanche and I'm gonna be honest avalanche SUCKS. Ghost town was way cooler but never got anything outside of infection and I think occasionally swat? And blackout was an okay map but it was just halo 2s map with the lights turned off.
Honestly all the dlc maps were kinda rip offs since they rarely appear in matchmaking and the default designs of them are kinda bad like I hate default Sandbox. I hate longshore being asymmetrical and I feel like it's another map you only see during infection and maybe once in a blue moon you see it for btb.
Honestly speaking I think they kinda peaked with the heroic map pack even though everyone hated it at the time

It's grown on me over the years. But very clearly 343's first bumpy steps on the road. Yeah, the art style shift is borderline atrocious in parts, but I never found myself hating play it or Spartan Ops.
Gameplay obviously could've been refined in sequels to be something better, also feels like 343 was too quick to flesh out their own version of the Halo universe so soon after 4's ending, instead of letting it grow out naturally resulting in messes.
Everything that came after was mess after mess in their own ways and in retrospect, sorta made 4 look better in the long run even if I wouldn't consider it in my top 3 halo games.

I know they are. They had the tools to make good decisions, but decided not to. Bungie was just allergic to weapons that fired straight. Halo's sandboxes wouldn't have been so shit if some of the guns could hit people outside of punching range.

Playing Recon Slayer back when it was new enlightened me. Even though the silenced SMG still does the same amount of damage as a regular one, it felt way better to use and could kill things because it had perfect base accuracy. Reach almost had the right idea, but the AR's bloom reset too slow, making the weapon feel clunky as a result.
343 tried to remedy this with 5 and Infinite, but they tuned the weapon damage too high. Burst fire is barely a factor(and with Infinite's AR, a detriment because you get some extra recoil whenever you stop firing) so you just point and hold the trigger until something dies, regardless of range.

Would it be better to reduce the spare ammo found on rocket launchers and add few rockets ammo boxes throughout the map?
Would encourage people to move around instead of just hoarding the power weapon.

You're still denying your opponent if there's ammo packs. It's more important to deny your opponent the power weapon than it is to get extra ammo. If you want to encourage more dynamic play then faster movement, faster weapon spawns and a stronger objective-focus are ways to do that.

But like the other anon said, it's not going to prevent anyone from "hoarding" a power weapon. At most, you'll have it be less impactful because the guy will use his 2 rockets and die before getting to the ammo box, and empty weapons despawn. IIRC, the sniper pickups give a ton of ammo. They're also way harder to see.
Just put weaponson faster timers if you're worried about one player having it for too long.

The easter eggs are surprisingly good. With CE and 2, I tend to slip into auto-pilot with how ritualistic my runs are now that I've played them so much. Running into a secret area or activating mysterious console that were never there before in all my years of playing gives it such a refreshing sense of exploration. I have a schizo theory that it’s due to the Hydra launcher. Both fire slow moving “not quite rockets” and the brutes in the Infinite campaign uses the hydra similar to how brutes used to use the brute in past campaigns. There is even a banished skin for it that makes it look eerily similar to the brute shot. Pic related.

Infinite is being taken out to pasture the same way Halo 5 was after 343i abandoned it and re-released MCC on PC.
Now that's happening again except on Nintendo and Sony.
You can just tell from the battle passes that it's unlikely 343/HS has developed any new content for Infinite in a long time now.

I could be persuaded to move the sidekick down a tier but it's a very well rounded gun in both campaign and multiplayer. It's good enough that you can pretty much just use only it to kill everything that's not a vehicle if you have the ammo but not to the extent that it breaks the game.

He made the chart to compare the pistols/magnums against each other, not the SMGs. I like ODST too but even I know the automag isn't as versatile as the others. It has a nice place in the sandbox, so it doesn't need to try to be the best at everything like some of the other ones.

I think Reach is probably my favorite in terms of how it compares to the rest of the sandbox in its own game. Good enough at mid-range but not oppressive, so you still want to pick up a longer range weapon to deal with the scoped rifles. Good enough for close quarters, especially as a finisher, but you will still get beaten out by proper CQB weapons. Feels balanced.

Tiers A and S are too strong. I don't like mganums being a primary weapon, they should be finishers/starters that you replace. Same with the AR. AR is too strong in Infinite. Bandit too. You should want to drop a starter for a better weapon. Not use it the whole match because it's that good.

Which are supported by Grunts and Jackals 90% of the time. Brutes drop Plasma Rifles all the time, and make shield stripping extremely easy. As a tool, most people don't use it properly because they expect everything to be mindless utility weapon spam. When used appropriately within the sandbox, the Automag is probably the best weapon to have on you if you don't have a power weapon.

Another problem is the CE Magnum not being top tier, because it is good against everything. The image was lazily thrown together. Likely for trolling, because this general is full of attention whore faggots.

