In maps, it's legit a skill issue: don't overdo it if your build is shit, play safe, don't go full retard. If you see your build is lacking, adjust it.

Yeah, that's the main problem. Though I wouldn't mind the 1 portal limit getting raised to 3 in normal maps either desu, sometimes you just get caught on a rock and fucked with 3 periodic explosions and volatiles.

The retards crying about the removal of 1 portal maps are right. There is a reason why HC in PoE 1 is a ghost town. Nobody wants to deal with BS deaths you can't see coming. Nobody wants to deal with the fact that you die, and are not told what you died too. Nobody wants to deal with mobs that shit a bunch of on death effects after you killed them, and punish people for picking up loot. Nobody wants to deal with monsters ramping up attacks from off screen.

Also the current difficulty is fine, yes, you can die in a T1 or a T2 map when you just enter them, it takes time to outscale them. What is not fine is that you get the HC punishment when specifically not playing HC.
Honestly, losing the map, and having to rerun it is almost more punishing than locking the map permanently, since it wipes all bonuses off the map, and now you are forced to take a time penalty since you have to rerun a map empty of any mechanics.

If anything will kill PoE 2 hype, its the fact that they inflated the hours of the campaign by making maps take 30~ min to clear during the campaign, and their "soft" hardcore take on mapping.
If PoE 1 HC with access to insane defences is a ghost town, I can imagine what is going to happen to PoE 2.

I don't hate 1 portal in normal maps, because the campaign trained me to handle the normal mobs and the waystones are abundant.

But the pinnacle bosses with 1 shot mechanics?

Let's get fucking real. The boss is designed to kill the player several times until I figure it out.

How long does it take to farm the invitations? If it's 5 hours of farming per an attemp and the boss has 5 different one shots I'm supposed to learn - bro that's 25 hours of grinding just to get there. Not 25 hours of bossing, not 25 hours of dodging, rolling and learning the boss gameplay, it's 25 hours to earn the privilege of seeing how the oneshot bullshit works.

Naturally that incentifises me to close the game, open YouTube and see how to build a bullshit cheese build and trivialize the game rather than have an experience overcoming it myself.

POE 2 seems to have learned all the wrong reasons from Demon's Souls, From software themselves moved away from crushing the player's balls with punishments to placing the checkpoints right outside of the boss arena, and EVERYBODY appreciated it.

Did you ever hear anybody praising Demons Souls for the punishments

NOBODY EVER SAID THAT.

If you like punishments so much why don't you rerun the entire campaign for dying in the maps? Oh wait that's just hardcore, go play hardcore without pausing. It's literally already in the game.

What? If you die, you lost the tablet which if well rolled can be anywhere from 10-20 ex, you also lose all the tower enchantments from the map, as it wipes off any boons like irradiated, breach, boss. And, if you have any maps after it, you are now forced to complete that map, basically giving you a timeout until you clear a white T1 map, which is trivial, but can still take 5~ min or longer with the shit movespeed we have access too.

You will never fully get rid of BS deaths. The only way you could, would trivialize the whole game. Especially since the game has a huge delta when it comes to the power of builds. You could spend a lifetime trying to balance this, and with GGGs absolute refusal to give players a death recap, we will never be able to make actual decisions on builds. So they are left with 2 options, neuter the difficulty, or allow for more than 1 failure.
At least give players the option to opt in for something like this.

I tried the cast on freeze shit for myself. It really is shit and useless. So fun getting a trigger once every 2-3 packs. It might be good if you get a billion cast speed so your energy fills up instantly, but I'm not sure it's even possible to get enough unless maybe stormweaver scales arcane surge to a billion.

I don't think one portal is bad, I like the idea behind it. Survivability should be a consideration in SC. I don't think three random deaths are actually super egregious either, they exist, but they always have.

