>>511889762This is a complete lie and demonstrates why fighting games need more single player content.
In the 90s we had no online to play fighting games against other people, we had no rollback, fighting games had to sell themselves on being fun to mash buttons in and play on their own. Because of this home releases used to have more content with actual thought put into it like Soulcalibur's mission battle, Tobal's dungeon quest, or Mortal Kombat's many different modes. Of course it wouldn't matter if the games weren't already just fun to mash buttons and dink around in, but they were. Many of us learned to appreciate fighting games just by putting a quarter in the machine and playing it and knowing that there was a bit of a learning curve, yeah, you couldn't just throw fireballs by pressing a button, you had to do an input. They were already fun to play but made us WANT to learn how to do special moves and supers, which, once we did, gave us a greater feeling of catharsis.
Fighting game devs and fighting game players have forgotten what this genre was. They'll use simpering excuses like "iTz NoT da 90s AnyMoRe AnD wE ReZpEcT TranSfReaKs" as a handwaving excuse for why the games are shitty, boring and esports focused.
>>511920940>They perfected their formula you guys! That's why every game after Melee was just a shittier version of Melee!Do you realize how dumb you sound
