Summary on my efforts to FOMO the 20th anniversary after I discovered it existed last night (resubbed):
I cannot make it past a point in chapter 2 of the main story because I haven't done 20 introductory quests in Zuldazar.
The meat of the story quests are long flights back and forth between zones. Frequently I dragonflew 6km only to dragonfly 6km back again.
I once got stuck underwater and could not remove my dracthyr head from a metal grate texture.
I cannot get the "Detective" title or achievement because I need to either a) access shadowlands, b) access shadowlands, or c) complete all 4 chapters of the story. I cannot do any of these in time.
I cannot get the "The Originals" achieve because the dragons alternate spawn days and I am one day short. This achieve comes up every anniversary and is not unique to the 20th.

It's still played cause it's one of the only recognizable MMOs on the market still. Not because it's good.
GW2, XIV, SWTOR all of these MMOs are practically "dead" with under a million total players but they're still technically alive cause they still have people that log in. Retail is the same way.
There's a bunch of single player games that have more daily logged in players than WoW. Sad but it is what it is.

M+ is dead, nobody wants to raid, the story is shit and professions, delves and pretty everything is just an expensive timesink or a chore. Who is thia game for? Why is Blizzard making those retarded changes? Serioualy I don't see anything alluring to make me want to resub, I can only see people playing as streamers, e-celebs, people with Stockholm syndrome and retards that can't stop farming mogs and cheevos for their sunk cost fallacy.
This expansion is as bad as Shadowlands, it's Shadowlands without borrowed power.

The design mechanics might not be quite as bad as shadowlands, but it's bad enough that's it's doing damage like shadowlands did and scaring players off en masse like shadowlands did.
It's rough. Pretty sure this expansion is toast, going to be just like shadowlands again where this S2 will be even more dead than S1 and then by the time the devs get to S3 they'll have panic changed and nerfed a bunch of shit to try get people back in.

Well the real honest truth is because the devs are incompetent retards who literally don't know what they're doing and are running the game into the ground. So realistically, under the assumption of capitalism where a company would want to make the most money possible while maintaining a successful business, their best course of action would unironically be to listen to some of the players who play and understand the game better than they do to make the game as popular, successful, and lucrative, as possible.

But of course that's a pipe dream cause we live in a clown world where low IQ shitty people get promoted to positions of power based on DEI ideologies and simply want to promote their personal or political agenda and nothing more, at the cost of everything around them.

Retail fails these points hard, and no, m+ is not replay value you mazed fucks. And I don't know if this would go in graphics, but many customization options and mounts and shit are so over the top they ruin the whole setting.

The whole new artstyle they've been using to develop everything from zones to architecture to enemy design to NPC and player models to mounts to animations to armor and weapons, everything all looks so shit, so cartoony and over the top that it absolutely ruins the whole setting and game feel.
It fails hard on that point also.

Is it true that originally Blood DK was a DPS spec before it was changed to a tank spec? I feel like it plays significantly different than the other tanks, especially with the hero talents available to it. It's much more 'aggressive and offensive' feeling than the other tanks, if that makes sense. DH is close but IIRC veng DH does most of its damage through goofy glyphs you put on the floor.

probably to split the playerbase across more zones, rather than everyone spamming northrend
kinda funny that on day 2 of the expansion a decent portion of the population was stuck in hellfire fucking peninsula rather than the new content
they pulled the same shit in TBC with Belves/Draenei too, right back to the Barrens whilst everyone is enjoying the new stuff, it also took a long time to level back then and they hadnt made the xp reduction and new quest hubs (took until 2.3 for 20-60 xp to be nerfed)
cata had the same, although the 1-60 world was new so wasnt as bad
mop was the same with monks/pandaren i'm fairly sure, although you had way more xp buffs and heirlooms by then
after that they funneled you to the new content straight away

problem is that part of the game hasn't been play tested by anyone with a clue in at least a decade.
people think tanks need to "learn" when there are plenty of situations to "learn" if you actually go out in the world. going from the world where you have zones where you can pull a boat load of elites to get a feel for what should be a casual dungeon should be damn near seamless. next to that a dungeon is going to be where you're in a little more than green gear and pull another 1/2 elites because of the kill speed and healer. if it's "casual" then make it casual. if it's not then get it on a tighter tuning track with higher gear floors without players who are supposedly "learning" getting cooked by negative scaling.