The real issue is that the actual mapping system is cancer. It only works with failure state, they can't let you keep nodes on failure or you could reset maps intentionally to exploit good nodes so you have to lose everything to incentivize travel. But because of this any failure is massively punished. It doesn't matter if you rarely die because if you die one every 50 maps, chances are very likely that it's going to be on the map that matters the most. You basically optimize maps right now by picking a direction going hard with shit waystones, clearing unrewarding nodes and towers so you can juice up the good ones and make them as dangerous as possible, and then you're left risking losing all investment to random shit if you fail

Then his on death effect one tapped both me and my summon! it was revolutionary, visceral, and dynamic. Also for some reason I couldn't re-enter the boss arena afterwards and fetch my runes, but that was actually a good thing. The game would be too boring and easy if I had too many runes (and levels!)

If anything I might score GD a little higher than PoE 2 atm. Since PoE 2 just seems so much slower paced as a game, but without the intent of GD, where in GD you can actually target farm monsters for some items instead of all loot being random.
D2 is just a little too small at this point as a game.

imo it's even easier, at least on a ranged build. in poe 1 those battleground rooms could end you fast if you fucked up enough on the last floor. doesn't feel like there's anything that bad in this one. traps are more avoidable. sloproll helps a lot. honour resist is very strong and the game shits out relics so you'll get good ones quickly and you have most of the slots unlocked at the start.

I dunno, even after all these years. The campaign feels really nice in D2. I still play trough it just to take a character with the same build from lvl 1 to hell baal. Just did a summoner necro before PoE 2 dropped and it was pretty fun.

The balance is still shit BTW. Was coaching a friend trough the campaign a bit. He as you said it fell behind the curve but still wanted to play SSF. So he spent time grinding multiple levels to reset the vendors. Picking up every single weapon he could, gambling on ever one that he could find, and after multiple hours not getting an upgrade.
This is the state of the game. Yes, you can get lucky. But in PoE 1 if he did that, he would 100% run across an essence that he could use to get an OK piece of gear. He would have vendor recipes to offset RNG. In PoE 2, sometimes you will just get unlucky, and there is literally nothing you can do besides trade.

Oh, and during that time, he managed to grind enough gold for like 6 gamble attempts. What a joke.

You can pick up CI, EB and MoM which means all the ES gets turned into mana, and it acts as your lifepool. After that you equip the everlasting gaze, unique ammy, which turns 30% of your mana into ES (which scales of your passive tree)
Its the bis for mana stackers if you want nothing but defences, since it just gives you like 5k ES from 1 slot.

I was thinking about trying a silly build where I throw out frost bombs and sit behind raise shield until it blows up. Pair it with magma barrier. Frost bomb already blows up all packs instantly. I see people doing some meme magma barrier builds and it's actually pretty good. Not sure what ascendancy and defense types would make the most sense for this.

And you can scale them without losing MF slots on your gear, which is insane. Remove those QoL issues, and barely anyone will play anything but minions.

How do I fix my defenses so that I stop getting pinned down in corners and dying?
I can kill most things quickly but not when I'm getting chain-smacked into walls. I've bricked every one of my T4 maps, 3/4 of my T3 ones, and god knows how many nodes and I'm sick of it.

biggest problem is no convocation and fucked ai and hitboxes. anything with doors you will have a bad time, either the ai fucks them from going through the door, or they bodyblock themselves.
most of your time in maps is spent waiting for them to revive because you go too far and they despawn.

Concentration does basically nothing or actively hurts you in most circumstances and culling strike was nerfed from PoE1 to not work in most circumstances. WH was a very popular ascendancy but it's actually second from the bottom on ladder and performing close to the ground in every other metric.

Culling strike at its worst is still 5% more dmg to everything. Decimating strike as well at its worst its 5% more dmg vs everything, on average it takes 17% of hp away from any monster. And No mercy would add that damage as another more dmg multiplier up to 30%. Sure you can't pick up everything, but at the same time you can easily supplement a build where its lacking. Need clear? Get explosions. Need single target? Get decimating+concentration. That pretty much halves the boss hp between the 5-30% initial strike + 5% culling + 30% more dmg based on missing concentration which should be maxed thanks to decimating strike.
You do get screwed a bit by bosses with invuln phases.

