Satisfied with where I reached in PoE 2, could do more but don't feel much need to.
Finished leveling another character in PoE 1, and got my last challenge for 40/40.
Messed around with my hideout. Logged back to PoE 2 and tried to mess around with hideouts. A bunch of things you can't do, like stacking items on top of your map device to make it look different. PoE 1 I put an altar with a cat on it, and a few lights to make it look like my cat had a holy light descending on it. Was able to somewhat put my map device into a tree decoration in Felled, but you can't actually click it with mouse, got to use controller (lol.)
Went back to PoE 1 and stared fucking around with maps I rarely ever used.
Need a league soon gentlemen.

they advertised this game as a more tactical experience, all of the early footage suggested that but the truth is that whole "tactical" experience goes away by the end of act 2 and it just turns to zoomzoom kill the whocares mob in 1 hit

Then by the time the game starts becoming 'hard' again it's now hard in an entirely different and less enjoyable way to how it was at the start of the campaign

People don't talk about that problem much because there's a survivor bias - The only people who are even doing maps are people who saw the prospect of slogging through hours of trivially easy Cruel campaign oneshotting everything with no real gameplay and said YES PLEASE and slurped that shit up. So everyone commenting on late late game is a certified slop enjoyer by definition

They only slowed down Act 1 desu and that's until you get a good weapon and kill everything anyways, from Act 2 onwards everything becomes one shot or be one shotted, especially in the Dreadnaught and second half of Act 3.

Yeah, it really falls off hard after act 1.
It's like they put all their effort in act 1 and just did fuck all for 2 and 3.
Like in act 2, you see enemies that revive other enemies. Cool mechanic, but this guy is off screen and you have no idea what's happening. They also had monsters that would attack you with ranged off screen. Like, how is that fair if the game gives you no indication or even tools to see what's coming? At least in Dark Souls you can move your camera around to see your surroundings, PoE2 has a fixed camera.

I really don't think 'souls-like' is going to work in an ARPG.

I'm looking at the trialmaster attack right now on the poe 2 db and I'm actually confused at what oneshot me. It was one of the big slams he charges up for a bit, but I feel like with 3.5k combined life and es with 50% physical reduction I should've survived that. The system is in a catch-22 right now. If you fail a map, you lose the waystone, you lose the node modifiers, and you have to path through the now dead node to get to other stuff or farm resources or tower clumps.

If they let us keep nodes, then the optimal farming solution is to create a great node and repeatedly fail on purpose so you can continue farming it.

If they make it easier to navigate, then the already stupid but optimal strategy of bumrushing to the edges of the map and ignoring everything along the way becomes even more valuable.

i thought about the atlas for a while and arrived at the same conclusion. the current tablet system requires nodes to have a failure criterion. it also requires them to have a tedious completion criterion, which is why rare hunting is in the game.
theres a lot of evidence that ggg are not happy with these facts and tried to work around them - the completion criterion was clearly something they settled on at the last moment, which is why they had so little playtesting time that they had to slap on the "50 -> 200 monsters remaining to reveal" bandaid patch post launch. the failure criterion was changed even more recently, in the preview video you actually could not re-enter a map if you died in it.
so they clearly tried to work around these constraints imposed by the tablet sextant system and this was the best they could come up with. its just a fucked system that cant be solved. i would be very surprised if they didnt end up scrapping the entire thing. because the only way to unbrick the system is to remove the towers, and at that point you are left with nothing but a forced map layout, which is a rather pointless system.

None of these are true.
Totem is probably the easiest warrior build to play because you only want one stat, which are + level gems. And this makes them insanely strong.
Warcry warrior isn't late game and more like, near the end of Act 3 also.

I neglected it until reading your post and wasn't thinking about the actual issues of the tangible map layout, but man, the existence of towers also creates an issue where the optimal strategy to farm an area is to path through dead nodes as much as possible to reach towers, activate them all, slam tablets on and only then spend your good waystones on the juiced up map nodes. Ridiculous how counter-intuitive it is and how the game pushes us into avoiding good nodes.

All I'm hearing is that some unique chests are overtuned. He hasn't actually made a case for why armor is bad. In fact, the way he's talking about it makes armor seem really good, it lets you outright halve the damage of some of the biggest hits in the game, to a point where they'd be survivable. He's also not mentioning that some passives let you defend with 120-200% of your armor.

