Probably just reduce the values. It is a bit overtuned at the moment, but I don't buy into the outrage. Trade league sissies are just complaining about someone else getting more currency than them. Balance the stat values and it's not a big deal.

I sort of expected you to misunderstand what I was saying in exactly the way you did, so I'll elaborate.

When you have enough time to pause, it's rarely 100% guaranteed that you'll lose the character. One-shot deaths like eating a monkey slam or guillotine are different - pause covers more mundane deaths, like running out of flask charges or getting pinned to the terrain by white mobs while blue miners throw grenades at you. In these cases, you sometimes think of a way out and unpause. I think it makes for an interesting decision that sometimes challenges your personal tolerance for risk.

I think rarity is just a bad idea. Just give everyone the same amount of loot. It forces them to balance around people stacking it and then normal people can't enjoy the game because they won't find shit.

one of the absolute cornerstones of poe design is that loot behaves exactly like magic cards
there's a large and thriving market for specific cards to build any deck you want, along with a whole game mode built around that type of play
then there are tournaments, where you open a few boosters and build the best deck you can from whatever drops
there will never be a game mode for poe that violates this principle

Nah, that's your job to figure it out. But at least in poe 1, I can grind specific maps for specific cards to get the items I want. In poe 2, it's just boss drops and rest is pure rng.

the lack of RNG transparency from the Casino.
I should know the fucken odds and how to manipulate the odds mechanically in the game. fucken tired of this gaslighting guesswork shit (uh... akshully IIQ doesn't affect currency drops... I ran 10 tests and my numbers showed results that are consistent with my beliefs!)
seriously we had to deal with this gay fucken statistics shit for the past 10 years with Poe1 trying to figure out the map drop rates and then being fucked around by GGG playing stealthily with the drop rates behind the scenes to "balance it out" without admitting they made them too scarce (then admitting it because their simulation of the drop rates were wrong).
Again, no more fucken statistical gotchas! Let GGG fucken be transparent with how their mini-games of chance work.

I remember from PoE 1 that energy shield was overpowered, armor was ok and evasion was shit because it boiled down to flipping a coin like in literally every video game
and there was no additional layer unlike with mana and health

the game also deteriorated too much into speedclearing everything due to lack of stamina
whatever but I like how the passive skill tree looks
I get a funny soothing feeling in my head when I look at the curved lines

Use Pin support. It only goes down on cooldown when it hits a heavy stunned enemy. Pin makes it so it can't stun. So it never goes on cooldown.

you can't have it both ways and say that SSF is a non-competitive single player experience but then compare your experience to other people's experiences and compete on the basis of authenticity.
So if you were doing a dick swinging contest over authenticity, the most authentic player was the one that played the most difficult/realist/ruthless suffering mode for clout points.

I run this on my gemling warrior-in-drag.
But I just use it to detonate corpses so enemies can't detonate them and clean up the visual clutter.
It doesn't seem to do very much damage, though I'll sometimes nail a white and save me the trouble usng one of my excruciatingly slow attacks.

I don't think this is accurate
poe is designed to be diablo 2 gameplay with magic: the gathering loot
iirc magic prize tournaments are always ssf - no trading allowed
but people build max-power decks around broken interactions all the time for casual play
both games are balanced to be fun at both extremes

I know Chris and co were influenced heavily by MtG, but I don't believe they balanced RNG ever around SSF like Wizards of the Coast did.
Though there might be some truth in that since PoE1 didn't have a trading site for a long time. We used forum posting back then and if you thought trading was bad now, it was a million times worse before the trading site and premium stash tabs (we had to use 3rd party indexing sites like poe.xyz to search for items). I don't think trade was ever in GGG's vision outside of diablo 2's system of dropping items on the floor and hoping the other guy doesn't screw you.