How does it hurt you?

Anyway the strongest part of witch hunter is sorc ward and it's what makes the class worth choosing. Explode/cull/conc nodes/weapon swap memes are just the cherry on top.
Also pretending cull is bad is absurd. In any sort of lategame setting, you aren't seriously cucked by the new cull mechanics because any reasonable build has multihit, heralds and other mechanics to trigger it.

Correct, because what you trigger your cast with does not matter, the focus is on triggering the cast.
Just like how CoC builds are well named after the CAST ON CRIT, and not after what people use to trigger it. Since the whole point of the build revolves around a specific mechanic. Same way in this case a cast on minion death is not a minion build, you don't care about minion stats, you don't care about minion scaling, its just a means to and end, and the end is to trigger a skill. Thus it is cast on trigger build.

The only real Blood Mage build I'd Corpse Explosion and ONLY because you can use the gem at low level so that the mana and life cost doesn't scale up.

NTA but he said on release. All those things will be gutted, or newly introduced with oversights and soon to be gutted. There's no chance they let screen clearing get through in endgame on release when it's the complete opposite of everything they've said. I genuinely doubt it. As much as I like the game, I've it for years now, the game will slowly devolve into PoE1's retardation with screen wipes and macros that play the game for you.

And I don't know why you even bring endgame into this, none of this is an endgame issue or a content issue, it's a design issue. The design, from the beginning, is such that it does not support their intended playstyle past level 40 or so. So basically they made an entire game for a campaign's worth of a different experience, after which it's just PoE1 and nothing more, maybe a bit less.

All before Cruel. You are already fighting against large packs of fast and hard hitting mobs plus ranged spam. Also (except chaos trial) areas are huge and if you aren't constantly moving forward looking for an exit, you get bored.

I was maintained all throughout the campaign. It just stops after that because they stopped balancing. If nothing else, they could literally just quintuple the hp of mobs and all of a sudden you're forced to press more than 1 button or get swarmed and die. Now that wouldn't be a good solution, but it would be an easy example. They also haven't included any kind of support gems that encourage combos, but they could easily start making gems that make skills do tremendous amount more damage after certain types of gems are used in order, or something. In two moves they've completely killed one button builds, and the leftover stragglers just get hard gutted.
It's not a case of whether they can, because it's not difficult to do. The community is incapable of controlling itself so it will inevitably show them all the 1 button builds for them to remove. The only question is whether they're willing to uphold their vision - and given that it's the fundamental reason this is a new game instead of a new patch, they will do it if they don't want their game to be considered a complete failure. It'll be a playable failure that some people can find fun in, but if it doesn't even remotely match their design intent then a failure nonetheless. And I doubt Tencent wants a failure.

Only played monk and uninstalled after hitting 90, but personally, after getting stormwave and the ice herald in like uh late act 2 or 3, the game already felt like poe 1. I was just mindlessly running through maps right clicking and watching packs shatter. From some streams I've watched it seems to be the same for other classes as well. You see "the vision" only in act 1, and maybe even not then. The second you get a good weapon/+spell staff you faceroll everything.

Most people I've seen also had the act 1 experience for all of the pre-cruel campaign. It's entirely dependent on your weapon. If you're properly geared, it becomes a lot easier. The realistic solution to that is to make it easier to get level-appropriate weapons, and then buff enemies according to the expectation you have them. Suddenly the difficulty is normalized but better gear can still have an easier time.