Warcry warrior fails the DPS check against Mektul and consists of just running around the boss not interacting with the mechanics. It's not very engaging.
Totem warrior isn't feeling good in act 2.

the first is ghostwrithe, it gives you a retarded amount of ES with CI (???)
the second is evasion / ES synergy nodes paired with grim feast and ghost shrouds which give evasion based characters an absurd amount of ES

Yeah, that DPS check boss was something I ignored. Wasn't that important anyways since you don't need the reforge bench until later.
Totems in act 2 are still strong since even without AoE increasing nodes the shockwave can cover the room because of how small the rooms are. It's just slow so give it the support gem that gives more attack speed.

Here's how you balance the game.
Evasion can't evade skill or spells. So it works like armour.
If you have ES you take double damage, effectively making 2ES = 1HP.

Yeah exactly. I really liked the idea of links as a kind of "one or two giga stacked minions" but having die if your target dies AND having them time out after like 8 seconds or something ridiculous AND having them break if the minions move more than 10 feet away or walk around a corner is just ridiculous. It does feel like they put link skills in the game, IMMEDIATELY regretted it, and did everything they could to prevent anyone from ever using them without actually having to explicitly remove them.

The solution is to just make it so you unlock more lives on a map based on progression. On normal maps, every couple rares killed gives you an extra life. On pinnacle maps, every 30% or so of the boss's health is another life. Or you can make the number of lives based on how many modifiers are on the waystone. 2 modifiers = 1 life. The more juiced the waystone, the more lives you get but the harder it is.
Either way, when they're gonna make so many things randomly oneshot you, a single life is retarded and disincentivizes doing anything organically. If it takes me 100 hours to find a single citadel/farm a single pinnacle, etc, why would I not look up the boss and master the fight before I've even tried it in game?

As I move in to endgame (t15s onwards) I find that this endgame is actually quite fun. Searching around for good irradiated setups and running high stakes maps where one death means you fucked everything has a pretty good rhythm to it as I work towards pinnacle bosses. I also have normal sanctum and ultimatum on lockdown and my gear isn't even good yet, but there's super sanctum to work towards to. This is actually a winning formula. This is much better than running the same t17 map over and over so far.

Because you can stack 75% block and be invincible. Don't need enormous mitigation on top of it. Your body armor is your primary piece for armor/evasion/ES that scales the highest. Slot the 40% increase into that and never look back.

The biggest problem is that there seems to be multiple modifiers that completely fuck over armor (enemies ignoring it, reducing/breaking it) but there isn't a mod that makes monsters do extra damage to ES or be more accurate (that last one may be incorrect, I just don't remember it). I swear to God every other map I do I always get the armor break debuff, and yet it doesn't matter to me because I have 5k ES and 5k Mana, or I have 7k ES (that gets doubled to 14k) and 13k EV. I think that GGG either needs to remove enemies armor breaking you as a map modifier, or add ones that punish EV/ES more. There are mods that effect resistance and this applies to everyone equally, but armor seems the most targeted in terms of hate by the devs.

Does anyone else feel like the only fleshed out (no pun intended?) end game league mechanic is breach?
Breach:
>Adds strong density to a map
>With some investment on the tree drops a good amount of shards (I normally get 20-30 a map)
>Feels rewarding in both raw loot but also breach rings
>Boss is generally well made and has multiple drops that feel like they could be good/powerful (even if it is primarily one that is meta)
>Feels like it was actually designed a while ago and implemented well
And then you have everything else.
8.5/10 mechanic bretty gud
Delirium:
>Outright bugged. Mirrors fuck up 90% of the time by either not giving any progress towards loot, getting stuck in the middle of the map, or just ending near instantly
>Gives a pathetic amount of shards even when you chain together delirious maps
>Its two bosses are just basically ported 1:1 from PoE
>Simulacrum gives awful loot, takes forever, and has one good drop
>Is basically the same as breach in terms of design (open thing, kill fast for loot/shards)
>Anoints feel pigeonholed into it, most of the combos don't even have any anoints associated with them
5/10 mechanic fix this shit
Ritual:
>Boss is just ported from the campaign and PoE1
>90% of the Omens are totally useless and make no sense
>Boss drops 1 good item
>Mostly just offers bad rares and a few raw currency items
>Alters are placed randomly with no care for layout, some are TINY with half of the ring being off the map anyways, some are massive
4/10 mechanic needs a lot of work
Expedition

>Every NPC is now the same

I have a learning disability and I'm clearly too retarded to play POE 2. I've been doing tier 15 maps for ages now but I have not seen any endgame bosses because I don't know what to do.
What do you do when you hit tier 15 maps? All I do is grind them but I can't progress. I get an exalted orb or a divine orb here and there but that's it.
Meanwhile I see others doing breach bosses and shit. How? I get maybe 1 breach shard or whatever from a breach.
Delerium mirrors? 4 second timer pops up instantly while I'm killing packs and I get a couple of fragments.
Logbooks? Never seen em.
Ritual boss? No idea if it even exists.

