combined with the buffs to crests it's putting m+ in a pretty good spot EXCEPT the dungeon pool is ass garbage and the game suffers from obtuse mechanics and horrible standard nameplates, party frames etc that force people into addons

Yes. They need to just scrap it and redevelop dungeons to fit in a new playstyle layout. Make them like 7-8 players with only one tank and healer required to ease the role issues.
The key thing is to make the difficulty around MoP challenge mode that that's it and make them piss easy to get into with a queue. If people fuckup and fail give out pity rewards that aren't total shit to ease player friction.
The game doesn't need to be made harder than that until the player numbers rebound, then you can start having those conversations.
This is just one example of something new to mix it up. I have absolutely no idea why the devs don't try something like this or something else entirely. just. add. something. new.

the challenge mode nonsense is to compensate for an actual lack of dungeons.

world of warcraft vanilla had something like 30-40 dungeons. i forget the exact count. burning crusade had around 15. wrath of the lich king had 16, cataclysm had 10ish, then mists of pandaria had around 6, and that number has stayed steadily low ever since, with legion being an exception at 13 (and also generally the highest effort expansion since wrath).

they have been decreasing the content count and padding play time with difficulty sliders and affixes and treadmill upon treadmill in lieu of actual content because frankly they just dont have the output that they used to

Congratulations, you've pointed out the only difference between M+ and dungeons. The random weekly affixes.
Meanwhile Delves have multiple scenarios for each instance. The instances themselves on top of the exclusive cosmetics, Zekvir that can jump you mid run who's also got his own optional Delve and then the rotating Zekvir elites with their own affixes that spawn on high difficulties. All on top of the effort that they've put into Brann and are still updating going into future patches with giving him new skills and a spec.

Delves easily have more variety than M+ does. It also helps that you Delves ae much shorter on average than your typical+ run. Throw in the fact you're not required to do them with other people, only if you want to and can entirely do them at your own pace. Delves on paper respect your time far more than M+ ever will and that's probably why casuals don't burn out on them as quick as they do the Maze

Your post is a bit too hyperbolic to me but the general sentiment is true. Classic+ will not be as crazy as SoD. Also SoD took heavy inspiration from retail and is a huge reason it wasn't as popular.

Blizzard is finishing up retail while figuring out how to effectively monetize Classic without pissing people off next time. It's only a matter of time. Classic+ is a matter of when, not if.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say Classic+ will be their version of WoW 2. Retail story is beyond bloated and you get a very hefty reset with Vanilla story.

Just finished the 11.1 main quest on the PTR.
Plot ends with Gallywix being abandoned by Xal'atath cause he managed to let the Dark Heart get stolen by Ethereals after Gallywix repaired it. While Gazlowe leads the Goblin revolution of Undermine with the other Trade Cartel leaders, leading into the raid while the main expansion plot continues in another patch.
Maybe IridiGOD can finally show up so we can have a successful villain soon

Orewyna's on a spirit quest given by Azeroth to save it. She with (you) proceed to investigate the shady things going on with the Goblins, leading into 11.1 after basically accepting she has to break her peoples traditions and the elders traditions.
Where she continues her spirit quest from Azeroth, this time far more in the open and no longer hiding, but her plot isn't finished in Undermine and she's obviously being set up as a main character going into the final zone, where the Harronir are likely to be.

Ultimately there's still more planned for her and it's one of the reasons why Rootlands is likely to still happen, because they've gotten all the Harronir to have unique voice actors for their NPCs and the fact her plot is still on-going.

the whole trope of introducing new evil factions but there's also a small rebel subset of the evil faction that isn't as evil and you team up with them needs to fuck off and never return, it completely ruins the flavor of the game

they arent "putting in less effort", they lost like 2/3's of their staff, including most of the Sr staff and after dragonflight lost yet another wave over internal office scandals and then the return to work bullshit where blizz wanted people to come back into the office, including workers who were hired remote and worked and lived out of state, and the majority of them said no, leading to a lot of resignations as well, like half the dragonflight team is gone now.

the churn and brain drain going on with the warcraft team the last 2 years has been insane, its frankly surprising wow is even still running and that they were able to ship an expansion.