I was leveling a witch for fun and wanted to really up play the fire witch infernalist theme but not really invest much into minions. I took pyromantic pact for my first ascend. Everytime is a "gotcha".
I dunno, I wish I could have fun gambling but in my mind it took a lot more effort to earn that money than it takes to spend it so the transaction always feels terrible. I just sell them for goods & services.
On a side note, it would be interesting if they replaced money with lottery scratchers. That's essentially what PoE does.

Not useful early. mainly used as a meme build where they use a spell that takes a lot of mana (or builds a lot of Infernal Flame). Then you use the spirit gem where you cast a spell whenever you lose energy shield.
You need quite a few investment to make it work. If you don't want minions then just go demonform. At least it somewhat works with no investment.

I wonder if it's possible to make an ARPG game without RNG and still have it be fun. I feel like there's more mini-games to advance power that don't require randomness. I just think the devs should assume that all the players will be unlucky (also assume that average luck is also unlucky as breaking even is not considered "lucky" to the average player).
Meanwhile unlike a casino, the house shouldn't win all the time against the players. The players should always have better odds than the house in a game; else it's just a really shitty game (while also being a really efficient casino cashing in on your time/effort and paying you back jack shit).

Only the last one is bad, and if that's the only negative in the bunch, then so be it. Grabbing a bow and going lightning arrow is the best way to level.

If you insist on a crossbow, you can play grenades if you don't mind the downtime. Otherwise fragmentation rounds are legitimately your best option for awhile, and then you pivot into either explosive shot or lightning crossbow that remain playable into maps.

That said everyone else is right just go ranger.

It would be good if they didn't decide that every node on the tree had to work in the worst possible way even if they left all the text and values the same as they are now. Sorcery Ward resetting its cooldown any time your armor and evasion values change is so fucking stupid since it already resets on damage so you're locked out of a bunch of ways to scale your defenses, INCLUDING OPTIONS RIGHT IN YOUR STARTING AREA, else you risk having 20 second cooldowns on your ward.

every reincarnation loop, you get a huge bonus, like a super-ascendancy point or something related to the high-level ascendency you just reincarnated from. Meanwhile in your next life you could pick a different class/ascendancy and keep 1 ascendancy passive from that other ascendancy (like the Forbidden Flesh/Flame jewels, but not limited to your current class). Thus every reincarnation, you get a lot more unique power and can truly make unique builds that mix and match ascendancies passives from various classes.
It's a really interesting solution to the endgame problem in RPGs that should get more attention:

Bell currently doesn't get a range increase from knockback distance. Which is obviously a fucking problem.

Whirling Assault is straight ass even with Staggering Palm and exists only to ring the bell
And if you're retarded enough to go darkness you get no spirit which means no heralds.

so next time, after the arm sweep, just fuck off somewhere else.
he can also do it twice in a row. my best advice is over gear and over level it and become a pause master.
the attack damage event happens towards the end of the attack so if you are quick enough you can pause.

Do you think skill gem requirements are where they need to be right now? Maybe its just because I want to splice some things from occult or elemental on my warrior but the requirements always seem insane. What sucks most is that the most "spliceable" thing are things like curses which can work well at the lowest available level you can get the gem. But if I wanted to splice skeleton warrior into my warrior build, it would be useless because I wouldn't be able to maintain the INT needed to level the skeleton warrior gem.

Agree 100%. There's this meta-ecosystem now that so fucking ugly and happens each league like clockwork (the div price spiking from the RMT cartels was my signal to bail the league).
The truth is if you really want to "get gud" at Poe1 and now Poe2, you should bot farm. It's the most effective strategy if you don't get caught. Otherwise you're losing at the economic game and are in service to everyone but yourself (an economic slave).
I'm glad I never RMT'd and the realization that botting is the most effective "meta" really have turned me off from any game where RMT & botting are viable (a lot of modern games with grind incentivization mechanics).
This philosophical turn really hit me lately for better or for worse...

