I leveled one of every ascendency to 80. It's all i've been doing, pretty much. I wanted to test them all out and try one build on each. Nearly all of htem can do t15 maps to some degree, but i've mostly been playing a homebrew tornado shot build.

So after everyone was saying how broken archmage is I wanted to try out a spark sorc, and I'm currently not very happy. At what point does the build start dealing the supposed insane damage? I'm using the MoM/IC/EB setup and have 4.9k ES, 4.3k mana, 600 mana regen, 1300 ES regen and feel like I'm slower at killing bosses and clearing maps then my other chars like nade merc, while also being squishier against more stuff. Do you need the hyperexpensive items like dream fragment?

No one even cares about what zones we go to. Why do we need a world map? Hell you could probably do some kino merging of campaigns and maps and do something, you know, innovative and new. The end of each zone goes to a new zone and loop this infinitely. If you really have to have your precious story, then have campaign events just be PART of that RNG.

I haven't seen hard data but the consensus seems to be that you normally want physical damage on your weapon to be as high as possible and then if you have % increased elemental damage you are in business. Usually you want both better than 100%

Ok so I just died to Tornado Bird (as clipped above). I was level 48, 8 levels above it, but I failed the movement speed check (only had +15% on boots). I could've probably closed out Act 3, and then it'd be smooth sailing with no new surprises.

So far I can say this is the list of bs knowledge checks for Hardcore:

- Balbala hide-and-seek poison phase
- Act 2 boss sandstorm phase
- Rape Ape in the jungle
- Forgemaster DPS check (it's way higher than I expected; I was comfy killing mobs)
- Doing Ultimatum for 2nd Ascendancy, or possibly at all. Maybe it's just Tornado Bird that's bullshit.

Any other death is a skill issue that can be avoided through preparation. I think I'm ready to beat the game now.

pick up like 25% mana regen on gear or in the tree - like many stats in poe, the initial few points are the most valuable
boost your dps so you need fewer swings - the base lightning damage qstaff with two lightning runes and a couple decent rolls is good to around level 30. also get flat damage on rings and gloves and pick damage over skill speed in the tree

Splitting damage types is incredibly inefficient in this game because of this. You want to use fire infusion on your attack for full conversion

Bleed is supposed to be aggravated.
Ignite's the truly worthless one. It has the highest duration (which is useless as you'll probably be applying it constantly), has no way to increase stacks, has no way to magnify damage (like aggravate), and fire's just all round kinda shit. Fire even has a low crit chance so you can't use its long duration fishing for crits.

Forgemaster absolutely is. Even if you can predict that the boss will be timed, there's no way of knowing what DPS level it expects without trying, and it's way higher than what is necessary up to that point (especially if you're playing Hardcore and building defensively).

Rape Ape's column slam is a guaranteed one-shot (against any likely leveled character first entering the zone) that comes out fast and catches panic rolls. I was built full armor and 8 levels above and I still almost died to it. I haven't encountered any other true one-shots along the critical path.

Congrats, you got lucky. My first time I thought it had to something to do with the shiny coin and the golden circle — you know, the things you can SEE, and I was trying to interact with those while dying of poison. Tons of people like me have been blindsided by this mechanic and have felt the need to look it up after, which nothing else has compelled me to do.

The fuck is the point to the chronomancer 20% slow node? I thought I could have some fun with it and build around it, but it's not even noticeable. Monsters still seem to move the same speed. Not even going to be noticeable stacking temporal chains. 50% less penalty on uniques is retarded as well.

A legitimate problem people have is that they can't bridge the gap between nothing and complete minmaxed build. They simply do not have the knowledge to imagine any point in-between and it's cause it's extremely easy to get to T15s in PoE 2 without knowing ANYTHING about the game mechanics.

This guy is in T14 and thinks it takes 30 divines to get above 1400 life.

While I didn't go full retard, I did start prioritizing chaos resist and noticed my survivability go way up. Turns out when chaos damage is the thing that ends up 1 tapping everyone, it should be the thing you max res on first. Unforuntely with how they ported ritual from poe1 to poe2 and didn't bother redoing the offering calcuations, 99% of higher tier items will cost a gigafuckload and take 3~5 defers for you to actually be able to buy them.

Yes, it says exactly how much cheaper it's going to be. You can keep deferring to make it cheaper and cheaper but if you can buy it you should since deferring adds a flat fee that makes it more expensive cumulatively.
It's not guaranteed that it will appear on the very next ritual but soon enough.
If you've deferred once you can skip it and it will reappear a couple of times before disappearing (it will say so when that's the case with a red outline) so don't panic if you don't have enough to defer again next time.