You can slap on 5 damage gems if you want, but it's not a strike skill. It's a skill made to combo with things like Staggering Palm for more aoes, more strikes, and in turn be a method of building stun for Staggering Palm, etc,

Holy shit.
So a perfect jeweler's just dropped, and I started messing with support gems to figure out if its worth using on my bonestorm. I tested momentum and it does seem to work, but then I have to constantly keep running around even when I don't have to. And then I tried scattershot. It really does not seem worth it as bonestorm already shoots a bunch of projectiles and 2 extra proj for 20% less total damage seems like a terrible deal, BUT it actually makes you conjure projectiles way faster, like it adds 2 proj for every stage of channeling. I basically shoot a fully charged bonestorm as fast as I can do the tap-release and hold the button routine for casting on the move. I tested it on a t16 boss with extra boss difficulty from atlas passives and its a massive dps increase, AND it feels much better for clear since I can charge a bonestorm much faster before a pack of turbohasted mobs charges in my face. On top of that my mana does not drain nearly as fast since I don't have to hold the cast as long before releasing a full volley (cast speed does make it charge faster but the cost per second goes up too) so I can drop inspiration as well.

Its attached to cast on freeze. When I clear I use CoF voltaic and when I boss I just press G and switch to CoS ball lightning quickly.

The logic is that: you can't realistically stop botting and RMT so instead they just take over the RMT market and kill off all the competition since third parties will never be able to compete against the developers themselves printing items for free.

Lvl 88 SSF player here, and I’m tired…

…Of every progression system in this game being heavily weighted against players playing it without overgearing via trade. Just some personal stats to illustrate it:

Never dropped a single Perfect Jeweler’s Orb, and only got 3 greaters. But at the same time, I have 40 lessers still remaining.
Dropped a single Orb of Nullification
Dropped 3 Divine orbs in total.
Dropped 5 omens in total. Haven’t even started seeing any of these before I started doing T14 ritual maps
Never dropped, bought, or crafted a single weapon with higher than tier 6 physical attack mod. Average would probably be T2
Never even seen anything above Tier 2 drop until I started stacking +100% item rarity via gear.
Failed every single of my Chance orbs. Probably close to 10 so far.
Clearing T10-T12 maps gives me a whooping 0.5%-3% of exp. One death to lose 10%.

Spent millions of gold on gambling for gear on an NPC daily. Nothing to show for it.
Quantity of drops is not the issue. I ported to town 3-4 times to unload all the rares I drop when I still cared. I keep maybe 1 in 50, since the rest is just regal shard fodder.
I could go on. But you get the point. Progression isn’t great unless you’re already overgeared. Because for whatever reason a lot of the ‘good’ stuff like omens that are supposed to make crafting more predictable don’t start dropping until you’re already grinding the highest tier maps. Most still remain myths I’ve only heard of in the trade league.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m well aware a lot of this comes down to my choice of playing in SSF. But I do so not because I’m into BDSM, but because I want to overcome the challenges myself. But when instead of providing rewarding drop and deterministic crafting outcomes you just slap that gacha machine on the back and smile, I gotta say. GGG. This. Is. Not. Okay.

Just my 2 cents before I go hibernate before I return to the unrewarding grind tomorrow…

Anyway not suggesting you use it, just saying that there are other gems that have the same projectile interaction.
It's just a really good skill for keeping up tailwind on a deadeye, super quick fast time and you can do it very quickly while moving.

There's been at least one faggot doomposting since before the game came out.
The bosses are great and, until late campaign/maps, it feels like you're actually doing something in combat instead of just running past while you one shot everything in 2 screens of you.

Honestly its just wasd and the visuals. Even the gameplay isn't that much more sophisticated. If you're honest the boss design in PoE2 is similar to most main bosses in 1, it's not like the collosus is that different to Kitava for example

I rmt'd a ton of divs 2-3 years ago after making a lot of money in crypto. Made an invincible CoC Ice Spear witch that could do everything, then stopped playing 2 days later. I do appreciate that event teaching me that for games like this it really is more about the journey than anything else. If you get a fully stacked out character with all BiS items you have fun for a few hours but then you just get bored with nothing else to do.

It doesn't, you can have anything equipped, it just uses your unarmed attack for the purposes of damage calculation.