You see so much stuff about Ethereals because Ethereals have been Xal'atath's generic minions since the pre-patch.
As far as story direction is concerned, there's more points towards Harronir having a final zone focus, than going to another planet randomly, because Ethereals are working on Xal'atath doing her bidding with her current goal underground.
What is Xal'atath's main goal in base line 11.0? Using the black blood all around the underground to fuel the Dark Heart.
Who's storyline is actually about the black blood and the one that actually introduces that storyline in 11.0? Orweyna. Who got the dedicated questline in 11.0.7, setting up for 11.1? Orweyna. What's 11.1's main plot? The Goblins are mining Black Blood and Gallywix is repairing the Dark Heart. Orweyna's arc doesn't end in 11.1 and the Black Blood and Dark Heart shit continues.
There's far more signs pointing towards there being a zone ending that like the Rootlands, than suddenly everyone goes to Karesh despite the Black Blood being the main plot beat of the expansion.

The only thing Ethereals have going for it, is the fact they got a bunch of new NPC models that are likely planned to be reused as fodder between now and Midnight.

Midnight's a far better guess for Karesh. Upper Eastern Kingdoms is limited in itself with options they could do for post launch content. Slapping on an alien world then makes far more sense than going.

Quel'thalas leading into Karash as late patch content makes more sense from a narrative point, if you assume that they'd want to recapture that Legion spark of having you invade the home world of those who just invaded you.

Choregast could have been really good if it was optional for alts for leggo acquisition. Most people don't realize that the legendary acquisition in SL was a direct response to the problems of legendary acquisition in legion. As much as many of us will fan boy over legion most of us recognize that legendary acquisition in legion was garbage. It unfairly punished pure DPS classes and people who multispecced.
Let's say you were playing outlaw rogue in legion and you got a legendary for outlaw, then the devs come in and nerf outlaw, you're now stuck with that leggo playing that spec. You could swap your loot spec to assassination, but now you're not getting outlaw gear you may need on the off chance a leggo will drop.
Let's say you're tanking and a buddy needs a DPS trinket from a dungeon that you could give him. Do you really want to swap loot specs to maybe give him that trinket knowing that a DPS leggo could drop that you would have no use for?
SL did fix this, but they shouldn't have made you run it 10 times per alt per leggo.

Question: What are those addons right in the middle of the screen that show me fresh cooldowns ready to use?

I have started playing again after a 3 year break and gotten to lvl 80 on my tank warrior recently. Honestly, I feel overwhelmed by the tons of different buttons, cooldowns and interdependant abilities.

It's just "too much" in the sense that I somehow get by without utilizing the entire toolbox I have available to me, but it feels shitty because I know others are just better in every regard because they have everything set up: their cooldowns, every aspect of the interface, their keybinds and so on...
Does anybody else feel like they're literally juggling over a dozens of abilities while jumping through hoops with their ass on fire?

Anyway I didn't want to throw the towel just yet and decided to actually git somewhat gud. I figured it would be important to have the most important cooldowns on my screen at all times, so I'd like to know which addon the guy in the video is using.
Also, if any of you play prot warrior, feel free to share any advice youve got.

I'm currently doing delves and mostly just spam thunder clap/shield slam/revenge, but all the shouts + shield charge + execute is all a bit much for me.
Maybe I'm just getting old.

I have customized my hotbars to look somewhat like bartender. Ignore the absolute mess on my keybinds, they've been shit for 80 levels and I rearrange them daily i guess.

I can however not find any kind of cooldown tracker in the edit mode like weakauras would be supposed to do.

They are barely affixes now, you do them to get buffs and most of them resolve on their own
We used to have to deal with dangerous affixes to prevent a group wipe or they required you to pull differently