right now what you get is the result of years of spreadsheet monkeys who just ignore the level 10/11 scaling trash entirely and create bipolar and unfun situations. if you don't get one of these broke characters and get one of the players who don't gear themselves any outside of drops it just mud. you're going from 1 dungeon where the practically whole thing is being kited and the next the tank is either barely pulling three elites for 30 minutes like some blindly tacked on 30% more hp and auto damage to make up for all the low levels facerolling. then tacked an "endgame" reward to justify it being shit.

the instability is the thing, like they don't understand the players failing their way up keys on the backs of better players. fun dungeons shouldn't have that recreated they should be closer to something like a tank led diablo 3 greater rifts style where the gap from 3 "good" players to 5 isn't being magnified by gear on top. all the people getting lost or the trolls who go off to pull shouldn't be a big deal casual mode. the floor should just be heavily on dps. you get good at dps then add in more defensives. instead you get people "learning" when it's not them as much as the tuning that means a new tank is a huge negative.

I've gotten all 13 classes fully honor geared, takes like 2-3 hours and that's without using the flask or getting crafted pieces with the 9 heraldries.
It's like 6-8 more hours to become fully BiS'd out, however. Only done that on my main.

Is it worth coming back if I don't care about mythic? I guess LFR and heroics (if people even do these) are my best bet, although I am missing a lot of content and possibly the entire point of the game. I used to raid and do arena all day years ago, something about the mythic system, time limits and gearscore/raider io elitism rubs me the wrong way. A friend of mine is 15+ on all keys((?) and says if you aren't a meta class you're essentially out for the season if you don't have patient friends.

Realistically what can be done to save M+ at this point? It's very much a dying game mode and people are preferring just to go Delving instead of pushing keys. I think it would be a good move to try to reduce the complexity, especially for tanks. You really shouldn't have to watch several guides on Youtube and memorize the path before hopping into a key, I think that's pretty poor game design.

I would play more. For me I really like playing my class and going pve stuff, but mythic+ doesn't really interest me because I don't like how sweaty it is, and finding groups just isn't fun for me dealing with super picky parties (or setting one up yourself and never be able to find a tank/healer). So I'd even love some kind of super long term grind (complete 500-1k delves per season to acquire this cool recolor of a past mythic raid set that won't be available again)

The raid was not designed for you. It's boring, too hard and unrewarding. The dungeons were also not designed for you. This is the worst M+ season for a reason and season 2 is shaping up to be even worse. Delves were good at the start, now they're just hot shit. if you're talking about battle pets stage for the felcycle, I'd get wickerpup, spyragos and then any one thats recc on wowhead. buy the stones to upgrade to rare and get to 25 from the garrison vendor (there might be another thats just the one I knew of). I lucked out cause my old alt had a lot of pet charms I never redeemed. warband helped me with that stage.

for the altar stage you don't need to farm the mats just stand near other people doing it with ur torch out, same for the n'zoth pug stage I think

the fight itself isn't that hard, beat him on 2nd try. funny that they made us do pet battles in the shadow realm

It's too late if you want to make money. But nothing stops you from starting crafting now. And there is a catch-up system for profession points.

prot war is kind of easy. With demolish it can be pretty low APM actually, but mountain thane is definitely more active. I personally don't like the way prot warrior plays though, especially with how it deals damage. Prot Warrior abilities feel like absolute ass to use compared to other tanks. Blood DK and Veng DH are harder to learn initially, but are WAY more fun IMO.