The meme with the bow is getting +gem levels for it (huge), and apparently the game is bugged and retarded and some of the bow damage nodes on quiver actually affect pconc as well.

I can not count the moments any more, where I went "oh yeah, they fixed this problem in 2016 in PoE1", while playing PoE2.

Or whatever year it was. It's like they hired completely new devs to do the game, who just try to copy PoE1 with ruthless flair and the seniors are just chilling in the office and not checking wtf these new guys are doing. Yes, the game has good stuff in it as well, but the good stuff is not making me quit the game.

rares are clearly visible in the pack
early itemisation is fixed by the bench
deadly effects have clear and distinct sound effects
you can not go CI with just 2 items, so not everybody an their mother is ES
5/6L made more accessible through different means
removed and later reworked sextants, because blocking and setting up was way to much (towers are old sextants on crack)
made gems accessible for early game
"fixed" melee with fortify
reworked scion life wheel, so not everybody is forced to got there. This is 100% future problem, when they try to fix current stare of ES and nuke completely, so everybody is forced to go life
reduced the mana cost of spells, to make spell casting easier
ascendancy made easier, to make it more accessible
shortened act zones
increased monster density, so players do not have to travel multiple screens to the next pack
...
I can go on for the whole day. I did not expected PoE2 to be a perfect game on early access, but I did not expected it to repeat so many mistakes either.

If the disgruntled employee post from a few days back is anything to go by, it basically is that they're different devs. PoE1 team just yoinks shit from PoE2 development to use in new leagues, while PoE2 is supposedly a relatively small group of like 8 guys doing their own things with dogshit management because Jonathan is overly biased with a lot of arbitrary things and has conflicting management decisions. So it probably, unironically, is that the game has been in development for 6 years with a different team entirely that's had basically no contact with PoE1's thing to pick up on what they fixed. Or Jonathan just said "no, that was too convenient for the players, leave it out".

Why? Almost all the good gameplay elements are already there in the campaign (the only one being absent is juicing). From the moment you enter Clearfell, you can start building your character as if it's the lategame, and it really matters.
It's not even long when you know where to go.

I'm writing this as someone who believes POE1 campaign is unfixable and needs a skip button. POE2 campaign just doesn't have the same problems. The gameplay is immediately meaningful, and not a pointless chore that you can do with your eyes closed.

Path 1 Standard, a league that should have been called Eternal League all this time. The place where a good chunk of people should have been playing all this time. Leveling skips are in Standard, you just respec the build. Atlas is re completed with one map played. Access to legacy items means combatting dumb nerf decisions and thus, it's quite casual friendly in many ways. Reuse some old gear, less currency needed per build.

Not sure about league, but I should be simmilar to dota, when you die, you can get a full breakdown of your death second by second, you get to see what CC hit you at what time, how long it lasted, what source it came from, full damage breakdown by damage type.
No clue why GGG thinks this would confuse players. Its more likely that they don't want to invest effort into a feature that would display how buggy their game is.

TBQH family if they want people to "feel the weight" T1-5 should be 6 portals, T6-10 4 portals, T11+ 2 portals. Atlas tree point = more loot but half the number of portals. Everyone gets what they want. Endgame you get 1 portal or you can be a lootlet with 2 portals.

if they really want to have this well flask system, they should double or triple max flask charges, and reduce charges gained from monsters by a similar amount so you actually have a reason to fill up occasionally. as it currently stands I never ever use wells because I can gain too many charges and their max capacity isn't big enough to warrant going back to refill

I never played PoE1 but am lvl 90 titan and cringing at how pathetic/slow my clear is compared to lightning deadeye, archmage spark sorc, or tri attribute monk and being behind on currency because I farm so dogshit slow. Is the legit only way to fix it just to level up another class and farm the shit out of lvl 82 maps where I instantly kill shit with 1 button like the top builds and never get hit? Spark + blink sorc is already x3 faster than stampede titan and if you can farm a temporalis then it's literally <5 min to finish a T16 map with 2 breaches wtf.