Don't have enough points again? You can defer again by paying the 15% of the original price and getting another 10% discount.

It's super clear they haven't worked on the campaign much. Act I is great, both in how it scales and progresses. And then you get to act II and just wagon adventures where you have to click maps for half of it, I don't even want to think about act III, drowned city and that shitty zone with the witch are ltierally the worst aspects of the game, nothing but massive zones filled with nothing. Also I don't know how Diablo II did this better 20 years ago but fucking please take some advice from it and stop making me have to go back to town and talk to npcs. Also the lore is pretty stale and standard, not in a good way, It's overly grimdark and everyone has way too much dialogue, especially the bosses, tone it down. Act one, especially the last part is pure kino however.

It's the main thing that brings new players in, no one is going to be looing to join a game that's 3h of reading graphs and guides and 100 hours pressing one button while clicking on loot. Giving players that cycle of fulfillment is what matters. You believe it comes from pressing ze cuck pads before letting ze man come down from ze tree and then having to click on the character in town before teleporting BACK to the dungeon so she'll appear in the dungeon. I believe it comes from facing challenges and learning from failure. We are not the same.

It's almost as though campaignfags don't want to even ENTERTAIN the thought that maybe a campaign is unnecessary. They just prop up the strawman of "but if you don't have a campaign, you'll just have all the gear you want immediately." Anyone playing a video game has chosen to spend their time playing that computer game. Why can't that computer game be the best it could be? If GGG spent all the time they spent on the campaign on, say, some other kind of mode that makes every play experience unique to the person playing it while also introducing new mechanics to newcomers along the way.

Even tablet puzzle games that don't randomize their levels at least don't make you waste your time with dumb shit like riding the cuck elevator or taking the cuck portal just to get to your stash.
These time-wasting mechanics exist solely because "we have a heckin story to tell." Accompanied immediate after by a softly stomped foot in pride and a smug pepe look. Do away with the story and make it an all-out never-ending ARPG combat-fest. Which is what maps basically are, albeit a bit tedious at the moment due to, who knows, maybe GGG having spent so much time on the fucking campaign and not the true meat of the experience.

a bit reddit to say but Path of Exile needs a vaatividya type figure to make cinematic explanations of lore. Path of Exile actually has some really solid lore, not just flavor text on uniques either. There is A LOT of dialogue in the game that people just skip over.

The Eternal Empire, Purity Rebellion, Karui and Maraketh campaigns, into the Cataclysm and then ultimately the events of PoE 1.

Sin is a character you meet after the original ending where you attempt to beat kitava (but fail)
Before, in the overgrown vaal temple at the end of act2, you released the seal of the gods and caused them all to release back into the world slowly shaping it.
This caused your shift of defeating dominus (who exiled you), to defeating the beast (the mountain), to defeating kitava.
The beast (the same one that is being reincarnated, the fleshy heap) you see in poe2 is the same and sort of Sin's pet.

On the way of defeating the gods and end up defeating kitava (big bad), you meet Innocence, Sin's brother, and beat him. Sin saves him and they both help you to defeat Kitava and deal the final strike.

After that, Innocence realizes what damage his undying faith has wrought when combined with the madness of the beast and goes into exile himself, or rather a pilgrimage to attone for his own precieved sins for establishing the templar order.

Sin ends up with the seed of the beast (we don't quite know yet why, all that he mentions is that it was a "mistake") that the spoilers countess is trying to use to create a creature capable of killing gods, as gods are not killable, and rid the world of godhood entirely.
Originally there was some speculation about who the hooded figure was.
Pic is shaper, who is one of the additions made to the postgame in poe1 that you fight together with Zana (his daughter). It's a big thing and one of the first times they really tried to do the post-game pinnacle stuff and people fondly remember it with the entire original endgame being themed around his influence.
At the end of the elder fight(which is somewhat of a space alien entity), shaper ends up sacrificing himself to help zana seal him.
We never hear back from him.

Another very popular poe1 expansion was themed after his backstory called Synthesis league along with another fan favorite antagonist Venarius.

See, the funny thing is that I don't entirely disagree with you, but the more this debate goes on, the more I find myself being pushed to this middle ground of "the whole approach of campaign and then maps is just wrong to begin with." Maybe it's time to think outside the box and just have the entire game be ENDLESS (still level 100 cap) but randomized the whole way through. I'll meet you halfway and say there could still be story-driven moments but NO KEK PORTALS!!!!!!!!! The idea that I should have to travel through a portal to get to the other side of the zone where my stash and vendors are is a time-wasting mechanic that only exists because "enjoy our heckin beautiful story <33333"

Does that sound like a reasonable middle ground? Surely we can agree that the cuck portal is a relic of an ancient time.

