you could just go to SSF and get the gameplay you claim you want at any time. but you won't because really you want something impossible: the advantages of trade without the consequence that the gameplay is bypassed.

Pen is cheap
Lets say you just want to get rid of some ele resistance but focus the majority of your budget on Pen
Curse + Exposure also requires setup whereas Pen works on every hit
So the question becomes
Do you spend ~10-20 passive points on pen which is reliable and always-on
or
Do you spend ~1-2 seconds to proc exposure + curse on specific packs
Pen also frees up the curse slot for something else like Temp Chains or Enfeeble
Curses also cost a LOT of mana to cast and have an inherent delay which is a bit more difficult for attack builds then spell builds
Curses also require high int if you want full effectiveness out of them

There are many cases where Pen > Reduced Res but also many cases of reduced res > pen.
Stormweaver for example would be a waste to go Pen since you get the exposure talent and can easily get -90% like the other anon posted.
Invoker gets free resistance ignore on crit, so if you go full on crit you can ignore pen or resistances are a thing entirely.
Invoker is tankier vs 1shots whereas Stormweavers probably go MoM so they are tankier vs sustained damage.

They need to be nerfed. The difference between -60 res and 75 is absolutely bonkers. Legit stops you from being one-shot. And I heard it can be scaled even higher, too.
WAY too overpowered. Forces too many affixes on my gear. Please GGG nerf it.

Mf could, in theory, fix itself if ggg adds a bunch of good rare mods to the pool. Think about it- what would be better, 10 iir, or an extra 20% ms? Or 25 iir vs splode mod

The real issue right now is we tossed a ton of the influenced or special rare mods from poo1, so its either iir or + life/res/defence. Which is obviously a pretty easy choice

Adding more mods could be a good idea but it would require an actual crafting system so we could feasibly get the right mods for our build. We already get fucked by RNG drops and forced into trading enough in PoE2. And don't forget, they are going to dilute the pool several times over when they add all these new weapon types, so finding an upgrade for YOUR build will get even harder.

Idk, 2 affixes on a single piece of item might be too difficult to acquire. I just have MF on every gear slot. I may not be able to clear many maps without dying, but I've already noticed I'm getting WAY more loot than I did during the game's tutorial. It's almost as if the rewards players receive scales with the difficulty of the content they're completing.

I'm at T12 maps right now using a ilevel 60 weapon from ACT 3 Cruel because nothing better has dropped for me yet. I collect every single expert base, including whites and blues, then bring them up to rare and recycle all of that with the reforge station, i also spend all gold on gambling weapon bases and run as many expeditions as possible hoping to craft something better. The drop rate and multiplicative prefix/suffix design means even decent weapons are few and far between. You either need +% phys with +flat phys or multiple flat +elemental rolls, anything else is vendor trash.

Let me put it this way. It takes extra effort to pull up the poe2db site, check the list of possible mods, and figure out the prefixes/suffixes I'm looking for on a specific gear slot. I get in that mode where I'm thinking about the mods and trying to figure out how to get the best ones. If I can do that for an extended period of time before I go back to mapping, it's a better experience than if I have to go back and forth rapidly between mapping and crafting. Alterations and scours were key to longer crafting sessions because they let me do more work on a single base.

There's something about a map that's both open-wide for retarded projectile spam and yet it's full of dogshit chokepoints and geometry that blocks YOUR shit. Also if you play grenades, all of them will fall off the edges and do nothing.

Ive tweaked my minion witch build in a weird way which turned out to be a really really good build and i dont think anyone else is playing it this way.
it clears everything for being a minion witch and burst boss fight with ease.
The only problem is the mana issue and since i spent all my mana on the command skeleton spamming, arcane surge wont help me and it only hindered by the need of constant mana pot spamming.

The worst map in the game is the towers. Utterly terrible design with tiny hallways and unseeable mages at the end of them that just fill the hallways with bullshit spells before you can see the actual mages.
Add this on top of the fact that there is literally no reason to run these maps as anything more than a white T1 just to get it done quickly and unlock your precursor slot. Terrible design.

you're describing web browsing, not ARPG gameplay. in ARPG gameplay we kill RNG monsters and pick up RNG items, which means they can't always be better than what you already have (by definition).

sounds like you get a meditative feeling from clicking on things in your hideout. I recommend Cookie Clicker online. you will ALWAYS get more cookies the more you play that, there is no uncertainty.

And all of that is much much worse because it takes longer and is less rewarding in poe2. In D2 you could farm countess, farm valley of snakes, etc, and get your leaf staff and all kinds of good gear very easily and then ramp up to doing baal runs in a group. Nothing like that exists in poe2, it's all a shit grind for nothing. There are no high points in the campaign that are fun to retread for rewards - there was beetle and now it's gone, but shit like that used to be a staple of the genre. No deterministic drop pools from bosses of any kind, no way to get the gear you want for a niche build, nothing. Just a shit slog and then into a mapping system that's fucking pointless.

DD isn't really a ranged caster skill, you have to be near corpses to explode them and you have to be near your minions to explode them aswell so you are usually very close to pick up orbs

except in poe2 there are no systems to interact with so you are doing the exact same thing as tradies. youre just getting less for it. the only exception is that you get to run all invites yourself, which is cool, but they drop so infrequently that 99% of your gameplay is going to be identical to trade league gameplay. at the same time, your progression is fucking horrendous because theres no crafting in the game.