CE is the best one because of the skill gap between a good player and a bad one. Magazine size feels right too.
Halo 4's has a place as a headshot weapon if you're starting with an auto primary. It's niche but it has a place.
ODST and Halo 3's kinda suck because you'll just replace them with Carbine or BR (for Halo 3). Halo 3 is probably better because the dual-wield is a budget BR replacement in AR-start modes.
Halo 2's is pathetic and Halo Reach is awful because of bloom, makes the thing random and spammy. Awful.

Barely played H5 so I don't feel confident judging its magnum. Haven't played Infinite.

It is extremely powerful but it's only "OP" now. See back in the day you were playing on a pretty small tube TV split 25% or 50% on average with people in the same room. It's not so easy to lead shots on 4 inches of TV. CE being online ruined a lot of things other than the pistol. A vehicles especially a full tank, would be a stressful event for you. Now you can one man team any vehicle.

The biggest thing I've really noticed is how back in the day the pistol was good, but only if you were actually good. Other weapons could still be effective to use, now it's 90% pistol. I remember back in the split screen days the pistol was maybe 50 to 60% give or take.

Somewhat, but you were also limited to playing with people in your immediate area back then. Nowadays, high level CE is almost all pistol, and the people still playing have gotten good. Original CE, too. On real Xboxes and CRTs.

The AR sees use for all of its secondary functions, the plasma pistol is barely on any maps, the plasma rifle might as well be a power weapon with how powerful the stun is, and the needler sucks.

It's pretty balanced, moreso than any other Halo game. The only truly worthless weapon is the needler. Everything else has situations, even at high level, where you would want to have a non-pistol weapon out. You can't say that about any later game with its BR or DMR.

Think it was the way the modder(s) programmed it. Looks like it's spiker projectile with a ton of damage, and then it explodes (where the explosion has the physics stuff). If it wasn't an oversight or skill issue, maybe it was for balance or sandbox purposes. Considering that it does a ton of damage on a single point, followed by an AOE, maybe they didn't want it knocking around enemies too much since we already have the Concussion Rifle for instant physics shenanigans. A few other Infinite weapons in this mod don't act exactly the same as the originals. So maybe it's an engine/skill issue, or maybe they decided to balance stuff a certain way to make the weapons fill their own niche since there's a ton of them.

The balance in this mod is kind of weird already, it doesn't play like any particular Halo, like it's trying to do its own thing. But somehow they still manage to make most weapons feel unique and actually feel useful. The ravager projectiles for example actually have some AOE physics knockback. By giving the ravager that feature but not the skewer, it does make the skewer feel more like a mid-range sniper rifle and the ravager more like a closer quarters brute force weapon, moreso than the original which felt underwhelming in Infinite. I do like the skewer in Infinite though, it definitely feels weird in this mod since the projectile is so slow and it's not as satisfying when you hit your shot and not get any knockback on hit. But all skewers here have the explosive round, so maybe that's how they balance it.

I think he means the knockback to the ragdoll on hit. It kills instantly in Infinite, so when they die they get knocked back a bit when they fall and ragdoll. In here it doesn't have any effect even when they are killed on hit, it just goes into the death animation.

In fact, in Infinite you can shoot your teammates with the skewer and it will knock them away despite not doing any damage.

I think it's more that it had a bit more dialogue than I would have liked. And some of the voices don't really match up with the atmosphere or felt unnecessary, despite being bigger budget. I don't like the Gravemind being able to speak, and his rhyming quirk makes him feel like a fairy tale trope whenever those types of stories introduce a mysterious, old, all-knowing character, so it's hard to take him seriously. His dialogue took me out of it and actually made me fear the Flood less. The Flood in CE felt intelligent despite them not speaking which made them much scarier because they appear to be zombies but are too organized to be mindless.

Same issue with some of the Covenant. I already know they have extremist views with their religion and it was very alarming in CE because not only were they alien, but they were hellbent on wiping us out because of some alien religion. But hearing the prophets and that council getting preachy in English felt so corny, like it's no different from our ways. It lost any mystique it had with CE. That whole 'Heretic' part at the beginning really was just too much, especially when they swapped back and forth between the Covenant and the UNSC. The symbolism and tropy storytelling feels a little forced, like it's trying to be more than it is. I don't like the more fantastical/epic Hollywood-style dialogue and storytelling. CE felt more realistic in terms of its dialogue and not overdoing it.

And in combat, the Elites just don't feel as serious when they're like, haha, I have slain the demon! It makes them feel dumber.

I think the most awkward dialogue is Lord Hood. He sounds too bored and unconcerned to be fighting for humanity's existence. There's no hint of tension in his voice at all. It's like he just showed up for a normal day of work but he's still tired from his nap.