2. more importantly, the campaign IS the endgame.
every enemy, boss, zone or anything is recycled campaign content. if you make a good campaign you have a lot of shit to make maps from. you can see the inverse of this in games with a bad campaign. actually you can even see it in poe2; there are only 3 acts (yes they take forever but only because they are artificially padded out) and as a result there is very little variety with enemies and maps.

We use much weaker versions of the virtue gems and we imbed them into our clothing, not our skin. Gemling Legionnaire is the first character to imbed straight into the body and that's why you get extra skill slots. Though it is odd that there will likely be no lore as to anything bad happening to you if you're a Gemling, they basically never react to ascendancies.

It's like the gods don't exist, but do. they gain power from being believed in and the amount of followers they have.

The story is more about the rule of cool and just explaining things through mcguffins, but gods power is directly associated with the amount of belief there is in them.
It can even cause humans to become gods if enough people will it into existence.

I am actually not sure on the whole seal thing, but the story is essentially the madness combined with the state of the world caused the non-existent to become real and manifest, but they have always been there, people just become aware of them.

So the map bosses up to t18s. This will irradiate all boss nodes. Then buy a breachstone, beat xesht, and take the additional breach passive. Then farm breaches until you get 40% density. By then it should be clear what to do.

You still aren't getting it. I am not against a story being told in some capacity. I am against a campaign that requires an extensive list of goofy time-wasting activities that exist for no other reason than "we have a heckin story to tell <3333" Need to go back to town? Well, make a portal, go up to the portal, arrive in "present" town, walk to the portal, wait for the animation to play of you walking into it, the screen to fade, the screen to unfade, then the animation of you walking out of it, and it is only THEN you can click on and reach the nearest vendor. Not my idea of a fun time, but hey, storyfags do you.

a hole in the story that I don't like is that there is basically no backstory as to why Sin beefed with the gods so much. We learn a bit later that they're all assholes but that's basically it.

I'm not talking about the endgame anymore. I am suggesting the very concept of maps be expanded upon, but then made the core gameplay experience -- thus replacing the campaign. This doesn't mean there can't ALSO be an endgame, but getting there would be a bit more variable than it currently is. You know, to maybe take some weight off the players who have had to, in the case of POE1, walk the two cuck beacons to their destinations for at the very least 4 times a year (granting one character per league) 7 years straight.

GGG is aggravating the fuck out of their veteran players by keeping things this way.

Good. So now they can now use all the content they made and make a kino "alternate leveling system" with it. For those who have played a long time at least. Is that too much to ask for? dont listen to the other replies, youre pretty much done with the game for now. the only good pinnacle content is xesht because you can get breachstones in a somewhat reasonable time and the fight is new. i guess you can also fight the arbiter if you play trade and can afford the tickets but be prepared to get mad when he knowledge checks you and you instantly die and your invite is gone.
everything else is very bad recycled poe1 content

Here's mine so far. I clear with Galv shards, and use them and Plasma/Voltaic to put shock on bosses, then melt with Shockburst. Seems to be working so far, but I've never made a build before so it would be cool for someone who knows what theyre doing. I will say, I'm super squishy, and have been wondering if the attack speed/dex nodes next the Herald skills should be dropped.

I think something somewhere mentions that Sin was able to ascend and maintain his humanity which is why he is way weaker compared to other gods and why he even needs us to beat the others we come across. It is probably also why Geonor was able to just stab his ass so easily. If you look at innocence, he sort forsakes his humanity until you beat kitava and he gains it back effectively. Realistically, he probably gained it out of respawning from Bannon in the last act in PoE1(who was a human with humanity obviously). So my guess is that when gods ascend, they can potentially lose their humanity and in doing so they become way stronger and more monstrous. I would guess that gods like Sin are very rare and most gods lose their humanity on ascending.

I'm a firm believer that GGG knows what they're doing. You don't end up at 12 years of growth, literally every single year, by not knowing what you're doing. Their only year of player count stagnation was in 2024, when they diverted basically all effort to the now massively successful sequel.

No matter what anyone says, I do not believe you can just fumble your way to a DECADE of success.

I wonder what the third warrior ascendancy would be? What would even fit well? I think maybe something fire damage oriented because he has all those nodes in his area related to fire and a bunch of slams also related to fire but no ascend really fit the fire theme. I know this has been the very excuse given by GGG when encountering this idea, but guess what, people playing for the first time aren't imagining themselves as being competitive in the first place. They're literally just beginning a brand new game. It would be insane for them to worry about being competitive with people who have been playing the game longer than them. Give anyone who's done the campaign (at least once) access to an alternate leveling system.

