I’m not a sci fi fan at all, but if you enjoy BioWare rpgs, definitely play mass effect. It also has some fantastic companions.

Mass Effect 1 can be a slog, but get through it, and 2 and 3 have much more modern combat and are more fun to play. 2 has an amazing cast of companions too.

Not that guy but as someone else who also hates pace slop. The worldbuilding is almost always lackluster, no thought given to characters of different species might view things differently and how human society will look in x amount of years in the future and what effect space travel and medical advances wil have on greater human culture.

If people are able to live til they are say 150 now will society be more conservative for it? What will family units look like if have 6 lots of grandparents still alive? When are people expected to retire? what jobs could the elderly do that robots couldn't do better? how much financial strain do they put on their families?

All those questions from just one aspect of a futuristic society and its like that for every aspect of the game or whatever media that spaceslop is in.

Star trek and I guess outer worlds are two I can think of that do a decent job of discussing greater societal changes but could be better. You can get around it by making your space world some what post apocalyptic like Rimworld or Starwars but I still find those leaving room to be desired.

I forget what ME's codex is like but that sounds like stuff you could just put in that. Dragon Age's is the best ever for stuff like that. You get so much world building and information just from the codex and how it's written with the entries being sourced from in-game characters with their own biases and stuff.

I find Inquisition's main quests to be mostly decent to good (other than Here Lies the Abyss, which feels like it's cramming in as many elements as possible from previous games without doing anything interesting with them), but the overall progression sucks balls.
Unlike with the Blight in Origins there's no sense of encroaching menace with Corypheus, he starts off quite powerful and then gradually declines as you foil his plans again and again, until by the end it feels like you're putting a demented old man out of his misery rather than mounting a last ditch effort to take down a godlike threat.

I might be going against popular opinion here, but after just completing DAI, I think the ending of Trespasser feels more impactful with a Trevelyan (or any non-elf) Inquisitor; since you are proving him wrong about non-elves and showing that the World (in it's present state) does have worth.

It makes the redemption ending of DATV even more damning since Solas hasn't actually changed his views. He just got talked out of his plan by his two elf ex-girlfriends.