Yeah gemling can only really get better over time as it stands and unlike a lot of the other "placeholder" ascendancies waiting for options it actually has a competitive build right now. If you want to talk about an ascendancy that's bad and is probably already at its peak, Witch Hunter already has every tool it can expect to get and it might be the overall bottom performer once accounting for all leagues.

No, I picked Gemling because I wanted to break the Support Gem system ad hard as I could, and ended up with something that feels extremely satisfying to play that still requires some effort/setup for a large payoff. If GGG don't fuck with it, Gemling is going to be my first Standard League character once the game is out of EA because it's just fun to play for me.

The REAL thing GGG need to do in order to help Merc is relook at Witchhunter and fix whatever bug stops you from shooting your Crossbow after attempting a reload every once in a while and causes you to just stare at enemies unable to do anything until you ram the reload button 5 times in a row and force him to redo the entire game action again just to shoot your damn bolts.

Breach lore is really sparse because it was one of the earliest PoE leagues.

They're demons from a different dimension and.... that's it. Breaches are their attempts to break into the world. POE2 might elaborate further on them but there's not much else to say. Xesht is apparently an amalgamation of the Breachlords so maybe they all fused into each other at some point (or were originally one Breachlord that split)

So I'm a melee player that made a Sorc to see how broken Spark felt to play, and I've postponed ascending for like 10 levels. Figuring out PoE lore is kind of a pain in the ass because a lot of the league content that had L O R E is gone, some of the league content that remains in PoE1 might have some of its context ripped out, and finally seemingly the only way to learn is through longform youtube videos

Fair then, the damage is starting to fall off in mid Act 3 to be honest but the survivability with grim feast is crazy. Once you get over that hump and have 1.5k+ mana it probably scales crazily right?

Would any of you recommend Chronomancer? Closest I've ever gone to playing magic chars in PoE has been Templar but I just said fuck it.

You FORGOT it's EA and not a complete game

You FORGOT they went on holiday.

You FORGOT that game development takes time.

You FORGOT that everyone has already posted about checks notes endgame, ascendancy, body blocking, map portals, or whatever your mind body blocks you into not being able to counter with the systems.

You also FORGOT that you are playing their creation, not yours. Let them cook!

Let's be positive, it is Christmas after all.

I got 90 hours out of an EA game and enjoyed every minute of it. I'm consumed with trophies and achievements and for this game to not have ANY and have me dump this much time into it, is quite a feat.

I say GOOD JOB GGG, if this is where early access started, we are in for the best arpg of all time.

its not so much slow down its really quick on maps the problem is the low demon flame makes you vulenerable from my build perspective of it as im scailing life regen on my tree the most with ignite, others do low demon flame and scale cast speed, curses, chaos, arcane surge some crazy builds even add archmage to this shit which is insane due to the mana cost in high demon flame so dont be put off play the build

well yeah but your damage is back to very low the spell multiplier rises as your demon flame rises and it rises 1 per second so every second you gain more damage but if you watch demon flame videos majority show the build whilst its in 60+ demon flame at the very least, i remember getting mine to 300+ with no bug use with the unique helmet and its damage is batshit insane and thats with no spell damage input into the tree but again the con is you are very weak when you first spawn in but its more of a design choice from ggg i would say allow the player to choose their demon flame starting point and flame cap because waiting at portals when you spawn in for demon flame to rise because white mobs are on your outer edge and if you move they will attack and kill you because you cant kill them is the main problem i have with it but again that could be my build problem

i dont know what you mean by heal on time of need, what i do know is you need reduced life, life regeneration rate on tree(which you max alongside ES if you want the highest demon flame) and life regen 20+ on every piece of gear that isnt unique reducing life. if you would like to explain what you mean by this i would like to hear it

I can't figure it out since I'm terrible at math & physics but the way they make use of entropy goes against the real world counterpart of it
when entropy increases solid becomes liquid and then gas
what do you think is more likely to be hit?