YES!!! This is basically all I'm asking for. Getting rid of the campaign, while I was legitimately considering it, is sort of an extreme ask. My slightly-more casual buddy the other day who skipped Settlers just because he didn't want to be ass-bothered with the campaign AGAIN, suggested that it was ME who was "coming up with justifications to run the campaign again." THAT'S HOW BAD IT IS GGG.

I love POE, POE2, GGG... but it's time to put the bottle down. The campaign is great but... holy fucking shit have you played it 26 times in a row? I'm tired, boss!!!!!!!!

First of all, way too many travel nodes to get to generic bonuses on the far right
Make sure you figure out what you want to do; consistent powergain, leveling or farming fast.
If you want to stop dying for a bit to gain some levels I'd suggest picking up sorcery ward over aoe explosions
Mostly because you're already using lightning damage which means you'll shock stuff a lot so instead of relying on the witch hunter point you can instead rely on herald of thunder + ice explosions.
Having both is overkill (which I imagine you're doing right now).

Honestly this is a rough one for me personally as crossbows mercenary is the one thing I haven't played yet really.
Note that the tree that I posted is not something you should copy 1:1, or even can as it has allocated too many points.
What I am trying to note is that directly pathing towards the herald nodes caused you to miss a lot of really good nodes, mostly defensive ones.

I also think that eventually you'd want to swap out of being non-crit and rather go for crit nodes close by the starting point.

When pathing, unless there is something hyper specific, in poe2 at least I'd always go for the closest biggest gain.
Remember that the far herald point can be annointed as well.

This genre is just that damn bad. You've got dudes like Crate who make a good game, but they're very conservative and allergic to "action" gameplay eg. WASD. You've got blizzard over there not even interested in making games. You've got indies making really cool games but without the resources to make something with the kind of high fidelity 3D content that GGG can make.

I think its kind of a pathologic genre. Developers with taste probably aren't going to make a rat-in-a-cage treadmill as their dream project.

The way people get big pops is by something that is most likely going to get fixed within the next 2 weeks, but worth checking out.
Herald of Ice cannot freeze, and Herald of Thunder cannot shock but
>Herald of Thunder can Freeze and the thunder attacks apply to attacks
>Herald of Ice explosions count as attacks and can shock
So people use stuff like the "x% as extra cold/lightning" damage, increased freeze/shock chance on them to make one proc the other and vice versa.
This essentially gives you the best clear in the game and gives you poe1-level explodey chest BV screen pops if you get some extra increased aoe.

For defense, I would avoid stacking too much armour for now, but if you can get even a little bit of energy shield from example hybrid ES/Evasion pieces, you could run Ghost Dance.
The idea is that you run just enough energy shield so that your ES equals to 5% (or 7.8%) of your ES so that you get the full benefit of it.
That, combined with evasion and sorcery ward will increase your tank by a bit, although you'll still get chunked by Physical damage.

To mitigate that I don't really have a proper solution besides Cloak of Flame right now.
Cloak of flame is a chestpiece which converts 40% of the physical damage you take to Fire, meaning that if you have 75% fire resistance it's essentailly a 30% physical damage reduction.
Armour also works better against smaller hits so by reducing the size of the hit through cloak of flame, it makes what armour you have more valuable.

Im sure that if you run Cloak of Flame + Sorcery ward (remember that the converted fire damage from cloak of flame + 5% taken as other element means you're absorbing 45% of the physical damage you take to sorcery ward as well) it should make you vastly more tanky than you currently are.

A large part of what made PoE2 as successful as it was happened to be because it was advertised as a slower iarpg that wasnt all 1 button screen clearing autism and so far the first three acts were just that which is why the poe1 skinner box fags were throwing a hissy fit on launch.
That "expert" is right and the whole genre is total ass right now but PoE is at least somewhat engaging to play and has depth/

Skinner box faggots even here hype up games like last epoch where you have 1k hp, enemies do 10 hp damage, have 100 hp and you do 500 hp damage type shit where its just 1 click to kill everything and you can get up from the computer to go grab a drin kwhile an enemies hitting you and come back and still be alive. Its fucking BORING to play shitty games like that. The power fantasy is extrememly shallow when the enemies are too weak to be dangerous. "it gets better at endgame, endgames the real game bro" im not willing to put in 40 hours in a video game to reach the point it stops sucking ass. it needs to be engaging immediatly. PoE1/2 enemies can kill you right in act 1 if you get careless. Almost every other company making these arpg games makes them too easy and too shallow. All GGG has to do is not make a shit game like that and they are on top, thats all it took really.