What am I supposed to do here?

Make a triangle armour node far bottom left corner of the tree that does the "Armour applies to Fire Damage" and also allow it to apply to lightning and cold damage.
Add back spell suppression but make it very very low on gear (2-10%) and add it to the far bottom east/right corner of the tree
Replace a few ES nodes north/east of the tree with
>spells that can chain do so 1 additional time
>10% less area of effect. Spell Cascade now places area spells in a + shape.
>Unleash gains +2 additional seals. Seals recharge 50% slower.
>MoM gives 90% less mana recovery from regeneration instead of 50% from recovery. (you can still invest by going for % based "damage taken from mana instead of life" notables, or find alternative methods of sustaining mana besides raw regeneration like flasks and makes it less free without killing it)

There is no reason to NOT go CI if you're an ES character. It is both cheaper/easier to gear without life and the life is meaningless. Going from 8k ES + 1k Life to 8k ES + CI is not even a choice. There is a chance that with the introduction of Templar we might see a reason for Life/ES hybrid but right now, no. In general defenses are fucked.

I turned my archmage spark into an MF character and with only 200% IIR I get way, way more loot. Like I get multiple raw divines every day while I got a grand total of 3 my entire time playing before that. I got 3 yesterday and 2 today and I haven't even played this evening. Before I had to buy alchs/vaals for my tier 15s, now I have a surplus of them. I get a ton of uniques that I just turn into chance orbs. It is clearly too strong, and while I'd be down some divs if they nerfed it, it would be more healthy for the game in the long run.

ES/MF can only get nerfed with a reset. I was thinking they'd avoid a reset for a while, but after Christmas, in mid January, they may do a reset and then add in huntress/druid at the same time. Breach is the most swarmy of the bunch, and this beta is clearly being used to playtest swarms + server lag with a bunch of entities (Aus servers especially suffering, apparently France is too) + what one button builds people are using to delete the screen so they can nerf them before release
Breach was effectively copied over 1:1 with a visual update and it's the easiest mechanic they can use to test the main shit they want to before release. Xesht was a poster child boss for trailers so he just happened to get priority as well, which is why his domain is so insane compared to the rest of the mechanics

Act 3 was fine for me, I liked the final boss and it had a decent amount of different designs for dungeons and so on.

The foundation is fine if you enjoy what they're MEANT to be going for. A slower approach to PoE where you're encouraged to use combos because no individual ability can pop the screen. That foundation is already there in the first act, even if they still need to stop being so anti-melee dogshit with their bosses.

The problem is that the endgame is almost directly copypasted from PoE 1 and it feels like shit. All they need to do is make boss way tankier and have the endgame not be spent 90% of the time killing packs, and it might be a new and fun experience.

Is there a problem with ailments scaling like this? Means you can scale it through multiple modes and that it'll scale into end game as you pick up additional types of modifiers. It's much more intuitive than say, poison on hit double conversions.

you need to treat dots as extra scaling for your skill, not the main form of damage anymore. for example i grab like 5 points of bleed and my phys skill turns the bleed support into over a 100% more multiplier.
diversify your damage instead of going all in like poe1, its literally designed to work like this

poe2 isnt about IGNITE or BLEED builds, its about MACE or QUARTERSTAFF builds and you'll have to accept it.

Ignite should have been something that you built up over time, like Freeze or Stun. Just make it do like 1% of the enemy's HP per second for 10 seconds, scaling up to like 25% with maximum investment. Then you can have a separate skill that consumes ignites to inflict a fire DoT that works more traditionally.

looking at poe2db there are some potent mods but also a ton of garbage in the pool so its very hard to get a good one
i just think that the passive tree is weird as fuck, its always two wheels next to each other where you would almost never take both of them so radius jewels end up affecting fuck all

Not for the ascendancy proper but spear skills are very well fleshed out when you can dig them up. I expect huntress to be added very quickly, all the sword and axe stuff I can find is fully placeholder for comparison.

So magic find is mandatory. What do you think happens to build diversity? How do you think this interacts with a game where certain archetypes just have a gazillion EHP by default and don't need to worry about mechanics, while other classes have to eek out every bit of EHP and on top of that, have to stand in the pools of damage to do any damage?