Can anyone enlighten me?
I was completing an expedition in map and I got "oneshotted". I had 15k ES and I was full ES when I died. My HP bar was green so it was probably Poison DoT (chaos damage).
I thought Chaos damage couldn't bypass ES in PoE2. I think it was a bug.

crafting can't ever be balanced around competing with an item market and shouldn't be, because all that would happen is that the market would reflect the greater ease of crafting (the average quality of traded items would go up, and you would find yourself in the position of the gameplay being boring sooner). it would directly affect SSF without fixing the problem you imagine exists: the game is boring because you are not playing the version of the game (SSF mediumcore) in which balance is possible.

its not that deep, essences are cheap because they are bad. theres nothing more to it
the only useful essence (as far as im aware) is haste because it forces attack speed on an item, everything else is trash.
i thought i would be real clever and use the phys essence to craft a weapon. guess what, leech mods are phys and have way higher weighting than phys damage mods so using a phys essence on an item is barely better than just using a transmute

yeah seems about right. i also tried every minions but on a way less optimized setup. never would have thought the base 1.5 sec attack time minion would scale so drastically.
phys damage and big hits are pretty good in this game.
accuracy seems to be a problem with them though.
i have pretty much everything i need for some further testing except a +3 amulet with spirit.

capped res and phys reduction especially helps a lot. im not sure when exactly they regen - i think it happens when you dont have a minion reviving at the moment and they didnt take damage for 4 seconds. then they regen a shitload of hp. usally happens when the boss is stunned.
if you are still in acts and have no great +minion gear just play srs flamewall with bomb guys or sniper. srs are pretty good and low maintenance. the permanent minions only feel strong in great numbers or at great level.

I think it's something about it being too meta and not interacting with any other systems

Something like fire res makes your character better through interaction with the game's other systems and core gameplay, and if you don't have it you can make up for it by being extra careful around fire

MF just reads "when you drop shit, it's better than what other players drop", and it comes at a comparatively low affix opportunity cost so you can't just make up for it by assigning your affixes to other stats and killing faster/surviving more

Maybe that's the real problem, the effect of MF should just be cut by 9/10ths so it's not mandatory

It's pretty damn easy to gear up in trade already. A lot of great upgrades go for a few exalts while stuff with 4/6 or 5/6 of the correct affixes but with low-mid tiers can be bought with 10s of exalts.

#2 MF is still useful in SSF because the rarity stat is generally strong in PoE2
#3 SSF has some fucking problems in PoE2 as well so get off your high horse.
#4 SSF in PoE1 totally mogs SSF in PoE2 because you can pick Expedition, Harvest, Delve or whatever. You have a bazillion crafting options and that's what makes SSF tolerable in the first game. When PoE2 gets a crafting league SSF will become way the fuck better.

there is no real demand for essences because they are bad, not because of them secretly being good but people being too dumb or lazy to use them.

i play ssf and i use the essences that the
game throws at me but the majority of them just sucks. most essences increase the chance of getting a useful mod by like 100% at best by weeding out some bad mods from the pool (pic related) and the game gives you so many bases that it barely makes a difference. instead of alt + aug slamming 10 bases per map i only alt 9 of them and essence the last one and now i get the equivalent of alt + aug slamming 11 bases, great. the only really useful one as far as im aware is haste (force movespeed on boots or attack speed on weapon / gloves)
compare that to poe1 where a shrieking essence has a ~100 times higher chance of giving you a useful item.

My point is that the existence of CI and MoM gives players choices for defensive layers and therefore keep a bunch of different affixes valuable. A piece of gear can be good with life AND/OR energy shield AND/OR mana
MF is one stat, that every build wants on every piece of gear that can get it.
It's like movespeed, which should ALSO be removed from the game and which PoE1 did after understanding this

I don't know why every retard and his mother is shocked by this change. The point wasn't to make linking common. The point was to make it less cancer (clicking 1.5k times to 6 link) and to pull gems from gear.

The way it is now, you still have progression from unlink -> 6 link, but you don't need to give yourself carpal tunnel or play trade sumulator for 2 hours to swap shit around to accomodate your specific jewel config.

I'd say it was a huge success.

the change was done so that you could switch out chests more easily instead of being stuck on your 6l chest until you have enough fuses to 6l another. but now you cant switch out gems, which is arguable worse.

If the crafting system is actually good then I would much rather grind out my own crafting mats and make my own items. in poe2 you need to click 2x per jewelers orb (once to select it, once to apply it) so for 3 orbs thats already 6 clicks

got to tier 10 maps on warrior, 75% all 4 res, 80% armor(15k) stampede build
usually nothing does damage to me, but then i overlook a frost bomb or a firebomb and i get instakilled (1700hp)
any way to deal with that? essentially been stuck at lv 81 for 3 days because i die every 3rd map because of this, essentially i never take damage or it's instakill dmg that I can't even flask (i do mash flask in advance to avoid this happening, but i still die like a tard)

on another note, this was my first playtrough and while i understand some mechanics, I bought all my gear and thus my theory is lacking - will it do me any good to do a SSF playtrough to learn the game, or is it from that standpoint a waste of time and only played as a challenge run? thank you guys

what intrinsic knowledge does poe2 require in ssf that it does not require in trade? the only knowledge required is the ability to identify the strength of a piece of gear, which arguably is more important in trade. theres nothing to know about in this game.

what happened with poe 1 was 10 years of powercreep so people could run full mf and farm the hardest content.
their solution to that was to shift iiq on to maps and off the player, thats why iiq gear in poe 1 is all legacy now.
poe 2 is at the bottom of the power creep ladder so you can have rarity as it was originally intended.

lmao fucking retard. I had more currency to do shit with in poe1 by end of campaign in all regards. Crafting was absolutely more accessible if the baseline you are talking about is crafting a 3 stat rare.

you keep multiple crafting projects going at the same time. the new version of Expedition League even incorporates this by letting you leave up partially finished items when you run out of artifacts.

essences you spam on a bunch of white bases, then you aug them and throw away the garbage ones and wait until you get greater essences, etc. you get 3-mod items that way.

this is reflected by how exalts work, you only use them on items that are already good.