and as far as I can tell entropy doesn't just vanish into thin air from a system

it more or less creates the same problem as before since you don't get anything out of collecting entropy
the system is too indifferent and that makes no sense as a layer of player defense
it keeps better track of what happened in the past since flipping coins didn't but that's it

actually you get 300+ for life regen nodes alongside 20+ on gear, didnt know about the buff but if you could mix both reduce duration and life regen you get extra 166 life regen every time period you got it down to so techically 400+ life regen is doable from the witch tree i presume there is a more broken way of getting way more life regen but im too dumb to know it, reducing

I always played Trade league in PoE 1 and am bored of PoE 2 for the time being. So I started up playing SSF, and while there have been moments in early mapping that I wish I could just trade for resistances or that specific unique I need. It really does feel good to go out and earn them.
I'd always just sell something like Abyss scarabs because I didn't really run it. I'd buy the belt if I wanted it. Well having to play the mechanic and use those scarabs get 2x shit drops before finally getting an 94% increased eye belt drop felt great.
Wish I would've tried ssf before.

Everyone showed their true colors on the first 2 days of launch. Every single streamer looked like they wanted to commit suicide because of how shit the game turned out. Then they had to rewrite history and pretend that ackshually the game is good because GGG made it and GGG wouldn't make a bad game. No streamer could even come up with a single positive thing about PoE 2 other than how it helped their bank account.

Youre an idiot. +levels not only applies to the %damage scaling, it applies to the flat damage of the weapon the totem uses. Going from 20 to 27 goes from 212 to 474 top end flat phys. Going from 27 to 34 is from 474 to 1054 which is far more than double.

Yeah, SSF is honestly much more fun since it lets me interact with the whole game, rather than focus on one thing to farm currency then beat the game by just buying my gear.
SSF in PoE1 is really nice and you can honestly tell the years of work it went to to make SSF good.
PoE2 SSF on the other hand needs more work. While getting something useable gives me an adrenaline rush it's just fully RNG at the moment which sucks. I like the runes since I don't have to worry too much on having double resists in my gear but even adding more runs, or a 2nd tier runes would make SSF better.

yes that build is slow did you watch it? You cant use a mobility skill because you die if you dont precast totems ahead of you. You can never get over the atrocious base speed of the totems and they do piss al damage and cuck your mana making you go blood magic and forgoing any and all of warriors tricks like armor break, stun build up etc. Because you simply don't have enough points you end up with an extremely inflexible build that has to get massive life regen just to cast your shitty little cuck totems. Stampede is far faster, and higher dps than this and it isn't even close

PoE1 had the worst SSF experience in the entire market. I haven't tried PoE2 yet but I'm always so confused how anyone thinks SSF is good in PoE1, it's even better in fucking Wolcen which is the most dumpsterfire ARPG around.

betrayal farm in the foothills for 10 levels for most crafts
essence and rog in white/yellow maps
add in harvest when you get into red maps
a few days gearing in reds while you set up for ubers
it's pretty straight forward.

I have filtered everything but t15s and I have no problem to sustain high quant/rarity maps. You should juice your maps harder if you do. Make sure everything is 6 modded and then corrupt it. Also use quant waystones.

There's kind of a bell curve to building skill and reactions to off-meta builds where the bad players think you have to play meta and can't comprehend how to put together strong off-meta builds, then as you start getting better you get a much better idea of how to conceptualize shit and put together your own competent builds, but then when you start to understand formulas and factor in build costs and shit you start looking at a lot of these builds and picking at them like "man that's actually really slow on this budget" or "you can do the same thing with better results on this skill/layer/ascendancy instead".

The concept is very cool here but it really isn't strong, like, at all.

Campaign was fun but my god is the “mapping” unfun, no matter what endgame activity you choose wether its trials or maps it all carries the same penalty of if you die you lose it all, nobody has a chance to gear up to survive, and those that do are hoovering up all the loot and dictating the price of the gear that would allow one to survive endgame, this is really really shit game design
